"It was assault" - Angry BR slams Gallas, 'diver' Dempsey, & 'embarrassing' ref...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has lambasted the referee for poor decision-making during the Reds' 2-1 defeat to Spurs at White Hart Lane.

In his post-match press conference, Rodgers grossly overpraised the team once again with the usual unwarranted superlatives (outstanding! Excellent! Brilliant!), and then laid into William Gallas, Clint Dempsey and referee Phil Dowd. He raged:

"We never got the rub of the green. It was embarrassing to be honest.

"The challenge on Gerrard in the first half was bordering on assault, and it was frightening how we never got the penalty.

"And what about Suarez being kicked by Gallas? And for the second goal, Dempsey dived; he dived for the free kick".

I wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers gets an FA charge for his forthright comments (!), though it's good to see some honesty. It would even better, however, to see the same type of honesty about Liverpool's results instead of the usual sycophantic praise.

I find it incredibly ironic that Rodgers moans about Dempsey diving, but whenever he's asked about Suarez, he point blank denies that he dives.

The Gerrard non-penalty looked a little suspect but the team should not be relying on refereeing decisions to gain an advantage; the simple fact is this: if the players score goals from open play, then penalties (or lack thereof) are irrelevant.

To be fair, Liverpool were the better team in the second half but what does that matter if the club ends up losing the game?

The Reds are now in 12th place in the league, only 4 points above the relegation zone, but the margins are so tight that a win on Saturday could see the club move into the top 10.

Let's not forget that prior to the Spurs game, Liverpool went 8 games unbeaten in the league. Things are not as bad as they seem (IMO), and if the Reds get some good results in the next five eminently-winnable games, then the table will look a lot different.

I am still 100% behind Rodgers, but that does mean he is beyond criticism, and in my view, he is to blame for tonight's defeat:

* Poor decision to play Henderson and Downing, both of whom were culpable for Spurs' two goals.

* Made subs too late: Last week, Rodgers subbed off Suso in the first half against Wigan - why not make changes today at half-time, especially with the team 2-0 down?

* Gerrard played too deep. With Henderson and Allen on the field - both ostensibly defensive-minded players - why wasn't Gerrard instructed to play as high up the field as possible to support Suarez?

* Assaidi is clearly lacking confidence. In his appearances earlier in the season he looked energetic and alive; tonight, he looked lost on the field, and this is down to Rodgers too. The Moroccan has been constantly ignored over the last two months, and recently, even Enrique has been preferred to him on the left. That surely can't be good for his confidence.

  1. I support BR 100% but Brendan you put out a rubbish starting 11 we played with 8.5 men its your fault take the blame buy some credible class players in january and lets try again please get your act together in january otherwise we might really be fighting relegation

    ReplyDelete
  2. How the fuck is it his fault? We played far better than Spurs (that is what BR can control), it isn't up to BR that our players are incapable in finishing their chances (BR can't control that)..

    ReplyDelete
  3. Spurs didn't play particularly good either. He got his defence wrong, that game was their for the taking. I'd say give him the next window and second half of the season to prove himself. If it doesn't look like working Liverpool should go for Redknapp. This coming from a spurs supporter. I can see him plugging your gaps in the team and send you flying up the table.

  4. Not to mention the track record he has with kids. Which you really do have many promising players.

  5. I agree that the over praising is sometimes over the top - but I have been waiting for some personality from Rodgers side and he's shown it with these comments. The refereeing was poor throughout, but equally so was Glen Johnson. Lost count of how many times he lost the ball. Don't think he should get charged, because Moyes, Pulis and let's not forget old red nose regularly come out with comments worse than those.

  6. Wish we had kept Steve Clarke. He has a worse team, less money but seems to be flying. no excuses!! If BR does not do better than KD, then out he should go. there is no point in being a mid table club that plays tika taka. If we do come 12th. surez will go and so will the rest, then we will truly be in the relegation zone. no matter what anyone says, stats say at the min we are prgressively getting worse!

  7. excuses excuses!!,,, Bad loser BR ha.. You was lucky spurs was not 4-0 up at half time the way you have got liverpool playing .

    ReplyDelete
  8. Henderson and Downing, the final legacy of KD's business in the transfer market, were responsible for the 2 goals conceded. On your way in January, I think. To be fair what in christ's name is Downing playing at left back for, I'd sooner have Jones in nets and Reina at left back

  9. If Abramovich gets Guardiola then maybe if we grovel enough Benitez might come back home.

  10. Rodgers says Pool is close to top 4. Maybe he needs spectacles. I see pool closer to bottom 3!

  11. Looks like Rodgers is losing his cool in front of media too

    ReplyDelete
  12. What's he said that wasn't true? The gerrard incident was a penalty and the free kick for their second was a dive!
Liverpool were the better team and would have won if the ref got the big calls right. Fact!!

  13. I'm getting a bit tired of his praise for the team but this time BR was right about the dives, referee and penalty shout.
Why does he starts with Downing as RB and Henderson in the middle. Both are not good enough and must be sold. I also would give Sterling a few weeks rest as he's not so effective anymore as when he started. The kid has played too many matches.
Bench SG as he's not the player anymore he used to be.
We need to get off to a wiining streak otherwise we'll end up at the foot of the table.

  14. All the comments about Spurs cheating and the referee being bad are probably correct but again we were toothless in attack. We knew how bad it would be when FSG decided not to splash the cash in the last window, fortunately Suarez has been able to put in some impressive displays preventing it from being so obvious. But now that teams know if you keep Suarez quiet then Liverpool have no plan B, then the decision by FSG not to fund another striker is criminal.

  15. he can control it by not putting out crap players like henderson and downing we have other players shelvey, suso, adjorjan...... robinson, flanagan

    ReplyDelete
  16. I would like to see BR hammered by the FA for his comments. That would at least keep him quiet for a while. He is a very, very embarrassingly inept man to have at the helm. I'm just glad he isn't steering my ship. What a loser.

  18. I'm a Spurs fan, but i agree - it seemes silly blaming the ref, AVB said rightfully afterwards that we were lucky, but for Rodgers to blame the ref? I'm watching from Norway but he was poked fun at in the studio right after by neutral pundits (and myself, of course) - those were never penalties! On the contrary Bale got booked wrongfully and should have had a free kick in a very dangerous postition. I reckon Rodgers is a top class manager and i agree Spurs were super lucky to get all the points. But he shouldn't disgrace himself with silly comments, I too think he will get some reaction from the FA, and how does that help Liverpool?

  19. same old same old when we have the chance we couldn't score if we stick to hendo, downing and glen we will go down under.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Redknapp is useless. He had the current spurs squad with King, Modric and VDV 3 undisputed world class players and he still couldn't get champions league more than once. Imagine what he could do with a squad as poor as this? Nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Gallas committed an assault, huh; no mention of Skrtel being lucky to get off with a yellow for that mugging of Dempsey?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Brendan is totally right, Liverpool were the best team overall. The ref had a shocking game, he told the truth 100%.

    ReplyDelete
  23. In the 2nd half. In the first we could have been 5 up.

  24. Downning is so far out of his depth it's not even funny..

After a poor performance Sunday and nearly getting Pepe decapitated, I can't believe Rodgers stuck with him tonight !! Like he was ever going to be able to handle Lennon at WHL !!

As he stood like a lost boy in a supermarket as Lennon gohsted past him for the first goal, the guy looked like he'd been blindfolded spun around ten times and planked in the box.. uhhh where am I ?? His fault ?? technically yes.. but If it was my house and the guy in charge sent a plumber round to wire the house I know who I'd be Fing out of it !!

I'm in support of Rodgers and going to afford him plenty of time but he's not doing himself any favours with team selections like tonight.. and Hendo.. Endo !!

And why isn't anyone talking bout the Elephant in the room all season..??

Gerrard is going from bad to worse .. Not even a shadow of his former great self.. Like I mean to say the guy's been brutal !! Killing us in most games .. que the fanatics.. but it has to be said.

  25. The results and table do not lie and we are leaking a fair few goals , we can only be unlucky now and again , hitting the bar , bad referee , poor penalty decisions for and against etc etc , we have to try and rise above that rather than using it as an excuse week in week out and tryto win every game instead of starting out looking for a draw as we did with todays team selection

    ReplyDelete
  26. When did Suarez dive today, you tit?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree with most of your points but come on seriously relegation?

    ReplyDelete
  28. But those players are no good either. Better than Henderson, sure, but ultimately third or fourth rate.
Liverpool have just one good player and I only hope he leaves soon - Suarez deserves to play for an important club and not waste his time with Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  29. pardon moi .. 'ghosted'

    ReplyDelete
  30. its true gerrard hate to say it is looking past it and is causing us trouble but the guy is a legend and will get my respect whatever BR chooses to do in that department is up to him but taking the team into consideration its time

    ReplyDelete
  31. I find it equally ironic that you reserve your diving criticism almost exclusively for Suarez, 2 blatant dives tonight. The silence is deafening

    ReplyDelete
  32. you lot call your self fans did you watch the game,as br said we havnt had one pen this season we should of had at least 8 if refs are against you in 12 out of 14 games you got no chance of fourth. if you all take bit of time to complain to epl about we pay alot of money to go the match and expect refs to be fair.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think I might have heard those whines before. Maybe 500 times. Maybe a 1,000. Please Liverpool fans - think up some new excuses. Maybe the grass was too long or the wind was blowing against them. Well, at least you've dropped the one about the woodwork.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It would be hilarious to see Liverpool fans with placards like the Chelsea ones had about Benitez. But, of course, everyone knows that LFC fans will put up with absolutely anything. Even Henderson.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The referees r killing Liverpool, something weird is going on here.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Stop talking rubbish, Arabee. I have criticised countless players for diving over the years, including Gareth Bale. You know that, so stop sniping. And your comment makes no sense: the silence is 'deafening'? Look at the title of this post: does it not highlight Dempsey diving? YES. So what are you on about?

    ReplyDelete
  37. No but it's clearly the managers fault when he plays a player in a position that he is clearly out of his depth in .. a la Downning.

Explain to me why a player who has just been told he can look for a new club in Jan , a midfield player , has ended up at left back in the last two games .. and the left back is playing in his position ???

Does that make sense to you on any level..

I wouldn't trust downning to go to the shop for me let alone trust him with keeping Lennon quiet at WHL .. sorry mate but ast the very least the first goal is on Rodgers !!

  43. Yes, and Suso, Robinson, Flanagan are typical goalscorers, lol..our problem isn't creating chances, but FINISHING THEM..Shelvey scored few but his finishing is also pathetic in recent matches..and btw he came on in 2nd half..

we don't have goalscorers except Suarez, but he is the only one and that isn't enough..there is nothing that BR can do about it now..he needs financial backing from FSG and maybe in winter and summer he can start to reinforce squad..because to be honest, he didn't have enough backing from owners this summer..

    ReplyDelete
  44. you say we should'nt be relying on ref discisions to get advantage but is'nt that what done for their 2nd goal?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I also think Joe Allan is'nt as good as 1st thought, people say he will be better when Lucas is back but he's been asked to do a job and protect the back 4 and he has'nt done it, he also gets caught with the ball too many times he's not good enough. All this will do is put more pressure on Lucas

  48. It's hilarious to read comments from fans of other teams in this site which make me a LFC fan wonder if I should write here. Anyhow, the truth is that BR is by far not the right manager for Liverpool. Anybody recalls Kenny Dalglish and how FSG didn't give him enough time. It is time for BR to look elsewhere. However, I would give him time until January and if he and FSG do not bring some fresh high class strikers may they be on LFC fans anger radar and good riddance. I am tired of seeing my beloved team swimming in the middle of the table falling slowly but surely toward relegation. This January we should see players like Henderson go but as per Downing I think he is a classy player and with little extra work he can become a second Arjen Robben.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Just 2 points, as there's no point dwelling:

    1) Is our squad so thin that we have to use a winger to play at left-back? Fair enough, move Enrique forward, but have we no other defenders?

    2) Since when did Red clash with White?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Did you watch the game Martbadger? If you did you would have seen the poor decisions however we had the chances to finish it and didnt thats on us but check the Apta stats out and I think you might have to eat some humble pie my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Agree with a number of point made by JK here. But we were by a country mile the better team in the 2nd half, dunno why the suggestion that subs should have been made earlier.

Arguably, we were worse and didnt create much when Enrique did finally drop back to left back.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The only thing that's hillarious is you thinking that downing is a classy player !!

I'm not saying the men in white coats are coming for you .. but whats that neee nawww sound I can hear LOL..

Arjen Robben ?? You wanna be careful saying stuff like that mate .. can be dangerous.. alot of guys eating cornflakes at this hour of the night LOL

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jamie even you have to admit that the lack of decisions is getting absurd.Blatant penalties ignored, cynical foul play going unpunished(elbow drops and stamps anyone) but its not the only reason I agree an inability to finish is killing us.Its about time the refs where made to explain their poor decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The idea that Henderson would add solidity to the midfield was a good one, although playing him in an advanced role probably cost us a goal as he missed a golden opportunity to score in the first half. Nonetheless, it is a decision that I can understand. Playing Downing in left back shows the lack of options in terms of senior players for that position, with Enrique playing far better on the wing than as left back. Rodgers correctly felt that Robinson and Wisdom (who as RB would have allowed Johnson to play in LB) are too young for this kind of game and (as happened against Everton) could easily be overawed by the likes of Bale.

Bringing in Shelvey for Henderson was also the right move, although as Jamie points out it could have perhaps come sooner (although I would still have started with Henderson to try and keep the game within our reach, although this tactic was overtaken by the two goals inspired by Bale). The Assaidi substitution however was a failed opportunity - and I think Rodgers missed a trick there in not bringing in Suso to add some creativity and goal threat. Assaidi, for all his speed and dribbling, does not have the quality to play in the EPL, with a lack of final product a continuing theme in his appearances. A squad player at best, he reminds me a little of Nabil El Zhar and Mark Gonzalez, who both failed to establish themselves at Liverpool during Rafa's managerial reign.

As for Brendan's complaints, Dempsey did appear to dive for the foul that led to Bale's goal, while at least one or both penalty shouts should have been given. Like our lack of potency in front of goal, the failure to award justified penalties seems to be a recurring theme this season.

Finally, it is becoming increasingly obvious by the day that the team needs major reinforcements come January and that a 1-2 loans signings will not do the trick. If FSG fail to back Rodgers with serious funds in the coming transfer window, I for one will lose faith in their ability to steer Liverpool back to the top of English football. A player like Eriksen or Isco to act as creators and 1-2 goal-threatening forwards are the absolute minimum to allow Liverpool to challenge for the CL places this year; and a failure to do so is likely to prove more costly for Liverpool in the long-term than FSG can possible imagine.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jaimie, I wonder what got you with Kenny Dalglish and why are you so vehemently sympathetic of Brendan Rogers. If you were to analyze fairly Liverpool's current condition you will agree with me that sacking Dalglish was a mistake. If he had BR's budget this past summer Borini and Allen would be still playing respectively for Roma and Swanssea. Let's have some respect for the greatest player Liverpool ever had. Sorry nothing personal but I am one of those LFC fans who grew up watching him play, a man who gave me great joy time after time with his goals and I thought he deserved another year.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Jamie, you mentioned that Rodgers complained about the dive, but nowhere can I see that you agreed with Rodgers' complaint ...

    ReplyDelete
  57. It was not the Gerrard of old, however still a menace throughout the last 70 minutes of the match and easily one of our best players. Or was I watching a different match?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Why, did Gallas get the yellow he deserved?

    ReplyDelete
  59. he played downing- he cost us the first goal

    ReplyDelete
  60. Dempsey probably dived, but saying that Spurs cheated is taking it too far. Although I felts Liverpool were the better team for most of the game after the initial humiliation, Spurs are a wonderful team - and both teams contributed to what the BBC described as a "superb encounter".

    ReplyDelete
  61. i actually agree with him. henderson had a open bloody goal for god sake and he still missed. we should have had a penalty, and the shot from suarez after the appeal was unfortunate not to go in

    ReplyDelete
  62. Downing at LB because he needed Enrique on the wing - and was (correctly) weary of using Wisdom or Robinson after the sobering experience against Everton.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Common Martbadger, which manager in the EPL does not moan (correctly or incorrectly) about referee decisions and other excuses. Which team do you support?

    ReplyDelete

  66. and yet the lack of strikers is rodgers' fault because?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hey Chrisconnor48 one thing you should know true Liverpool fans do not cry. I have a little advice for you. Go write your comments is some Tottenham Hotspur fans site. And as per my comments about Downing compare to Roben I strongly stand behind my comments. I don't know how old you are but I have a feeling that when I started watching football you weren't even born. So, go and learn a little more about football before you criticize others.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Suso gets subbed at 30mins after missing a headed attempt on goal. Henderson stays on the field after missing an open goal!! I can name three chances henderson's got and only on one did he get the attempt on target. BR should not make the same mistakes KD made. If a player shows that he can play and produce results (like Shelvey) then he should start ahead of those that don't show results. Play Sahin and Shelvey, Downing and Hendo to the bench, if not the reserves

    ReplyDelete
  69. The problem with the team was not that it was too defensive, but that it lacks quality in certain positions. Rodgers is using some innovative solutions to make up for the lack of depth and quality, however they are not going to work overnight (and might not work at all). Enrique overall has been a revelation on the wing, Downing less so as LB. FSG have to invest some serious money to help Rodgers out, what was done under Comolli-Dalglish is water under the bridge and cannot be used as an excuse for a failure to back the new management with top quality new players.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hmmm, can't see Redknapp making it at Liverpool. Benitez, Guardiola or perhaps Jürgen Klopp - although Rodgers might still pull through. He needs to have the balls to tell FSG that they have to put their money where their mouth is however, something that Rafa would have done, no problem!

    ReplyDelete
  71. That said, Rodgers' tactical innovations and shrewd substitutions in some recent matches give some hope ...

  72. hendos chance .. yes .. one goal

Pelanty shout, fair enough , had we scored it .. two goals .

Had it even been awarded then obviously Suaez wouldn't be snatchin at the rebound chance so doesn't count.

Thats two goals .. I think you ll find he said 5 up !! so let you and him keep counting and passing the bong cause anyone who thinks we should have been 5 up in the first half is obviously partaking in some mind altering substances !!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  73. So who would you have played at LB? And don't say Enrique, because our lack of goal threat would be even worse without him on the wing ...

    ReplyDelete
  74. You hit the nail on the head there Kosta!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm really missing Roy and Kenny now.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well I didn't blame Rodgers for the lack of strikers in my comment but I will take this opportunity to make some comments on the issue.

Regardless of the shambles Fenway/Ayres produced in the transfer window by not providing funds for Dempsey and others, Rodgers mucked up MASSIVELY with Carroll. Now I don't rate him that much myself but he was an option and something different. Brendan treated him disgracefully really and I hope he learnt from that because he showed his age handling the Carroll issue. Anyway, what made this worse was Brendan going to the press (he loves that aspect of the job) and saying he wouldn't loan out Carroll. Which is fine, if you don't backtrack like he did! He should have got the replacement in first and then let Carroll go. But as I said, the owners need to look at themselves on that front.

How much of his limited cash did Brendan spend on Joe Allen? 15 Million? Firstly, having watched Joe Allen, he isn't worth 15 pence let alone what we paid for him. Welsh Xavi? That's like saying Guardiola's the Spanish Neil Warnock, it's a poor comparison. Anyway, any fan could have seen we were desperate for an out and out striker in the summer. This should have been priority number 1, not arranging a reunion with some Swansea lads. That money should have gone on a top striker, should have been adventurous (so that rules out Danny Graham). As for Borini, injury has curtailed his woeful start to a LFC career but even then, he isn't really a striker, or at least Brendan resists playing him in that position.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I have a feeling FSG's patience will run out before the fans'.

    ReplyDelete
  78. There's a few points I want to raise. First of all, I wish the word processor in this place does automatic spelling and grammar correction, so I don't have to do it myself to look more literate. Second of all, I need to insinuate my belief about Kenny Dalglish. He is undoubtedly a divine legend, but fans who believe he would have done a better job than Rodgers so far are absolutely deluded. In the season so far, Downing and Henderson would have been played in every game with even worse results than thus far, with Charlie Adam's attempted swashbuckling further limiting our progress to play 'pass and move'. We also would have seen limited appearances from Sterling and Suso, with the probable loss of these talents to other clubs. Substitutions for Carroll would have continued, with direct hoof ball tactics employed to shape the performance around Carroll. At least Rodgers has a clear vision for our club (no, it's not mid table mediocrity- it's the premier league title, teams like stoke however openly admit a vision of mid table languishing). By playing our promising youth, Rodgers is employing a far more effective long term plan for Liverpool, rather than Dalglish's long term plan of Carroll and Henderson- ("I didn't buy Carroll for a few years, I bought him for many years- he's only 20-something don't forget!"). Dalglish would have continued the predominate 'buy-british' policy, with no better alternative for the striker's problem that Rodgers has now. Let Rodgers buy a striker or two in January, or even wait till the summer window when there is a bigger variety on the cheap. Also my thirst point, Johnson had a bloody shocker, way too many cheap turnovers and momentum killers

    ReplyDelete
  79. dont think your far wrong there fella.

    a. From somewhere we need another reliable goalscorer, and b. I am getting more and more concerned by every passing game of Gerrards ability to create (or score) goals.

And if SG is not making goals, we really do need someone else in there who is consistently reliable of doing so. (Suarez aside).

    ReplyDelete
  80. No that would be just stupid to actually play the left back at left back wouldn't it ??

Of course Enrirque at left back .. Away at WHL.. Bale and Lennon running the wings all night at you .. Of course you play your strongest back four..

I'm not saying enrique hasn't done well in midfield but this was no place for downing to be thrown in at LB. Not that theres ever a place for him at LB

Plenty of midfield options for tonight instead of Enrique..

Look I'm not calling for Rodgers head or anything but he got it wrong tonight .. end of.

Just hope he learns from it !!

  81. tbf, JK was equally sympathetic towards Hodgson.

I genuinely dont feel either manager (KD or RH) was the answer, so perhaps by accident FSG (and JK ;) stumbled across the right manager for the LONG TERM.

    Lets hope so anyway.

  83. I wish people would stop saying FSG didn`t give the cash, they did, but BR spent 11mil on his striker of choice aka Borini. Thats not FSG `s fault. He also spent 15mil on Joe Allen. He was given money, and he spent it. Just cause the players werent good enough to make a impact from the start don`t mean he didn`t spend money.

Also, Stevie has been poor all season, and shouldn`t be playing. Sterling is good, but he doesn`t score ever. He plays in a position which needs to score goals. LS has scored loads so far, but no one else in the team does. Thats one of our problems. Sterling needs to score min 10 this year, so does whoever plays on the right and about 8 for whoever plays in the front of the three mids.

Football is short term now, two more years of no CL and were done for, building for the future will count for nothing, as the young players we train up will leave as soon as a bigger club comes in for them.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I agree the ref stuff has been shocking, and we have not had about 8 pens which were pens this year, but tbh matey if you watch other EPL games, loads of teams have had bad calls from refs against them. I think its just in general this year the standards have got shocking. All teams are feeling it.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Because he used 11mil on Borini maybe? because he only plays with one striker? because he sold players who did score? Because he stick with Steve even tho he looks like hes lost? Lots of reasons why.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Bang on mate. I`m behind Br, and do like him, but this whole hes blameless thing is starting to drive me nuts. He has to learn from his mistakes, Borini and Allen with the 6mil for Sahin is 32mil spent. AC tho I think was fine to let go, hes done nothing for West ham so I don`t see that he would have done anything for us really.

  88. Dempsey felt a hand on his back, of course he will go down.

Gerrard one was debatable, not a clean cut one.

Gallas on Suarez was not a pen.

Overall we were clinically punished, we deserved something

    ReplyDelete
  89. SPOT ON....Brendans signings are poor ...allen looks out of his depth especially against quality sides...borinni (less said the better)

fans not realising that its over i have supported LFC for over 45 years and the last 20 years have seen us as a club shoot ourselves in the foot with poor poor boardroom decisions ...and it continues to day.

LFC deserves top quality managers , players and ownership/boardroom , we dont have this any more in any area.

    depressing

  90. why were my easy sensible and not particularly critical, JK pro Hodgson comments deleted for? geeeze. bye. get over yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  91. i think sahin should of played left back downing is a complete donkey, allen is jay spearing all over again only one was free and the other was 15mill, allen is a liabillity even rodgers can see that but hes to stubern to bench him hendo should play dm untill lucas is back, i would prefare coady to allen. IMO the reason gerrard is not playing well is because rodgers style of play dosnt benafit him he is more pass and move or risky long balls but BR dosnt want that he wants back passing. As for referees decisions we where robbed of three pionts against everton and swansea so we should realy be at liest 4 pionts higher up the table.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Aye, Suarez has gotten away with a lot of cynical fouling and stamping ;)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Downing is not a competent left back and especially in a game like this. Enrique has been really good playing further forward but no way should Downing be at left back. He should be sold.

    ReplyDelete
  94. BR was at fault with his selection, putting square pegs on round holes. Enrique LM & Downing LB??? Wtf!!! So next game it shall be Glen Johnson RM & Sterling RB??? Downing is not a natural LB and tracking back & looking out for an opponent running from the blind is not his natural instinct...it was clearly exposed. We deserved to lose this end of...don't blame the penalties and referee...i thought the ref had a good game and those alleged penalties from BR were never penalties...they are too soft to consider as penalties. Sterling vs Bale was another big mistake. Sterling is slower than Bale and half the size of Bale, it's almost a no-contest. Sterling should have been shifted to LM & Gerrard on the right should keep Bale in check at least. Henderson can't shoot for christ's sake, can't understand why is he taking Sahin's place at the centre instead??!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. hee hee ..... cool .... too much water.... he swallowed it.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Hendo is the worst in the squad. Thanks Kenny. He is not a flop like Adams or Downing who were good before Kenny brought them over. Hendo ?
Purchase of Hendo = Bodoh !
I hope that was the last game for him in RED

    ReplyDelete
  97. Going back like last season. A lot of effort but no end product.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think there's is something or someone in the club who is powerful n related to Hendo. I can't believe Downing will go n he still hangs around. No way does he deserve to be in EPL let alone in RED. Something must be going on behind the scenes. It should already be the end of the road when KK was shown to trhe door . Incredible !!! Can someone find out if he is in anyway related to the ownners or the back room staff ? This is not right .I would have kept Adam then Hendo. Anyone really ....

    ReplyDelete
  99. Because he said he would be a "nutcase" to send Carroll out on loan, follow,??

    ReplyDelete
  100. Once again , BR we sick and tired of the usual, we played well and yet we lost the game , dont blame referees , you selected mediocre Henderson and Downing and expect to win , where is Suso ? Sahin ? and Shelvey ? are they injured ? or are you trying to make us stupid. please spare me the thought , im hurts to see our great team in the doldrums. BR why dont you just quit and for the owners FSG , please sell the club to someone who is passionate about football ,

    ReplyDelete
  101. True that!
Ive always said Refs need to be put out like players who make bad decisions refs also should have to explain there mistakes.
Its very easy to disregard the Refereeing conspiracy by over exagerating it sarcastically.
We are talking about corruption in sport not faking the moon landing.
theres corruption all over Fifa but we are to believe that the most rich and powerful league on earth is the only one with no corruption?
im not saying everyone is out to get liverpool, because we are losing purely through lack on goals.
But it does seem to be getting ridiculous now.
If its not corrupt and these are genuine mistakes then someone needs to be held accountable besides liverpool!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Also i forgot to mention that the decisions havent all been againts liverpool as there are many poorly officiated games each week.
Something needs to be done about the standards of the officials

    ReplyDelete
  103. after 14 games hes 3 points worse of than hodgeson

    ReplyDelete
  104. Allen, Hendo, Downing should not have started. Just comes down to poor team selection. I don't have an 180 page dossier, with spurs attacking talent esp on the wings i would not have played downing left back.

    ReplyDelete
  105. completly agree were would rodgers be if suarez had been banned this season last xmas 6th in league , till the suarez fiasco also another point for jaimie he said kd was a embarresment with the media well rodgers excuses are just getting stupid now ,he would have been unhappy with a draw last night we deserved to win the side were fantastic allen is messi and the ref was blind

    ReplyDelete
  106. It seem like fate want Liverpool to lose even we play real well. Don't understand what really going on.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I largely agree with what you wrote. You just know that when Phil Dowd is in charge of our matches that we should expect nothing from him. It would be interesting to see how our matches that he officiates compare to those of all other referees combined on penalties given to us, against us, cards and simply win, loss or draw. I've never done it but my gut feeling is that we always lose when he's the ref. That said, the starting 11 was a joke. To allow Lennon and Bale, easily their most dangerous players to run down the flanks is ridiculous. Dowd or no Dowd, Rodgers effed this one up badly.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Stats:

    Possession: Spurs 35% - Liverpool 65%
    Corners: Spurs 1 - Liverpool 12
    passes: Spurs 300+ - Liverpool 500+

Liverpool were totally dominant and played very very well, after a poor 15mins it was like a Liverpool masterclass in passing. We need more firepower thats all!!!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Anyone watch the LFC vs Borussia Dortmund Nextgen match last night? Now that was beautiful and entertaining football. Much nicer to watch than the first team - cherry on top? - LFC youngsters won!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Liverpool playing look like wanted a new manager soon... that was the final answer...

    ReplyDelete
  111. I have given up on LFC this season. Am on an "LFC diet", you can call it a sabbatical leave, the bottom line is, am no longer gonna watch their matches, follow their news etc. We've gotten 3 points from the 7 teams that finished above us last season. This is sad

    ReplyDelete
  112. I cannot understand why B.Rodgers dislike to used Oussama Assaidi. Not good to keep best dribbler into the bench for longer times.I will effect the confident of players.Samed Yesil and Conor Coady must get involve sometimes into high level games too.If young players can shining this season.LFC can save the budget to fishing high profile players target.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Here here Kosta, good to hear a bit more level headed responses to our situation

    ReplyDelete
  114. Worst aspect of the game is that tit AVB got 3 points. Spurs started well got 2 goals and then did nothing. Henderson is so relentlessly negative that when he is presented with an open goal he cant go for it properly, he is aways sideways and backwards.A Long dull season of draws to endure...................

    ReplyDelete
  115. while i quite like Suarez, (every LFC fan does), i still think he is also partially to blame for our woes...! Fine, he is our only proven goal scorer, but he needs 20 chances to score 3 goals, WHAT IS THAT!? Praise him all we want, BR needs to tell him that his success vs chances ratio is in the dumps!!!!! besides that, i quite like Enrique in Downing's position, but prefer Johnson behind him... (Johnson really looked lost in attack last night, i guess he is getting to used to the left back position!)

    ReplyDelete
  116. Henderson is a young player and i think he will come good eventually. Both Rodgers and Kenny see something in him. I trust their judgement, not yours and other haters. You probably hated Lucas, right?

    ReplyDelete
  117. You mean Shelvey, who's missed an open goal recently, Suso, who hasn't scored a goal yet, Adjorjan, who hasn't ever played a Prem match, Robinson, who looks a bit lightweight, Flanagan, who's made such silly mistakes last season that Kenny hauled him off pretty early?

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against these players, some of them are very talented, but it is not as if they alone have set the world on fire yet.

    ReplyDelete
  118. You hope that our best player leaves? What kind of supporter are you?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Bale got booked wrongfully? Is diving in Norway not a yellow card offence?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Since it has become apparent or seemingly so, that we lack funds or the owners won't re-invest in the playing squad (I.e world class signings), until Brendan offloads the high paid older players and/or flops ( downing, Henderson, cole, kuyt, maxi, aurelio etc) I personally have come round to the fact that this is a transitional season. We will be blooding the young guns like sterling, wisdom etc all season which is good long term as it gets them experience etc.
However, fsg really must back Brendan for a top striker/wing forward in January. We got Suarez from Ajax and we weren't in the champions league at the time, so it can be possible to get someone as good as he is into our squad. Fsg must realise that if this doesn't happen, we will be lucky to finish in the top half of the league. We continue to dominate play, create chances left right and centre but we lack the quality and experience in the final third to capitalise on the good work done- I.e sterling's wide pass to suarez against Swansea. It's not his fault obviously. He is learning and it must be immense pressure trying to carry lfc forwards and also playing with Suarez as he is very demanding of what he wants from the players around him.
I feel that the squad we have is pretty decent band we should be a little higher but downing at left back is a big no no. I'm not feeling Allen at the moment either but maybe Lucas can help him out. I think he is suffering with the burden of expectation also. We have played arsenal spurs united and Chelsea as well as city so our next fixtures should be easier on paper. If we can go on a run then that would turn it around.... Here's hoping!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Exactly. But he did get it wrong this time so he shouldn't be whinging about the ref. Let's just hope he corrects his mistake against So'ton and doesn't pull a Houllier.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Don't think that Suso got subbed for missing an attempt at goal. He got subbed because his lack of defensive work, back tracking, unbalanced the team. Shelvey on the other hand should probably start ahead of Gerrard at times.

    ReplyDelete
  123. BR got it all wrong with his tactics. How can he expect to win a match with bloody stewart downing and jordan freakin henderson in the team!!?
English players are all shit, overrrated and expensive to boot. The more of them you have in your team the lower the overall quality of your squad is. Call me racist but thats a fact! Show me one english player that played well besides maybe young raheem sterling? Gerrard is old and past his best and he is just living off his past reputation. Henderson can`t even score in a bloody opened goal! How the heck is this guy an international player? Only god knows! His one positive game he had when he replaced suso last time does not justify his playing every other freakin match. Glen johnson was horrible tonight and what this fuss about shelvey all about? He is just another overhyped british youngster who is average at best..BR need to revert back to using suso but since enrique is now playing in the front three with suarez and sterling, maybe its about time he is played in his prefered position in center of the field! But for this to happen he will have to either drop captain once fantastic gerrard, or welsh xavi Allen. Will BR have the balls to do it!?

    ReplyDelete
  124. It getting kind of funny. If I put together all the players that according to some folks on here shouldn't have started, we'd virtually use our U-19s. Allen, Hendo, Downing according to you, someone else wanted Gerrard, Reina and Johnson left out.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Yeah, let's change manager every half year. Let's spend our entire transfer kitty on pay-offs and buy-outs of managers. Let's turn our transfers into a revolving door with every manager bringing in his own players, every transfer window. Now, that would make a stable club.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Yeah, come back when we are winning.

    ReplyDelete
  127. While his dribbling is pretty good at times, Assaidi didn't exactly convince so far. Samed Yesil has looked as if he needed at least two more years to be ready for Prem action. Coady though looked quite ok in his one game so far.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Now, this is a well thought out comment. Refreshing to read something else than hysterically slating the manager and the team in general. Keep up the good work.

    ReplyDelete
  129. To me, Spurs just were a better team overall. They moved better, passed better, and created danger, while we (once again) did not look like having a plan for creating scoring chances.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Well put. But the downing option was not his greatest decision....

    ReplyDelete
  131. Not at all all we play much better footie now....I'm disappointed though...

    ReplyDelete
  132. A few things...

As soon as the line up included Downing and Henderson the loss was inevitable. How could BR not see that Lennon would wreck havoc against Downing? Who, may add, cannot defend or attack!

Henderson is just an average player, nothing against him personally of course but footballwise he is average. Sure in Sunderland he stood out but not here.

Gerrard is playing too deep. I would like to see us playing without him, I think it might be positive.

Attackers need confidence to take on a man or try a few dribbles. Assaidi needs to play. And Suso too although I am still not convinced by him yet needs to play.

BR seems a bit soft, but of course one cannot tell for sure.

We need some attacking reinforcements in Jan.

Oh... And BR needs to stop overpraising average team performances especially if we lose or draw. Superb, outstanding, brilliant, fantastic should only be used if it's truly warranted. I.E:

Liv vs Real Madrid 2008-09 was outstanding, fantastic, brilliant

Liv vs Man Utd 2008-09 was outstanding, fantastic, brilliant

Liv vs AC Milan 2004-2005 was outstanding, fantastic, brilliant

Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool 2012-2012 was not outstanding, fantastic or brilliant. We played well at time especially in the 2nd half but calling it that is a bit too much.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Not being given penalties cannot be considered "irrelevant". Penalties more often than not convert to goals. Being denied goal scoring chances by foul play that goes unpunished has 2 negative impacts for Liverpool.

    1) Opposition teams become aware that the use of illegal means to prevent Liverpool players scoring is not going to be punished.
    2) Morale dips as it is natural to feel that if Liverpool have to play against 11 opposition players and a referee/linesman every game they have less chance than every other team to get points rewards before the game even kicks off.

That is not even addressing legal goals being disallowed for "offside"...

    ReplyDelete
  134. Jamie
I think Brendan has every right to criticise someone for diving... Everyone does it to us man!
Hes not gonna say yes Suarez dives is he. Hes the Liverpool manager so in the media hes gonna be supportive of his players. Hes not gonna say anythin bad about Liverpool unless they play shit which is very rare in my eyes. What do you want him to say like... Yes Suarez is a diver.. What do you think Suarez will think of that... It wasnt long ago you were criticisin Rogers for bringin SUso off early cause it might effect his confidence. But its alright to slag Suarez sayin yeah he dives? I dont understand?
Relying on ref to make decisions to gain an advantage... How can you not rely on the ref to follow the rules an make correct decisions. Its ridiculous. Gerrard was pulled down in the box from behind... No penalty! Dempsey clearly dives and its a freekick which they score from. 2 Massive decisions which ultimately cost us the game. How can Gerrard score from open play if hes gettin dragged to ground from behind without gettin the decision. Gerrard got battered a few times with no decision!
You have to rely on the ref to make the right decisions. How can you not? These ridiculous decisions made by refs have already cost us alot of points through out the season. Atleast 1 point yesterday. Should of got all 3 against everton but for poor offside decision. Poor offside decision against Swansea for enriques goal. 1 angle clearly showed on Skysports after the CityChelsea game that he was onside. How many points is that off the top of my head. 5 minimum lets say. That puts us in a much better position.
Put it this way if that was van persie yesterday that woulda been a pen no question!
So now you say hes making subs too late.. First too early and now too late haha... Ridiculous!
We played well but for poor ref decisions as Brendan said. Tottenham away is never easy, I thought we were unlucky to not get atleast a point. Im glad we didnt sign that dempsey. Hes shite!
I understand opininions are opinions mate. Thats mine. No offense intended.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Huh? Where'd my comment go?? I actually agreed with you! I disagree more often than not and that stays on and now I agree the comment disappears? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  136. Brendan Rodgers is a football genius!

    ReplyDelete
  137. Don't ever say that. For any reason. No matter what.
    Roy was an unmitigated disaster.
This team need a striker or two. Other than that they play pretty well. Roy had NFI what was going on. Remember the face rub. Please, for the sake of my blood pressure, don't ever mention his name again.

    ReplyDelete
  138. As Pete Townsend (ask yer Dad) wrote... "Meet the new boss, Same as the old boss!"

    ReplyDelete
  139. Really?
We were always whining about not getting penalties last year, but the truth is we got more than most and missed the majority of them.

The only difference from last season is that when we were shocking Kenny said so, instead of saying "we were outstanding".

    ReplyDelete
  140. Sore losers.......
posted in my lunch time, Do you have them in skivvypool

    ReplyDelete
  141. Sore loser, go and sign on

    ReplyDelete
  142. I did say "more often than not" pens convert to goals. Last year when Liverpool missed pens that was Liverpool's fault and issue to resolve. Also Steven Gerrard was injured when most of those pens were missed - this season he is available to take them - his conversion rate is high thus Liverpool are probably short some goals/points by unfair means.

If a team misses 100 out of 100 pens should referees then feel justified in no longer awarding pens to that team even when they are fouled in the penalty box?

As for BR's "outstanding" comments - maybe he feels if he also turns on the team then that will further erode morale...

    ReplyDelete
  143. Not a big fan of theory of conspiracy but...
Two players are constantly told they can leave ASAP, and manager publicly states on several occasions they are not in long term plans.
Then we play against a better squad, away, so losing is not too embarrassing and it wont cost him his job. And what does he do- plays them both looking for the final excuse to let them go, and unfortunately, they give him that excuse, sorry- reason.
By the way I'd much rather see our lb Enrique come in late to save Lennon's goal, than our lw playing lb do it, and I'd much rather see our lw Downing shoot lousy from 11 yards then our lb do it. If you play them both- play them in their positions.
PS: I would like to have somebody reasonable to convince me I am wrong in the first part of my post since I do not want to believe it, but that is how I saw it yesterday...

    ReplyDelete
  144. first half we had 4 100% chances, they 1.

    ReplyDelete
  145. That stat that matter most is chances created I doubt it was more than 5. Spurs won the game in the first 20 mins, the onus was on Liverpool after that to threaten, the fact that the only goal scored was a gift own goal says it all.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I thought penalties are part of the game Jaimie otherwise lets do away with them altogether.

    ReplyDelete
  147. In my opinion,if any one is staring into the floodlights it is BR.He can't do or say a thing w/out being crucified.Benching SG....team/fans unsettled,he's probably been told to showcase unwanted players,team/fans unsettled.Showering praise on his team shows he is trying his hardest to endear himself to fans/owners.I dont think it's worthwhile being critical of refs, they hold all the aces, when i saw dowd, my expectation of an entertaining game went south.Imagine what BR thought.Staring into the headlight?..I dont think he's blinked in 3 or 4 months.

  148. A supporter of a different club obviously

    ReplyDelete
  149. Does no one on the efffing site realize that the stats are skewed becasue they sat back after going 2-0!!! my god you people are thick. we didnt dominate

  150. signs a shit player in borini and its a blessing hes injured, plays a crap left winger at right back who has not had 1 good competitive game in a red shirt, Henderson on a good day plays the ball sideways not backwards, and gerrard in any other season playing this many games would have more goals. no plan B, and another striker twice the player borini is put out on loan.
hes already lost faith in suso and shelve, for what reason?
    just clueless

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  154. carroll = assists and a goal !!

    ReplyDelete
  155. agree. top players don't need other players next to them especially centre mid to be decent. you can either pick a pass or you cant or you can win tackle or you cant, allen is struggling to do those 2 things at least.

    ReplyDelete
  156. sounded sensible till you got to the downing bit. downing doesn't have the balls to be a lfc player, regardless how well he plays with his mates in training, its like a rabbit in the headlights come match day

    ReplyDelete
  157. Quite true. I abandoned Liverpool a while back - they just were not worthy of my support. And boy am I glad I did.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Give Henderson another two years and he'll probably manage a halfway decent game. It hasn't happened yet but, who knows? United fans must be urinating with mirth. Who can blame them? Their great enemy stuck with players like Henderson.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Apta stats. Yep, that's what's important. Not points. Why didn't I think of that. Apta stats. Yeah, they lost again but the Apta stats were great. They lost again but the team was terrific. They couldn't hit a barn door but they are brilliant. They have Henderson in the team but they are a top side. Apta stats. No wonder Liverpool are a total laughing stock. Still, that doesn't matter because the Apta stats are great.
By the way, I watched games in the sixties, seventies and eighties , when LFC had a team and a manager. Wouldn't cross the road for a free ticket now. Liverpool's football bores me rigid.

    ReplyDelete
  160. My team won the league last year without losing a single game. There's a clue for you. Sadly, we have lost a couple this year but at least we're still top. Hope it stays that way. I only wish we'd bought Suarez and then we'd have the league in our pocket again. Luis deserves to play or a decent club.

How much of their own money have the owners actually spent on transfers not including money raised from player sales? Obviously all the money spent is their own money because they own the club but you know what I mean!! Have they really dipped into their own pockets to get us top players?! Even if Kenny wasted money we still need big investment to reach the level we want to be at and that has to start in Jan otherwise we are f@$ked! God help us, YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  164. while dalglish wasted millions and millions more? we play one striker because we only have one striker. everyone knows rodgers wasn't sanctioned a striker deal by FSG. if rodgers sticks with stevie, what makes you think dalglish wouldn't? he would arguably give stevie much more of a chance, as well as loyalty
