Liverpool continued pre-season preparations earlier today with a behind-closed-doors friendly with Rochdale Town at Melwood, which was abandoned after 55 minutes as a result of a serious injury to one of the Lancashire club's players.
Rochdale striker Reece Gray suffered a serious ankle injury in the 50th minute of the game**, and it sounds like a major incident, especially given the fact he was rushed to Accident and Emergency for an urgent operation. Reece tweeted from the hospital:
"Thanks for all the messages people. Really appreciate it!.. Jus hope that the op goes well, and should be back playing football soon as!"
Reece also praised Liverpool medical staff for their swift action:
"Can't thank all the club doctors/physio's enough that were on hand too assist me 2day at melwood... Really appreciate it"
At the time of the injury, Liverpool were winning the game 2-1, with the goals scored by Nathan Eccleston and Glen Johnson.
The starting line-up was very interesting. After missing out against FC Gomel, Daniel Agger returned, as did Andy Carroll and Pepe Reina:
---------------------- Reina
Johnson ------- Kelly -------- Agger ------ Robinson
---------------------- Lucas
--------------- Shelvey ----- Adam
Eccleston ----------- Carroll ---------- Pacheco
** Rumours that Liverpool's Charlie Adam was the player who took down Gray are unconfirmed at this stage ;-D

haha Adam I hope he can do it to Bale again
ReplyDeleteJesus, poor lad. Lets hope it ain`t career ending, as unlike top players he wont be already set up for life.
ReplyDeleteThat team looks strong, almost as though its a near first team 11. With a few changes to see how the younger ones handle it. To me it shows a lot more than the cash cow trips to USA etc.
Good to see that Kelly was getting a bit of a chance at his more natural position.
ReplyDeleteThe sooner we sell Adam to a league 1 side the better. He's crap. Never wanted him in the first place but unfortunately dalglish thought differently
ReplyDeleteAnti Charlie Adam Brigade
ReplyDeletehope reece gets well soon hope carrol and agger stay hope we sign some decent players soon hope we get champions league next year sh£t lost all hope
ReplyDeleteStrange that isn't it - I mean, professional football people like Dalglish, Rodgers and other football managers like him as a player but you declare him crap.
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't possibly be wrong could you?
rumours that adam took hom down are unconfirmed - Jamey Kanwar being a sh!t stirring Tw*T again. T0sser
ReplyDeletemaybe hes just cracking a joke big lad
ReplyDeleteIt was a joke. Adam isn't a terrible player, and he could still come good. But he is a terrible tackler. That's just obvious.
ReplyDeleteSo here we go again! There's going to be no allowance to criticize Adam is there? Yet another "holy cow" ?
ReplyDeletethanks for the update on the game Jamimee
ReplyDeleteJohnny let's not be too quick to make an assessment of who BR likes and doesn't like. Do you think Adam playing in this game equates to Adam being in BR's first 11 for the season?
ReplyDeleteAdam is slow (thinking, executing and moving) - and too qualify my statement, I am speaking relative to what I believe a Liverpool player should be. I'm sure he did a great job for Blackpool but that doesn't mean he's good enough for a team with ambitions for CL.If you think he's that good, and you think BR likes him, then give me your prediction on how many starts (lasting 70 mins on the pitch) you think Adam will get. I don't think he will get more than 20 league starts.
Or perhaps the 'not good enough for Liverpool brigade'
ReplyDeleteOf which I am a signed up member
ReplyDeleteDalglish Liked him with no doubt at all, Holdsworth LOVED him in his Blackpool set up. Rodgers has picked him throughout his pre-season. Some pretty big pointers there isn't there?
ReplyDeleteALL professional football managers, but you disagree. I hope you don't get too upset if I go with their judgement rather than yours.
Are you actually saying that you want to judge him on your guess of how many games he'll get? What if he plays 25 games, or 30 games - would you then change your mind?
Adam is a one man wrecking crew. Especially when trying to play Barca style ticky tacka.
ReplyDeleteis it confirmed to be adam? im sure its jus rumoured,,,coming from a liverpool supporter IF it is adam he needs to calm the fuk down or leave the club,,my best wishes are with reece in a speedy recovery]
ReplyDeletey.n.w.a
Adam is not good enough. He is an embarrassment.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the line-up I guess it's the players that haven't played much lately who gets a run through the first team.
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree that professional managers have liked him but let's not equate that with him being good enough for LFC (the results of LFC under KD, in which Adam played, were poor and cost KD his job). If BR rates Adam then it will signal one of 2 things in my view - that he has been able to improve the performances of Adam - whereby I will eat humble pie, or BR is unable to judge the standard of players needed to win titles.
ReplyDeleteBack to the prediction...if BR gives him 25 starts then I will say that BR rates him. (Under KD Adam made 35 then 28 appearances in the last 2 seasons)
Given KD's assessment how many starts do you say he will get this season under BR? Are you saying he will be a 30+ games a season player for us ie first team choice - obviously if he gets injured then I won't hold you to it ;-)
What's your prediction then?
One thing Charlie Adam must improve on is his tackling abillities, or simply just his timing of them. He's got loads of passion and at times really makes a difference, but when he gets frustrated is when he makes harsh challenges. Liverpool can't afford to just toss him to another side, there will be matches where Charlies style will suite the style of play and we need that depth in the team. Charlie is a hard player to accept as part of the team, but with a little patience he can become a great LFC player. YNWA!!!!!
ReplyDeletekenny's last good signings were during the late eighties, and then shearer. since then he has lost the plot. adam would not get close to any top side in any serious division, nor downing, nor henderson, and no one else would have paid even half of the 35 m for a drunken thug like carroll.
ReplyDeletei guarantee you BR does not rate adam and that part of his remit under FSG is to clean up the mess left by previous managers/owners.
its only a matter of time before the plump lummox adam is on his bike to somewhere mid table or worse. he cant tackle, pass or run.
the closest adam will get to tiki taka is a chicken tikka on a saturday night after watching the game from the stands.
ReplyDeleteGiven that Rodgers prefers to play with a midfied three then I think he'll get less games next season than last IF Allen is brought in. If Allen isn't brought in then Adam will play as many games as he is fit for - the simple part of the equation is who else is available NOW? The likely hood is that the midfield three will be Gerrard, Lucas and Allen (Adam). The three who will act as backup for them will be Adam, Spearing and Shelvey,
ReplyDeleteIt's all very well having an opinion but you really shouldn't confuse "opinion" with "knowledge".
is this a joke or??
ReplyDeleteHow can you make a guarantee like that?
ReplyDeleteThat's a silly thing to say and for any so called Liverpool fan to refer to ANY of our players like that is just disrespectful in the extreme - regardless of what your judgement of these players is that is not support.
Far too many idiots have attached themselves to our club.
By the way - what do you mean "he played 35 then 28 appearances in the last two seasons????
ReplyDeleteHe only made his Liverpool debut: 13.08.2011
did you notice that adam commits 2 regular errors. 1-he gives the ball away frequently. 2- he gives free kicks away frequently.
ReplyDeletei guarantee you that neither of those 'qualities' suit rodgers playing
style. giving the ball away cheaply is a cardinal sin when it comes to
chicken tikka football. adam is not about to become xavi.
you can give it all the blindly supporting every part of the team
nonsense you want, but thats not for me. i never wanted him at the club,
and after one season, he's already backed up my initial feelings.
adam is not fit enough to be a top level player, and if he can't put the
extra hard graft in thats required to play rodgers way, there's another
reason for him to be sold. don't worry though, you can put him in your
sun dream team.
before you start calling people idiots, pull your head out of your arse and watch adam's plod around the pitch skying the ball and fouling people
I don't confuse opinion with knowledge and I would suggest you don't presume to know what I know (if you don't want to get embarrassed).
ReplyDeleteOn the subject of confusing knowledge with opinion...I think you might want to take a look at your response - you are making a lot of assumptions on what BR will be doing aren't you? 'if Allen isn't brought in then Adam will play as many games as he is fit for' - have you got a crystal ball? Or confusing knowledge with confusion?I think you are avoiding the question..I think you are you starting to wriggle a bit - all of a sudden you start to talk about formations and players we haven't even signed yet. Ha!No prediction from you on how many games our beloved Charlie will play? Strange that...when it comes to the crunch you don't seem to want to back up your OPINION.
Premier appearances under Holdsworth and KD
ReplyDeleteexactly, build up fitness in prep for the sale/game time. notice how there are very few of the side that played on thursday there.
ReplyDeleteallen is coming, make no mistake. he's no money hungry fish farmer that is going to do one to spurs. and when he does come, he will very quickly become a fans favourite AND be integral to our play.
ReplyDeleteallen is in another league compared to henderson, adam and spearing.
adam will not willingly leave (due to the fact he knows he'll never get as good a pay packet he's on now) until he realises that he will barely play under BR.
allen, lucas and stevie G is as good a MF 3 as any other EPL side.
Now you're compounding your error by confusing opinion, assumption and knowledge. Sort it out and we can have a conversation - as for setting yourself up as some sort of "in the know" - behave yourself soft lad, it's the internet.
ReplyDeleteYou said "Under KD Adam has made 36 and 28 appearances in the last 2 seasons".
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the mistake is mine though, what with you being an "in the know" poster and all.
the strongest rumours floating about name ramirez, allen, dempsy plus now BR mentions loan signings. BR has already stated that he will bring in first team players and not just squad numbers. squad players block the youth players, which goes against the remit thats been agreed upon between BR and FSG.
ReplyDeletethat means we could be looking at borini, clint or ramirez(maybe both), allen and two loan signings. thats around 5 first teamers coming in. that means something has to give elsewhere, and my bet is that adam, carroll, cole, bellamy and spearing are the most likely to get the boot. be that now or january or next summer.
of the saleable players, only carroll and adam have any real value, and its all money well needed right now.
read the post again look at the smiley face at the bottom jaimie is trying to be funny why do you think he has not replyed to any comments hes a cleaver tw%$t is the jamster
ReplyDeleteSo it's NOT a guarantee, it's just an opinion - glad we cleared that up/
ReplyDeleteintuition based on everything ive read, plus comments the anfield wrap guys make(who quietly give certain inside knowledge they have away).
ReplyDeletei also heard that until the last few months of the season, carroll was upto no good , down the docks entertaining ladies of the night, getting blind drunk and insulting people.
a friend of mine saw AC in a bar toilet in manchester, telling the toilet assistant that 'my shoes are worth more than you earn in a month'. that definitely doesn't fit in with the down to earth , humble attitude of most of the people of liverpool.
also its been said that adam stuff's his face way too much and really struggles with fitness.
BR has already said that he will require his players to work harder than most, just like spain do when they loose the ball. it takes a massive amount of energy to chase players and get the ball back, and most players don't enjoy that part of the game. the thing is, under BR there's simply no choice. adam and andy are doomed iN MY OPiNiON )
check the stats, last term adam got us some handy points when stevie was out injured, the guy deserve some respect... i know hes slow yet hes a pass master so, he can be handy... i dont like to have small, quick and intelligent guys in our whole squad... we need players like Adam and Caroll and downing when suarez+stevie has off days, so caroll can come in handy with ball in the air... dont get over excited Hazard dint choose us and even some Gylfi went to spurs... so we need to concentrate on what we have and upgrade from there... if BR dint sign anyone this seasona dn get us to 4th place i say hes a legend... from there we can buy lucasess and neymars and hazards...
ReplyDeletewho disagree???
Maldivian red through and through since 1998
I'm not setting myself up as someone in the know...you are the one saying what BR will and won't be doing ..just read what you have written. Please show me where I have confused opinion with knowledge and assumption. I see you are still deflecting from the first question though. I ask, with no malice, what is your prediction of starts for Adam? In betting parlez they usually say ..put your money where your mouth is..not sure what the phrase is on internet forums ;-)
ReplyDeleteNo. The mistake is mine..I forgot to type Holdsworth in my response) apologies for the confusion. Still no prediction from you then?
ReplyDeleteI think the rumour it was Adam was wrote with tongue in cheek. If we want to see all the very good young players we have coming through given there chance this season then we dont need a load of new players brought in.
ReplyDeleteJohnny, I'm sorry but if you think Adam is good enough for a club as great as Liverpool then you're blinded to the truth. He simply isn't good enough, and I couldn't agree more with the guys above. You can say it's poor for us not to support our own player, but I think it's poor to accept low standards that certain players bring. And KD thought Carroll was good enough for 35 million, doesn't mean he was right in doing so. Gerrard, Lucas, Hendo, Shelvey and Suso are all better than Adam. He must be sold, simple.
ReplyDeleteAll opinions, assumptions, knowledge etc. aside, Adam's manager at Blackpool was Holloway!
ReplyDeleteThanks ikcl..that one was lost on our friend ;-)
ReplyDeletechrist u n that other fella are a right pair o tarts. Get a room.
ReplyDeleteActually, it was our performance after Adam was injured and not playing which was relegation material, our win % with him in the team was far higher. I'm not suggesting that ne wad the reason for those results, but he is a solid creating midfielder. I'd like to keep in the squad and give him another year.
ReplyDeleteCharlie Adam has the clumsiest defending I have EVER seen. I have taken to calling him "The Butcher".
ReplyDeleteCharlie Adam, LFC's "Iceman"...
ReplyDeleteReece's studs got stuck in the pitch here today, not Charlie Adam tackling that caused it.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Jamie. A one liner about Adam At the end of the article and everyone goes off key.
ReplyDeleteYou will probably find that Adam didn't play too badly alongside Lucas. It was after Lucas got injured, when Adam's performances declined.
ReplyDeleteWhen he has less responsibilities to defend he can actually focus on playing better balls. According to stats he covered more ground than anyone else in the team and was probably too knackered to pick a pass. He shouldn't be in the first team but it isn't too bad as back up which was what he was bought for.
Well if Gerrard, Lucas and Allen (assuming he comes) start we will have Shelvey, Henderson, Adam and Spearing waiting in the wings with the option of giving Suso and Coady a chance in the cups. Maybe Pacheco may get a run as well.
ReplyDeleteIf Gerrard or Allen are out injured or suspended Adam will still get his chance.
geesh talk about no sense of humour
ReplyDeleteAs far as I am concerned we have far too many so called experts giving opinions on matters they don't understand. How many years did I read and listen to people calling for the head of Lucas. Fact is it is the manager who makes the decisions and takes the responsibility. We don't know what is going on in the back ground. Often we can't appreciate the reasons behind most decisions a manager makes.
ReplyDeleteThat being said it's fine to suggest a player needs to lift aspects of their game, but to call them crap and refer to the manager's abilities based on half baked opinions is not support. Discussion is good, it's interesting but it must be tempered with the understanding that we don't know all the facts and as in the case of Lucas many get it all wrong anyway.
As fans our job is to support our club, our team and our manager - first and foremost!
I actually think we played quite well when Adam and Lucas were playing in MF in Gerrard's absence. It was after Lucas was injured, Adam was given defensive duties which we all know is not his forte.
ReplyDeleteIf we bring in Allen as well I will be quite hopeful. We have Shelvey, Adam, Hendo and Spearing to rotate when necessary for the Cup games or European games.
Wouldn't mind seeing Pacheco and Suso a bit more either.
well said AussieLFC you couldn't off put it any better
ReplyDeleteThat's in poor taste, the lad has been seriously injured and you choose it as an opportune time to make a crack at Adam? Poor poor taste
ReplyDeleteIf he was any good, Ferguson would have had him.The 'Fungusface' conned Dalglish into buying him!
ReplyDeleteconfirmed adam took down poor Gray!! (finger cross)
ReplyDeleteif no proof is ADAM does...dont say any thing...this might ruin the player image further more....all negative news may influence the referee point of view about the player in coming season....result is very bad to us....
ReplyDeleteWELL SAID!!!
ReplyDeleteThey might like him as a player, shame he's always looked shite whenever he's played for us. He must be really good in training. I guess you have to be a "professional football" person to see his qualities.
ReplyDeleteAre you a "professional football" person?
Also, don't you just love how these "professional football" people are infallible? They never make mistakes and always buy the right players.
ReplyDeleteLike when Houllier bought Diouf, Diomede,Diao, Traroe and a host of others.
Or who can forget about the brilliant players that Rafa brought to the club, like Kromkamp, Degen, Morientes, Dossena, Jossemi and a host of others.
Then, we come to Roy's signings. Jesus Wept. Apart for Meireles (who was already being signed anyway), did he sign any good players? When he was in for Konchesky, practically every Liverpool supporter was screaming "no!". We signed him and it was embarrassing. Possibly one of Liverpool's worst players. Well, it would be if it wasn't for one Christian Poulsen.
This one's my favourite, because a lot of fans weren't keen, but there was also a lot of fans who were keen.
We'd been linked with him practically every year Rafa was in charge, much to my disgust, and Roy highly rated him (having worked with him before). In fact, a few fans were glad we were getting rid of Mascherano (one of the best DMs I've ever seen) and replacing him with this twonk. Insanity!
I even had an argument with a Liverpool fan back in the Rafa days because I posted on a message board saying how disappointed I would be if we signed him. I was told that I clearly knew nothing about football and I'd obviously never seen him play and blah blah blah. A couple of years later, I was unfortunately proved right.
Lucas took his place, and he was hated by the fans back then. Not by me though, I could see his potential. On that note, It seems I've provided an example of a manager proving he knows a lot more than the fans. Though I will destroy that by saying he also backed Ryan Babel. Damn!
Get over yourself Johnny. It's a pity that you won't be able to read my response because you made your comment over 18 hours ago. I don't think it is disrespectful to criticize millionaires when they don't the their jobs correctly. The Liverpool squad for the most part failed to do the job that they were paid to do and so it not disrespectful to show them our disappointment in their performance. Just in case you forgot they actually work for the fans and not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteOur beloved Charlie Adams had a better season in Blackpool than he did in a Liverpool shirt end of story. I like many of our fans remember how much of a pain in the ass he was for the opposition while he was plying his trade at Blackpool. Holloway gave him the freedom to roam and Charlie was magnificent in that their first season up. So dominant a force was he that he easily impressed Kenny Daglish and the Scot spent a large part of FSG's generous transfer kitty on him. We all know what then happened the following season at Anfield, as he was forced to play in Kenny Daglash's system. He may have had less play-making responsibilities or just not able to adjust to the new tactics in his madien season at Anfield. He is not being singled out , the performance across the board was not that impressive and it's what ultimately caused Daglish his job.
you are idiot
ReplyDelete
