As a Liverpool fan, there are few things more gloriously satisfying than seeing Manchester United fail. After the pure, unadulterated joy of seeing United lose the title to Manchester City in 'Fergie Time' with literally the final kick of last season, the joy continued this week with the news that the Old Trafford side has hit a brick wall in its pursuit of Arsenal's Robin Van Persie.
Speaking to Reporters after United's friendly against Barcelona in Gothenburg on Wednesday, Ferguson was clearly exasperated by Arsenal's inflexible approach to the Van Persie deal:
"We can't get a breakthrough with Arsenal. We've made a bid, they [Arsenal] have been trying to negotiate with other clubs. I don't know what Arsenal's thoughts are because they're not giving anything away. It's difficult to say why they're operating this way"
The Van Persie glitch comes hot on the heels of another joyous moment: United's failure to sign Brazilian star Lucas Moura. The deal seemed nailed-on for a while, which makes Moura's eleventh hour decision to reject United in favour of PSG even sweeter. Still reeling from losing the youngster, a shell-shocked Ferguson whined:
"They [PSG] must have spent about £150m in the last month, and when somebody's paying 45 million euros for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game's gone mad. I find it quite amazing"
I can't stomach the idea of a goal machine like Van Persie going to Man United. If he signs, the chances of United winning the title next season go up by 50% straight away, and no one wants that. Let's hope that Arsenal continue to stall, and end up selling Van Persie to some other club.

He's a brave man if he goes there! not so much these days but a few years ago united and Arsenal had a lot ov rivalary. If he goes City he'll be slated for going for the money if he goes united he'll be slated again. He'd be better going abroad! personally i think he'd be better staying put, Arsenal play some top football and have made a few really good signings this season i wouldnt be suprised to see Arsenal back up there fighting for the prem. he could always just come to Liverpool? maybe Wenger will take a straight swap for Carroll? ha oh well can always hope
ReplyDeleteArsenal would never sell a star player to Man Utd, unless they're offering the type of silly money only the likes of Man City, Chelsea or PSG would be prepared to offer.
ReplyDeleteNot even sure why they're after more attacking players anyway, it's not the area they need to improve, especially after signing Kagawa.
"As a Liverpool fan, there is nothing sweeter than seeing Manchester United fail ..."
ReplyDeleteSweeter than seeing Liverpool win? That's just sad.
They also lost out on hazard. Hope RVP goes to italy :)
ReplyDeleteGood god Jaimie you sound like a Bitter , ohhhhh wait no your a Dipper ;)
ReplyDeleteWinding up rival fans is part and parcel of being a football fan, no ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes that's true , you did see the wink at the end of my post. ;) Have fun.
ReplyDeleteNot really interested in what Utd do tbh. More interested in what my own club as you should be too.
ReplyDeleteSorry Dad.
ReplyDeleteSorry Dad.
ReplyDeleteAw poor Fegie getting pissed off because Arsenal wont play his game. Remember when he wouldnt sell us his second choice LB Heinze but would let him go anywhere else. He can take his big dummy and stick it up his arse!!!
ReplyDeleteBut you winked at the end of the sentence where you talked about the wink. Does that mean the original wink didn't actually happen!?
ReplyDeleteGah!
I think RVP suits Arsenal's style of play better than United's. Fergie would be better off getting Huntelaar- scored more goals than RVP last season (admittedly in a weaker league), has a far better injury record and would be much cheaper (transfer fee and wages).
If Liverpool were smart they'd get Huntelaar. Who was Huntelaar playing up front with (actually in a 3 pronged Rodgers style Dutch system) when he had his most prolific season? Luis Suarez.
Fergie spent 25m on 17 yearold Rooney? Hypocrite
ReplyDeleteWhy don't all you wall pushers fuck off and worry about your non entities getting into the top 10
ReplyDeleteHaha. Good point :-)
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAH you scouse bastards are ALWAYS thinking about us..OBSESSED with united eh!! suck it 19 times bitches
ReplyDeleteHi Jaimie. Nice to hear some banter from you - better than taking all the comments too seriously eh? Suits you.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Liverpool fans 'love' for their biggest rivals is still alive & kicking......according to the City fans they think they're a 'big' club now & our biggest rivals.......pfffffffft.......I keep telling them, nothing comes near the Liverpool / Man Utd rivalry.....true?
ReplyDeleteas The Horse correctly states ....any true liverpool supporter has no real interest in who united sign...its not good or bad news ...who cares ...thats why you never hear anti man united songs at anfield unless we play them ..but then again..real match going supporters would know that ...i sometimes wonder if this site is designed to bait liverpool fans ...a manc in disguise maybe ...in fact ..id be willing to bet 500 quid on it ....que the delete button ....and as for anyone who can accept being called a dipper ...well ...i rest my case .... heres to supporting liverpool ...if we win we win and im happy...if anyone elsee does ..well good luck to them.
ReplyDeleteThe Liverpool/Man Utd is the best rivalry in history, from a scouse fan...the only team Liverpool could admire and hate at the same time, Fergie's a god damn swine but he's the most intelligent manager of all time as far as i'm concerned....keeps competing for riches every season. It will be our time again one day, let's just hope i'm not a pensioner before it happens!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more regarding Robin van Persie's transfer fee , reported to be £20 million , reputed wage demand 200 k per week . Total cost to Manchester United for say a 5 year contract , which he allegedly is seeking ,£ 70 milllion. For a 29 year old with one magnificent season for the Gunners .Prior to that during the 7 previous season's playing a mere 20 games per season. Mainly due to a horrendous and sadly recurring injury history .
ReplyDeleteAlso it not Manchester United's current policy of buying players , that are going to be part of the club for the future . The next 10 years .
Also in Robin van Persie's case there is zero resale value for him at United . Another aspect the club are currently concerned with .
Thanks for the tip on Huntelaar . I will bare that in mind for the future.
A tip for you mate , we have a very classy Bulgarian called Dimitar Berbatov availiable still for a basement bargain price of £5 million.
Would fit in brilliantly with the likely new style Brendan Rodgers , will bring with him from Swansea . Inherited from Roberto Martinez , aka Barcelona- esque .
Cheer's .But United would not sell you a virus . And that's why Arsenal will not sell Robin van Persie to United, to enhance a competitor . ;)
Agreed. LFC - Maan U rivalry is fantastic. I have great respect for Ferguson; fantastic manager, and the game will be poorer when he finally retires.
ReplyDeleteThats very generous of you Jaimie , seriously .Thanks for letting me join in your little pop at United. ;)
ReplyDeleteGood luck Dippers for next season. Not . lol;
I
Come on. As a Liverpool fan you should at least be slightly pleased with their failings?! :L
ReplyDeleteTotally agree......The rivalry in my view started when we won the European Cup in '68, then look what happened!! we had to look on awe at untouchable Liverpool teams during the 70's & 80's with 2 of the best managers ever to grace the game....not nice as a Utd fan as we were only picking up bits & pieces, but have to respect what Liverpool did.......then it was our turn......no matter who you support, you have to doff your cap to any team that are as good as your own & that will always be Liverpool FC
ReplyDeleteSIR ALEX HYPOCRITESOn
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad bitter twat you are. I guess becuse your shite tea,m is so , well, shite, you only get enjoyment from seeing better clubs relatively fail. Number 20 is coming, when will the dippers ever win the league again???? YNWL (you'll never win the league)
ReplyDeleteVan persie will sign he has the bottle to move.Unlike stevieeeeeeeee meeeeeeeeeeee gerard who had`nt the balls to leave liverpool. What a waste of a career.Still theirs always the bargain bin in swansea and fulham.Oh and bye bye agger. This is yer year..steve gerard gerard he kisses the badge on his chest puts in a transfer request..............
ReplyDeleteAlex Mc Taggart the biggest hypocrite you'll ever c. MU were ready to offer 38 million euros for that 19 year old. Nice to c players not going there.
ReplyDeleteFact is everyone in finance knows United's owners have a very dodgy financial situation which means they dont have the money they are used to spending and they are trying to force Arsenal to sell Van Persie on the cheap.
ReplyDeleteFerguson is the biggest hypocrit in Football.
Very clever, indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I saw a pun that witty was in a French novel I read. I couldn't possibly translate it for you.
They have sign a sponsorship new deal with GM for 30 million a year for five year. You think they still don't have the money?
ReplyDeleteRVP go to Juventus, anywhere but United. Maybe Fergie, Arsenal are being like this because they don't want to sell to a rival. Just like you wouldn't.
ReplyDeleteSahin, Tello, Allen, Ramirez, Walcott, Johnson in Agger, Spearing, Adam out. Let Coates fill the Agger spot and then put in a cheeky last minute transfer shocker for RVP! Nice to see our rivals struggling to secure players but it could so easily be us ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm a city fan, and I couldn't agree more about the failure of united. It's hilarious that Fergie goes public and says that 'RVP is mine' and then the next day his bid got rejected haha. And failing to sign lucas moura just proves that people aren't scared of him now. So far his marquee signing is Kagawa lol. Yes City have yet to sign someone but unlike United, we don't need any new players, we are the best team in the league now.
ReplyDeleteMan U failing to get a player is the best transfer news of the year? Really??
ReplyDeleteDoesn't say a lot about our own transfer business I guess...
Hav u forgot about Whiny Rooney who put a transfer request to get more money, that arseh**e mercenary. Jus wait till fergy leaves and ull be fighting relegation
ReplyDeleteyep just tell mancini to get his fingers off agger
ReplyDeleteYea it does say a lot about our business it tells all the posters on here banging on about us not being able to sign players that even with cl to attract players even manure are having problems and long may it last.
ReplyDeleteRVP is his though. He never said he was his though, at the moment you were talking about anyway. He is a pantomime villain but you don't need to talk crap to illustrate that.
ReplyDeleteMancini doing his usual crying and moaning about City's transfer activity this summer or is it some kind of act, part of some mind game masterplan by Mancini....yawn, though I'd throw that in there for you as I know how tribal football fans are with their excuses. So much for 'we don't need any new players'. You just bought Rodwell.
One title and your ego is as big as any Manure fan already. Not surprising, with the way Chelsea and City funded their success, fans like you come out of the woodwork in such a manner.
Fergie got his man. How's your stomach? :D
ReplyDeleteIn bad shape, believe me! United have to be favourites for the title now. Life sucks.
ReplyDeletearsenal arent a rival to utd what was the score at old trafford last season 8-2....8 2 be an arsenal fan though lucky you dont support liverpool so every cloud has a silver lining, van persie and rooney up front will be mouth watering and add kagawa with the creatativity will be unstoppable
ReplyDeleteon rawk the dippers are saying its a bad signing lol you couldnt make this up yeah and 35 million for the championships 3rd top goalscorer in 2010 andy carroll was a bargain lol Van persie was top scorer in the EPL last year also won player of the year16million up front rising to 24 depending on games played trophies won etc thats a bargain.Great bit of business
