Everton hero insists: €18m goalscorer would be a 'great buy' for LFC. Agree...?

Earlier today, the Agent of Anzhi star Lacina Traore confirmed that Liverpool 'have made contact' over the purchase of the 6'8 striker, and according to former Manchester United and Everton star Andrei Kanchelskis, the Ivory Coast International would be a good buy for the club.

Speaking to Russia newspaper Isvestia, Kanchelskis - who is now the manager of Anzhi rivals Volga Nizhny Novgorod - praised Liverpool's history, and urged the 22-year old striker to sign for the club. He said:

"Traore has all the attributes, height, technique, speed, in order to start playing in England.

"For Liverpool, he would be a great buy, especially givent the current state of affairs in the team.

"If he receives offers from Premier League teams and especially from Liverpool, he has to go".

To be honest, I'm not convinced. The idea of having a 6'8 striker up front is not appealing, principally because it opens up the possibility of route-one football, which is seemingly the opposite of what Brendan Rodgers wants.

Traore may be good on the ground but the presence of such a tall striker on the field could have a psychological impact on team-play at times, i.e. players will know there is a massive guy up front who will probably win everything in the air, so they'll probably play more high balls as a result.

The club has already gone the huge striker route with Peter Crouch, and although he did a good job for the club, he couldn't scale Suarez/Torres-style heights.

Traore joined Anzhi for €18m in June 2012, and I sincerely doubt that the Russian club would let him go just a year later for anything lower than that, especially if he continues to play well for them.

If Traore ends up being one of a series of striking options then that would be fine, but the main option; a player brought in to play most games? I hope not, especially for €18m+.

Traore recently described Liverpool as 'a good team', and in an interview over the weekend, he revealed his love of the Premier League:

"England is a great place to play, I am no different to any other player. It is a dream but I am happy here, although you never know."

  1. They are too rich to sell him if he is any good...

  2. Not going to happen - too expensive....

  3. He would be a bad buy for us as we'd lose him for a couple of months for the Africa cup of nations leaving us where we are now. FSG will not spend that kind of money again.

  4. Nope! Would rather spend £18 million on someone else.

  5. Haven't seen much of him but Robbie Fowler didn't rate him at all after watching him the other night , and it would make a mockery of the Andy Carroll " big man " thing . I'd have Andy Carroll back tomorrow .

  7. though he scored a good goal, I thought his overall play was poor and he seemed gangly and doesnt seem to try very hard.

  8. Good point Jamie, it wont suit the route one football. Agree with the others, would be a bad deciosn to but if you consider the african nations, and the fact we have a 'Tall' striker currently on loan!

    Let hope it doesnt happen!

  12. unfortunatley Jamie, you have not given any good reason why we shouldn't sign Traore, from all indications he is a good striker who knows where the net is. We did not get rid of carroll because he was tall! we got rid of him because he cannot score and his passing is terrible.

  13. Robbie Fowler was a great player for Liverpool but he is not some one the club should listen to when making decisions on whom to buy whether Fowler rates him or not is irrelevant. Everybody who saw the second leg against Anzhi has seen what this player can do. For a big man he is fast and very agile. Kirk the big man scored against us and had many more chances to score against us on that night. If Carroll was half this talented he would still be playing at Liverpool now. No not a mockery of the "big man" thing since the player is also good with the ball on his feet. Carroll is as good as gone mate.

  17. 1 good goal that we saw because he was playing against us? A former premier league player recommending him, was this even worth talking about? Given how borini was signed lets hold fire and also stop getting excited about every player who did something good that we saw or was talked about in the press or online.

  19. It's worth a punt. If it does not work out, FSG can always sell Traore to the highest bidder in the NBA.
