'It's nice to get recognition!' - Liverpool star wins 'Player of the Year' Award...

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is formidable player for club and country when he's fit, and his he's now been rewarded for his excellent form over the last year with the award for Danish player of the year.

Agger picked up the award in Denmark earlier tonight, beating off competition from Nicklas Bendtner, William Kvist and Niki Zimling.

In his acceptance speech, Agger revealed his delight at winning the 'the biggest award available to any Danish footballer, adding:

"As with everything else, it is nice to get recognition for what you do.

"It is what makes you keep on spending so much time on it. It's prizes like this that make you continue to fight"

When asked why he thought he was chosen, Agger said:

"I have the right attitude, and I have a little flair for this game. And it's probably why I was chosen".

The award is presented by the Danish Football Association, and the winner is decided in a vote amongst Danish professional footballers.

Agger has won the award twice before, in 2007 and 2005 (Young Player of the Year). Last year, Liverpool target Christian Eriksen won the award.

Well done, Daniel!

  1. Well done Daniel on a great 12 mths. Keep it going for another 12 mths. Just a question Jaime, how have you felt on Brad Jones's performances in goal this year? I feel he has really come on in the games he has played and is really the form keeper of the squad this year. Reina is going to have his work cut out to get back to the starting 11.

  3. Dagger is the man. It is time for him to be given the vice captains armband. Dagger will be the perfect candidate for captaincy when SG retires.

  4. Skrtel has been named North West Player of the Year (how he won that over Kompany, I don't know). Good job both of 'em!

I do think that Agger has been a little below his best lately though. I wonder if the constant changes in personnel, enforced or otherwise, in the back 4 (or 5) are effecting him.
