Liverpool continue to monitor HSV Hamburg star Son Heung-min, and reports in Germany today claim that the Reds are on the verge of making an offer for the South Korean striker.
Son has been linked with Liverpool several times over the last few months, and according to respected German newspaper Bild, Brendan Rodgers is is close to putting in an offer. The report states:
"After four goals in seven Bundesliga matches for Hamburg, Liverpool FC want him, and they plan to make a €10.5 (£8m) million bid.
"Son is also wanted by Borussia Dortmund"
The 20-year old's current contract expires in 2014, and he is known for his dribbling skills, close control, and electric pace.
Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink believes Son's form in front of goal has drastically improved recently. He enthused:
“He practises shooting in training every day and it shows that doing more than others pays off.”
That may be the case, but Son is hardly a prolific goalscorer. Last season, he grabbed 6 goals in 31 appearances for Hamburg, which is nothing to write home about. He's started this season strongly, but €10.5m for an inexperienced youngster? No chance, and I doubt Liverpool would pay anywhere near that much anyway.
Do Liverpool really need another young, untested striker anyway? The club already has Samed Yesil, who looks like a potentially excellent player. Just play him in place of Borini over the next few months, and I'm sure he wil do the business.

Jaimie, serious question: "Why are you basing a story around just something that is written in a newspaper?"
ReplyDeleteThere is no proof & no evidence that LFC are bothered about this player in the slightest.
I always thought you were sickened by websites that just post rumours?
I don't know him, but if he keeps this goalscoring record he might be the buisness. I wouldn't rule out a move for him, even if 8m sounds a bit hefty.
ReplyDeleteFor comparison, Van Persie took his time until he started banging them on a regular basis(he scored 22 goals in 78 matches for feynoord before Arsenal signed him. at arsenal he scored 43 in 133 matches before getting his stats up. Kuyt scored more as a winger), and I doubt anyone can say he is not worth the money right now.
Because some newspapers have basis to their rumors, Bild being the most credible in Germany as far as I know.
ReplyDeleteI do agree not every rumor have to be followed by an article though.
I'm sorry, but Bild is not at all a credible source of information. I'm from Germany and I wouldn't even use it as toilet paper! It's the german Sun!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's the second time I've seen you refer to it as credible Jamie. Let me tell you it's an utter tabloid and writes everything that creates money. Pure yellowpress!!!
Bild is the German equivalent of the S*n. I wouldn't call it credible (though it isn't a rag, like Murdoch's monster, either).
ReplyDeleteLooks like we are at the mercy of FSG, £154mill for the Stadium, to increase their profits.
ReplyDeleteWill they be willing to fork out sizeable sums for Players, your guess is as good as mine, who knows. So, if we were interested in small fee players, I would'nt be surprised.
If they do release reasonable funds, then who BR buys, will tell us a lot about him and his long term ambitions. I hope Borini is an only child.
Too late, Aspirin Donor.
ReplyDeleteYesil and Morgan will score goals, don't waste money again on an unproven player!
ReplyDeleteHe is training to shoot everyday means he is not a natural finisher. We have similar types of players already.
ReplyDeleteNot another hendo please.
ReplyDeletesounds similar to theo , and that is what rodgers is looking for. he wont be the main forward but will compete with sterling and borini.
ReplyDeleteanyone dortmund are after must be f good.
Bild is not a respected newspaper. It's a sensationalist tabloid, just like the unnameable or the Daily Mail. There even exists a blog that highlights the lies this 'newspaper' publishes every day. Readers of Bild are considered to be intellectually challenged.
ReplyDeleteBild is the least credible newspaper in Germany.
ReplyDeleteYou can edit it. Don't know whether editing allows you to leave the post blank.
ReplyDelete'to increase their profits'
ReplyDeleteIs there any proof at all that they have made any profit by owning the club, that they have taken any money out of the club? If so, come up with it. Otherwise stop those silly allegations. They probably won't put their own money into transfers or wages and I am glad about that. What good would an owner be, who funded us and left us with players we couldn't afford without him.
Those two you name are more unproven than Son.
ReplyDeleteYes they are and they cost £1m for the pair of them, not £8m!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJaimie, how about Torres? If Chelsea is actually buying Falcao then why not? Apparently, Torres is being nostalgic and he still loves the club.
ReplyDeleteFSG have never taken a dividend from the Boston Redsox, they increase the value of their assets to eventually sell at a later date??. They do not take any money from their teams at all.
ReplyDeleteI did not say they took money out of the Club.
ReplyDeleteWhy are they expanding the Stadium, Profit,
Why did they INVEST in the Club, Profit,
What are their aspirations for the Club, Profit,
What do Venture Capitalists expect, Profit.
Even they will admit that,
They now own an asset worth more than when they invested in it, result, the bottom line, Profit.
I did not say they took Money or Dividends from the Club, please read my post again. FSG will not be in profit for many years, after their initial Investment, and especially when they re- invest in the expansion of. Anfield.
ReplyDeleteWhy would they want to expand the stadium? Well, thinking about it, it could be that they would like to increase the income of the club. Yes, that could be called profit, which could then be spent on new players. Can't see that there's something wrong with that, so what is your problem with expanding the stadium?
ReplyDeleteThey never denied that at some point in the future they may sell the club again. Why would they seek to do this at a loss? Yes, it is hard to take that football clubs are seen as investment nowadays, but unless some super rich philanthropic Liverpool supporter who puts millions of his own money in as if it went out of fashion, there's hardly anything we could do about it.
I actually would like to contest your assumption that our club would be worth more than 300m in the market right now. Unless some oil-rich person is interested I would like to think that FSG would have problems finding a buyer for the club for 300m right now. No profit!
It just posted my reply above as a new post so I tried deleting it. It doesn't allow leaving it blank either so I edited it to this and flagged it... :\
ReplyDeleteAre you German?
ReplyDeleteI'm not from there but I very often see credible stories quoted from the Bild on my country's credible newspapers... :\ I guess I was misinformed
Bild may be a tabloid, but even tabloids get things right sometimes :-)
ReplyDeleteI lived in Germany for 16 years, and Bild isn't as bad as people make out.
Which one? Tell me and I'll delete it for you.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind seeing Torres return, but the price would probably be prohibitive. 10-15m, yes; anymore, no.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Would even tweek the price up to £20m, after all its only Monopoly money.
ReplyDeleteI live in Germany.
ReplyDeleteDuring my studies I've work at the local theatre. One of my colleagues there had Bild with him every day. The benefit of that paper is, that four people can read it within a half-hour break. That's how I managed to read that rag on a quite regular basis. And I have to tell you that it is even worse than people make out. Even the guy who's bought it every day didn't take it serious, but he claimed the he wouldn't find the time to read an actual newspaper (like the Süddeutsche Zeitung) during our short break. I might be pushing it a bit too far now, but the experience I've made is that people who take that rag serious will also tell you that Hitler wasn't bad, guys like the current German foreign minister (who is gay) would have been put up against the wall back in those days and 'intelligent' stuff like that. I am not making that up, honestly! Bild is a huge propaganda machine that leads the blind, spreads fear and false information.
ReplyDelete20mn deal
ReplyDelete6 goals in 31 appearances doesn't seem much, but he was injured most of last two seasons. he is a natural goal-scorer, he practices shooting everyday like any other professional footballer, but harder; shows he's got dedication. don't worry, he won't join LFC, HSV won't let him go for mere 8 mil...
