'I want to play up front!' - £15m winger responds to LFC transfer rumours...

Liverpool target Theo Walcott has broken his silence over the ongoing speculation linking him with a move away from Arsenal.

Liverpool have been linked with Walcott several times over the last six months, and when discussing transfer targets in a press conference prior to the end of the summer transfer window, Brendan Rodgers described Walcott as a 'very good player'.

last week, Arsene Wenger publicly threatened to run down the 23-year old's contract if he refused to sign a new deal, prompting Walcott to address the rumours surrounding his future.

In an interview last night, Walcott slammed the 'false speculation' swirling around him, and emphatically reiterated his wish to stay at Arsenal. He said:

"It has been a frustrating start for me, because of false speculation. For me, it has never been about money. It has always been a football decision, and I want to stay [at Arsenal].

"I had opportunities in the summer to go but if I wanted to go, I would have gone, if it was about money. It has never been that. The main factors for me now are I want to start playing up front. That is all it is, really".

Walcott's existing contract runs out next year, and Rodgers has already contacted Arsenal about the possibility of a deal, but is yet to hear anything back from the the London club, who are allegedly 'willing to enter negotiations with both Liverpool and City'.

Based on Walcott's comments though, it looks like he'll end up staying with the Gunners. He wants to play up front, and I doubt that's the role Brendan Rodgers had/has in mind for him.

  1. We dont need a player who selects himself in a certain position, if the players pick themselves and where they are gonna play, why would we need a manager.?

  2. Why not just interchange play and actually score from the center forward channel during games, no need to insist on playing up front. Kos is a defender he plays up front briefly and scores!! OK I get it.. He wants to be ordained as Center forward.. Its possible After all Arsavin was once center forward, sounds hideous when you think about it now but AW had no choice at that time.
I wish Theo the best he does not seem happy now and his game has suffered as a result. My concern is that AW has a better record of reviving long term injured players RVP Rosisky Diaby Ramsey Eduardo than resolving Players' philosophical issues/doubts about club's ambition ($£) sulking, home sickness or DNA issues or disruptive behaviour etc .. Anelka, Reyes, Song, RVP, Flamini, Hleb, Cesc. See what I mean???

  3. It worked for Thierry Henry. He was a left winger at juve- an average one at that. Look how wenger spotted that opportunity. One of the best strikers to grace European football. However, it should be a manager's decision not the player's?

  6. We need Walcott like we need a hole in the skull! We need a goal scorer in the middle and in the middle when each cross comes in ! Haven't we done with the cheap second-rate "might-doers" ?? A waste of money and money is tight..

  7. walcott cant play striker as he is too lightweight, cannot see him linking up with the support striker either, also from wide he can skip past fullbacks, big centre backs would rough him up

  8. And Ray Kennedy did the opposite: Ok centre-forward converted to THE most stylish of midfielders......

  9. I think he would fit in nicely up front, as part of a three man attack. BR needs more options to choose from, so we can alternate/rotate the attack, making us less predictable.

  10. Thierry Henry was being played out of position at Juve as hewas signed as a forward, its not quite the same.
