Confirmed LFC line-up vs. Reading: Attacking line-up but one major disappointment...

Brendan Rodgers has named a very attacking team for today's must-win Premier League game at Anfield, but despite Liverpool's striker issues, Samed Yesil doesn't even make the bench.

Pepe Reina misses out through injury, but after the Spaniard's poor form over the last year, this is a great opportunity for Brad Jones to make a claim for the number one spot.

FULL LINE UP:

Jones, Wisdom, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Allen, Gerrard, Sterling, Suarez, Suso, Sahin.

SUBS:

Gulacsi, Shelvey, Henderson, Downing, Assaidi, Carragher, Enrique.

This is a great, attacking line up, and it's good to see Rodgers keeping faith with Suso, Sterling and Wisdom.

I personally would've started Shelvey ahead of Gerrard, just to give the Captain a rest.

It's very disappointing to see that Samed Yesil is not even included in the squad, but I guess that was to be expected.

Probable formation:

------------------- Jones

Wisdom -------- Agger -- Skrtel ----- Johnson

-------------- Allen --- Sahin

----------------- Gerrard

Sterling ------------------------ Suso

----------------- Suarez

Liverpool must win this game, it's that simple.

  1. I think Shelvey deserves to start ahead of Gerrard performance wise but considering there are so many young players in the team it is probably better to play Gerrard for his experience but he needs to show some consistency because he has been one of those players who has let the club down so far this season.

  2. We have played this exact starting team before apart Jones!!

  3. I look forward to watching Liverpool games these days. That's a damn good platform to build on. Long may flair dominate our team lineups.

  4. I agree with Shevley over Gerrard..Gerrard's risky passing has cost us alot of goals this season..most notably vs west brom and arsenal..but hes the captain..i expect it to be 3-1 with suso hopefully grabbing a goal in there...i love the addition of wisdom..much more solid defensively than johnson

  5. Failure to beat Reading today will cause me to start quetsioning if we are making any progress under BR. So far I have been convinced but theres just games a team must absolutely win. And win well might I add. This is 1 such game.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I agree that Gerrard needs to be managed properly these days no doubt. The great thing is we have Shelvey to come on as a perfect replacement if need be. The problem is who would come on to replace Suarez?? Assiadi?

    ReplyDelete
  7. That's a quite simplistic view me thinks. Imagine this. We score three to five legitimate goals which are all chalked of for one reason or another (bad officiating for instance), but Reading score a solitary goal from their only attack resulting in a penalty that isn't one. Game lost, you start questioning progress.

    ReplyDelete
  8. When will the excuses stop? Excuse after excuse Ive had enough of it. I understand yo example is a hypothetical but cahman it has to stop somewhere. Last season it was hitting the woodwork this season its gonna be bad officiating?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Suarez dived again in the first half against Reading. Blatant play-acting to win a free kick. The guy is shameless, and the Anfield crowd was cheering him for it. Pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  10. You're not exactly mr honest either. Your headline to this article at 2pm was confirmed line up, but you had Shelvey in the line-up. I guess it wasn't confirmed but you guessed

    ReplyDelete
  11. Suarez made a great pass for Sterling to score a clinical goal, dont you think that was worth a mention, 99% of LFC fans think it would be.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Scrappy yet Sterling goal ..puzzling substitution ...attack that sometimes lack imagination ...poor finishing again ...must be the international break...what is wrong with our defence this year ??? no sign of Assaidi again ...valuable 3 points gained .I fear going to Everton next game ... not a game for the faint of heart :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. A clean sheet and 3 points. Sterlings first goal. Thats all that matters this weekend. On to the next game.

    ReplyDelete
  14. And he got fouled several times without getting the call, played very well and made an assist but who cares right?

    ReplyDelete
  15. So getting fouled and providing an assist means Suarez is allowed to dive? Such twisted logic, but you're clearky someone who condones cheating so it's hardly surprising.

  18. The assumption I made is implicit in your comment. You are a cheating apologist. Just admit it. You are part of the problem.

  19. While the skippers fit. He will play. Common sense. I dont like it. But, thats the way it is. When were playing well towards the end of KKs first season i was reluctant to see him back. When you take into account him not playing well for two seasons its a practical decision. I appreciate what hes done for the club. But, he should be utilised elsewhere. But, he is the skipper and it takes a brave manager not to play ur main man.

  20. Actually I think you are more of the problem, you are trying to provoke people, go watch cricket!

    ReplyDelete
  21. What is your problem? You really think you are not being a bit defensive about this. Stop your crusade against diving for a second. My point is that you are going to assess Suarez performance tell the whole story not just part of it mate. You need to chill.

  25. It's you who needs to 'chill'. I'm entirwlu consistent on my zero tolerance on cheating policy. You're the one who's getting irate, but that's probably because the truth hurts.
Suarez's assist has absolutely nothing to do with his dive. Nothing. Like so many others, you're indirectly suggesting that people should not criticise Suarez's cheating on account of him putting in a good performance overall.
It's this kind of thinking that is the reasob why football is such a cesspool of cheating.
Even if Suarez scored 10 goals.in one game, it wouldn't make his cheating less wrong. In fact, one act of cheating negates the positives IMO.
As I said before, people with your laissez faire attitude to cheating are part of the problem.

  26. Dude I rarely post on this site so NO you can't assume anything. I am not irate. I never said that one thing justifies another and clearly YOU have a big problem with diving and what you consider good moral standards. That's fine, but a lot of football fans have a different opinion and that is fine as well. So yeah, CHILL.
    Great win by the way!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Where did I say that people can't have a different view? I am perfectly calm, and you trying to suggest I'm not is just typical belittling tactics. Try attacking the argument not the person for a change.
People can think whatever they like, but ao can I, and from your comments, it's clear that you're just like 90% of modern fans: happy to turn a blind eye to cheating if it means your team gets an advantage.

  28. Didn't realize that I've made any excuses in my previous post. I, too, would rather see us thrashing every team 5-0, but that is not how it works in real life. If you can't support us when we're not winning, why don't you pick a team that always wins? As that song, you might have heard of it, goes: ...walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain...
That surely implies that the sun doesn't shine all of the time.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm the one attacking the person???You're the one saying I am irate and generalizing: "you are part of the problem"; " you are a cheating apologist"; etc.etc. Your comments are way more intolerant than mine! I don't like cheating in sports but we might have different views on what we consider cheating. In any event through your comments it's obvious that you are way to defensive about this issue.

  32. For the first time ever I have to say that the fans nearly cost us the game today. It was very strange to hear the manic cheering for Suarez free-kick. It changed the atmosphere from a football contest to agenda against the ref. The worrying aspect of this was that Sterling started to get dragged in this sideshow. I hope this doesn't continue because I don't think its going to help the team or image of the club.

    ReplyDelete
  33. He is world class on his day, but form wise, he hasn't been world class this season and has cost us some goals with his lazy passing. Going on form, Shelvey has put in some better performances than Gerrard has. And I would be careful calling fellow posters names, as that goes against the comment policy and is a surefire way to get your comment banned

    ReplyDelete
  34. And Shankly in his first season couldn't even win promotion. So your point falls moot there.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why are people getting on the bandwagon that Johnson is a defensive liability? He is a very good defender, just so happens that he is even better going forward. But he put in another solid defensive display against Reading

    ReplyDelete
  36. Have you never heard the saying good teams win 1-0? Another saying is it's better to win 1-0 than 5-1, a clean sheet is an important foundation, if you don't concede goals, you are always in a better position to win games.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Be careful or your comment will get deleted, to insult a fan is going against comment policy.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Which one was the dive, the freekick that was given on the edge of the box or the one that wasn't given on the stroke of half time by the touchline? I also noticed an occasion when Sterling also dived, but you choose not to bring that up. Also Pogrebnyak dived at least on one occasion in the match and got freekicks for it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I agree mate, Suarez wasn't the only one in that match who "dived", but is the only one who gets pulled up on it. Pogrebnyak went down way too easily when challenged for a header by Agger, won the freekick, even though replays showed minimal contact and he made the most of the challenge, which is technically diving. Another example is Sterling, who went running after a ball, got ahead of the defender and as the ball was going out and knew he couldn't get it, went down, this was also an example of diving, but one that Mr Diving-Is-A-Blight-On-Our-Game fails to comment on these.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What is wrong with our defense? Are you serious? 2 clean sheets in a row. That is a good thing, not a bad thing.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I cannot believe of all of the negativity on here after winning. Sterling.... superb goal and howz that a scrappy goal according to some people is beyond believe. 3 points, cleansheet and win at home. I thought they had said we had got the monkeys off our back. For godsake get behind the team and appreciate that we have more than half of the team full of newcomers with kids. Just look at our line up and u feel a sense of excitement and that has to be a good thing....... barring a striker off course. Even if BR does leave one day you've got to say he deserves all the credit for playing the kids. The only other manager who's had the balls to do that in my time was roy evans, who had the team packed with kids. WE ARE GOING THROUGH A TRANSITION PERIOD as said on numerous occassions but some people obviously do not understand the meaning!! Sterling and Suso remind me of the barnes/beardsley combination and when was the last time u could say that..... considering their age. YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jamie, up until those posts of yours, you were credited by me for logic and ethos. Sorry mate but today you exposed yourself badly. SC never seemed to suggest or imply anything personal, u did and did that in a bad manner. My comment is not ill-tempered. As the editor, u need to be more patient and not act as immaturely as u did.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Have your say, your entitled to it. I think your wrong though why be so judgmental when better more expansive football is hopefully on the way?

Were you a big kenny fan?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Take it easy on the hype on the kids. Barely into the season, yet they are being hyped as the next big things. They play with enough pressure as it is, without having to be compared to past players. Secondly, Rodgers deserves credit for the manner of the way the young players have played but not for them actually being in the first team squad and playing. As the squad is hardly big, so he has been kinda forced into the situation of playing young players. If he doesn't like Downing, Hendo, etc, who is he going to play? young players, as there is no other experience alternative, there is no Maxi, no Kuyt, no Bellers (who Rodgers wanted to keep but couldn't as Bellers wanted to go back to family), etc. On top of that, he tried to go for Dempsey, that would have meant less playing time for the likes of Suso in PL. Hardly something gutsy to throw in the young players, considering the sorry state of our squad. We may have a good first XI but beyond that, it is young players and average-at-best squad players who he barely has any faith in. Take your pick, average players or young talented but raw. And come on, aside from EL, he has hardly packed the team full of youngsters. He had three out there yesterday. Hardly Evans-esque. The moment he drops Gerrard (and to a lesser extent, Reina (not for injury/fitness reasons), is the moment he shows he has 'balls'.

    ReplyDelete
  45. But you are not 100% honest either. 1 hour before kick off you posted the confirmed line up, which turned out to be wrong. So it wasn't confirmed, kinda makes me think you want people to believe you have the scoop on LFC when in fact you just guess.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You've got better eyesight than me, then, if you think it was a dive. Or are you one of these bores who can't get off their arse and go the game, so are blessed with online replays?

It was the ref who got the standing ovation, for actually giving a free-kick. Trouble is, just before half-time Suarez got hacked again, so the ref (was it the bloke off the Crystal Maze) gave sweet FA to teach the crowd a lesson......
    :(

    ReplyDelete
  47. Have you noticed they are actually clearing the ball now, instead of playing triangles between the centre-backs and keeper? Hey presto : a clean sheet.
Bet Rodgers takes the credit, for the innovation that defenders should defend .....

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think the cheering was ironic, and I found it quite amusing (and joined in).
But yes, it did nearly cost us the game, because it obviously wound the ref up.

"We'll all be having a party............."

    ReplyDelete
  49. With respect, that's a typical superfan response. Let's all bow down at your feet for going to the game! You're clearly a better fan that the rest of us.

Let's just ignore the fact that it's ridiculously difficult to get tickets most of the time, or that many people live so far away that it's cost prohibitive to travel to Liverpool; or they have family commitments; or they live abroad;(insert legitimate reason here)

You make it sound like it's just a matter of turning up at the ground, waltzing through the turnstile and into the ground. That is not not the reality, so please don't use such a lame tactic to deflect attention away from the fact that Suarez dived again.

The replay (from several different angles) is clear: there was no contact; Suarez dived, and the enabling crowd lauded him for it. Pretty pathetic, but it perfectly illustrates why cheating is so prevalent in the game: fans accept it, condone, and actively encourage it.

    Bravo!

    ReplyDelete
  50. So judging by that answer you don't go the game Kanwar..... you watch it on the Internet or sky or some other media....where are you again?......I was at the match and Suarez did not dive.....the WHOLE ground was on its feet applauding the fact the referee gave a free kick to Suarez, because he didn't give some blatant free kicks for no other reason than it was Suarez......I think I'll side with the 45000 other match going reds....all I would add, probably more knowledgable than you about how we are playing, rather than some dullard foreign wannabe ITK who's sole purpose is to slag the team, and anyone else off, that doesnt agree with his point of view

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Funny how both my comments that shows how you cheat your readership into believing you have insider LFC knowledge gets deleted, why is that? Come on Jaimie time to come down from the high horse?

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think you are the one that needs to take it easy, this is lfc and as soon as you walk through those gates and wear that red jersey u will always be compared to past greats, thats just the way it is and LFC are no exception. If you cannot deal with that, then maybe u should a follow a lesser high profile football team as I'm a wee bit surprised by ur comments, but then again if you're part of the dalglish/benitez brigade why should i be surprised at all.
If u read carefully and get ur FACTS right, i said half a team of full of newcomers with kids, which implies a mixture of both. Obivously from your tone you are just waiting to get the knife out on BR and that is just typical of some people. The man had balls to take the job in the first place and if u have bothered to watch the lfc programme on friday and have played football a decent level, you will appreicate what he is trying to acheive at the club. He is no fool, he knew that as soon as he took the job that instantly he would be compared and to an extent hated by some so-called fans. Now thats a person who can handle pressure. He's got rid of some experienced players which clearly were not in his plans or true lfc standard for instance spearing, adams & carroll. He is gradually phasing out shite such as downing so not sure how that is a situation forced onto BR. He's made a decision to exclude certain players from his plans and wants to continue his philosophy of playing creative attacking football based around young talent. Now thats a situation created by him and not forced which takes balls. Another example, instantly dropped carragher from the starting 11 in all premier league games, now i bet u gonna say that was also forced onto him. But then why, only a couple of months back he was good enough to play for dalglish who actually did not have the balls to drop him.

Its like saying oh he scored the goal but it came off nose....

    ReplyDelete
  58. My point is Shanks didn't turn into the great manager overnight, it took time and patience. A manager you forget to mention, or maybe too ignorant to mention is Joe Fagan. Back to Rodgers, he is only 39, he is going to be around in the game for a long time and is going to be a very successful manager, mark my words.

    ReplyDelete
  59. They are still playing it out using triangles, but not at all costs, they have found a healthy balance.
