Liverpool are reportedly considering a January bid for PSV Eindhoven winger Dries Mertens.
The Belgian star has been linked with a move to Anfield in the past, and according to a source close to the player, the 25-year old would 'love' to play for a 'prestigious English club':
"Liverpool first wanted Mertens when Kenny Dalglish was manager but they are still making their interest well known.
"He would obviously love to play for such a prestigious club in English football but right now he can only focus on producing strong performances for PSV"
€12-rated Mertens is having a great season for PSV so far, grabbing four goals and six assists in the first seven league matches.
In his first season at PSV, Mertens scored 25 goals in 43 matches, grabbing 3 hat-tricks along the way.
The Belgian international's goal record may be good, but as we've seen with Dirk Kuyt, Mateja Kezman, Luis Suarez and other players who came from Holland, scoring a shedload of goals in the Eredivisie doesn't always mean the same will happen in the Premier League.
Having said that, Mertens' countryman Eden Hazard is not doing too badly in the Premier League, and he came from a comparatively weaker league.

its reckoned that whatever a player scores in holland can be divided by 3 if they move to the EPL. However, this guy is good value and worth a punt imo.
ReplyDeleteToo costly. We already have similar or better prospect in Asaaidi. IMO if our budget is 10-20-30-40-50-60mn whatever the hell it is.....bring the goddamn STRIKER.....!!
ReplyDeleteI think BRENDAN RODGERS will go for THEO WALCOTT and try to convert him into the striker he wants to be.
ReplyDeleteFERNANDO LLORENTE would be the one I'd go for but his age and the competition for his signature makes that unlikely.
DRIES MERTENS looks to have talent but I wouldn't want to stunt the growth of STERLING or SUSO by bringing him in.If we were to make a move for this type of player I would prefer ISCO.
Mertens would be a really good signing, he isn't a natural goalscorer but would work perfectly as a part of front three coming from the wings. Mertens is a really exciting player and i would love to see him in a Liverpool shirt.
ReplyDeleteI suppose if it means Rodgers is going to get rid of Downing yes definitely.
ReplyDeletethis kid is very like robbie fowler , buy him ,
ReplyDeleteWatching Assaidi against Udinese did not inspire great confidence. I hope he can develop into a great player, however if Mertens is the real deal already he might be a great addition to Liverpool's forward line.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if we can capture Isco it's a no brainer - and I don't think he would stand in the way of Suso or Sterling but would complement our existing players in (attacking) midfield and up front.
ReplyDeleteIf he is as good as Luis then I am all for him joining our team...
ReplyDeleteSo, using that formula Van Persie must have been scoring at least 90 goals a season on Holland??
ReplyDeletefowler was a striker this guys a winger so how is he very like fowler dose he own loads of houses
ReplyDeleteBUY HIM BUT NOT MORE THAN 10MILLION OR CALL BACK CARROL IN JANUARY
ReplyDeleteplease rodgers buy mertens i have said this before.mertens is better than hazard he makes instant impact, score goals and creates a lot of chances.he will be a great addition just wacth him agaist england and holland in the freindlies .he is just great.will lve to see him at liverpool.he could be our own hazard just hope this happen i will be the happiest person in the world.hes not like assaidi hes far better just watch him play and you will mavel
ReplyDeleteSign Him!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSign him and another striker like ba
ReplyDeleteThis lads a really good player but we need an out and out striker first and formost. I think Downing should go in January he just Isn`t good enough Imo. If FSG are serious about our club then they should give Brenden Rodgers the funds to buy a striker ( hopefully Demba Ba. ) Maybe Mertens and a decent leftback too, I dont think Llorente would come to Anfield thats why I said Ba I think he would score goals more so than Walcott also. Januarys going to be the make or break for our season, could be the difference between champions league football or another poor under acheiveing season.
ReplyDeleteGet rid of Downing and get him.
ReplyDeleteI think liverpool owners should look at the coach who can win games not display only.
