Prior to Denmark's World Cup qualifier defeat to Italy last night, Liverpool defender Daniel Agger warned his teammates to keep a close eye on the 'unstoppable' Mario Balotelli. It seems Agger's warning went unheeded as the Manchester City striker scored one goal and set-up another to help Italy secure a 3-1 victory. After the game, Balotelli revealed his unhappiness with Agger's tough approach to defending.
Speaking to the Press after the game, Balotelli - who now has 5 goals in 15 games for the Italy national team - said:
“I have absolutely no problem with Agger, but in the first half he did a nasty tackle on Andrea Pirlo and I got angry.
"These things happen on the field, and off it we’re all friends".
Before the game, Agger tried his best to warn his team-mates about the threat of Balotelli: He said:
"Balotelli is unstoppable sometimes; he never gets nervous, and the whole team must work together to stop him.
"We have to make sure we stop him getting hold of the ball. His a talented footballer with a great shot at least one good shot, and he also makes many chances".
I thought Agger was exaggerating a little with his assessment of the Italian's threat, but clearly, he was right to be worried!
The most important thing is Agger came through the game unscathed :-)

Im surprised Agger didnt end up injured. Lets hope that continues.
ReplyDeleteOn a completely off topic-ish note...
I played football the other day.... and i dived.... Im ashamed to admit it. There was contact but I probably could have stayed on my feet, but I made sure I got the free kick..... Nothing came from it though.
Well I feel better for that now! Thanks!
Balotelli needs some anger management training then.
ReplyDeleteEvery time an international break comes our biggest worry is players coming back crocked. 2 casualities thus far. England has not even played yet. hoping for the best.
ReplyDeleteYour sin has been forgiven.
ReplyDeleteIm a fan of Balotelli's and im a big fan of Agger's, however Balotelli has put in nasty challenges himself in his career sometimes you don't mean to go in the way it ends up and in slow mo it always looks a lot worse. I remember Balotelli booting Skrtel in the head he probably didn't mean it but it looked bad so he needs to control his anger
ReplyDeleteatleast you admit your ashamed lol
ReplyDeleteif that was an england player and someone just hurt his team mate, he wouldnt care
ReplyDeleteWho cares it's England so he's probably a manc or a cockney any way so good
ReplyDeleteI hate scum bag cheats!
ReplyDeleteDon't make him any less a cheat!
ReplyDeleteAnd Agger needs to give up his day job and go find something he's good at, if he has to ask his team mates to help him out he will never be a great defender.
ReplyDeleteAgger is an average player at an average club, who plays for an average national team and he will amount to an average nothing because he's just a thug.
I hope your injuries amount to far more and ours.
ReplyDeleteBalotelli may have committed a few fouls before but Agger does it on a daily basis, hes a bloody dirty thug.
ReplyDeleteAs for you being a fan of both, I see through you as your nothing but a verbally materialistic numpty that thinks just because he starts a sentence off with such, thinks it makes his comment stronger and more valid. FAIL!
Your just a big softy Jason who has a soft spot for my team, you know you love us really.
ReplyDeleteWhile there surely are quite a few football players who can be considered thugs, Agger surely isn't one of them. By the way, that average national team has actually won more than England in the past 45 years.
ReplyDeleteHalfpenny, your comments aren't even worth that little amount of money.
ReplyDeleteHow old are you? Twelve?
ReplyDeleteYou clearly come across as someone who will have a lot of trouble and difficulties to deal with in life.
ReplyDeleteGuess you have never played football yourself.
ReplyDeleteAs a football fan, It is appalling that you would like to see players injured just because they do not play
ReplyDeletefor the team you support. Your mom would be very proud of you.
Easy man, it was just a joke!
