'That's not true!' - Agent contradicts Rodgers over LFC star. Trouble ahead...?

Daniel Agger was left out of Liverpool's squad to face FC Gomel in the Europa League last night, fuelling speculation that the Dane could be on the verge of leaving Anfield. After the game, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insisted the defender's absence was due to fitness concerns, a claim that contradicts the appraisal of Agger's Agent has now refuted that claim.

In his post-match press conference, Rodgers said:

"The plan was always for Daniel to stay behind. Everyone knows his history of injuries. He came back to pre-season training after everyone else and is still not up to speed"

That seems fair enough, and it makes sense given Agger's injury history. However, Per Steffersen - Agger's Agent -refuted Rodgers' explanation. He told Politiken:

"He [Agger] is not injured in any way. Only the club and the manager can answer to why he is not in the squad"

Steffersen insisted that Agger remains 'happy' at Liverpool, but added:

"There has been no approach from Liverpool's management on a contract extension"

In an interview after Denmark's defeat to Germany in Euro 2012, Agger confirmed that he's happy to stay at Liverpool for the foreseeable future:

"It's no secret that I'm happy at Liverpool. I have not spoken with the club [i.e. LIVERPOOL], but if they come with an offer, I will definitely sit down and talk with them. It's not something that is urgent, as I have contract until 2014"

With Barca, Real Madrid and Manchester City reportedly waiting in the wings to sign Agger, Liverpool's lack of action over discussing a new contract with the player is a little worrying...unless the club actually plans to sell him.

  1. Awful "journalism". Agent's comments were made BEFORE Rodgers' comments.  Agger is simply not yet match fit, and he is being nurtured. No point sending him all the way over to Belarus risking his fitness in such a tie.

  2. There's no contradiction:
    BR) he's not match fit
    Agger Agent) he's not injured

  3. Jamie, you need to get the facts right. You are always putting things out of perspective. I wonder how long you've been a true liverpool supporter. Please stop reporting inaccurate accounts.

  4. I think you have misunderstood Jaimie as Agger's agent spoke about this before Rodgers and Rodgers never actually said Agger was injured. What he said was he has a history of injuries and he is not completely match fit. Words to that effect anyway.
I'm not saying this to simply take a shot at you, more just trying to avoid people getting in a panic with the way it has been written

  5. Why do you contrive such stories you moron....comments taken out of sequence to manufacture story..prat!

  6. Jamie with another stunner....great site for morning laughs

  7. Agreed, this is poor reporting. The agents comments were made before Rodgers' comments.

Rodgers is only looking out for his player. He hasn't played much games so he didn't wanna risk him. Nothing in it.

  9. Rodgers never said he was injured, so I don't think we can really say that Aggers agent has contradicted him. Especially as his interview was before Rodgers one.

  10. sorry Jaimie i generally tend to enjoy your articles because at least they give a different point of view BUT this is just blatant chasing of "views"

  11. Seriously Jimmy, you are really grabbing at straws right now.

  12. Wow I've never seen that many attacks at Jamie's view's and journalism skills, without a reply from him!!!
But just to add you have twisted that story just to attack the club and the manager for no reason.

  13. A player can be low on fitness but not injured. Fitness and injury are two different things.

  14. For once Jamie with nothing to say!!  Admit it Jamie, you got it WRONG.

  15. What difference does it make if the agent's comments were made before Rodgers?! None whatsoever. The bottom line is there is still a conflict there. Plus, you ignore the rest of the quote - early, Steffersen is bemused as to why Agger was not in the squad. If it was a genuine fitness concern then he wouldn't talk this way.

  16. It isn't a contradiction. Where does Rodgers say Agger is injured? I think Rodgers and he's staff know better how to manage a players fitness more than he's agent.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Kanwar why you block my comments? It's not a contradiction, Rodgers doesn't say he's injured! I trust Rodgers and he's staffs judgment on a players fitness before he's agents!

  18. It is a contradiction. The key word here is not 'injury' - what's important is the Agent's indirect assertion that Agger is fit enough to play. Agger speaks through his Agent so Steffersen's comment is probably an expression of Agger's frustration with not being played.
Additionally, context should be considered. If Agger played last night he would've been cuptied for any new team. How convenient, then, that he didn't play. Same goes for Carroll and his alleged groin injury.
Lets just agree to disagree. You think one thing, I think another.

  19. But he would not have been cuptied had he played last night so your basing your context off shaky ground to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I understand what you mean by the cup tied thing. I dont understand why we would sell him though, he's our best when fit and he doesn't seem to be pushing for a move away!

  21. Pointless anyone writing on here because Jamie deletes them if they remotely contradict him.

  22. Still think you are wrong Jamie

  23. With respect, that's wrong. If Agger had played last nught he woukd be cup tied for the Champions League.

  24. Wheres the conflict? Rodgers said it was cautionary due to A HISTORY of injuries. You sound like a tabloid rag when you post sensationlist crap like this.Well done on the rest of the site.

  25. That only applys to teams in the europa league.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No it doesn't! Please do some research before trying to refute something that is correct.

  27. he says,, everyone knows his history of injuries,, probably did not want to risk him so early,, agger himself says he is happy at Liverpool,, im thinking smoke but no fire... as well as with skrtel,, just a smokescreen with the media who sometimes just write up stories like this when they dont have anything    else to write about.

    ReplyDelete
  28. from what i am understanding,, our players have not picked up much playing time yet,, so given the fact that Agger played in euro 2012, AND is prone to injuries,, this might just be what it looks to be,, a precausion by Rodgers.

  29. What the article fails to mention is that the agents comment was prior to Rodgers comment. Agent says you have to ask the club cause he's not hurt. Club says it was precautionary. End of.
This is just the media spinning a situation to get another article read because there is already speculation due to City's bids. Shame on you for presenting it in a misleading way.

  30. read a while back that flying causers agger back problems so yes we had enough cover for him not to make a 5 hour flight .wrap him incotten wool .bigger fish to fry.just wondering if his agent is after few bob

  31. "Agents" are  like leeches. Bloodsucking pests.

  32. Dagger is not injured. He may be injury prone. If history is a reference. sell him. Nobody in their right frame of mind will say " I'm resting him for the rest of the season as he is injury prone" get a grip. He is employed by the club to do a job. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  33. For a player who has been injured 17 times during his tenure with LFC, and a club comes calling with a 20mil offer? I say take it. Common sense.
Look at the potential of strengthening the squad overall with that money .

    ReplyDelete
  34. We could sign a player who played in the champions league and use them in the europa. But, if we were to meet that team in the Europa league after them being kicked out. They then would become cup tied. Need an example? Suarez and Ajax. x

    ReplyDelete
  35. So what. He played the euro's and has come back late. Rogers says that quite clearly.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I like your thinking pal. But, this has happened before. We should buy before we sell. Sell first, any player we go after will suddenly become an auction between us and several mystery clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  37. he's not cup tied unless he plays for another europa league club mate. christ i thought you lot were liverpool fans. it wasnt long ago suarez couldnt play against ajax for exactly the same reasons.

  38. tut tut Jaimie.
I notice you deleted loads of comments that rightly and politely pointed out your errors. you really cannot handle discussion. massive lol at your stance on critical realism.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Looks like his agent is just trying to protect his client's interests in case anyone is interesting in buying, which is very likely considering his talent. I doubt he's going to say, yes he's taking precautions because of his history of injuries...

    ReplyDelete
  40. No conflict here.

BR says he's not fit, agent says he's not injured.

The order of the comments would allow us to speculate a bit further.
