LFC Injury update: Lucas + Flanno latest; Assaidi mystery deepens...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has provided a new injury update ahead of the Reds' Europa League clash with Young Boys tomorrow night.

In his pre-match press conference a few mintes ago, Rodgers said:

"Lucas leiva is back in traiintng, but he wont be involved tomorrow [against Young Boys].

"He'll play a reserve game on Friday, and he's looking good.

"We’ve got nothing else really apart from the long-term guys [Kelly etc]

"Flanagan had some swelling in his knee, but that's cleared up now. The group is healthy apart from that".

It's great to hear that Lucas is close to a return, but what has happened to Oussama Assaidi?

As I argued over the weekend, the Moroccan is definitely not injured. If he was suffering from a knock of some kind, Rodgers would've made reference to it in his press conference.

If Assaidi is not injured, then it seems strange that he is out of the squad at the moment, especially since he only arrived a few months ago.

What's the point in buying Assaidi if Rodgers is reluctant to play him?

  1. maybe he had an outburst(he's supposed to be a hot head) about jose taking his place after being converted to a LW )

  2. Somebody mentioned shoulder knock in training..?

  3. Great to hear Lucas is nearing playing again! Lets hope its for good.

  4. There's no proof of that. If he did get a knock, why has Rodgers made no reference to it in his last two press conferences? In each, he's been asked about injuri3s and said nothing.

  5. That sounds like the most probable possibility.

  6. Hmmm def something up with Aissaidi.

  7. he is thought to be on a strenght and size course to get him up to weight - could be a contributing factor

  8. It definitely is strange. BR seems to have different man management skills for individual players, which in his defense has worked quite well so far. Maybe he doesn't think he's ready for premiership yet and is trying to protect him from the crushing effect of having a poor start to his career. Couldn't hurt having him on the bench though!

  9. Seems a bit strange alright. I have lived in Holland for several years now and there was quite a bit of talk over here about his attitude so he may have had a bust up with someone. Lets hope that it gets sorted if he did as he looks a fine wee player.

  10. Jamie stop trying to find bullshit stories

  11. Why don't you ask BR himself other than stirring up unfounded suggestions?

  12. I expect him to be in the Europa league squad- he isn't strong enough yet for regular premiership appearances; just look at the muscles on Enrique when he swapped shirts at the end of the Wigan game to see the strength of those that play regularly at this level; apart from Suarez our front players have been out-muscled in several game at home; e.g.Man City, Stoke, Arsenal and the Toon; we cannot risk having Sterling and another couple of lightweights in the same 11, that was why Suso went off after 30 mins on Saturday and Sahin is not a certain starter.
If I was manager i would not be dawing attenntion to what I was doing, nor is BB

  13. Lucas is back in team and it looks like he's done his part in scouting too- just read that he would like to see Leandro Damiao in red...

  14. Did you ever stop to consider that Assaidi might have been ghost all along?

I'll never be fooled by that mystery again.

  15. It's also possible that he has been poor in training

  16. Yeah actually for me as well its very strange this assaidi situation, hes clearly not injuried, how can he be, he never plays! Dont get it why rodgers doesnt play him, everytime he played he was decent if not great, obviously there is something between them personally or proffesionally, assaidi doesnt deserve this treatment at all, im sure he regred joining lfc and maybe he will leave soon, who knows...

  19. nev the red. what utter bollocks, have a look at the injury list from those teams against us,think youll find about eight players missing from those teams due to playing a lightweight side

  20. genius, but wtf has this got to do with anything on this page?
    very childish.

  21. Absolutely nothing but I couldn't give a monkeys about your concern, especially when the concern is childishly based on you being hurt over our prior disagreements. So don't talk to me about 'childish'. You were banned before for blatant stalking/bullying but bless, your being somewhat more clever about it now. Ta-ta.

  22. is he definitely not in the squad? I thought he was? He trained with the team prior to the wigan game and was expected to start. It was announced on local radio that he sustained a slight shoulder injury in training and failed a late fitness test hence was replace by enrique.

  23. I heard he wasn't Brendan's signing - he was scouted by the previous scouting team, but he wasn't expressly wanted by Rodgers.

  24. lowey - please stop antagonising other posters. This is not the first time, and I've noticed you on various threads doing this. Please do not post any further pointless posts like this. You know I value your views, and I would appreciate it if you remained civil. Thanks.

  26. Jamie kenwar all you ever do is make up story's on this blog! Yea I get what your doing social debate and all that but please stop making up the shit and stick to real journalism! Your sources are questionable as are your opinions! So let me get this straight assaidi hasn't played because he's had a row with Rodgers! Nothing to do with tactics or to do with the fact that sterling and suso have been consistent in the league?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Assaidi isn't playing coz Brendan doesn't feel secure in playing him for some reason - end of. He has his reasons for F... sake - he knows best & he knows why.

And just for the record - Brendan is aware that his predecessors laid the foundations for LFC and the youngsters - he's just utilizing it, caressing it, trust me, he knows.

Kenny was my hero and so was Lawro but don't they talk a lot of shit? Brendan is a humble man who believes in fate - Kismet. The failure to sign a striker in the transfer window was meant to be and Brendan knows it. And so was bringing the youngsters through. YNWA

  31. In fairness, i dont believe there was any mention before the Chelsea game that Shelvey had picked up a knock in training, yet he had and was unavailable for the game but has since returned. I seem to recall you questioning that......

The truth is, we do not know 100% everything that goes in in the build up to games (ilness, knocks, late for training etc).

Although having said that, from BR's interview yesterday, it certainly seems there is no injury to Assaidi so it would be surprising to not see him involved tonight in some capacity

    ReplyDelete
  32. You Over evaluate every simple little thing!
Ill give you a reason and you don't need to be a genius to work this one out........ We are getting results without him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe when we are not he will get his chance again, I think this happens at every football club apart from the teams that play with 25 players oh sorry there isn't one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't understand why the journo's at the press conference don't ask BR outright about Assaidi. Isn't that their job? Maybe then we'll get an answer?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Maybe Assaidi just needs to put in some more hours in the gym although he didn't do too poorly whenever he did play so it does seem that there's more to it than logic can explain away.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am as excited about assaidi as the next person, but its obvious he needs to add some weight to his frame, hes being pushed around a bit on the field and rogers probably doesnt want to rush him along, i dont believe its his attitude because if you read abouthow the moroccan manager said adel tarrapt should be more likehim, then that theory makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  36. are you really that dumb ?? doesnt it suggest that they want to beef him up before giving him a starting roll in one of the most physical leagues in the world ??

    ReplyDelete
  37. Assaidi failed a fitness test on saturday he was set to start.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sterling actually performs well in tussles with defenders, hes got a great knack of getting a nudge on them then doing them with pace. Its one of the things that has impressed me most about Sterling.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I just fail to understand BR sometimes as to why he's not playing Pacheco, when he wants out we'll be all cursing whreas he's kept on the sidelines with no game time or rather loan him out to a team where he'll get exposure and some game time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ok enough with non sense abt Assaidi and fake attitude issues. story is even though a regular starter he did not play in Morocco vs. Togo friendly due to issue with shoulder, still debating on surgery which may take him off the African Cup.

    ReplyDelete
  41. He played yesterday, did okay when he had energy and looks to be a half decent buy.

We messed up yesterday though, Enrique should have come on for Cole, moved to Left Back and Downing pushed further up. Also, when Wisdom went off, why not move bring Coates on and move Carra to right back?

I cant help but think that its not the players who are learning but Rodgers is learning that at Liverpool, every tactical decision he makes is under the microscope whereas at Swansea, he can get away with it.

The puff of the cheeks was nothing to do with the fact it finished 2-2, it was because he knows he has to change his tactics.

We are Liverpool, we arent a team who should be experimenting with tactics, we are a team that should be finishing the job.

  42. Assaidi's time will come. If you listen to what he has said in his interviews he's always referring to himself getting fitter and fitter. This means he is on a training regime to get him up to gear with the other first team lads. Face it, he can't just be thrown into the fire if he isn't ready yet. He has just arrived at a club with world class facilities and coaches, hes settling into that environment, and has set new goals for himself, better goals infact, because he is come from a smaller background to a bigger stage. Suso and Sterling have had a head start because they came through the academy.
