This season, Liverpool's persistent defensive mistakes have cost the club valuable Premier League points, and unsurprisingly, the Reds continue to be linked with a January move for a new Central defender. In the last week, the likes of Andreas Granqvist and Brede Hangeland have been mentioned in connection with club, and the latest player to join the list is Montpelier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who has also previously been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal.
According to respected Italian Daily Newspaper La Stampa, the Reds are close to making an offer for the 22-year old French defender. The report states:
"Liverpool are interested in signing Yanga-Mbiwa, and are convinced that the player can make a positive impact in the Premier League.
"The club is ready to make an offer important, and AC Milan will have to match that offer if they are to have any chance of signing the player".
Despite Liverpool's interest, it seems that £7m-rated Yanga-Mbiwa has his heart set on a move to Arsenal or Man United. Responding to rumours in May, he told Canal Plus:
"Playing for Manchester United would give great satisfaction and it would mean a dream could become a reality. Arsenal too are a big team"
Yanga-Mbiwa's contract expires in June 2013, which means he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.
The France international recently sparked controversy after he viciously elbowed in the face Romain Hamouma in Montpelier's 1-1 home draw against St Etienne last Friday. He is now serving a 5 match ban for the incident.
Given the fact he's in the last year of his contract, any club that comes in will probably be able to get the player for a reduced fee. Worth a bid?

He looks really good proper leader. Also he be better than skrtel! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, but we've got Shelvey who gets angry and get's carded, Suarez who gets angry and gets carded, do we really want another guy who is notorius for getting more cards than a blackjack deck? Yeah he looks good, but he's not doing much for his team while he's riding the bench for 5 games. If he does that for us, and Skrtel is gone, who's next on the depth chart?
ReplyDeletei know Giroud said they need to bring some violence to the league after montpelier's bad start to the season. but thats taking the piss. I was hoping having Giroud in our squad might help tip the balance but after seeing that. not so sure! brutal, i think RVP has been taking lessons..
ReplyDeleteBad news.
ReplyDeleteHangeland does not fit the FSG age policy, so once and for all, forget him arriving at Anfield.
ReplyDeleteYanga (black belt) Mbiwa is a Stoke City player if I ever seen one.
With all the brutality wouldn't he fit best at Stoke though!
