'He's crazy about football!' - LFC sign Hatayspor starlet on one-year deal...

A 16-year old footballer is to be handed the opportunity of a lifetime with Liverpool FC after winning a football-based reality TV show in Turkey.

Turkish youngster Emin Altunay played against a team of LFC youth players during the 'Futbol Prensi' (Football Prince) show, and the Reds were impressed enough to offer him a one year contract with the LFC Academy, with an option to make it permanent if he does well.

Thousands of young players from fifteen regions of Turkey participated in the competition for a place in the final, and Altunay - who plays for the Hatayspor youth team - can't wait to get started:

"I've been playing football since I was four years old. I've always wanted to play football, I want to thank everyone who has given me this opportunity, I won't let them down."

Altunay's father, Semir, enthused:

"My son has always been crazy about football, when he was a young boy he would make footballs from newspaper's and play with them.

"I'm confident Emin will do well at Liverpool, I believe in him. He will get a proper footballing education and hopefully make his stay at the club permanent".

How cool is that? For anyone who loves football, it's basically the stuff dreams are made of. What an amazing opportunity, and if Altunay is good enough, he's in the perfect place to start his football education.

I'm jealous!

  3. Right way to go - buy them young on the cheap and even if only 20 to 40 % of them succeed we've done well . YNWA

  4. He won a TV competition, the prize being a season at Lfc, with an option to a more permanent deal if he is good enough. Love to see someone like that make it, thats 3 or 4 Turks now at Lfc.
Which reminds me, only 15 weeks to Christmas.

  6. The future looks for liverpool FC. We have invested in a lot of starlets who will come of age in the future and really do great things for the club, just wish we could invest in players who could come in and do great things for the club today.

  7. Brilliant,
Seesm as though that the club is clearly showing a positive approach towards the Turkish players, IMO they are very talented and more importantly can be tempted at a BARGAIN price.

  8. heard a grest rumour today, FSG are looking to sell Red sox for 1.3 billion dollars in the light of waht happended with the LA dogers. people believe this will then allow FSG to grow liverpool further as there is scope with liverpool world wide. how true, who knows!!!

  9. Not gonna happen. It'd be hard to justify cutting and running from the Red Sox due to a bad patch to focus on Liverpool, which has been an almighty pain in the arse for FSG.

I get the impression that the Red Sox are their bread and butter and we're the cream.

  10. Sounds like a great story. My guess is he'll offer nothing but at least he'll get to experience a new culture and has the chance to enjoy our facilities etc.

It'd be a great story if he does well. I can already see Hollywood catching a random momentarily popular actor of the day, who is in no way Turkish but is vaguely 'exotic' (think Omar Sharif as Che Guevara), the honour of playing him.

  12. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news in this joyous occasion but according to BOSTON.COM in a article titled "John Henry refutes report that Red Sox are for sale." Mr Henry does just that refutes that the Boston Red Sox are for sale. The story claiming that the Red Sox is for sale was released by Fox Business News.

Mr Henry was quoted to have said "A sale of any kind is so far from our thinking it hasn’t even come up apart from technical planning issues involving death or disability. This report is completely without foundation.”

Mr Henry does not have a favorite amongst his babies. He will continue to support both the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC equally. He is just as committed to both.

  14. I think this is highly likely IMO. Henry has a background in speculative investments, buying into underperforming brands, delivering success and selling them on at a huge profit. He has done the hard work with the Red Sox, delivered the success and now right sized the financials (getting rid of half the playing staff). If he can sell the franchise for $1.6bn, this would represent a $900m return on investment - which is pretty good in anyone's books.
