'LFC want him!' - AS claims 29-goal star is top January transfer target...

The summer transfer window only closed six days ago but Liverpool fans are already counting the days until the January transfer window opens! The club's top priority will - hopefully - be a striker or two, and according to reports in Spain, Liverpool have already identified their top January transfer target.

According Spanish Newspaper AS, Liverpool first choice is Athletic Bilbao's Fernando Llorente, a player who has been constantly linked with a move to Anfield over the last two years. The report states:

"Despite the arrival of Brendan Rodgers, the defeat at home to Arsenal has prompted the club to think about solutions to the ongoing struggle to score goals. Rodger's coaching staff has clear ideas, and in January, the club will try once again to sign Llorente.

Llorente recently revealed that that representatives from Anfield 'came to Bilbao' negotiate a possible transfer.

Llorente's current deal has a €36million (£29million) buy-out clause, and speaking to reporters last month, Bilbao President Josu Urrutia was asked if the Spaniard was for sale, and if Bilbao would accept a transfer fee that was lower than the buyout fee. He said:

"He [Llorente] is a key player and we would not accept less [than €36m] because the supporters would not accept this"

Llorente - who grabbed 33 goals and assists for Bilbao last season - is definitely open to a move to the Premier League this summer, and he reiterated this in a recent interview:

"I might end up playing in England. I am currently in Bilbao, but who knows what happens. Xabi Alonso and Fernando Torres has told me about the great respect that the fans have for the players there"."

£29m seems like a prohibitive fee for Liverpool, but I doubt Bilbao would get that much for Llorente if he was to leave, especially since he's in the last year of his contract. As a comparison, take Montpelier's Olivier Giroud, who has a similar goalscoring record. The French club's owner, Louis Nicollin, slapped a €50m price tag on the prolific striker a few months ago, but he ended up joining Arsenal for a vastly reduced fee of £12m.

It's probably more likely that Llorente will sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January, as opposed to actually making a move. Whether that ends up being Liverpool remains to be seen, but if the club's poor results continue until the the new year, I sincerely doubt the Spaniard will choose Anfield.

  2. watched him a few times and am not overly impressed ...okay but not 30 million hes a 12-17million player at the very top

  3. Well it's all speculation atm, but would Llorente fit into Rodgers playing style? He's not overly pacy but does have a lethal finish on him

  4. Samed Yesil scored 2 against England tonight:

    1) 24 goals in 27 games for Germany
    2) 23 goals in 20 games last season at Leverkusen
    3) 57 goals in 71 games total for Levekusen

    Not too bad eh????

  5. i wont ever be getting my hopes up again with these clowns in charge. god knows how rodgers feels. he could well fancy joining liverpool ie because of the great fans, but it just wont happen, because it may bankrupt liverpool et etc.
dont expect anything in the near future thats what there pretty much saying. maybe 6 years+ if we can keep all these talented youngsters happy.

Dempsey - £6mill, 29 years old, deemed to old, emphatic no to any 29 year olds with no resale value.

  19. What are you on about son...FSG out? Seriously? So fickle you forget they saved us from oblivion? Sold Torres for 50m and put everything back in the club? Have been forthright and honest in pretty much everything they've done? Haven't taken a penny out of the club? Who do you want to own Liverpool? Some filthy rich Arab/Russian who treats the club as his personal little hobby? Or do you prefer the Glazers who suck money out of United and have laden the club with serious debt? Get a grip son, stop being so fickle, and have some bloody patience. Mistakes were made obviously, BUT we have a good young manager, great young players, do not have any debt (other than normal operational debt), and we're building a footballing/passing philosophy throughout the club. Have some faith son. YNWA

  23. Plank is right about the age. What I find quite, well, amusing is that his full name is Fernando Llorente Torres. At least Suarez couldn't claim that he was promised to play alongside Fernando Torres and we've broken the promise (given we'd sign this Fernando Torres).

  26. The point of this post is obvious: It's LFC related news, which I am passing on. I did not say we will sign Llorente.

This idea that LFC are never going to sign anyone over the age of 23 under FSG is becoming tiresome. Their transfer history disproves that theory, plus, it's about getting *value* for money, and if Llorente is deemed to have value, then the club will consider buying him.

I can see the argument for Dempsey not being the best value. As much as I like him as a player, he's only had one outstanding season, plus, he only had a year left on his contract.

Additionally, a 29m buyout clause does not mean that Llorente cannot go for a cheaper price; his contract expires next summer, which gives clubs the upper hand in negotiations.

His actual fee when he leaves will (IMO) be nowehere near 29m; it will probably be between 15-20ml, which is definitely within LFC's price range for the *right* player.

    ReplyDelete
  27. You're looking at things the wrong way. FSG vetoed the Dempsey deal because he was not considered value for money; it had nothing to do with LFC not being able to 'afford' him. You can keep spouting that if it makes you feel better, but it's not true. If Dempsey was seen as good value, the deal would've gone through, but FSG saw him as a 'short term fix', something they alluded to in their open letter to fans.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Is it true that Leverkusen has a 15 million buy back clause?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes JK I understand, but I am using FSG's own logic on Dempseygate, no resale value,
Llorente 28 early Feb, 4/5 year contract, 32 33 after contract, no resale value, compared to the amout of the transfer fee. So for that reason, I say its a non runner.

    ReplyDelete
  30. i agree with everything your saying apart from agreeing about fsg. babbel and mierles sold aswell, thats about 70, kenny tried a shrewd move which partly cost him his job. they have put little into the club, and every season were falling into ablivion, sorry but that concerns me.
there mistakes have cost us this season already, business men? more like amatures in this country.
    stadium? its not happening.
im sorry i really hope im proved wrong, but in my life time i hope liverpool get the respect they used to, and of course some success.
great speech who ever wrote that for henry, almost believable.

    ReplyDelete
  31. the time is now though. dempsey the same age as rvp, okay not quite the player, but would of been a big assit to the team. great in the air, considering we have mugged carroll away. 5 million to help us back into the champs league?? come on !! ;)

  32. kind of contredicts itself dont it. proven in the prem as well, just makes to much sense. laughung stock, no wonder

    ReplyDelete
  33. Slow lanky bean pole who is over valued at 30million+ Why would we go for a player like this???
Oh wait we have one already except he is 5 years younger, so glad it is paper talk as you couldn't make this crap up!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Fools if u think FSG wont take funds from club the boston red.S will gain from LFC
ask J.W henry world seiries or PL i know what he would like as he is a yank

    ReplyDelete
  35. It's not just the transfer fee or resale value on Dempsey ... we need to do the math. At 29 would the player accept anything less than a 3 year contract? And wouldn't he want decent wages? According to what is thought to be his deal with Spurs that's an additional 14 million pounds (!!!) for a player who simply may not be that good when he's 31 or 32. Can we really say that if Dempsey came here he would have been a solid contributor who genuinely deserved his salary for a full 3-4 years? Dempsey himself said that last season was incredibly hard on him, a sure indicator that perhaps in another season or two he just won't be able to put in the same kind of performances. And then what are you left with but another overpaid player in his 30s who isn't quite good enough for the club to compete at the top level? It's a harsh reality for footballers but I would guess that the price we put on Dempsey was a fair one and Spurs have ultimately paid over the odds. Dempsey will run them a total bill of 20 million pounds over the life of his contract. Is he really worth that much?

  36. yup...v got some crazy young talents here. (Sterling, Suso, Morgan, Samed....)Now is the time to use them Rodgers!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, against the likes of Morgan and sterling; really like those kids, but if we're giving them a chance, certainly Yesil should get some minutes too!

    ReplyDelete
  38. lowey remember they bailed the club from not going bust lets not forget that and last of all no Arab billionaires or Russian barons were looking to buy the club because believe me they would had bought it at least the club is stable now if i wish we had the money like PSG,CHELSEA,MAN CITY yes i would have loved but no buyers of that level wanted to buy the club so it is what it is

    ReplyDelete
  39. All this negative talk about one transfer mistake they made AND admitted to making! There is so much bad publicity about sections of LFC supporters making riciculous comments and demands of FSG that if we indeed really wanted to boot out FSG, nobody would buy LFC. And why would anybody? To spend hundreds of millions of pounds on a football club where every single move in the transfer market, in the back room, in the press room, are scrutinized by groups like the spirit of Shankly and are publicly ridiculed, tarnishing your reputation forever. I expect to see much less of mr Henry at anfield this year because I'm sure he fears for his safety from some of the hooligans who support this club, despite having the same interests in mind and trying to do the right thing for the team!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would love Doumbia Jamie, he has a 26m EURO release clause, and CSKA might do business for less. Isnt he a more viable option than Llorente.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So, we get FSG out. Then have new owners and new owners probably might want a new manager. New manager might want to bring in his own players with a new playing style. Then we the FANS need to wait longer for LFC to fight for Champ League spot and mind you, need to wait some more for EPL title. That too assuming we do well. If not, then change owners again and the whole cycle starts again. And, in the meantime, MU and Man City will continue to rake up EPL titles and together with Arsenal and Chelsea continue to increase their fan base world wide because new fans like winning teams.

I thought FSG did reasonably well so far with LFC except for some hiccups here and there due to their ignorance of English football and also of late with the Dempsey transfer. But there is no need for new owners. For the meantime, we should continue to support them, Brendan and LFC. I believe we are on a better path now and if Brendan starts improving the results from week to week and month to month, then I am sure FSG would be more willing to invest in new players again.

Also, its time to use the youngsters more like Morgan, Sterling, Suso and Yesil.

  45. no disrespect lowey but a question for u, u want to win this league or the next 18 leagues.

  46. Yeah we get, but u have to understand it will take time and our pressing play is the best in the league.

  47. There are 4 big players who are in last year of their contract and not signing new contract.

    1. Huntelaar
    2. Llorente
    3. Walcott
    4. Sturrige

Let's see who is signed by Liverpool out of them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If FSG would spend £6 million on a 29 year old, why would they spend £30 million on a 27 year old? I would like him to sign, but dont see it happening

    ReplyDelete
  49. Except Huntelaar i would have any of them.

And really is llorente in the last year of his contravt? Link please!!!
And if true we shud forget my hero Doumbia and try to sign llorente for 15m MAX

    ReplyDelete
  50. I dont mind FSG blocking the move, i told jamie that he is too slow for BR's system. But at the same time the rumours that FSG are selling Boston's best players creeps the hell out of me. And im more worried about them not having a single penny in their pocket rather than worry about dempsey.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree with savs, you should be patient. Let me ask u a question??? if it was your money , and you knew if you spent it you would be in really bad debt, would you??? i guess not... come back to real world man, football is a BUSINESS not a SPORT anymore... owners want to generate revenue and profit... FSG has done really well. Kenny and his old fashion way of thinking made really bad buys.. Come one caroll for 33 million, not even ronaldo cost that much when he came to united... downing, adams, henderson all mediocre players. FSG spent nearly 100 million on players not whatever you are saying, 70 or 50 etc... Rodger is doing a good job, it will take time to get this type of football instilled in the players... Come rodgers, forget about buyiong players start using tghe youth.. i believe we will do better with them!!! do a manu 1992!!!! YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  52. did anyone see him vs man u last season? he can score 20 per season no problem...

    ReplyDelete
  53. As I said before, LFC was almost closing on for Fernendo Llorente....We will get him for 15-20mn as he is on his last year of contract.

    ReplyDelete
  54. just so you know bilbao is known as the other barca in spain, so i dont see how he can be too slow for brendan... and he is at least 5 times better than dempsey, did you ever watch bilbao match?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hes just an andy carroll in his best years, would have fit perfectly in KK's plans but not in rodgers. If we have such a load of money left, it would be better if we sign Negredo or Soldado, or if we need a fast striker Remy. In the Meantime let Borini play on the top and suarez on the wing, and lets give the youngstars a chance. As i saw yesterday yesil looks better than adam morgan, so maybe we can try out to give him as many 1st team experience as we can. He really has an eye for a goal, and hes one your older than Raheem, so it could be right his time. We also have to give suso a chance to train with the bigs, ive never heard of him after our training time in the US, but i know he can shine and this shortpassing tiki taka would fit him perfectly!
By the way that about Ngoo!? The BlackPeterCrouch is stunning me everytime i can see his performances :D !!

At all i think Llorente wouldnt be worth the price for us ( maybe for other teams like tottenham or chelsea, but his not a striker rodgers is looking for, otherwise he wouldnt have given BigAndyC. away!

    Once Again Thanks Jamie
And sorry for my baaad grammar

    YNWA from Austria!

  56. have you listened to anything fsg said on the stadium? if someone else can fund the majority your in if not your screwed. city got their's for free, the scum bought up all the land in the 40's and could build gradually throegh the 90's. arsenal on the other hand funded it basically mainly themselves and are a selling club because of it if they slip out of the top 4 their never getting back in. so would you rather a small stadium one which xabi alonso told sahin was the best in the world or would you like a big stadium and no money for players for 5 year's. fsg have never said funds are not there just that they wont throw it around like in their 1st year.

  58. Biggest thing we need to do is tie young stirling and suso down to longer contracts. If i understand correctly and belive the rumours, they are both in their last years of current contract and Man Utd, arsenal, mancity, chelsea and tottenham are all interested in young stirling. If we have a poor season and dont get into champions league, the call of CL football combined with big wages and a move back down south maybe a big pull.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Based on your valuation, Andy "The Donkey" Carroll should have cost Liverpool £3.5. Yup, that's about right.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yesils english is bad, he is still learning, he would find it difficult to communicate with the team. Maybe that's why he hasnt bin used...yet

    ReplyDelete
  61. you mean against manu yeah, hell yeah but i liked muniain more. but he is better than no one i guess. im just afraid that he does end up a flop like carroll. thats why i would take doumbia who is cheaper over llorente

    ReplyDelete
  62. What kind of drivel are you spouting? Morgan will get his chance & as for KD returning? cast your mind back to last season.. the very poor handling of the Suarez affair & his pathetic press interviews. Oh & I forgot to mention a few clowns he brought to the team. NO THANKS. KD only compounded our problems. Obviously your memory doesn't allow you to recollect all that.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Why cant Liverpool sign a pre contract and get him for free with better wages. Just Asking?

    ReplyDelete
  64. i mean vs manu, and vs barca, and valencia and real, and trough europa league... system here suits him perfectly becouse we play tika taka but every now and then we curl in a cross... and he is great for both. muniain=suarez. and i like ours better.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Liverpool can no longer afford these transfer fees, you have to get real and look at more realistic targets.

    ReplyDelete
  66. He is technically a lot better than Carroll. But so then is Crouch too.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I totally agree been watching this guys goals he finishes totally instictively. Robbie Fowler like i think we should throw him in give him a chance sterling has shown ust what the young lads can do.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Dempsey would have been same like charlie adam.andy caroll .downing etc all big fish in small pond's but can't make the grade at Liverpool .No sense crying over spilt milk lets hope we survive until Jan and add some proper high profile signings that actually makes Liverpool a small pond for them

    ReplyDelete
  69. im not knocking rodgers at all mate, there definatly is excitment with the way he wants things, but hes being held back.
fsg total outlay in 2 years is what? id guess no more than 40 mill maybe?
we have shifted a fair few players.
just pure frustration. its like another year slipping away, because of fsg. time will tell

    ReplyDelete
  70. Well FSG's gross spend on transfers for their first 2 years is £151.1M, from which £80.8M came from players sale. So the net spend isn't £40M but rather £70.3M for 2 years. So the problem is that we should have built a competitive team with such money and we shouldn't find ourselves trying to get rid of overpaid rotting deadwoods.

    ReplyDelete
  71. But then again we have Nuri Sahin there to help, and I think Assaidi also speak German?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  72. if not why not? he's the only striker besides Borini that they bought... Borini is not handling.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I see where you're going... but I tend to agree with Lowey... Dempsey probably would have added a bit of extra punch that we need right now. Champions League will be amazing for Liverpool now, financially speaking along with the other benefits, because debts have been paid and wages reduced Theoretically it's all profit from this point onward, so what great damage would have a senior players wages and a 7mill transfer fee done to the finances? We can never be sure unless we study Liverpool's financial records, buuut... I believe we stood more to gain from the situation actually puttinng the c*ck on the block and signing Dempsey.

Besides, Imagine all the funds generated from Americans (being the patriotic bunch they are) buying Dempsey Liverpool tops!??!?!?! The move made PERFECT financial sense and there was MORE value for money even if he was a flop on the pitch.

Anyway, lets not dwell on the past, this is the situation now. Your Move Brendan Rogers...
