In recent weeks, Liverpool have been linked with a number of goalkeepers, including Jack Butland, Jason Steele, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and despite Brad Jones' great form deputising for Pepe Reina, the speculation just keeps on coming. The latest 'Keeper to be linked with the club is Wigan stopper Ali Al-Habsi, but it appears that the 30 year old has no interest in moving to Anfield.
In an interview with the Wigan Evening Post last night, the 6'5 Omani International emphatically underlined his commitment to Wigan. He said:
"I heard about what was said at the weekend, but that kind of thing is not of any importance to me.
"I am very, very happy at Wigan - as has been the case since I first came here. I am doing well, my form is coming on with every game I play, and my confidence is very high.
"All I want to do is concentrate on my job here and to help the team, because there is lots of work to be done."
According to The Mirror:
"Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants to [sign] Ali Al Habsi in a £7 million move, as he looks for TWO new keepers.
"Rodgers has told his spies to find him a senior No.1 and a young understudy as he plans to shake up that department in the next stage of his Anfield revolution".
I'm all for a goalkeeping change at Liverpool, but if history proves anything it's that bringing in two 'keepers at the same time is a recipe for disaster. Gerard Houllier tried it with Jerzy Dudek and Chris Kirkland, but the truth is there is just no way to keep two top quality goalkeepers happy.
Of all the goalkeepers linked with Anfield recently, Al Habsi is arguably the pick of the bunch, and I seriously doubt he would turn down a transfer if the club made a concrete move.

I was saying a few weeks ago he would be a good signing. After the last two Celtic vs Barca matches Forster looks an animal. And he's able to catch a shot something that no keepers seem to be able to do!
ReplyDeleteOf all the goalkeepers linked with us i think Andre Ter Stegen is the one we should try to sign, he is incredibly talented goalkeeper and in future could be the best in the business.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you find this crap where linked with about 20 players and we will sign 2 .
ReplyDeleteAl-Habsi is a brilliant shot stopper but I don't think he is a complete 'keeper. I think if he were at a bigger club, and under more scrutiny, he wouldn't be quite so highly rated.
ReplyDeleteCertainly the most entertaining 'keeper in the league, from a neutral perspective.
What ever happened to Rene Adler? He looked superb a couple of years ago. I'd go for Neuer (if we're talking a first team keeper) and hope the antipathy he gets from some Bayern fans would be enough to convince him to leave.
We'd be best off getting a young keeper who looks a top prospect but isn't established for a big club. To be honest, I think Butland wouldn't be prepared to stall his progress and face being on the bench for us. That goes double for Ter Stegen. I can't really think of someone off the top of my head but this is why we have scouts! Maybe Zieler or that fella from Toulouse I've heard good things about (can't remember his name).
I'd have a look around the MLS. Should be cheap and willing to challenge for a place rather than expect a guarenteed one. I've remember reading good press about Bill Hamid.
Yep, I watched a lot of Celtic games last season and he looks great. Very tall too.
ReplyDeleteNewcastle let him go for a pittance because they had Krul. Shame we don't have a scouting network or we could have intervened between him being on loan at Celtic and moving there permanently.

ReplyDeletekanwar you cunt!!
getting a sound defence might be a good start
ReplyDeleteI really liked Hugo Lloris, Maarten Stekelenburg & Manuel Neuer. I think its a pity we didnt try and get Lloris this last transfer before Spurs signed him. He is also quite upset there now. I also didnt understand why we signed Doni when for a bit extra we could have got Stekelenburg. Not sure how long his contract was for but I think if we were to shelve out 7mill for a Keeper he is much better than Al Habsi and I think Roma would take it as its more than they paid for him. But in saying that I think Neuer is the best of the lot and would be well worth a shot at seeing if we could lure him over.
ReplyDeleteBring in an experienced goalie and move Pepe on in January. he is seriously lacking in confidence now. I have lost confidence in him. I am sure I am not alone.
ReplyDeleteIf by any mean we are gonna replace Jose Manuel Reina that must be with Marc-André ter Stegen. No other replacement choice is ucceptable!
ReplyDeleteCeltic's goalkeeper Foster is much better keeper than Jack Butland. And may be cheaper as well.
ReplyDeleteI think Foster is more than ready for playing in first team for Liverpool, not Butland yet.
transfer link no. 324645868765
ReplyDeleteI have visited Oman, Al Habsi is treated like a God, being the only ever Gulf Arab to play in the EPL
ReplyDeleteHe is a great shot stopper however he is prone to make errors too, he will make a brilliant reflex save one moment and drop a clanger the next, he reminds me of Tim Howard at Everton who is similar, tremendous reflexes however anything hit from distance he misses.
I'm a lifelong Liverpool fan, but also a Wigan season ticket holder. I'm not so sure he would jump at the chance to move. At Wigan he's guaranteed first choice. Why move to a club where he'd be number 2? At his age, he wants to stay in the first-team. And, what else can Liverpool realistically offer? He is at a club that is level on points. Liverpool cannot offer Champions' league football in the near future. The way things are this season, Europa League doesn't look too likely.
ReplyDeletewe will not sign anyone we are linked with i remember being linked with 50 odd players in the summer we signed assiadi and yesil and neither of them where linked with us they were signings out of the blue so just goes to show 95% of the people that we are reportedly linked with we will not end up signing
ReplyDeletedoes anybody know if the nextgen match is live on TV tomorrow. I cant find it in any tv schedules.
ReplyDeleteOur kids playing the game the first team should be playing instead of all this playing sideways crap that is the Swansea style
YANKY OWNERS ALL OVER,THEY ARE NOT PREPARED TO SPEND ON QUALITY!
ReplyDeleteTHEY SPENT 'TOO MUCH' ON Dagliesh crap signings!~.
i would not trust BR to spend my money
ReplyDeleteclueless brenda plays carra and cole and guess what
ReplyDeletehow much worse r we gonna get before we get betta ,or we gonna get even worse .......
ReplyDeletehere are the stats that count, jones is doin well and reina is crap
ReplyDeleteAll this talk about new keepers is irrelevant to the improvement of Liverpool FC. Had to stop watching them play against Anzi in Russia tonight. The first thing FSG must do is get rid of our Gaelic football manager and bring back Rafa. Would he have sent a reserve, reserve side out to represent our great club and city? I know he wouldn't!
ReplyDeleteThe team is playing like civil servants - never do a task in one move that you can do in ten. My head was light watching ring-a-rosie football. Anyone coming in from work would not know which way they were playing. Tipsy-tapsy football with no cutting edge and they were playing in blue too!
Please return Rafa and rescue our great club before it sinks into the Mersey to disappear for all time.
The BR apologists quiet tonight
ReplyDeletequite simple his style of football doesn t suit us and its f**kin painful to watch . answer get shut.hodgson style well you only have to watch england answer got shut .we have gone backwards since last season should have give kenny and steve clarke another `12 months .cos this is so f""kin poor
ReplyDeleteandy carroll back, as the owners will not be willing to spend on anyone better. if we have to loan anymore players than we clearly are a mid table team at best and its just getting more embarrassing. this could end up being our worst prem season to date.
ReplyDeletecome january if we dont secure 3 top players its over for liverpool under fsg.
all well and good with these great young players, but are they really going to want to stay and be in a top liverpool team and have to wait 6 years + to hopefully be part of the fsg plan.
its not realistic these days
andy carroll was on fire and treated like dog shit by rodgers .hope we can get him back in jan and hopefully have a new manager in place. rushed home from work tonnite to watch that piss poor effort.RODGERS U ARE THE MOST BORING MANAGER EVER TAKE UR TIC TAC FOOTBALL AND F""K OFF u r not good enough to manage our club
