'Disappointed!' - BR & Moyes on Suarez's disallowed goal & 'dive' celebration...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has shown admirable restraint when discussing the breathtakingly incompetent decision to deny Liverpool a winning goal in the 2-2 draw with Everton earlier this afternoon.

In a post-match interview after the game, Rodgers praised his team's 'fantastic' performance, and acknowledged the contribution of the 'outstanding' Luis Suarez, and when asked about the disallowed goal, he responded calmly, observing:

"I think everyone can see that it was a clear goal.

"Fantastic header by Sebastian, and Luis timed his run perfectly. Sometimes it happens like that.

"Officials are going to make mistakes, but we’re disappointed with the winner we should’ve had because those are clear goals and decisions you’d expect officials at this level to get.

"We’ve had it all season, with things going against us, but we’ll get some decisions someday".

After scoring the first goal, Suarez ran half the length of the pitch and did a Klinnsman-esque diving celebration right in front of David Moyes.

Responding to that, Rodgers noted:

"We get a bit too carried away at times. It was a bit of wit, and there are lots of people around Merseyside who’ll take that in good spirits".

Everton manager David Moyes conceded that Suarez was not offside for the disallowed goal, and he took the Suarez 'dive' incident in good spirits:

"I thought it was great. I probably would've done the same. Suarez will have to dive in front of a lot of Premier League managers though"

Moyes also admitted that Phil Neville dived, and said he'd spoken to him about it. In a post-match interview, Neville himself said he was 'stupid' to dive, and explained that he did so because he thought Daniel Agger 'was about to take me out'.

  1. Seriously man fcuk ref...why against LFC....why????

  2. Moyes was allowed to say to "watch out for divers" so Suarez was allowed to 'say' his piece in my opinion. Also that disallowed goal is a joke. Football these days is being ruined... and each season that goes by my love for it dies just a little bit more...

  3. To be fair, it's not really the ref; he reacted to the linesman, who he's entitled to trust.

  4. Well in all honesty we were torn apart after the our secoond goal. Miralles and baines destroyed wisdom but suso never helped wisdom out and he did not offer much going forward today sterling flopped today also after missing a clear chance and risked a red at times but suarez was man of the match today if rodgers had played assaidi today for sterling 3 pts would have been ours. next weekend i hope assaid takes sterlings or suso's place because both were average but it was their first derby and they are inexperienced so i cant blame them but the future isnt looking that bad with rodgers

  5. They should Moyes to comment on the yellow Neville gotten when dived with no contact whatsoever with Agger. Hypocrite!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Neville make moyes eat his word on diving, now who has the last laugh LOlllll....

    ReplyDelete
  7. He did comment; he admitted Neville dived, and said he'd spoken to him about it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. what about neville dive..."Are you watching david moyes" from the crowd....nobody will talk about that..

  9. Do something BR otherwise we will relegate by referees at the end of the season.

  10. The assistant referee was the one today who made “his miracle” and didn’t allow LFC to get the win. But besides that, Brendan Rodgers and his coaching team didn’t read the game well! He presented a team that was not prepared for such a game. The team had no team spirit and nerve, it was pale and unlinked. Brad Jones was not prepared in any way to replace Jose Manuel Reina, Andre Wisdom was very weak on the line, Raheem Sterling had a poor performance. In conclusion, it was another problematic and average performance from Brendan Rodgers’ team. We should all be wondering if Brendan Rodgers will finally put things in the right way!

  11. To be fair the disallowed goal was prob the hardest call of all the many things that have gone against us this season. The others have been clear, this one was at least a split second thing, which does sometimes happen. Slow-mo replys make it look a lot clearer than it prob was in real time.

I loved LS goal celebration. Reminded me of when Fowler did his snort the white line one. It`s all a good crack, and he gets way more stick than any other player for it, dispite not being the worst in the PL.

  12. that was a great game today how can u fall out of love with that??? yeah we should of had a goal but they could of a pen to be fair. the thing that got me was fallani should of been booked on a couple of times but didnt so he bossed the midfield for most of the game. over the years we have done well with the refs in this fixture and been given alot so forget the last min goal and think about the positives, our young team is looking good and they are getting strong each and every game.

  13. Just glad that Moyes was'nt gloating after the match if they won he would of said something about suarez celebration. We have to learn to defend leads and we still need more quality on the wings.Definatley Rodgers is the right man for the job, so lets get a decent forward as wll.

  14. Suarez won that game for LFC; Plain and Simple.

The FA have proved over time that they are incompetent as a ruling body.

Its time that a more competent officiating body presided over the game. The top clubs in England should start an independent consortium and challenge the FA as they are presently out of their depth and bringing the game into disrepute.

Totally agree with 'Will' - Officials are ruining the game and without automation and digital playback re-inforcing decisions, the game will die.

    DOWN WITH THE FA!

  15. If things even themselves out in mersey derbies then everton should be getting these decisions for the next 20 years. Liverpools second goal came from a free kick where Sterling was not even touched.

  16. I think that's a fair assessment. Altogether I thought Mariner was pretty fair today, although he missed the clear goal at the end. I can't say I'm too disappointed even if we could have used the three points - the result was fair enough on the two teams and Rodgers impressed with his tactical nous a la Rafa Benitez.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Shoulda gone to SpecSavers mate...

    ReplyDelete
  18. True, true - and he did take the hilarious celebration by Suarez in good spirits after all. The pre-match jockeying was too much like Sir Alex for my liking, but the sporting attitude after the match was certainly a plus in my book for Moyes ...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ya ok...fcuk officials...!! They warned BR before the match and I think they had a last laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Although the team did deliver on the opening stages - and Rodgers was quick to correct things at half-time. I have been sceptical about Brendan's ability to stand up to the high standards set by Rafa in terms of tactics and game strategy and, even if the original game plan did not work out, his reaction cannot be faulted.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree on everything aside from the penalty - which incident are you referring to?

    ReplyDelete
  22. We should have bagged all 3 points. what a shame? if we are going to be denied by dubious decisions, we are in for a long season ahead. The quality of refereeing is a shambles and it is costing us.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I can't agree less with you my fellow Liverpudlian friend Voland.

  24. im hoping that we bring in huntelaar but im not sure we will get him i really hope that rumour about drogba to lfc is not true coz i hate drogba and his wages are too high

    ReplyDelete
  25. Everton second goal came from similar fault too. It was Mirallas touch and not Wisdom that led the ball out of play.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agreed. down with the FA(rce). nuff is enuff. Let's get the ball rolling. Where do I sign up?

  28. Which game did you watch mate...lo not the same one as me!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. the Lino should be banned for a serious case of "i dont like Suarez"

    ReplyDelete
  30. Everton's second goal came from a Liverpool throw wrongly taken by Everton!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree he took measures to change the game in the second half. But he did not shut down the biggest threat. Fellaiani. Almost all attack was channeled tru him. He should have been shut out. Tactics today was off.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree the have start useing new tec, our game is being ruined by refs.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've yet to see Fellaini play a game where he shouldn't have been sent off.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It all depends by which point of view you watch and analyze a game. If you couldn't identify the tactical weaknesses of LFC today then what can I say more to you.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Am really pissed off with that decision, not just cause it cost us 3 points but because it cost me from winning £290 as well.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Arsenal scored a winner from a clear offside yesterday, got 3 points, liverpool denied a clear winner, get 1 point. FA should get real and sort this out, Rugby have the right idea, if in doubt go to the video judge and get it right every time. These mistakes are happening too often and are ruining the game, also, it could be make or break some clubs, specially if they go down, or don't get champions league football. Disgraceful.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Watch the replay muppet. He was tripped. The bitters first goal was offside, second coming from a throw in that should of gone our way. We need to be shouting for decisions, hate manure but u got to give it them they shout for everything. Anyway as for official's they done us on three goals not one. Go down the old git fergies road come out and say they should never officiate in the prem again.

  40. SO DO ALL YOU LIVERPOOL FANS STILL WANT BRAD JONES IN GOAL..OHH PLEASE WHY WOULD YOU EVER DROP REINA..YOU GET ALL HYPED UP FROM ONE GOOD GAME FORM JONES AND YOU GOING TO REPLACE A LEGEND IN REINA...HES IN THE DISCUSSION OF TOP 2 GOALIES IN OUR CLUBS HISTORY

    ReplyDelete
  41. Agreed. We need replay. The "goal-line" technology they talk about wouldn't have helped here. But it would be nice if something like that could be challenged.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I hate Drogba too. Too many years of swearing at him on other teams to quit hating him now. Plus, he's getting a bit old for this team. I'd like to see them bring in a good future prospect, but we need some 24-26 year old defenders with experience.

    ....and another goal scorer

....and perhaps a better #2 keeper.

  43. it not as enjoyable as when i was a kid thats for sure.

  45. i can't wait to see the papers tomorrow, where moyes slates neville for cheating and makes him share the blame, for "people turning away from the game", due to diving/cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  46. so they admitted it. great, like i said, is moyes going to explain to the world, that neville is now partly to blame, if people turn away from the game? will he condemn other players when it happens, now that he has a blatant cheat playing for him? is he going to heavily fine neville and drop him as a warning to others, that he finds diving/cheating, reprehensible? no, just a quick 'yes, he dived and it was poor', is not good enough from such a vocal, upstanding mouthpiece/crusader, against the evil of diving/cheating. go on dave, show the world how outraged you really are.

  47. im replying to all the people who took the poll that jamie did on this site..85 percent of these plastic fans said they wanted jones to replace reina....and buddy if you look at the stats of bruce and ray compared to reina they will point out that reina has the upperhand on every keeper in our history...numbers never lie....pep has effed up lately but he is still the best option we have

  48. But Evertons second goal came off a throw in that should have been Liverpool's...

    ReplyDelete
  49. 28/10/2012

Everton v Liverpool: Liverpool denied a perfectly legitimate goal in last minute of extra time. It was not a marginal decision - from replays Suarez was clearly nowhere near offside.

Chealsea v Man Utd: Evans made contact with Torres. Torres does go down easily, but there was clear contact. Torres is RED-carded. Even if there was no contact and it was a dive, no-where in the rulebook allows for a RED card for that. The rulebook states a YELLOW card if the referee is SURE the player dived.
75 minutes: Hernandez is clearly OFFSIDE, yet the officials 'miss' this and the goal stands. This wins the game for Man Utd.

Suarez -- "In England, Manchester United's political power is strong and you must respect that and shut your mouth."

I'm not a conspiracy nut, but too many of these 'bad decisions' go in favor of Man Utd at the expense of other clubs.

    Just saying ...

  50. depends what you want rodgers to do ? has the football changed that much and for the better IMO no it took dalglish 3 games after he took over from hodgson, but brendan wants 3 years in the 80's i laughed at man utds 27 yr drought i think the club has gone backwards and the kids were signed by rafa and 1st played under kenny they were always going to play more this season

    ReplyDelete
  51. brad jones might only be short term but reina is well past his sell by date .clem brucey and dudeck are classed as legends . certainly not reina !

    ReplyDelete
  52. And now it's about Suarez making cynical tackles on opponents ! My oh my , do they hate the guy to the core or what

    ReplyDelete
  53. first of all its dudek not dudeck so that right there shows that u dont know sh*t...and buddy look at the stats..to put dudek as a legend just based on one game in istanbul is obsurd...you look at what reina has done in the past two years and judge him on that rather than what he has done in his 7 year stint at Liverpool...reina has played with no where near the quality of players that bruce or ray has played with...and with better competition not to mention...to have spuds and city in the top now days compared to back then wen it was a 3 team race every year

here is an article done by jamie...http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2011/11/pepe-reina-vs-bruce-grobbelaar-stat.html

  55. The linesman only signalled after pressure from the Everton players. So he didn't actually believe it was offside. If he had his flag would have gone up straight away. So to me that's either incompetence or cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  56. TV replays showed he was clipped, although accidentally.

    ReplyDelete

  60. It's down to corruption.

Today, David Gill, the chief executive of Man.UTD was promoted as the vice-president of the F.A.

Today, Man.UTD won the game with an obvious off-side goal and with two opposing players sent off.

I have been told I am a paranoid for pointing these observations out. But time and time again, the English people have shown us they are good at a mass-cover up.

Just look at Hillsborough, Rupert Murdoch and the Jimmy Savile cover-ups, and you will immediately understand why I am right to critique and point out the evident. The media used to call us LFC fans conspiracy theorists. 20 years later, we know who was right all along. Victims of Jimmy Savile's abuse were rudely discredited, now they are finally being believed.

Corruption in football is as widespread as it is in society in general. In fact, football's corruption spills out into society through the large sponsorship deals and what have you. Nothing in this world exists in isolation and it would be wrong to point your finger solely at Man.UTD or the FA. There must be some partners in crime considering the amount of money involved in football nowadays.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes, but that high boot should have been red in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think I said on this site that Suarez should do a 'Klinnsman' the next time he scored.....

  64. we all think it, so I will come out and say it, football is fixed. there are to many wrong decisions in a lot of games that effect the end result for it to be coincidence. Since the refs have become full time it has got worse. I think something stinks and I think it has something to do with the FA and there control of the refs.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Pepe is like Cindy Crawford and Brad Jones is like BIANCA from EastEnders .....no comparison or competition..

  66. Joined all these threads late, so pull me up if it's been done, BUT :

Has anyone mentioned the Blues' singing "Always the Victims" and "Murderers" after a red flare got set off. Funny how they are on their best behaviour when there is a photo opportunity, then show their true colours during the Derby.
Pity, cos it was a great game.

  67. Ever since he made a mockery of Man.UTD's defence and 'scored' that goal against them (actually tapped in by Kuyt) in his first match against them, Fergie has constantly been sniping at him, trying to drive him out of the EPL. Fergie has managed quite well in manipulating the FA's and the public's perception against Suarez. Problem for Fergie is that Suarez is still with us and judging by some of the recent match commentaries of our matches, the media is starting to feel that blaming Suarez for everything wrong which happens in the world is becoming old news and cliche.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Good all around performance only spoilt by a very bad decision by the referee's assistant. Hope he is running the line in the Zingari Alliance for the next few weeks ! Loved the dive in front of Moyes to celebrate the goal. Mate of mine is an Evertonian and he said that they were all laughing their heads off. Very pleased with the way things are progressing at the moment. Looking forward to Wednesday night and Swansea

    ReplyDelete
  69. Jamie,
I dislike the diving too - it's become too big a part of today's game.
I think before the game we'd have taken 2-2 although we did have a wrongly disallowed 'winning goal'.
On the other hand, we really should have been down to 10 men as I reckon LS should have been sent off for his foul on Distin - it was a terrible tackle and could have caused serious injury.
If he had been sent off he wouldn't have been there to score the 'winner'. Things probably will even themselves out over the course of the season
However, ref's must get it right; their decisions can have a bearing on relegation, exit from cups etc which can result in the loss of millions of pounds to clubs. Also, for those who bet on the outcome of matches. I neither bet nor approve of it but if I did and had had sixpence on Liverpool to win, I wouldn't have been best pleased at the wrong decision to disallow the goal.

    ReplyDelete
  70. sorry mate pepe is more like micheal

  71. Still - Moyes in the post-match interview admitted to Neville's dive and condemned it; had no complaints about his yellow card. So IMO not a hypocrite and full marks to Moyes.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ironic twist of events today; the Reds of Manchester blew a 2 goal lead only to score a third deep in the game on a goal that should have been called offside. The Reds of Liverpool blew a 2 goal lead, only to have a legit goal wrongly called off for offside. Starting to get pissed off at Fergie's influence.

    ReplyDelete
  73. the linesman will be demoted . the problem is the fast tracking of these young referees and linesman by the FA . some are not experience enough some are makin the football league line after only 4 years of refereeing.

Has anyone mentioned the Everton "fans'" reaction to a red smoke bomb being set off in the away end? If nobody picked it up on the telly, they were singing "Always the victims", followed by "Mnderers".
Funny how they are on their best behaviour when there's a photo opportunity, but when the Derby comes around and they aint winning, then they show their true colours.

It was quite depressing, especially after their 96 tribute the other week.

  76. I have contacted Merseyside police this evening to report two incidents. In the first half on the right hand touch line there is a challenge on Luis Enrique which results in a throw in. As he collects the ball a person in the crowd is heard crystal clearly shouting 'fuck off you spanish cunt.' Given that John Terry has just faced a criminal trial for a similar allegation I expect an investigation. Also if you rewatch the Suarez dive celebration there is a woman giving him the thumbs down in the crowd. Directly above her is a man in an everton tracksuit who clearly shouts the words, 'go back to where you come from.' In the light of the arrest of two Liverpool supporters last season for allegations of racism I expect similar rigour to be applied. Please also report these crimes on the Merseyside police website. It will only take 5 minutes. After all the Evertonians are clearly determined to wipe out racism, that much is evident from their aversion to Suarez so lets help them with our vigilance.

Just felt it needed to be said. Everton got great plaudits for their tribute the other week, and the Blue9/Red6 brought a lump to my throat. But, and it's a BIG but, all that counts for nothing now because their fans showed how they REALLY feel. And it wasn't just a few either, it was a big chunk of the Park End singing it.
The only thing that was missing was the "pushing" gestures that they used to accompany the songs with....

  91. I think I saw Sahin make ONE pass in the 1st half - that is shocking. Why does a player in on loan have preference over the likes of Jordan Henderson and Jonjo Shelvey? And people claim Joe Cole is a waste of wages...

  92. You been on the crack pipe ?

    Henderson instead of Sahin ?

    ReplyDelete
  93. No. Sahin played in front of Gerrard and Allen and did nothing. He deserved to be axed at half time. IMO Sahin is in the team just by name and not merit. We may as well start Carragher next game then...

    ReplyDelete
  94. Agreed totally. Even the players were a bit shocked when the decision went the wrong way. They just got on with the game though and that unfortunately ended in a goal against us.

    Poor officiating once again.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Completely agree RedX.

Corruption is a disease designed by the rich to plague the common man.

Still feel that a fan or club led forum could have real clout and move mountains as their influence is what drives the game.

Look at the G-14 who are now the European Club Association; not saying there is no corruption there; Its just strength in unity!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Great that Moyes is the one saying 'look out for divers' and yet its his player Neville who gets booked for diving. Nice to see some egg on face :) Diving is a big issue, but as the match showed its not just Suarez who does it. And as for Neville's defence ("I thought Agger was going to take me out"), I'm sure Suarez could use that one, but I'm sure he could also use "there was contact, but I get nothing if I don't go down....". The game has become a joke this season!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Taking to the pitch with that hair is a good starter with regards to heinous crimes. I know its useful to hide the eyebrows, but come on....

    ReplyDelete
  98. It was disallowed for offside not for a foul.

    ReplyDelete
  99. SAW THAT BLOKE IN THE TRACKSUIT SHOUTIN SOMETHING BUT COULDN T UNDERSTAND HIM AS I DONT SPEAK WELSH!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Absolutely.

The power of the European Club Association is undeniable. It's enough to look at the fact that big clubs tend to have big decisions go their way against smaller clubs.

What makes me fear the effectiveness of a fan or club led forum to combat corruption is that very often, fans have double standards. For example it's ok and "part of the game" if their club cheats and wins but it is a disgrace if the opposite happens. Your idea is good idea in theory but I doubt whether it would work due to the fickle nature of most people.

Ideally, an independent board would be set-up or at least, people with no ties to any club would be involved along with fans in such process to ensure critical and objective thinking.

It's telling that a lot of people are afraid of reporting corruption because they fear the power corrupt people have.

If football continues down this route, I would seriously consider not follow it any more. Just as many people have lost faith in politicians, similarly, people would lose faith in football.

How recent political issues in football have been handled, eg, the appointment of David Gill as FA vice-president and the racism issues, has been very questionable and inconsistent. The man Gill is replacing is Sir Dave Richards, a man who held important roles in the FA and UEFA and a man who rejected the proposal of a Hillsborough memorial because he feared legal action.

When you see all this conflict of interests in such important positions, the reality of corruption should surprise nobody.
