Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed last night that the Reds had a 'agreed a fee' for Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen, who was spotted in Director's Box at Anfield during the the club's 3-0 Europa league victory over FC Gomel. After the game, Steven Gerrard was asked for his views on Allen's imminent signing, and he gave the midfield maestro a ringing endorsement.
Speaking to ESPN, Gerrard said:
"It would be very disrespectful of me to talk about Joe Allen as a Liverpool player just now, but he's a very good player.
"I'm sure if we manage to get his signature he'll bring a lot to our team, but at the moment, I've got to be very careful".
Allen to Liverpool is probably the worst kept secret in football right now, and his appearance in the Director's Box last night is the strongest indication yet that a deal is almost done:
Liverpool legend John Aldridge is also excited about Allen's signing:
"I'm pretty sure that negotiations from today and tomorrow will tie him [Allen] up. It's just a bit of a formality now.
"I've spoken to Rushie about him many times and he really rates him. I think he'll only enhance Liverpool's chances of getting into the top four".

He Does look a good player, tidy and mobile. Hopefully it wont stunt Shelveys development because I really rate him.
ReplyDeleteOn another note. How nice was it to watch Liverpool dominate their opponents last night, even if they were Gomel. Its been a while!
Liverpool dominated a lot of teams last season but they just couldn't score. If hitting the post counted they'd have won the league.
ReplyDeleteliver pool might fight hard this season................need to sign gaston ramirez and fernando llorente
ReplyDeleteYeah, Stewart Downing hitting the bar on his debut (against Sunderland) after a terrific run from his own half and hitting the bar so hard that it shook for a minute - still can't forget that moment. Hope its over this year xD
ReplyDeleteAgreed but I found that alot of the domination was for nothing because we had trouble getting the ball in and around the box.
ReplyDeleteExactly my thought
ReplyDeleteShould be a good signing. But still need a bit of flair somewhere. i.e. Ramirez, or a striker. Neymar?! PHAH! I can dream.....
ReplyDeleteI dont rate him that much and think we overpayed by 5m. But if his a LFC player then ill support him from the depths of my heart
ReplyDeleteYNWA, welcome Allen to Anfield
I know everybody hates him, but Quaresma is the most talented player that we could possibly get right now. When he's off form, he obviously offers very little, but when he is on form, then he is world class.
ReplyDeleteLow risk (relatively), high reward - I'd much rather see Quaresma arrive for ~£10m, than Ramirez for ~£20m
It is hard to get rid of Liverpool's deadwood. Hope Rogers is careful in buying players. If you buy any wrong player, you will be stuck with them for a long time and can not be replaced.
ReplyDeletelove the word "enhance" in d article...
ReplyDeleteI just have a great belief in BR`s plan for us.Whoever or whatever
ReplyDeletehe gets/does he will have given it a great deal of thought.
Mark my words very soon the whole of british football will
be trying to copy Brendans very simplistic plan,he could
revolutionise the game as we know it
At least this should hopefully see the end of the Jay Spearing (who is not a natural holding midfielder either fwiw) experiment
ReplyDelete15M is way too much .... for +1M more ... we can outbid MAN U for RVP!
ReplyDeleteSeems no-one has picked up on this Tweet by the man himself?
ReplyDeleteMedical completed with Liverpool. I am now officially a #LFCplayer..☺
watching liverpool last season was like going to a strip club... get to see all the good stuff, but no happy ending lol
ReplyDeleteGet rid of adam and send Spearing out on loan to another prem league club or in europe for like 2 years or so... the boy has talent, but he's just not on the level. he needs regular game time and to be a star in another team... he seems to be stagnating at pool.
ReplyDeleteI'll support him though... he's got a pass and is not all that bad defensively... but he just needs more for me! Shelvey might be another possibility to loan out, but perhaps when Gerrard is resting, bring on the shelvey or the hendo (hendo could be loaned too).
Allen can fill in at lucas's role if lucas resting or god forbid injured
not the end... extended loan period!
ReplyDeleteno ways dude
ReplyDeleteGood luck with sorting out the big wages for him, with no money from CL football to help finance it.
