'It was difficult' - Rodgers reveals the real reason for LFC's transfer fail...

It's fair to say that Liverpool's performance in the summer transfer window was underwhelming to say the least. As well as being gazumped by Spurs on two separate occasions, fans expected at least one new prolific striker to arrive at the club, but for various reasons, that didn't happen. Many fans have blamed FSG for not spending enough money, but Rodgers has offered a different reason for the the club's transfer window woes.

In an interview on Friday, Rodgers revealed:

"The difference with us was there'd been a lot of change in the last 6 months; the recruitment team had all been broken up, so we went through the transfer window without a scouting network, which obviously makes it very difficult".

I know that the club was in the process of recruiting a couple of new chief scouts during the summer, but to have no scouting network in place whatsoever? That sounds a little hard to believe, unless the entire scouting team was sacked along with Kenny Dalglish...?

Liverpool appointed two new scouting heavy-hitters recently, and Rodgers is certain that things will be different in future transfer windows. He said:

"We’ve got Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter in from Manchester City, who have been outstanding for them and will be looking at targets. Already in the first couple of days they’ve made a huge impact".

Let's hope they're looking at STRIKERS who can actually score goals regularly.

  1. what really worries me is we where going to let sterling and shelvey go on loan....tom ince looks as good borini minus the eleven million so it begs the question whats happening

  2. absolute nonesense considering our manager knew his target,

actually everyone one knew them even the tabloids,

    what utter garbage,.

  3. Rodgers and fsg down priced there own players by telling everyone that they didnt want them ....absolutely crazy....its a bit like selling a car in the local rag....Car For sale ...poor runner ...rustbucket ...will fail mot....will swap for new jag....you just wouldnt

  4. The players/the team must start performing in a stable manner in the same way they did in the last 30 minutes against Sunderland. The owners, the manager, and the players must also realize that the margins have been squeezed and we cannot afford throwing away so easily any more points. They must deposit their souls on the pitch and start winning as we can compete for the 1st 4 positions. This team has the players to do that. It is the manager’s responsibility to motivate and inspire his players to do that. It is ridiculous for the manager to just have 2 peripheral attackers in his disposal and no other attacking options on the bench as to make changes and push the team to win. The owners must provide sufficient funds to the manager as he can bring in capable reinforcements in January. The owners have deprived this team the ability to compete for the title by not providing those funds in the summer as the manager could bring in a quality winger and attacker as well as they left Brendan Rodgers to walk in a field full of thorns until December. They do not have any excuse for that. When you decide to buy a club of the status of LFC you know from before what it takes to be the owner of such prestigious club. I just hope they can realize it now!

  5. The problem is not so much our squad. The biggest problem is basically who to create a team of them

  6. I thought BR is his own man at first. The way he handled players was astonishing considering he haven't managed them much. He never gave Carroll chance to prove himself. I thought he wanted to stamp his authority on the club. But now I think it was total nonsense, immature behavior on his side. He does look like a boss when it comes to players but he is a total YES MAN when it comes to management. KD while on other hand was completely opposite. I don't think this gonna work as our club's management is not good enough to understand football. Yankies never do. I think at some point of time in future BR will lose patience and will start blaming management. You see the pattern right? First it was "we need to sell to buy", "we will not pay extraordinary fees", now "no scouts". After 6 months or so, no funds available and just like Rafa he will start attacking management. I see this happening very soon. My opinion though. Sorry for my grammar.

  7. I am in love Brendan and I'm behind him more than ever,
However, I find it extremely hard to digest that targeting a couple of strikers in the ENTIRE summer window without scouting network is impossible,
I mean come ON, I someone has ever heard of football easily notice how good is say, FALCAO, CAVANI, DIMAIO, HUNTELAAR and the list goes on.
Give me 10 $ And I will send the list of potential targets right now.

  8. I don't understand how come supporters still believe we can finish top 4? Is it something I am missing every time I see us play? What makes everyone think top 4 is a possibility while I think Euro itself is a challenge?

    ReplyDelete
  9. This is not good. Apart from a new manager and a new system etc etc etc, the team is playing very poorly. Pass, back-pass, pass , back-pass. Then give it to Suarez who never passes!

  10. well i hope and pray BR get liverpool going as i will find it hard to defend him against straight talking fans who want results. Ihave faith in BR but i cant defend bad results as that is exactly what your paid for to achieve. you can talk and play the greatest football ever seen but if you dont win you will be nothing. whne all is said and done, you look at the likes of paisley and not look at the way he played football you look at the pictures of him at liverpool and if you type in bob paisley into google and press images, all you will find is bob with trophies. that is the difference!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Im taking bets..... Brendan wont be at liverpool by Christmas and Rafa Benitez will replace him!!!

Liverpool are playing really crap, and did not deserve anything from the game at all!

you cant finish top 4 on a shoe string budget and trying to teach old dogs new tricks!!!

Bring Back Kenny for his third reign, last season we never were this bad and it was 'work in progress' now we have 2 points in 4 games Brendan if your reading this go back to swansea, play your ticki taka and take Joe Allen with you!!

I for one wish you all the best at your new club after your failure at Anfield!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Don't really want to defend our owners, but they have probably realized that there is no quick fix, no quick way to the top and therefore obviously don't expect instant success, very much unlike some of our fans.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Borini is getting slated by sections of our fans after a hand-full of games. Carroll has been here one and a half seasons and did eff all. Do you really think he needs more chances to prove himself? BTW, I don't see Brendon reacting "just like Rafa".

    ReplyDelete
  14. Who of those strikers you've named there would
    a) have come to a club not playing in the Champions League
    b) have been affordable for us?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have been saying for a long time the yanks hate to spend money,so after
the signing of downing carroll and henderson they closed the purse. If you look
and Villa arsenal and utd all run by yanks that take more funds out of the club then
they put into them.I;am 42 and fear i will never again see my LFC win the league evev if i live untill i am 80 as long as we are in the hands of yanks.

  16. Did you ever play football yourself? I mean, not hoof and hope football. It's actually a good thing to keep possession until an opening can be created.
You're right about Suarez though. Until he scored today I thought he had a stinker of a game. Constantly failing to find a team-mate with his forward passes. Shouldn't be that hard for him to complete a five yard pass. At times he's too selfish and lacks the eye for a better placed team-mates.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, then you probably should try to watch some of yesteryears games, too.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What are you willing to stake? I'd gladly bet against someone who thinks that we've played "really crap" today and didn't deserve anything.

Who's talking about fourth this season, anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Am not a fan of the disaster that Rafa was during last season of his tenure - boring boring stuff. At least Kenny had us playing further up thepitch and whilst League standings let us down, the team ( not squad) included 5/6 who were just not up to Premiership level. Dont diagree with Rogers intentions or desire to play attractive football but he may not get the time. If LFC in bottom 4 in Nov, which looks a possibility, will the owners perservere? Will they allow us to be a basket case before it's irretrievable?
Dont wish to be too harsh but facts are the Johnson aint a good defender (shocking attempt at tackle for Sunderland goal today), central defenders at sixes & sevens all last year and no different this year and sad to say Stevie G way off form. Top if off with no goal-scoring striker and you have a dodgy mix. Shelvey doesnt do it for me, nor Downing and whilst the kid Sterling looks good, he was too easily muscled off the ball. Long season ahead!

    ReplyDelete
  20. i watched them at the time in the yestaeryears and the foot ball was good as paisley said ""Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball."

  21. BR is giving Borini chance after chance every game. Carroll wasn't good at first but he was good at the end of last season and my point is what HARM was to try him out and give him few chances under new manager??? Lucas, Skrtel, et al were not good at first too but they have improved. He was narrow minded and he has cut short our squad under pressure. I would have loved to see Carroll instead of Borini starting every match.

    ReplyDelete
  22. So that's put straight, you don't expect Rodgers to win loads of trophies in his first season, let alone in his first four league games, do you? No, I don't want to argue with you, as we seem to be on the same side, but those allegedly straight talking fans seem to expect instant success. Maybe they'd be better of supporting Man City.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Funnily enough,
I don't remember neither NAPOLI nor ATLETCO MADRID playing in the CL this year, perhaps you could help me? What about DAMAIO?
CL qualification undoubtedly plays a big part but it's not everything.
Just remember Suarez leaving a CL side to join a non-Europe side.

    ReplyDelete
  24. On your second question :
Think CARROLL is a name to remember

    ReplyDelete
  25. BR talks a very good game but there's no end product, is there. We've been behind in 3 games out of 4 so far and his tactical in game management has been lacking. His awareness has been found out and we've only salvaged a solitary point. Mid table manager and mentality leads mid table mediocrity.

Thank you Titus Bramble for the assist today...

    ReplyDelete
  26. While I have nothing against Carroll, I think he still would fall over the ball way to often, just as last season. Well, at least we'd have something to laugh about that way.
Problem with Carroll is that some of his team-mates would 'instinctively' start hoofing the ball towards him all of the time, which more often than not would result in loss of possession.

    ReplyDelete
  27. yesit si good to keep possesion but if it leads to nothing, what is the pint, wwe saw it today, its not about keeping posessionm its about how good you are with the ball attacking!! at the end of the day whats the oint of having 70% posession if the oposition in thier 30% use that time to score 3 goals?? and you just use your posession to pass it around the midfield dominating but achieving nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Last time I saw him coming off the bench, he was pressing and retaining more possession than anyone else trying to prove the new stubborn manager.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Did play but not to that standard. I dont wish to be too critical of every miniscule aspect of play but am frsutrated that we didnt play with flair or vigour. No urgency and possesion came from Sunderland choosing to sit back on lead. What did we create - really being honest, did we open them up? Not sufficient to compete with top six teams. I think we still have number of below average premiership players and the other ones below form. You are spot-on regarding Suarez who would perform best with a proven goalscorer alongside but dont expect him to deliver 20 + goals.

    ReplyDelete
  30. So those players went to their respective clubs last summer. Who is Dimaio/Damaio anyway? I've never heard of him.

Well then, as you seem to be convinced that those players would have joined us despite being well behind the Champions League spots, how do you think we would have financed those players, or one of them? None of them would have come cheaply, eh.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Already answered that in the mighty name of CARROLL, the flop of the century!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'll still go to Anfield and YNWA. Faith hasn't wavered over 47 years supporting Reds so this wont test my resolve on that score. But why do we have to put up with this crap?

    ReplyDelete
  33. If the players are more used to it, the possession based game will translate into goals. I for one have no doubts about that. It is a real pity that some of our players seem to be extremely unfamiliar with the passing game.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Agree with you that we still carry a few players who are average Prem players at best. Rebuilding the squad will take some time and so will returning to the top of the league, being it the top six, top four or the very top. I am pretty sure that this time next year we will have a proven goalscorer, or rather a prolific goalscorer.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I too am not happy that we didn't win today, but supporters who expect instant success may better consider following Man City or Chelsea. That's where the money is, therefore there's where instant success is much more likely. I prefer to continue not walking alone, even in this (shit) storm some fellow Reds are causing. Bring back Kenny, bring back Rafa. What if they don't deliver instant success? Bring back Roy?

    ReplyDelete
  36. We have a weak squad, we are 17th, we have not won a game in four, some would say we have a troublesome season ahead, or maybe 2.
We can't score and we keep making defensive errors.

On the bright side we have the lowest wage bill in the league and bigger profit for the Americans. Oh and don't forget our passing accuracy rate is the best in the league.

I am still hoping and backing BR, but not sure how long it will last, deep down I think I know it is not all his fault. For me rafa would still be number 1 choice.

Let's see how we fare in the January window with all the millions the Americans would have saved up and with our new scouting team.

By the way my 10year old cousin is a young british talent, he can score goals and we would sell him for 10million to any Americans willing to buy him. He can also play baseball or is it basketball if you need him for boston rovers. And the best thing about him is he will play for a packet of fruit pastels thus not affecting your wage bill.

    ReplyDelete
  37. sacking kenny has put the club backwards we can't get a top boss, so we take a gamble on someone else or get rafa, don't enjoy his football or call for kenny who ticks all the boxs for me, and fergie helped him out with the suarez stitch up, i would have kept him just to spite fergie but the cup runs,we missed lucas so kenny had momo diame on a free lined up, we have gone from 2/3 short ov top4 to 3 year plans with a novice who cost 20m+ in comp to get in and clarke keen and king kenny out

    ReplyDelete
  38. Darren I am sorry to break it to you but I think you are right. Yanks are in it for the profit. They will be hard to get rid of now. We wont be winning league for a long time to come.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 22 years and counting. The problem we all seem to have is with Americans. We were heading somewhere and fans were showing patience until the americans took over. It's not instant success, it's just signs of it we need. Do you see any?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Kenny and Clarke failed miserably...get over it...

They set us back 3-4 yrs spending millions upon millions on rubbish buys.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Four games and you people are on BR back getr agrip for gods sake.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thought we had the third best defence last year (have you watched our defence this year with the same players?), won a cup and final of another...Or was that a different team in red? If BR wants to talk the talk, its about time he started walking the walk. From what I've seen this year, we are worse than last year

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes four games Adrian, and Rodgers is talking shit, if this article is true. He(BR), said he expected at least 2 more signings to arrive b4 the window closed. He later said he was dissapointed about not getting Dempsey, SO TARGETS WERE IDENTIFIED, no scouts needed, but not bought. He is LYING, if this article is true. He has certainly gone down in my estimation of him.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i agree, BR needs time, i only hope he gets it

    ReplyDelete
  45. Rodgers himself suggested Liverpool don't need another goalscorer and that the centre halves and fullbacks need to chip in with goals.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't know if I'd really mind letting Shelvy go out on loan. But I think Sterling is going to be starting almost every game between now and January, with that much playing time, he's probably going to improve. Hopefuly they'll keep him. I think he'd be great coming off the bench in place of like a Suarez, if we get another scorer.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm not one who expects a quick fix, but I didn't want to take a step backwards either. If we finish 7th this year, I'd say, ok it's a transition year, no problem. But we're approaching the point where the record was the same as when they fired Roy H. If we weren't looking at relegation, and middle of the standings, I'd be more at ease with the rebuilding of this team. Yeah, there's no quick fix, but don't jack up the team and make things worse to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Your judging the manager after 4 league games. Two of which were against the Champions and the 3rd place side from last year and the other two, two tricky away games, one where we were unfortunate to have a player sent off and a couple of dodgy penalty decisions.

Rodgers was right to get rid of Carroll because he is useless unless the system is built around him like it is at West Ham. His judgement of players is 10* better than Dalglish and Hodgson.

Borini has played 4 league games for us, and only one has been in his preferred central position. Had his well taken volley gone in yesterday you'd be praising him to the hills. Give him and BR a break. At least there is sense to what Rodgers is doing. The mind still boggles at the players and prices we paid last season.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Stubborn. Rodgers! And Dalglish wasn't? Bellamy, Kuyt and Maxi scored whenever they got a chance (which was rare!) but still he kept playing Downing, Carroll and Henderson.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Borini is Carroll 2.0, minus the height. I don't think he's on the same page as Suarez, just like Carroll, and he can't seem to keep up with Suarez and Sterling. With Carroll, you could put a ball in and hope he could get his head on the ball. Borini doesn't even have that. I'd rather they have kept Dirk Kuyt and played him than Carroll or Borini.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Up until Lucas got injured last season we had the best defense in the league. With Spearing as our DM we started leaking more goals as the space between midfield and defence opened up. Please don't give credit to Dalglish when the credit really lies with Lucas. Rodgers is equally missing Lucas right now, but I have more faith that he'll turn it around than in someone who can actually in good mental health pay £35 million for Carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hey Hsingh29. It's been 4 games in a 38 game season. Chill out.

    ReplyDelete
  53. It's been 4 games. We've played City and Arsenal and had a man sent off against West Brom. No one had a harder opening five games than us.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah, but that's the problem, BR is on the record as saying we didn't need a scorer. Then in the last 5 days of the window, oh yeah, we might need someone who can score. That says one of two things, 1) either he had too much going on to notice that we needed someone who could put points on the board, or 2) That he isn't a great judge of talent (more likely, see Borini) to begin with, and needs a team of scouts.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Could you please enlighten me to how it's the current Americans fault that Comolli and Dalglish squandered £120m of their money on the worst players to ever don the Red shirt?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree. I thought the performance was good. It's been good in parts for all four opening games.

    ReplyDelete
  57. You do realize Napolo got Cavani before he was famous right? Which of those players would leave to a club not in the CL right now?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Good thing no one cares about your estimation. The less of you at the club the better.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jesus. It's been 4 games. You lot need to get a grip and reassess the situation when there's been time to properly judge.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Borini is not hacking it. Both Kuyte and Maxi were much superior.
Why not play Gerrard up front with Suarez and Sterling? SG has enough experience and desire to handle the job. He used to be pretty good at scoring in the 4-2-3-1 formation.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yeah he must have dreamt he was coaching Spain

    ReplyDelete
  62. At e moment Shelvey is palying better than Gerrard!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Our form in the second half of the season had us on relegation course. I am not surprised at all that we are struggling right now, but I am pretty confident that we soon will pick up the required points that will place us firmly away from the relegation places.

    ReplyDelete
  64. There you go. We couldn't afford any of the players you've mentioned because we've badly overspent on Carroll.

You actually forgot to answer my other question. Did any of the players you've mentioned move to their respective club last summer?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Why, oh why, well, first of all we've missed the boat in the 80s when the game was commercialised. You surely remember the times when club merchandise was sold from a shed in the car park at Anfield. Other clubs had real fan shops at that time already. That probably was the beginning of our downfall, but the impression I've got from our current owners is that they work hard to rectify exactly that. Won't be easy though, especially with sections of supporters who blame them for taking money out of the club when there is no evidence at all for that.

    ReplyDelete
  66. In the later stages of Moore's ownership fans weren't exactly showing patience, were they. Granted, H&G were probably the worst thing that could have happened to us. One problem, a mayor problem, lies within your first sentence, though. 22 years and counting. Maybe we should stop counting for a while. Many mistakes where made in those 22 years and it won't be easy to rectify all of them within two or so years. Maybe we should lower our expectations for a while. We won't win the league this year, and we probably won't win it next year. It actually took Shankly a few years to get us back into the first division.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I personally think we played really well yesterday. The tempo of the game was fast, we dominated possession, our passing gane was quick and accurate and everyone worked really hard during this game. People are slating borini but i think he did not do too badly, did he? He had a couple of shots on target which was unluckily for him saved by the sunderland keeper. Lets give him some time and not get on his back so early in the season. In case you people havent realised it yet we are kinda short especially upfront so we`ll just have, whether we want or not, to deal with this situation until january when hopefully reinforcements will come. Glen johnson had a pretty good game overall (except when he failed to prevent the player from crossing the ball to fletcher). Sterling was excellent but im not so sure about shelvey. He does not look really thyat great to me. Sahin should have played instead. As for Reina, he was again responsible for making us lose points. He had nothing to do the whole freakin match and conceded from the only chance at goal that sunderlamd had. Thats pathetic! I know glen johnson fail to tackle the sunderland player and allowed him to cross the ball goalwards but reina should certainly have done better on this. He jumped towards the ball too late and missed it badly which exposed his goal wide opened for anyone to score. BR should call Doni back coz reina is a liability. If it were someone else between the posts we would have drawn at arsenal 0-0, won at city 2-0 and won at sunderland 1-0 for sure...

    ReplyDelete
  68. My I remind you that we had the worst run in the second half of last season in the clubs HISTORY.
Dalglish's purchasing was horrendous and he deserved to be sacked for it, on one reason alone.
Dalglish refused to change it when it was not working, this is a sign of a Manager not being up to the modern game.
Finally to to make my point Dalglish had not managed a club since his sacking from Newcastle some 15 years earlier.
Which club without fan pressure would hire a man out of the game for so long ?
It's fans like you that are responsible for our predicament, harping back to nostalgic tour de force.
I bet you were calling for Dalglish to return, well, you got your wish and it didn't work.

    ReplyDelete
  69. fsg planned one big spend to get us competing until the youth started coming through. unfortunatly instead of llorente and mata we got downers and carroll. suarez, enrique, coates even henderson were good signings but 55mil went on the first 2 what a waste. its gona be a struggle til january. not sure what suarez has to have happen in the box to get a peno maybe if someone shoots him we mite get a peno. are the refs being told to give him nothing cos a united guy only has to fall i the box and they get one. maybe im bitter as in england the better teams get all thehelp from refs and we arent a big team anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  70. carroll cant cover the ground to work in this team neither can gerrard but thats another argument. carroll was injured at first, the narrow mindedness was kennys unfortunatly. if he had of waited til the summer he could of had llorent, negredo, falcoa, any amount of real good strikers and would probably still have his job now. the wastefulness has left fsg weary of spending big and i think their waiting to see how it goes before spending mad money again. think about it you give a guy how much? enough to buy suarez, carroll, hendo, coates, downers, enrique, adam well over 100mil and thats the players we got. would you run out and give another guy 100mil.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Funny I here that excuse quite alot. Manager needs to be given more time or the new signings like Borrini need more time. The thing is how much time would you personally give a manager if we happen to continue underperforming ( have a bad season).would you only sack a manager if we get relegated ? Or maybe wait until were in league 2 maybe ? If we finish 10 th say for instance at end of the season I take it you would feel he would need another season ? At what point would you sack a manager. If you were the owner I would just be interested in knowing ( if things didn't work out ) how long us fans would have to put up with bad performances or not getting results until you would get in a new manager ? It's also funny that Arsensl have just bought in 2 strikers that have never played in the premiership before yet I don't here any Arsensl fans shouting they need time . The reason for that is because there scoring goals already so I don't buy into that NEED MORE time crap I'm afraid . Berbatov has only just joined fulham yet scored 2 goals yesterday . Rodgers must be going wrong somewhere which ever way you look at it. Rodgers could of gone for berbatov who only cost 4 mill but decided to go spend 11 mill on Borrini because he scored a few goals for Rodgers in Chelsea RESERVES and Swansea in the CHAMPIONSHIP . I knew straight away Borrini was going to be a bad buy.I also don't get why people are saying the owners wouldn't back rodgers in the transfer Market for a prolific goal scorer but was that not what he bought Borrini for ?he spent 11 mill on him so I assume Rodgers was hoping to get plenty of goals from him .

    ReplyDelete
  72. 55mil wasted o carroll and downer. think that wouldve covered it

    ReplyDelete
  73. llorente available and falcoa was at porto when we signed carroll. cavani silly money

    ReplyDelete
  74. That is one of the dopiest things I've ever heard.we appointed 2 ex man city scouts that were outstanding for man city ? What a load of rubbish. Number 1 surely, surely if these 2 scouts were outstanding fir man city then why would man city let them go . I'm pretty sure they were on more money at man city too. Secondly I can't understand why anyone would think man city had amazing scouts ?all man city signings have been pretty obvious.I tell you what those man city scouts are amazing mate I never would of thought if buying ageuro and tevez. Toure or silva.when was the last time man city bought in a player not many have heard of and that player becomes a star ? Most of if not all of man city signings are already stars. Man city have money don't forget. So for that reason I dont think bringing in 2 ex man city scouts is very clever at all. If I were 2 get 2 scouts from another premiership club those scouts would be ex Arsenal scouts . I'm clever thank you very much ; )

  75. 20 odd years thers not much instant sbout that. houllier, rafa, kenny all had 5 year plans. you win the league in one year. 2009 was the year unfortunatly the manager who some deluded people stil want back thought it better to play dirk instead of keane even after keane got us 6 points against bolton and wba at home. remember stoke away torres and keane on the bench for a nil nil draw. so sad that our own manager didnt believe we could win the league. unfortunatly any belief the club had in itself has been sucked out. the players fans everyone isnt expecting to win anymore. i used to think we were gona win every game now i dread to think whats gona happen when we play. we have some really good players but i just dont see the belief. itd that same belief that keeps the scum up there fighing even tough they have had a poor team for a few seasons now. thats why fergies going nowhere if he goes so does the belief. liverpool have to start thinking they can win

  76. Doni would of saved the penalty skirtyl conceded then I take it ?you also forgot to mention we would of drawn 0-0 with west brom too if your saying doni won't let in any goals at all. 0-0 against west brom many would feel is still not a great result so I think our problems go a little further than just reina .your a genius deaththekid. We should have put doni in goal ages ago since he never let's in goals. Put doni in goal mate and suddenly our problems are solved . Doni in goal will make our team score goals all of a sudden too. Classic

  77. how was it difficult,it was not difficult for you ( rodgers) to buy joe allen with 15mill and borini with 10mill, the money that could have gave us Clint Dempsey and may two other good players, rodgers has nothing to prove in Lfc and the Lfc style of football has gone there is no way we can make it with rodgers as a manager,i always shared tears for our belove club Lfc.

  78. he's right tough any player gets a decent chance he should score. but we always hit the post

    ReplyDelete
  79. please i seen dirk and maxi play some rubbish borini plays a few games and hes crap get a grip man

    ReplyDelete
  80. Its quite scary that fans are thinking we need to improve to avoid relegation - a sad indictment on just how poor we are these days.

Should have brought in Van Gaal.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Actually with the exception of the Man City game the issue is the manner of the performances. It wouldnt matter who we were playing we just dont look like we can score goals.

    ReplyDelete
  82. sooo true there in lies the real problem .....its the yanks , they got rid of KK after 1 season and yes he made a few mistakes but doesnt everyone ...i truely believe that if KK and Clarke were still there this season we would have been in with a chance ....as for the reason KK bought british was for the law that was ment to come restricting the number of foriegn based players ( and then u know wat the price of any british player would be) and remember it was camolli would neg. a price for players NOT KK and he was put in by the Yanks ...
Brendom is too much of a talker for me Tika this and Tika that blah blah always talking a good game , why didnt he go stright after a Top notch striker as his first signing ...as any Liverpool supporter wat was our problem the whole of last season ...it was not creating BUT FINISHING ...why didnt he get a great finisher straight away ...why waste 11 mill on Borini and 15 Mill on Allen , we had a wealth of midfield players and he wastes 15 Mill on allen , who can only pass the ball in a straight line to the uy next to him or backwards ....with the 26 mill he wasted on Borini we could have had a really good qty striker after all Bereba went for only 4 and hes already scored ,,,,,and please dont give me this bullshit about AGE .....Utd played over the odds for Van Persie who is no spring chicken and is getting the returns .....dont aslo give me this building over time bull cuz we are going backwards fast and every season we dont make champs league becomes worse .....Brendoms is too much of a yes Boss no Boss to the Yanks where as Daglish was not and the Yanks well wat can i say .....clearly we didnt learn for Gillet and Hicks that we had to get a 2.0 ......and to think the Dubai arabs wanted to buy us first before Man City , who knows where we would have been with all there money .....oh yes man city won the league last year ...

  83. If Rodgers were to say the truth it would go something like this . I'm sorry fans but I thought Borrini was going to be a prolific goal scorer for us and that's why I spent 11 mill on him. Although a lot of fans out there can accept players need time I still feel maybe I made a mistake . Arsenals 2 new strikers seem to be settling in fine . Your only here the words need more time from underperforming clubs. How come Borrini needs more time ? He's played English football before .how come podolski and giroud dont need more time for arsenal and are scoring already ?neither of them have played for An English club before ,The reason for this is wenger knows what he's doing in the transfer Market and I don't .but to be fair to me I don't have many european contacts and I have had to look at what players I am familiar with which happens to be Swansea players and ex Chelsea reserve players.lucky for me Jose is a friend of mine from our Chelsea days together so I thank him for helping us out with a player ( sahin ) even though sahib wanted to play for Arsenal really . Lucky for us arsenal wouldn't take him because of no possible permanent deal at the end of the loan spell.I say lucky but we don't actually know if sahin is going to be great for us yet do we . Never mind at least we broke the welsh player transfer fee record and bought Allen for 15 mill which is a bargain if you think he's a better player than bale since he cost more .if it wasn't for Allen mate we would be 20 th lol. If we had got Demosey we would be top 4 right now lol. Not getting Dempsey is the reason were 17 rh. If we got Dempsey reina wouldn't of made any mistakes , skirtyl wouldn't of conceded that penalty.

  84. If we played really well against Sunderland yesterday yet still only manage a draw then we really are in trouble.what would the score of been if we just played average ?how well did Sunderland play? because if they didn't play that well then that makes us look even worse

    ReplyDelete
  85. Andy the americans appointed Camolli cuz they never full trusted KK , and Camolli neg thos prices ....why did they sack KK and Clarke when they wanted this level of crap , we played a lot better last yr , beat man City < man U and even won at Highbury after years , went to 2 cup finals and won 1 ....why didnt they leave in KK for 1 more year to learn from the mistakes he made , imagine if we all got fired for making a mistake after our first year at work where would we be ....lso remeber where we were with hodgson 12 th and KK brought us back to 6th the season before .....Kk should have been given more time , Blame the Yanks U bet i do and theres a lot more out there that do 2 .

    ReplyDelete
  86. I will also say thus we can't use being short up front as an excuse at the moment because even if we had bought a 3 rd striker I'm pretty sure saurez and Borrini would still be first choice so that excuse would only really take affect if saurez or Borrini go injured . In fact thinking about it if we had bought in a third attacker he probably would of got straight into the team . The trouble us the player he most likely would of replaced is sterling and sterling has been our best player so far this season so bringing in a 3 rd striker might not of worked out so well especially with Rodgers history of finding quality strikers ie Borrini lol

    ReplyDelete
  87. We wanted Dempsey and fulham go replace him with berbatov. Berbatov scored 2 goals yesterday I believe. How many did Borrini score for us. Berbatov has scored 2 more than Borrini has all season and that was just in yesterday's game alone. Berbatov must have a better team behind him then. Either that or berbatov is just a better player which is most likely the case there fir what were you playing at Rodgers spending 11 mill on a crsp striker when there were players available like berbatov and Ada for both 4 mill a piece. You could of got Ada and berbatov together for 8 mill ( 3 mill less then what you paid for . I'm sorry mr Rodgers but I don't think you have enough experience yet to be managing a club like ours. Hope you can prove me wrong but I can't see it.

  88. I did not mention the west brom match because any team would have lost this match anyway. It was our first match with a new manager and a new system, the fantastic volley from gerra was unstoppable, the red card and the ridiculous penalties against us all contributed to our defeat. On the other hand the rest of matches we played could have been different had we had a decent goalkeeper between the sticks. Did you not watch the matches? Let me refresh your memory:
Arsenal: 1st goal Reina beaten at his near post from a shot made in a really closed angle.
2nd goal was a pure blunder, period

Mancity: 1st goal Reina misjudged when to come out of his post during the cross and miscued which caused the ball to fall off kelly onto a city player.
2nd goal Reina saw skrtel attempting to back pass and saw tevez coming for the interception. He half heartedly attempted to block tevez path.

Sunderland: Reina again misjudged when to come out for the cross or maybe was just too freakin slow, in the process letting his goal completely opened for fletcher.

You dont have to be a genius to see this DILDOBOY. Reina is indeed the freakin weak link right now in our squad...

    ReplyDelete
  89. Reina is a liability, 95% of the time the ball comes near him he fluffs it and the balls in the net. He needs to see he has to make more of an effort to improve, he used to be good but not anymore.
We want to see exciting, fast football with accuracy and a determination to win. By the time we get the ball in the goal area the whole of the opposition is in front of goal. How come the oposition attack constantly not giving us time to settle but we stand off giving them time to make their move. We have to play with more positivity and want to win because looking at them sometime it does'nt look as if they do.
I have followed my team for 47 years and try to watch every game but it is very hard at times to get any inspiration from the way they play.

    ReplyDelete
  90. scoring for LFc and scoring for FFC is a whloe diff ball game.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I would of thought serie a isn't as strong as the premiership so buying a striker that's scored 9 goals in serie a last season and expecting him to better it or even equal it in our stronger league was always going to be unlikely don't you think. Rodgers obviously didn't feel the same . Rodgers thought because Borrini scored goals for him in the championship and Chelsea reserves meant he was going to be good enough to bang them away in the premiership .from the moment we signed him I never felt hd was going to be a great buy and although there is still time looks like I'm right so far the thing is I don't want to be right

    ReplyDelete
  92. At what point would I sack a manager. Well, that's easy, isn't it. As soon as I've realized that he won't keep us moving forward and probably as soon as I would realize that what he says and how he conducts himself in public (in front of the media) starts harming our club.

Regarding Borini, well, he's also scored a few goals in Italy, hasn't he.

BTW, neither do I know nor care what Arsenal fans have to say about their team. What have they got to do with us?

    ReplyDelete
  93. You can hardly blame Rodgers for that then.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Oh, when we signed Carroll, well, yeah, surely it wasn't Rodgers then who's gone for Carroll instead of Falcao. Now he would cost silly money, too while Llorente may become available in January for a reasonable fee.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Tell them Andy!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I truly agree with you, though we can't blame Rodgers for the past 20 odd years. All we can do is being patient and hope that he'll turn us 'round. I think there are signs that he's capable of doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Ok mr deaththekid I have watched all our games and yes I know reina has made a few bad errors but I can't understand why you seem to think he's our only problem right now? Are you happy with the amount of goals were scoring right now for example? Where do you expect or hope we realistically finish come the end of the season and do you think the amount of goals were scoring right now is enough to get us where we want to be ?you mentioned about tevez scoring man cities second goal . Skirtyl made a terrible back pass straight into the path if tevez yet you dint even put the slightest blame on skirtyl at all and decided to blame reina completely for that . Surely skirtyl had part to blame fir that 1 , surely ? And you accept a 3-0 loss away to west brom because any team would of lost there anyway ? Sounds to me like your saying west brom are going to win most of there home games this season. We shall see about that 1.also didn't both our back up goal keepers step in last season , look what happened there ?skirtyl concedes a penalty and plays a terrible back pass , agger gets sent off , you may feel the penalty was harsh and even aggers sending off but but these things that happened certainly were not reinas fault surely ? The fact were not scoring goals has surly got something to go with our results too ? If we had won our first 4 games this season say 5-4 each time you probably wouldn't be so upset with reina then because we would be winning. Anyway I thought having Allen in our midfield keeping ball possession was going to help us not concede goals with the if the other team dont have the ball they can't score philosophy. Yesterday was the first time we didn't let in 2 goals and I think the main reason for that is Sunderland look quite poor this season.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Could be how poor we are or how poorly we have been managed.

Van Gaal, well, he may have been the answer some years ago, good manager, have nothing against him, but he too is one to start trouble. At 61 he also isn't a manager I would ask to build a team for the future.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Now is the right times LFC must brave to using young talent like Suso, Adam Morgan,Conor Coady,Oussama Assaidi , Dani Pacheco and Samed Yesil. It is good benefit for future development.R.Sterling already prove that he can be LFC stars forever. No point to grind down rusty players like Downing and Henderson because they will be sell out soon.No matter what result is the intrresting to look young talent will be used and growing up faster.Maybe this Jan 2013 LFC will not bust to buying many players because young talent can fill in the vacancy too fast.It is can save the budget and LFC can consider make bid for high profile players. The big problem is not about goal scoring but lack at experiance level. B.Rodgers have many idea but he need times to show the result.Better used plan B+......Give many opportunity for young talent to grab very much experiance.Positive result will come latter.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Ok well they brought in comolli. Did they spend 120m? Was 50m not from sale of torres and I remember a few others going out too. When these Americans took over did they not realise they would have to make huge investment? Did they think 1 transfer window and thats it?

Problem is they are making mistake after mistake. It is good that they come out and admit it but that does not make things better.

They got rid of Hodgkin, then dalglish, now they appoint BR, let's see how long they give him.

I think reality is we have to accept it will take years before we are back challenging for top 4, forget about the league.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Agree with you on most of the above. The mistake was the Americans. Well under rafa we were getting somewhere so I was patient. In the end the funds ran out thanks to the Americans.

I think you are right we need to stop counting. But I did that after houllier mess. Thing is it should not take more than 2 years to see signs of recovery. Let's see how BR gets on with it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. This will become the scapegoat saying, for poor performances, lets hope we dont get hammerd by United ? because say what you will, thats one game that wont escape the critique, of most, if not all our supporters. no more excuses, points are what we want too see.

    ReplyDelete
  103. For a while we went in the right direction under Houllier, but he's then somehow lost the plot. Got the same impression with Rafa. Only so much blame can be laid at the owners door.

    ReplyDelete
  104. if you have the ball for 70% of a game that then only allows your opponents 30% of a game to get a goal, not a bad thing then eh. If they can't score in that spell of 30% then it's impossible to lose, do the maths, of course possession is important. Of course it is also better if we score during our 70% of possession too to convert that draw into a win.

    ReplyDelete
  105. What worries me about Liverpool is everything mate . The owners our new manager and our new signings.we lose 3-0 away to west brom and after the game Rodgers says he was happy with the players and they did what he asked them to do. In that case your tactics are completely wrong then especially away from home since it took you untill January to get your first away win with Swansea last year .we then draw 1-1 with Sunderland and your also very happy with our performance there too.when we get a 3-0 loss and a 1/1 draw with west brom and Sunderland and our manager is happy then our expectations are no where near a top 4 this season that's for sure

    ReplyDelete
  106. And of course the poor peformances against Gomel, and Hearts, suppose seeing from your rose tinted glasses they are top teams also, smell the coffee Andy.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I can tell you now we won't win many away games this season. Maybe I should pick our new manager next time

    ReplyDelete
  108. What Rodgers said after the west brom game to the media" I was happy with the players , they did what I asked of them. What the media should of said in reply " in that case mr Rodgers why did you tell reina to let in 3 goals and why did you tell agger to go get himself sent off ? Also telling saurez and Borrini specifically not to score a goal was a bit strange lol .

    ReplyDelete
  109. well said, and quite obvious

    ReplyDelete
  110. I heard this a while back, the old scouts were let go when Dalglish went and the new ones they had were contractually obliged not to start their new positions due to release clauses from their previous clubs. However Rogers had some intelligence from the old regime and the scouting that went on while he was at Swansea. I just hope January see's us bring in at least one striker

    ReplyDelete
  111. Who's not in it for the profit?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Even without an extensive scouting network, we could have just did what Spurs did and jumped onto whoever was being linked with other clubs. It didn't take much time or effort for me to establish that Mirallas was more talented, more proven, more versatile and available for less money than Borini.

I might not know how much he loves his family, how he acts with his friends, what his hobbies are or any other extra-curricular info, but tbh, I don't really care about any of that - it's easy to tell whether a player is professional or not, and to establish whether he is of the necessary quality or not. Too often LFC focus on the off pitch stuff, and ignore signing's lack of actual footballing ability.
Just bringing Mirallas in, along with Sturridge (and leaving Borini alone) would've had our squad looking infinitely more healthy and maintained my optimism that we'd make a big leap this year.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Borini is a hard trier but will never be a prolific goal scorer. There was a reason Chelsea let him go. As for his volley, well that's the trouble it didn't go in & as you are well aware that's what counts. For too long now we have deluded ourselves by believing that we are just unlucky well top strikers make things happen & luck has nothing to do with it. As for Carroll Rogers was very poor the way he handled that situation. I think Carroll should have been given more time as he looked like he was starting to come good. After investing 35m in him & the fact that he is still very young & he was injured when we signed him, he should have been given a chance under the new manager & if in January he wasn't producing the goods then sell him. Instead BR publicly told the world that Carroll did not fit into his style of play & had no future at LFC, thus destroying any resale value & the players confidence. Hardly good management. BR was stupid enough to loan out Carroll before signing a replacement. Again poor Management. Its the managers job to make sure that we had a replacement & shouldn't have allowed Carroll to go with out the ink being dry on the contract of a replacement. When we went a man down against WB BR hadn't a clue as to what to do. Defensively we are very naive & in all honesty we havn't a hope in hell of making the top four this year or for the foreseeable future. I ask you can you ever see BR winning the champions league even if we had the players ?? Me neither. I hope BR works out at LFC but I think he will be sacked next summer & we will have to start all over again which will benefit no-one. Perhaps we will be lucky enough to get Murihno, even Harry Rednapp would do.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Its not fair to tell a supporter to go support a different club just because he wants LFC to be successful. Everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it differs from yours. Yes Rogers should be given time but I also happen to think that he is not the right manager for LFC but I also hope that he makes me eat my words. I don't claim to be an expert just a fan who has supported & watched LFC play for the last 40 years. This is just my honest opinion. We are all supporters. I hope that we are not dragged into a relegation battle. Seventh would represent an improvement on last season. Instant success is not realistic but winning the odd game would help to appease fans.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Shouldn't we be looking to finish at least in the top four not fighting relegation. This is LFC we are talking about not Swansea (no offence Swansea). Borini is a hard trier but a rubbish striker. Ngog is better than Borini & we shipped him out for not being up to the mark. Can you actually see BR winning the EPL in the future ?? I can't

    ReplyDelete
  116. I, too, want our club to be successful, but I also find it very, very annoying that some people tell Rodgers to find a new club, simply because they don't want to acknowledge the improvements to our general play that should be obvious to see. These folks want instant success, but even Man City didn't get that when they started spending big, did they? I don't see much support in "sack Rodgers, bring back Rafa/Kenny".

    ReplyDelete
  117. Of course our aim should be to enter the top four again, but how realistic is that given where we've finished the last few years. By the way, I don't think that we will be fighting relegation this season and truly believe that results will come soon.

N'Gog is better than Borini? Well, I don't think so. Borini is pretty young and he's doing 90% of things right, good movement, an eye for a better placed team-mate and so on.

Yes, BR can win the league with us, but not this season and probably not next.
