LFC 6-4 favourites to sign £10m Chelsea star. Bid...?

The imminent departures of Craig Bellamy and (possibly) Andy Carroll will leave a couple of vacancies in the Liverpool squad for strikers, and with only three weeks of the transfer window remaining, the need to sign at least one more quality striker is becoming particularly acute. Liverpool have been linked with Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge several times this year, and interestingly, the bookies have the Reds as odds-on favourites to sign the youngster this summer, ahead of regular transfer rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

According to several top UK bookmakers, including Skybet and Betfair, Liverpool are currently 6-4 favourites to sign Sturridge this summer.

In July, a Chelsea source confirmed Liverpool's interest in in the 22-year old striker, who has two years left on his current contract:

"There are a few clubs interested but Liverpool are ready to make a big move. It would be a real statement for them and they could offer the player what he wants - in terms of money and playing time."

Here are Sturridge's stats for last season:

* 13 goals/6 assists in 37 starts overall.
* League only: 11 goals/3 assists (1 goal every 206 mins/1 every 2.2 games)
* 12% conversion rate.
* 35% shooting accuracy.
* Averaged 3 shots on goal per game

Worth a bid to test Chelsea's resolve?

  2. good player but very poor at holding up play. would of prefered 15 mil spent on him instead of allen

  3. Sturridge is quite clearly a better player now than Torres is. And apparently a majority of our fans would love to have Torres back for some reason. But the same fans wouldn't want Sturridge for a fraction of the cost.

    Whatever though.

  7. After watching the pace of Borini last night and then watching him finish so well, I think we can all see what BR is trying to achieve.
    Sturridge is young enough, cheap enough and quick enough.
    I think he would be a great addition; someone with passion and personality.
    We missed that, especially last season. A player that has power, pace and presence; basically a game changer, or as close to that as possible.
    He would freshen things up and at approx £10 mill none of us could start the 'could have bought cheaper abroad' argument!

  8. Good player, got a lot to learn. He has that flair that we are missing, its a little bit wild at the moment i.e. moments of brilliance (Olympic chip goal) and moments of rubbish. But he could well develope in to a great player. I for one would love to see him at Liverpool. Plus he can play a wide role too.

  9. Give Daniel Pacheco and Adam Morgan a chance instead. If our youngsters don't get any game time then how are they going to improve?

  10. Not an overpriced Brit for once, worth a chance at that fee.
    P.S. Jamie, 6-4 is odds against, 4-6 would be odds on.

  11. Rightly said. He has very poor attitude. He is full of himself!

  12. Nope. Not a fan. I'd prefer to see that cash put towards Ramirez.

  13. Not being argumentative Plank ...but Jamie never mentioned odds ...he said bookies favorite at 6-4 ...which is correct .

  14. Yes, sign him up.  We need pace and clinical finishing in the team

  15. i dont believe that we will sign him but he's a good player but we should only buy him if we sell carroll

  16. another for the future what a future we will have come on fsg we need to sign a class striker if carrol goes we will be alarmingly short of cover imo we still have not got an out and out poacher we can create all the chances in the world but if there is no1 to put them away it is pointless ps great draw in the europa

  17. @ Jon Bach it clearly states 'that the bookies have the reds as odds on' and then quotes the odds as 6-4 if odds on then they should be 4-6

  18. I really think good football base on great team work. I don't think Sturridge  has that to offer( he's selfish with the ball and all..). He doesn't have good attitude as well. I am still rooting for Andy Carroll, hope he has an opportunity to prove himself this season.

  19. he is absolute crap.

  20. Nowhere near good enough!

  21. The fact that he's a young England international will inflate his price tag - surely Chelsea won't let him go for less than 15M, probably 20M if he goes to one of LFC, MU, Arsenal, or Spurs.  Not worth it for him.

  22. He's 22! He's not polished yet but he's shiney. Depends on how much though. Would be comfy in 433 or 442 and he'll pass the ball more than Defoe does or Ian Wright did if schooled properly by Rodgers. Ok so I've never rated Defoe, but still.

  23. 6-4 on IS 4-6, isn't it?

  24. There has to be some room for our very own!Pacheco,Morgan,Sterling,Suso etc lest they become gabbage like spearing.Personally think Suso is miles ahead of Adam & Hendo so BR should first offload spearing & Adam to give the coming generation room for penetration

  25. BR will fix him... also he played in that drab chelsea system... looked at home under Villas Boas. I thought he'd be a good signing before the window even opened. Wanted to put him in my fantasy league last season. kicked myself that i didn't for the first half of the season. then Di Matteo came and messed that decent attacking style the scum were playing.

    Good addition in my opinion! much to learn yes, but technically and physically very much a BR player... also has intelligence. I always rated sturridge... Jealous chelsea have such a talent! hopefully not for long!

    think he would be a great signing, he's young and has much to learn, but he's got so much raw talent and is one of the most exciting young players in the league, would love to see him in red

  27. Is your source george gillette? Rumours suggest hes the best a man can get. Whateva floats ur boat i guess. :-)

  28. I am so with you on this one RedBen. Sturridge is a great exciting player with a wonderful future but after glimpses of what i have seen Ramirez i am sold on him instead. He is a player of a fine caliber that will certainly improve the level of play on the squad like Luis Suarez did for Liverpool in the 2nd leg of the Gomel FC game. If anybody suffered through the first leg in Belarus then you  know that Liverpool was lucky to come away from there with a win. We did not dominate in possession like we did in the 2nd leg at Anfield. While in the first leg we saw a team with really no offensive ideas , and no real confidence on the ball in the opposition's offensive third it was a very different story in the return leg. Suarez took the ball hard to the opposition forcing them to commit themselves and  creating space for his teammates. Ramirez is very much a player in the Suarez mold than is Sturridge which is why I want us to pursue Ramirez. Both these players are blessed with speed but when it comes down to ball handling and taking people on the edge goes to Ramirez. In that respect Ramirez is a lot more like Suarez than is Sturridge. Not just because Ramirez and Suarez are both countrymen but simply there  overall ball handling skills.

  29. what kind of signal will signing Sturridge send to Morgan, Suso, Sterling, Pacheco etc

  30. id rather spend a bit more and take a gamble on adebeyor (spelling!)
    i know who also has a poor attitude at times, but the anfield faithfull could make him bit different. carroll has to stay mind.

  31. I agree its time our young talented players got some game time, or it wont be long before there starting to look around for another club where they will be given a chance, and there far to talented to allow that to happen. As i said in a previous post i believe that this season is the one Brendan has to get us through cause come next season if we have went about things in the proper manor then all the young players will be ready to step into the first team. Imagine a season where were able to promote Sterling, Suso, Coates, Morgan etc all into the first team a season where Liverpool have to spend very little money and still have a team capable of competing.

  32. Would love to see him sign for us,he's quick,skillful and know's where the back of the net is,with Suarez and Borini along side him would be a great addition to the squad.I just don't see Carrol being able to offer the same attribute's unfortunately and also now that Allen has arrived and the way Shelvey has started I think Henderson and Carrol might be looking at a lot of bench- time,which is fine with me!

    ReplyDelete
  33. totally different position to allen and as our midfield cant pass we needed a player to gel the play,i will welcome sturridge but allen was a must to anyone who likes pass and move

  34. He said "the bookies have the Reds as odds on favourites...." This is wrong 6-4 is not odds on!! Now I don't normally bother with futile nit-picking, but since the author of this "article" dedicates his life to futile nit-picking then it needs to be pointed out. Get it right if you want to pretend to be a journalist!

  35. sorry reds but daniel is not going anywhere..chelsea will not let such a obvious young talent go especially not for 10mil. sturridge is the most exciting English player right now as far as skill, pace and goals is concerned. and second  sturridge is not a selfish or lazy player theres a different having tendencies then being something. sturridge is a striker has been all his life, found himself playing out wide first full season so when he found himself in situation not sure what to do he went for his striker instinct which is too shoot. you cant jump on him for that, thats why the coach is there to help a young players develop. he doesn't have a bad attitude, playing as a  striker for team GB i saw him drop back numerous time to help the midfield and run back. i hate when one person say one thing and now everybody else jump on the band wagon but failed to look at the facts. his only 22!. I hope there's finally coaching stability at chelsea for his sake he can really develop into a all around player.

  36. was on about budget cost not positions mate. If BR can`t teach his young midfielders like Henderson, shelvy and  co how to play his system then he really can`t manage. We have a load of midfielders but  not enough strikers or wingers.
    And if you are buying  players that  have played under you with this system (2 already ) then really they should be little excuses for  poor results.

    I keep on hearing its  gonna take alot of time...

    ReplyDelete
  37. in my opinion all  our midfield can pass if allen is used as the standard.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yep, I suppose you have a point.
    But, I really don't have the time to waste on compiling that huge dossier of players from Europe that are:
    Inexpensive
    Powerful
    Pacey
    Play as if it's their last game
    Fearless
    Already known by the manager
    Already ready to be played in the system
    Willing to live in england
    Etc. etc

    But obviously you know better.....

  39. well said and i think suso also because he looks good on the ball

  40. why should we be looking at other players....andy carol is a fantastic player who never got any service the whole of last year...he clearly wants to make it at the club and we are not supporting him enough in my opinion....in the euro's he was outstanding(cos he got the service)...is it just me or is anyone else thinking the same.... why why why are we buying toooooo many midfielders.......shit if we sold all the mid fielders we have we would have a FEW quid....i am as frustrated as anyone....lets hope we have a great season YNWA !

  41. Good player but is a greedy wannabe superstar, cocky little so and so!!!

  42. I agree Adam Morgan has the heart to succeed and is a goalscorer, let the lad play!!!
