Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has give his verdict on the club's disappointing 3-0 defeat to West Brom earlier today.
Speaking to the press after the game, a clearly disappointed Rodgers said:
"I thought we had a couple of harsh decisions against us; the penalties and the sending off were very harsh, and I like Phil, he's usually a good ref for me.
"We had good control of the game and got a good rhythm in the game, but we're not going to get everything our way, so we just have to accept it.
"There's no doubt, if you're going to challenge at the top of the league the we need to score more goals. Hopefully we won't have too many days like this. Today just wasn't our day, congratulations to Steve [Clarke].
"I've got to give the players credit though. They ran themselves to a standstill. I couldn't ask any more of them in terms of commitment and effort. We'll keep looking to develop the group"
A few observations:
* Blaming the referee is futile; once again, Liverpool's finishing was atrocious, and that is the real problem right now.
* Suarez was the main culprit: he missed at least 5 gilt-edged chances, which is just not good enough. He played very well overall, but like last season, his finishing is just terrible.
* In my view, Suarez should always play out wide, and Borini should play centrally. The Uruguayan should be a provider, not the main goalscorer.
* Steven Gerrard was totally ineffective. Possibly the worst performance I've seen from the captain in years. Repeatedly gave the ball away, and offered absolutely nothing going forward.
* Don't get me started on Stewart Downing. He should never get anywhere near the first team again. He offers NOTHING, and his final ball is consistently poor. In today's game, he constantly gave the ball away and every cross was miles away from any LFC player.
* Communication in defence seemed poor. Several times, confusion reigned at the back, and that affected solidity. Two examples: Skrtel heading out for a corner under no pressure at all (after not getting a shout from Reina); Skrtel being caught in possession and giving away the penalty. Again, no warning communication from Reina.
* Martin Kelly had a poor game. I may be in the minority but I'm not a fan of the youngster; he always seems laboured, and he's not the most skilful or technical player. A squad player, not a regular.
* On the plus side, Joe Allen had a promising debut, and Reina saved a penalty for once.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm not really fussed about the defeat. There will be bad results this season, and today was one of them. The game just underlined what we already knew:
* It is going to take time to implement Rodgers' philosophy at Anfield.
* As a matter of extreme urgency, Liverpool need to sign a proven goalscorer.
It's important to take the long-view; short-termism is pointless and damaging.
My confidence in Rodgers has not been swayed in the slightest; he's still the right man for the job, and I have no doubt that things will improve.

The ref was inconsistent but the two pens and red was correct.
ReplyDeleteWell same old stories for LFC. Let just hope things getting better for LFC
ReplyDeleteI am a Lliverpool fan for just over 30 years. Liverpool are no more, well not the club that we all remember. As Liverpool FC fans should now realise we are now a mid/bottom table club. We as fans have now got to just except that we were a great club and team, and instead of referring to our past all the time like it is the present, we have to get behind our team as we always have done and hope for the best. I personally believe we will only just avoid relegation this year and unless we are sold again relegation looms as we will not be able to keep the few star players we have. Times are going to be rough and we will all feel at some stage this season what the hell we are doing supporting a club that feels , looks and plays nothing like the club we chose to support.
ReplyDeletePrediction for this season: 17th.
Repeat of last season. Crediting and appreciating players. KD did that after every game. Want to see a manager who blasts players for playing like this against a mid-table club. Looking @ the fixtures, BR needs lot of praying or he might just get a boot too soon.
ReplyDeleteI think it was just one of those games. If you look in the first half we played some fantastic flowing football and high pressure defence. We were unlucky not to score a couple as well. Despite the result, which increased after we were chasing the game from that super goal, we have to be happy with how the team is progressing and the manner in which we played today.
ReplyDeleteGee, don't exaggerate or anything (!)
ReplyDeletepathetic, bring back Woy
ReplyDeleteRodgers certainly did"nt expect this bad luck
ReplyDeletethat's why great managers are for
ReplyDeleteThis season LFC’s failure did not
begin from the today defeat against West Brom but from the very 1st
moment that FSG considered to appoint as manager either Roberto Martinez or
either Brendan Rodgers. The strategy FSG
is applying is very dangerous for the future of one of the most historic clubs
in the world and it may be the time for them to consider selling the team to an
owner who has the financial capability to invest heavily and turn the fortunes
of this club by bringing back the glory days.
There are no more excuses for them, for Ian Ayre, for any manager, for
the players. The responsibility belongs
to them and to nobody else!
Dowd was terrible today, Olsen should at least have been booked! four yellows and one red card sounds like a war!
ReplyDeleteJaime your speechless mate you usually have something insightful to say. all we have hear is a cut a paste job I saw the interview what's yur point.
ReplyDeleteMy view Rogers is up himself steve clarke played him he knew a "rodgers team will keep the ball" so what score goals that's what counts.
We had no goal threat and rodgers knowing full well we need more goals in this team starts of by dissing Carroll and replaces other forwards with the prolific Borini and big ups his attacking 4 including downing. That alone shows he is full crap
Only positive for me was Reina saving a penalty, it was after a really long time that he has saved one. Despite Liverpool having good possession in first half we were never in real control, penalties were real soft but still were right decisions. I was really disappointed with the performance of the midfield and Borini, Downing were nowhere to be seen.
ReplyDeletePoor start of the season and it could get worse if Liverpool don't improve performances massively because we have the toughest start in the league.
Downing was awful today, Suarez shud of had a hatrick, gerrard was POOR how many times he misplace a pass?? Tbh we need to pass better skrtel was poor so was Kelly,
ReplyDeletethe better team won the game and it looks like we need a very long breathe....ynwa
ReplyDelete63 years I've followed 'em but wonder as you where it is all going.
ReplyDeleteNot Good, early days but not good. the only player that seemed to have a bit of fight was Suarez, Allen looked a bit lost, should not of started, has not had enough time training with the squad. very few positives to be taken from the game.
ReplyDeletei think your being a bit harsh
ReplyDeleteHeads went down after the red and we just can't simply play our normal game. Gerrard had a horrible game and got Agger sent off. Borini was quiet and I wonder why Cole was on the field with 10 men. A good plan B would be lob the ball to Carroll and win the 2nd balls up front. Taking Lucas off will always invite trouble as the def were really struggling and slow. It just show that we are still very unsure what to do with the ball when opposition pressure us. If we are going to play high up, we must ensure we do not lose the ball like schoolboys. If we play like this with City, we are going to invite alot of problems. Our passing accuracy is rather poor especially in the final 3rd. We still haven't solve our conversion rate for goals. Suarez is still his usual self, nuisance but doesn't score. Sigh...still early for us but it's a really long season for me.
ReplyDeleteliverpools problem is and will be a decent goal scorer... and this is again not addressed.... what the heck... it is again gonna be a long bad season for us until some late recruitment
ReplyDeleteTalk about some over reacting fans. All this slating of FSG too. Sure Van Gaal might have been a better option, but its only the first game so time will tell. In regards to money tho, I keep seeing people moaning that FSG need to invest. So far this window they spent £30mil. Thats a damn lot. What world do you all live in where £30 mil is nothing!!!
ReplyDeleteLast year even looking at net spend, we still made a loss of £50mil I think. This is the real world people, you cant keep making losses like that. Then when then club nearly goes under them same fans moaning about not spending enough will blame the same owners for crippling the club. Grow up people.
Until the sending off we looked really really good. Two pens in 5mins and lossing a player will always make you look poor after.
You want crazy money go support Man city
ReplyDeleteI like to take time to consider the performance; I don't just post knee-jerk reactions to bad results.
ReplyDeleteyep, same old fickle fans. One game where we had a player sent off and gave away two pens and the end is nigh.
ReplyDeleteAs a rule of thumb we have and always do play way better against the top teams. Thats never been our problem. In fact this run of games might help us a lot
ReplyDeleteThey were correct indeed. Its worth noting tho Clarke has had most if not all his players all summer to work with. We are way behind WBA in terms of prep work
ReplyDeletethis is the worst start of liverpool fc I have ever seen.please don't give us heart attarck.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool shot themselves in the foot today mainly due to poor finishing and a woeful performance by Martin Skrtel. The defender seamed to be very confused in his decision making will I guess was influenced by Rodgers new philosophy of playing it out from the back, Hopefully Skrtel will get that confidence back.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side I thought that Borni and Suarez had a good connection and there is still time for Rodgers to bring in his own players to suit his system.
How can anyone possibly look at that game and not believe that the referee was biased!! Phil Dowd was an absolutely disgrace!! All those decisions were awful even the linesmen continually got offside decisions wrong!! When are the FA going to get a grip of these awful referees and tell them that they have got to stop taking bribes or do their job as an IMPARTIAL referee and not one with a hidden agenda!! Mr Kanwar you can come out with all the sh*te you usually do (everyone knows you are a Man Utd fan pretending to be a Liverpool fan) but we I have just witnessed the most biased refereering display in years!!
ReplyDeletenew season same shit championship next season with this muppet
ReplyDeleteDe ja vu?
ReplyDeleteCome on J sounding like a superfan apologist for BR...sound familiar. I heard you gunning down KK hardcore last year. he made excuse for the players but as you see nothing new post much most managers cover the player BR was no different. What can a manager do when stevie is as poor as he was today, suarez will miss tonnes of chances nothing new. Bar Messi or ronaldo I dont expect any other to deliver end product when the ball is at their feet. You make me laugh we had loads of good performances that you felt KK was the reason it did not come through what now?
ReplyDeleteI bet Rodgers is he left Swansea for this.
ReplyDeleteI saw Stanley Kubrick's The Shining yesterday night, alone. Its considered one of the scariest movies ever made, but it was nothing compared to the absolute terror I felt during this match. Saw all 90 agonising minutes of it.
ReplyDeleteBring back Kenny. Not so easy is it?
ReplyDeleteits early give the man a chance we will c were we r at xmas
ReplyDeleteCrikey is there an actual script of delusion, for post match interviews, lying around at Anfield that KK and BR are reading off?
ReplyDeleteBeginning to think Suarez, despite his goals in mighty Holland, isn't a reliable finisher. A pity that, considering the bemusing high pedestal he has been put up on.
ReplyDeleteVery early days. So no need to panic just yet, in relation to this new era.
Give over. Dalglish had been charge for over a year before I started criticising him. Rodgers has had ONE GAME, so with all due respect, don't talk nonsense.
ReplyDeleteAll LFC managers deserve support in their first season, and I have *never* attacked any LFC manager during their first 6 months in charge. Why should I change that now?
I think you are totally lost here.
ReplyDeleteI bet you that Allen will be motm on LFC official, he was like the only player doing his job properly!
When Rodgers was in charge of Swansea last season they never won away in the league until january.
ReplyDeleteHaha. If only Jack Torrance could show up at Anfield with axe and go looking for Stewart Downing...
ReplyDeleteEmbarrassing start to say the least! However, it is way too early to start using the word relegation. A few things to mention, however:
ReplyDelete1. BR's approach to the transfer market has been questionable. Passing up the chance to buy Siggurdson, only to pay twice as much for Allen, who wasn't an essential buy. At the same time eroding the average height of the team which will continue if Carroll leaves.
2. I believe Borini will prove to be a decent acquisition, but we're still short of a decent striker. Most top teams should have at least 4 and Suarez is still misfiring for some unknown reason.
3. BR's mouth got much airtime pre-season, so now everyone knows what the Liverpool approach will be, the only way to succeed is to implement it perfectly.
4. BR's post-match comments are food for thought for those who were glad to get rid of Dalglish, because to summarise BR's thoughts....we were unlucky.
5. Will Nuri Sahin still be interested
6. On a positive note, Reina looked very sharp at times.
Worst opening day for a while, though I felt Borini deserved a pen in the first half was it? when he was hit in the face but at the start we maintained a excellent amount of possession but our high pressing left us very open at the back.
ReplyDeleteOur defense was our bright spot last season, now we have problems in defense (probably not being used to pushing up so high) and poor chance conversion. Let's not panic though, we all knew it would take time Downing should sit on the bench and give our new winger a chance (or Sterling which ever Rodgers thinks is best). Joe Cole went off injured very early, but he was probably only going to be a bit part player anyway.
On the bright side I one punched a fly to death while it was airborne.
I'm a Liverpool fan and all I can say is the team is a joke. Liverpool are finished. End off.
ReplyDeleteBring Back Kenny? No thanks. And who said anything about this season being 'easy'? That is not Rodgers' view at all - he's repeatedly stated that it's going to be a very tough job to turn LFC around. I doubt many fans think/thought it was going to be easy either.
ReplyDeleteC VRAI K L ARBITRE A GACHR NOTRE MATCH MAIS NOS JOUEUR MANK OSSI D ENVIE C DECEVANT LIVPOOL VAUT MIEUX K SA
ReplyDeleteAllen played pretty well....He's a major step up from the likes of Henderson & Adam. Downing as usual was pathetic....Borini was non-existent. Must say Carroll played positively fighting for every ball. Gerrard needs to be benched every now n then...he didn't even backtrack when he lost the ball. Totally unacceptable. If Liverpool r to win there better be no sacred cows. Either perform or sit ur ass on the bench. As for Old Moe sorry...Slow Moe...I mean Joe Cole...enough said! We should cut our losses n let him go play in Qatar or China!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with King Khong...Suarez should play on the right wing..Borini/Carroll Center and the new kid Oussama be given a try out left...He MUST be better than Downing! Y is he still in a liverpool shirt? Amazing!!!
me? same as always. support LFC no matter what the result is. that is a true supporter.
ReplyDeleteI poured my frustrations out on lfcopinion.in . Ah well, its going to be one long season. again. I think we will get better over the season. 37 games still to go.
ReplyDeleteTHE APOCALYPSE HAS COME!
ReplyDeleteWe were playing well, then conceded a goal and got a player sent off, changed the game. Jeez its as if none of you guys actually watch football. This happens when it isn't your day. This game does not define the bloody season. Downing was poor. I look forward to seeing what Assaidi can do, and truly hope we sign Sahin. Some patience and perspective needs to be called for here.
we r in a learning curve.also like brendans response.positive unlike hodgson.but he has to improve perfomance and fast.and players need to come back from goals down and not implode like they did today.lastly, there was no patience.that was no tiki taka!
ReplyDeleteKnowing Downing though he'd probably be in the wrong place at the right time to be in any serious danger from Jack...
ReplyDeleteIt is honestly ludicrous that fans would even comprehend calling for a managers head after the first game. Especially when he has had such a disrupted summer and has only been with the entire squad a couple of weeks. Shame on you guys! I am embarrassed that we are affiliated with the same club TBH.
ReplyDeleteCatch a fly with a pair of chopsticks Mr Miyagi style and then we'll talk.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed to me as if Allen wanted the ball more but Gerrad wasn't passing the ball to him enough. Overall, Gerrard was poor, but so were other players. When Carroll was deployed, we looked a better team and did much more quality pressing than other players.
ReplyDeleteRef decisions were poor as usual and the fact that every manager we had since Rafa is lamenting referee decisions is now starting to become a suspicious affair. Are we recruiting paranoids or something is really on?
Are you serious? You call yourself a fan, 'fans' like you are to blame just as much as the poor play on the pitch forthe decline of the club. 17th your a joke over those 30 years how many times have you been to anfield. I didnt chose the club i was born to it.. ynwa
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen the game but it's quite simple we need to forget about today and move on its gone...we all know losing to west brom isn't good enough but I really believe in this manager we do need a Striker for sure because Suarez can't have all the pressure put on his shoulders everybody needs to chip in downing Gerrard borini even joe Allen...I am gutted but I do still think we can do something this year the guy who said we will finish 17th has gone way too far...it's giving Brendan a chance and it seems to me like from what people have said it reminds me if a game last season and things can't change this quick...I'll admit 3-0 is hard to take though
ReplyDeleteAh how noble 6mnths from now we will be were we were last season.
ReplyDeleteHere's a prediction 5pts from first 10 games. As they say it takes 10 games to see how the season will pan out. No doubt we will play good ball however we have lost the hunger to win games to busy worrying about other issues and I feel this BR philosophy crap is a hinderance that is stalling the inevitable. Do a manc or manu buy good players end of!
Oh, and we were in general extremely slow with the ball, resulting in us diluting the dizzying effect a quality passing game has to offer.
ReplyDeleteAm sure our first win will come on 29th September against Norwich away. Before that we got 4 EPL matches against Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal all @Anfield and Sunderland away. And with the attack force that they have, will definitely loose. I have no doubt that Carra-Skrtel combination next match against City will cause havoc. Man City will win 3-0, Arsenal 3-0, Man Utd 2-1. We might just draw against Sunderland away. But I at least hope we win against Norwich away. Geez, bad days ahead. I still don't know why we spent 30mn odd on Joe Allen and Borini. We could have lived without additional midfielder or a bargain. I was shouting my lungs out for Michu@2mn only. Why borini was bought? Sterling is 10 times better than borini on right side. 10mn wasted. FSG really got brains, thank god. If they provided with another 100mn, we would have been doomed. Full swansea squad would have been playing today. Swansea finished below liverpool when LFC had their worst season in years and Swansea had their best. BR needs to get it right when signing players. Just because he knows somebody doesnt make him automatically a good player. 30mn should have invested in a lethal striker. If my predictions mentioned above goes right, I see mass transfer request from Agger, Skrtel, Reina, Suarez at deadline date.
ReplyDeleteI think it is unfair to link the tow seasons in anyway except for the players we ended up buying for ridiculous money last year! The man has his right to give his opinion and deserves his time to install his ideas.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I believe the second penalty was harsh, but I blame Agger for the first one. All in all the whole team contributed to our failure today, this is a long transition program and everyone needs o stick together.
That said, my worst fears are playing both city and arsenal without Agger! And Gerard is showing some weakness, which might be just for one game I hope.
this is only the beginning of my training during frustrating liverpool games.
ReplyDeletesterling is better than borini on Left side I mean.
ReplyDeleteIf those players you mention want to leave then let them leave. If LFC lose the next three games it still won't make a difference to me; Rodgers is the right man for the job, I can feel it, and sometimes, things need to get worse before they can get better.
ReplyDeleteAs an analogy, I'd compare this to basic training in the Marines. The instructors break you down to nothing, then build you back up again. That's what will probably happen at LFC under Rodgers.
Bad Result. Bad 2nd Half. But the end of Liverpool? Hell NO!
ReplyDeleteWonder if playing Suarez on the right, Borini on the left and Carroll in the centre would have a positive impact?
After 1 league match? I wonder if your boss thought you were so good on your first day! You probably called for woy's head too.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion gerrard should have rested , instead shelvey should have started ... because he looked fit and look was in good shape & form.... (but its rodgers decision & (fans pay money to see their star players play ))
ReplyDeletepositves to take .... joe allen played well.....
(felt skrtel and agger disturbed by transfer talkes ).
what is the kind of growth you expect from shelvey... i personally rate him high .. may be ,not swift as gerrard.. but he always look great in possession only makes sensible passes.. comfortable with both feet....
pls your thoughts on hendersons situation also
Liverpool's next 4 games are Man City, Arsenal, Sunderland and Man United. My prediction is that BR will end up with 1 point after 5 games, and the heat will be well and truly on.....
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing that's changed in the team since BR took over. BR's managed to get a few names in, but it's still 'same sh!t new day' to me.
God help us fans through these difficult times.
Oorah BR! Sterling work today then...
ReplyDeleteLiverpool played good, i am not gona throw any trash at RODGERS, he did the best out of liverpool, YA FOR D AGGER SEEMS LIKE he is still thinking about BARCELONA, M skrtel poor, GERRARD is he really getting old lol, borini he seems scared or may be he had butterflies in his stomach that he was giving away balls, JOE ALLEN DID GOOD,
ReplyDeletewether like it or not we are finishing 4th ...under KENNY NEVER, but under rodgers we will......and yaa tello and nuri sahin will make a differene, and we had signed heerenven winger,
LET THEM GO?? And sign more players like Borini?? Was he even playing today? Why spend 30mn on players who won't win matches for us???? Allen is no doubt good but we already have two good CM in SG and LL. Shelvey, Adam, Henderson, Spearing, Suso can all fight for 3rd place. We could have survived without him unless he was Xavi or something. And now we also want Sahin? Are we gonna play 6 midfileders like spain?? Rodgers needs to look at players who are proven and match winners. I would have rather invested 20mn on Alonso (If he wished to return considering recent rumors) and 10 on Demba Ba who is at least better than Borini. Why would Roma sell him hours after signing him without charging any extraordinary premium transfer fees?? He is not at all special. We only have few quality players left and I would like them to have reason to stay at LFC after 6th 5th and 8th positions in last few season. We are already beaten up, how far should we go down according to you? Relegation?
ReplyDeleteThe season just started and we are talking about a relegation prospect? We all know Liverpool will go through a learning curve. It, the learning curve, has to happen at some point in time. Better now than never.
ReplyDeleteYes, we should look forward but win or lose, I will always be a Liverpool supporter. I have to agree that it might be better for Borini to be the main attacker and Suarez the provider. He needs too many chances to score although he played very well. The first half reminds me of Arsenal, an inability to score. The 2nd half was more deja vu with the same old same old.
Downing was terrible. For a wide man, he has problems crossing decent ball in, the most basic skill needed for this position. But, I still believe in Brendan getting the job done. For starters, we need to play shorter passes rather than the longer ones. I thought player movement was a tat too slow at times.
Yes, let them leave. Any player who doesn't have the stomach for a fight should leave, and only players who are 100|% committed should stay.
ReplyDeleteGetting Suarez more involved in the game is vital, Liverpool just could never set up to penetrate West Brom on the attack. Gerrard at times wanted to find Suarez, but he was choosing the wrong pass. Suarez is completely one touch player, he even picks it up in midfield and makes something happen. Allen disappeared in this game, just after the sending off, which was game over at that point of the game. Liverpool are really lacking another top player, to play alongside Suarez, he needs to be fed passes and he will in turn feed passes to other players.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic analogy, here is a clip of 400m legend Micheal Johnson talking about the state of uk athletics in 2006 and how the system needed to ripped apart and rebuilt in order to achieve success...time is the key.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-OoYazM4s0
apologist how sad! You give JK rowling a go for story telling and it all ends happy ever after....
ReplyDeleteGreat video. Thanks for that. I may even use it in an article as that is precisely what I'm talking about. LFC needs to start from scratch, and that means things get worse before they eventually get better. as Johnson says, the system is broken; small adjustments are not going to cut it; wholesale changes are needed, and that is Rodgers' plan.
ReplyDeleteClarke's knowledge of the team's weaknesses was cruelly exposed today. He knew what to do from the very moment this fixture was set.
ReplyDeleteRodgers should have expected this and kept his cards close to his chest rather than speak to the media about every darn thing he's planning to do.
Ok, let them fight and commit 100% while we continue to offer them nothing. Kuyt, Bellamy, Aqua, Maxi better than Borini and Allen ANY FREAKING DAY.
ReplyDeleteI'm not wasting any more time on this pointless discussion. You clearly cannot see the wood for the trees. It's impossible for someone to be an 'apologist' for a manager when said manager has had only ONE league game in charge. Get a grip.
ReplyDeleteKuyt, Bellamy, Aqua and Maxi - you mean four players who helped Liverpool finish outside the top four three years running, and contributed to the club's worst league performance since the 1950s. Right, I see your point.
ReplyDeletetotally agree with dustovgenius think mid table at best but we must all support the team no matter what rodgers imo will not last the season not his fault but life is life jaimie will call for his head his parents fsg will listen i will be banned for posting but we will never walk alone
ReplyDeletehahaha thats very true. Today some Albion players were giving him time and space.. its as if they knew that he would be less dangerous if given that time and space, and he didn't disappoint them
ReplyDeleteGood Analysis Jamie... For me Kelly is a sack, he is learning from Carragher... just kick it away. Kelly offers us nothing n looks retarded on the ball...
ReplyDeleteGive Saurez a break, he is by far the best liverpool playa... but we shd put him in out wide or in gerrard place. We got a goal scorer = Andy Carroll!
Renia needs a dam Boot, his been hopeless last season, he is always looking wrong footed... i think his getting to clever for his own good, trying to guess the strike! he shd just stick to the basics n make his move when the shot is taken!
Downing doesn't deserve my time! We need Andy Johnson n Dempsey... that will complete the side!
it's still early days, we got some great days ahead... We got a good chance to finish 4th...
- Arsenal lost 30 goals in RVP (Who's is a heartless Knob to join Manure)
- Chelsea, Matteo going to have it tough now that the romance is over
- Spurs will need time with AVB. AVB is a risk...
- Newcastle we find it difficult, 2nd season syndrome for their strikers!
we can get in there!
YAWN!!! oops I mean YNWA!!!! :)
Please don't try and second guess me. The only manager I've ever publicly argued should be sacked is Benitez, and that was 6 years into his reign. Prior to that, I never called his head.
ReplyDeleteMore like Chicken Tikka than "Tikka Tikka eh, the spineless bunch of coward chokers, they are a DISGRACE to the shirt!
ReplyDeleteYup, speaks his mind too much. As fans, we definitely want to be in the know, but I'd rather be ignorant if it also means the opposition will be too.
ReplyDeleteGood lord. Ok
ReplyDeleteSeems like media friendly Rodgers is losing his cool, blasting referee left right centre. But u Jaimie was complaining that Kenny was doing the same last season too.
ReplyDeleteGet used to it Brendan. It is Liverpool now, so the refs are seen things different.
ReplyDeleteTold you Jaimie that sacking Kenny will be a bad idea. The alternative is worse.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I did not expect anything much this season. With all due respect to BR - he's a nobody in football. And comparing Allen to Xavi and Iniesta was embarrassing to sy the very least. There is NOT one world class player in our team. Forget Suarez - he's just a whole lot of ineffective trickery and he spends too much energy complaining and arguing. I'll always support LFC but her we're not talking about loyalty and love for the team. We're talking football and to be onset we're a joke. Even WBA (wow) had more football sense. We did not even force their goaler to make one save - even in our fantastic first half.
ReplyDeleteLet's just admit it - we're have beens in the world of football.
Rodgers did not lose his cool at all. He just gave his view. He wasn't rude and belligerent like Dalglish
ReplyDeleteBrendan Rogers is a NEW manager unlike Daglish he doesn't have a huge reputation with the Liverpool faithful (I use the word faithful as the word fans has been confused with idiots who judge a manager after 1 game) as a new manager he has a new system to play and a new squad he needs to adjust to his system this takes time. BR's first game was against Steve Clarke a man who worked with Liverpool longer then BR so no surprise we didn't win this game, shocked by the scoreline yes, but poor defending and bad play in the final third led to it. If our season is to be a good one then after this defeat our team needs to look at itself and decide how they'll come back from it unless we've players who's heads will drop and keep going until they can move on in December the point is Football is a Team Game the manager can get us so far, the team can get us so far AND the fans can get us so far. So be a faithful fan and not just a couch supporter the rest us up to those we cheer on.
ReplyDeleteJaimie, I agree with almost everything in your article.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't help but remember last season's opener v Sunderland when Richardson somehow avoided a straight red, when Suarez was clean through. Dowd was the referee.....
Dowd seemed eager to penalise Liverpool today, while letting Ridgewells body check on Borini go unpunished and not producing yellow cards for Ollson's elbow to Suarez's throat and some other OTT challenges.
I feel Dowd often sides against Liverpool.
But, can't argue with pens or Agger's red.
Sacking Benitez is looking worse and worse every season... Still, I'm hopeful that Rodgers will stop the rot after a few more games in charge.
ReplyDeleteSacking Dalglish was not a bad idea; it was necessary, and one league defeat doesn't change that.
ReplyDeleteI hope FSG, Jaimie K and all who asked for Steve Clark and Kenny to leave last season , now see what a disaster the team is. Brendon has no clue whatsoever. I did warn you all that the alternative to Dalglish would be worse.
ReplyDeleteNo, he lost his cool. His "blasted"the referee, showing raw emotion.
ReplyDeletejaime you have your pets who can do no wrong everybody is entitled to there opinion br tikka takka more like macca pacca it pains me to say it but that was abysmel today and you called for kds head well we got what you wanted and today we got what brs team deserved a pasting plain and simple it could have been10 the fact that it was his 1st league game in charge makes it all the more worrying you would have thought the players would have wanted to impress saw photos of last training session all the players stood with arms crossed bad body language no karma .... thats who our next manager should be chris kamara at least we would have something to smile about lol
ReplyDeleteIn fact, why should he even blame the referee? His team player so poorly. Surely he should look at his own performance first.
ReplyDeleteAt least last season, the team was more organised at the back and created more chances, played good football. This is worse than last season. A total disaster.
ReplyDeleteReina was left exposed so many times and the defence was shredded to pieces.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible to 'blast' someone without losing your cool. I watched the interview; did you? Rodgers did not lose his cool, so stop trying to (dishonestly) say that he did.
ReplyDeleteDefence was totally non-existent . Of course, the defence coach specialist was sacked and is now seating in West Brom's bench. Steve Clark's wide smile towards Rodgers was great to see!
ReplyDeleteYes, because one game is enough to condemn a manager. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the defence was so organised at the back last season that Liverpool lost 14 games in the league.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, Spurs lost 2-1 :-)
ReplyDeleteYou can see the quality already with this game. And its agst West Brom. Its not even agst Manc clubs.
ReplyDeleteAgree most part of it.
ReplyDeleteShow me how to blast someone without losing your cool. Or maybe the word you used is too sensationalistic and dishonest
ReplyDeletehere is my understanding..johnson should have played in the RB role with robinson in the LB..give the kid a chance.allen was great today..stevie g was terrible he gave the ball away more time than spearing does in one game..skrtel should have been sold for the 20 mill that city offered and downing should be swapped for dempsey..sterling shouldnot started because that back four was just to big for him..carroll should have been the CF with suarez and borini along side him..people here that called for the sacking of KK and rafa are the same people asking for them back..get a grip..Shankly's first game in charge was a 4-0 loss to cardiff. so please give rodgers time..rome wasnt built in one day
ReplyDeleteMate I totally agree with you. Guys don't get wound up by some Man U & Chelsea & Arsenal fans pretending to be LFC fans posting stuff like that's it Mid table at best, 17th etc etc. Settle down people it's only the first game of the season! Please it's ONLY the FIRST game CALM Down Please....
ReplyDeleteLOL that is laughable! Dowd has been good to us at times over the years! It's not a conspiracy people!
ReplyDeleteYou really think the English lads that KK spent millions on was worth it? What a joke!
ReplyDeleteRodgers talked the talk all summer, but when the crunch came, he couldn't even crawl let alone walk.
ReplyDeleteI know it's only one game, but it was 'winnable' and we now have some really tough ones coming up.
Coming out for the second half today I expected a bit of fight, but there was NOTHING. 60% possession is utterly pointless if you do nothing with the ball. At least Kenny's team entertained and showed a bit of fight, we just lay down today. And to everyone who said he was just "papering over the cracks", at least it was nice bloody paper......
Pathetic and spineless. I feel thoroughly dejected.
Can't wait for City though !!!!!!
Piss off then mate! Go support Chelsea or another mercenary club! I'm hating the negativity, anyone would think its four months ago not round 1 of a new season!
ReplyDeleteUnlike a lot of people who slunk away after the 3rd......... :(
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with ya more!
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to use that analogy, we should really have sold everyone bar Lucas, who was injured.
ReplyDeleteBorini is a tidy player. But we need a bit more than "tidy".
i wonder if the game would have been different if Enrique was playing and GJ on the right. I think we did ok but WBA was just better on the day.Joe Allen was our star player for today
ReplyDeleteAnd Suarez got a yellow, presumably for being Suarez.....
ReplyDeleteThe way I see it all the way from Aus is that people need to chill the f*** out and support the team and get positive! This negativity from some supporters is a joke and embarrassing and they should pull there heads in! We need to be supportive as a collective over the world and support whoever is the Manager of Liverpool Football Club no matter what!
ReplyDeleteThe last couple of years has been terrible no doubt but to constantly abuse the same players and blast the manager when something doesn't go right is childish and the players will feel that pressure and never improve! It's the first game of the year for crying out loud!
Either be a "TRUE" fan or piss off!
Too the fans who have been positive on this page great work!
Bring on Man City!
YNWA
Can't believe some of the comments on here, fickle is not a strong enough word. I thought we played well up till the sending off but that's football it doesn't always go your way. I have a feeling Brendan will get it right in time, at the very least he deserves a chance before writing him off after one game so be patient peeps!
ReplyDeleteFor all you stats lovers, it's not all gloom and doom:
ReplyDeletePassing success 89%
Possession 60%
Passes 521 v 345
Most important stat - score: 0-3
Just didn't go well today for us. Calling for BR to go? No, that's just stupidity.
ReplyDeleteSome good points; We had 88.9% pass accuracy with more passes than last season, so that is setting in. Allen looked as good as I thought he would, and had 97% accuracy in the first half! Unfortunately, Suarez was off target, Gerrard was a bit poor, along with Borini, Kelly and Downing.
Regarding the decisions by the referee, the first penalty was a penalty, though maybe not a red. The second was a foul by Long for simulation techincally, Skrtel had the ball and had long fall over infront of him, from what I saw. I also don't understand how Suarez gets a yellow for shouting, yet Olsson gets nothing for at least 2 clear body checks. There's no conspiracy though, just bad refereeing.Looking forward to Thursday, pick it up in time for Sunday and a win over Citeh!
new season same old same old relegation places by xmas totally disorganised school boys gonna be a long season championship next season were rodgers belongs thing is liverpool are going with him.
ReplyDeleteWith a remark like that I'd be surprised if Young Pete has had a job at all Barraob1!
ReplyDeleteHodgson would have been laughing to the cows came home yesterday, after copping the abuse from some LFC fans a couple years back!
I see the comments regarding things getting worse before they get better and I need to ask why?
ReplyDeleteWe have just off-loaded 4 seasoned internationals with years of know how and experience. They have been replaced so-far by 3 no bodies. We dont need potential we need quality.
We dont need excuses either please BR. We have just been thumped 3-0 by the mighty WBA. Last season we were nearer to the relegated teams than to the teams at the top and we have appointed an inexperienced manager and apparently not supported him with funds to improve the situation.
3 years ago we would have attracted a world-class proven manager and these new players would have been lucky to get a game with our reserves. City will be shaking in their boots!
Where did it all go wrong?
He's back ! ! " OUR DM " OUR BACK FOUR PROTECTOR " " THE DESTROYER " how we've missed him , and proper footballers sat on the bench watching . The mind boggles
ReplyDeletehate to say it but. same old story. the writing is on the wall already. 'transition'! seems like we've been in transition since the prem league started. just an excuse, change the manager buy a bit more time until the next change.
ReplyDeletelike it or not only senior RAFAEL BENITEZ can bring lfc back where we were in europe!!!! lfc under his management was a force in europe!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wrong statement I know as I have been a military instructor. These guys are not in basic training!!, they are fully trained professionals. In the military it will take you a little time to mold your crew/squad or flight depending on what is your missionand capabilities of your personnel. The mission today was to win and take 3 points; the mission was a faliure. Some missions do fail, but you make sure that for the next mission you learn by your mistakes. Today we saw that the current team will leak goals, rogers past says they will. You do not win games by passing backwards or trying to maintain the status Quo. In the military you have the OODA loop Observe, orientate, decide and Act.West Brom today had the OODA loop in perfect sync and acted to the state of play before liverpool. If you want a military analogy look at syria, the opposition forces are smaller, have little fire power but are using gorrilla tactics; Basically using their strengths to come up to an even level. If we are to succeed the leadership has to b right, excuses are to be withdrawn and you ensure that from that moment the mistakes in the last mission are not repeated. BR needs time but he also needs to ensure that he has the right ideas to overcome our failings, otherwise mutiny will entail!
ReplyDeleteAgree with your summary generally. I did think Allen had some good moments, but was also overwhelmed on a few occasions. Also, Lucas looked very rusty and Gerrard's display was ineffective, this contributed to our lack of control throughout. The midfield really needs to function in this system, I think it will come in time, hopefully soon!
ReplyDeleteIn fairness to Reina I'm fairly sure he gave Skrtel a shout in regard to the first incident you highlighted. He also remonstrated with him directly after it.
should have gone for rvp .man ure got him cheap 24 mill and howard webb on a seasons loan
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with you that often but for once you actually wrote a decent article. These feckless fans just annoy me, one game and they are are asking for BR's head and stringing up FSG (the people who saved us from bankruptcy). Guys understand one think Kenny blew the money away we are not in the CL we cannot buy big names and big names do not always win you games, it's about team work and once the team gels I am sure we will see a different LFC this season.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm guessing that alot of the people that are overreacting are the very ones that havn't really followed Liverpool during the pre-season, which by all accounts was very promising. It was certainly enough to suggest that this regime is definitely worth supporting far beyond the first day of the season, regardless of anything!
ReplyDeletei have one final comment, benitez took liverpool from nothing to european champions, suso, sterling, shelvey, lucas, agger, skrtel, caragher (playing well) where all his doing. Benitez with 170mill would have made us world beaters and that is a fact. right mananger wronng owners, currently we have right owners and wrong manager
ReplyDeleteI think its a little too soon to assume he is the wrong manager only time will tell, but as for the financial backing FSG have given KK and even the money Rodgers has had so far i do believe Benitez would have made us champions but unfortunately we will never know now so i dont think theres any point bringing up names of the past managers, its all about the future.
ReplyDeleteThough i do think AVB would have been a better gamble then Rodgers as lets be honest Rodgers is a big big gamble.
Absolutely spot on article. Fans need to understand this is a long term project end of and lots to sort out behind the scenes. Also remember shanks lost his first league game 4.0.
ReplyDeleteSorry but you are joking with that talk! God one result and BR is just starting out! It is going to take time and we will come and get better! We need another striker and one or two who can play in the wide position.
ReplyDeleteWe have to be patient and that you are not doing. The owners are sensible not like those other complete w***ers we had! They are building for the future just like they have done with the Boston Redsocks! Started building step by step!
Jesus reading some of the stuff on here and other sites it is depressing and makes me understand that the most of you have no knowledge about the game.....:)
Simple - FSG. The problems that occurred under KD are well documented, so no need to go over them. But my feeling has always been that the reason why BR was employed was not because he could usher in a great, new era at Liverpool, but because he could save FSG money. Hence why the only real candidates for the managerial post were Martinez and Rodgers. AVB, Benitez and anyone else you care to name would have expected big name signings.
ReplyDeleteI've said it time and time again, recent history has taught us that there's 2 routes to success in the EPL, the big money route (a la Man City and Chelsea), or the stability route (a la Arsenal and Man Utd). Unfortunately, FSG has chosen neither.
Unfortunately, we are stuck in a situation where LFC has no money to attract the best players, a manager who lacks the reputation to attract the best, no recent history of note and no Champions League Football. These factors cannot be remedied overnight. I still hope that we can sneak a Champions League spot. This might be all it takes to change our fortunes.
yes but it was against WBA we should beat teams like them for fun
ReplyDeleteque??
ReplyDeleteare you sure you didnt argue for dalglish to be sacked.
ReplyDeleteFrom nothing? Come on, that's not really true, is it? Typical Benitez revisionism. Houllier won the treble in 2001; re-established LFC in Europe, and qualified for the CL in 2004, which allowed Benitez the opportunity to win it in 2005.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Liverpool regressed in the league in Benitez's first season, and finished 5th, failing to qualify for the CL.
Benitez did some great things for LFC but let's not exaggerate.
Totally agree
ReplyDeletethe kind of football BR is looking team to play, needs a playmaker who can hold up the ball up the pitch and give through passes, not like SG who releases the ball early in one touch, and most of the times he tries to pass it to suarez, which makes suarez to control the ball more, rather than letting him focus more on finishing duty. we are not able to keep the ball for long in the midfield, every move turnsout to make the ball reach suarez early where he has to control the ball and get past the defence. And the guys were not involving Allen much who seems to control the ball better
ReplyDeleteGive the man a A season at least before we judge and shoot him, first game bad day at the office , learn , move on and improve YNWA
ReplyDeleteNo matter what you say about FSG they really do need to buy a out and out striker before window closes as we cannot score goals they also need an attacking coach as we have struggled with this problem since Rafa was sacked
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree with you more. At this level football matches are so very finely tuned that any subtle or wilful manipulation by a referee - usually passed off as a mistake - will change the game. In turn, games have an affect on a team's confidence, thereby form and their season. The sad thing in this game was that Dowd wasn't even subtle.
ReplyDeleteEverything these days is performance-related, from school league tables to top managers, CEOs and politicians. In that context, why is a referee's performance not similarly judged? In my opinion, it's time for the EPL to have it's own referees. Football clubs can be trusted to employ their own referees and reward or punish them based on their performance. The FA should only get involved in case a decision is appealed.
I realise that this would be a revolutionary step but the FA can no longer be trusted. Every game of note - and I'm talking about all EPL clubs - is remembered for some controversial refereeing decision, whilst the spineless MSM put it down to a bad day at the office for the ref.
I'm beginning to wonder whether football is fixed - to a sufficient degree - by the authorities. To paraphrase a well-know quote: once might be an an accident, twice a coincidence, but every week a bad, match-changing, decision by a ref reeks of a conspiracy.
If we are going to support the manager (and we should) surely we should also support his choice of players. Back the manager back his team there will be many more bad days but let's build
ReplyDeleteDustovgenius ; and you call yourself a fan? GTFO and come back when you have some common sense, or give yourself a reality check.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shock.. we appoint some no nothing small time manager from a small time club and then proceed to get our a$$ handed to us.. gee.. who would have guessed! The clueless lemmings just don't get it..
ReplyDeleteThe 'response' I heard was that he "expects a lot more days like this" !!!!
ReplyDeleteCould someone tell him that we are Liverpool FC, please, ffs? We shouldn't be rolling over to the likes of WBA, whatever the circumstances.
Last year you were saying he was all bite.......
ReplyDeleteSo. It's ok for BR to let things get worse before they get better, but not Kenny Dalglish? A 3-0 away defeat, by your logic, is a mere tactic in a masterplan. God, i hope you are right.
ReplyDeleteDouble standards and hypocrisy. You wanted Kenny gone purely because he backed Suarez. And you don't like Suarez. End of.
Interesting post, but I think you may mean 'guerilla'....
ReplyDeleteGorilla tactics is something Dom Joly may do to disorientate the opposition.
It's easy to say, mate, but if you had just paid £39 to get in, plus train fare, then had to queue for a pint served in a dirty glass in THE most ridiculously under-staffed boozer in Smethwick, then you would be a little cheesed off too.
ReplyDeleteAll we ask is a bit of heart and a bit of pride, and there was very little of that on show today.
HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that we won't keep the faith. I just hope it isn't blind hope, because to see what the team has become since Rafa left is depressing.
For God's sake there is alot of immature posters on here. Knee Jerk reactions, blind support for KK (with all due respect to the legend), fickleness...you'd think you were reading comments after the 10th loss in the first 20 games! To those KK supporters, please elaborate on what he would have done yesterday to avoid that result. We were in a similar situation against spurs last year, but then lost ANOTHER player to a red card (Skrtel) and got thumped 4-0. Henceforth, there is no evidence to suggest that Dalglish's authority would have avoided this. Unfortunately, Rodgers' can't control red cards and penalties, but he is devising a very long term project, not a short term one. I think any team is goooooooone once they're red carded after already conceding an impossible wonder goal
ReplyDeleteThe team was set up poorly from the start. The right and left back were poor today and the centre backs are still in preseason mode. Playing Johnson on the left was a poor decision. No doubts he would have played there before, but he is already poor at defending on the right, what chance on the left. Cara should have played there, although he would not attack much. At least the defense would be solid. Next Martin Kelly was slow and woefull as rightback. if Johnson plays, he must play in his rightful place as he is neither intelligent nor skillful enough to play other positions. As for Stevie G, you can see clearly that Stevie is not a Brandan Rodgers player. Stevie's passing is not accurate and he gave the ball away almost every time he touched the ball in this game. Shelvey should have replaced him, captain or not after half time. Borini was nevous the whole game with Johson offering no support at all when he received the ball. Only consollation was that at least Joe Allen was playing well and his influence will be greater with more games in the belt. as for Downing, the sooner we are rid of him the better. Perhaps playing in the reserves for half a season would improve him. Wish the new guy Ousama Asaidi is quality. The worse would have been if Adam and Henderson had played.
ReplyDelete*sigh* It is not double standards at all. There is a major distinction here:
ReplyDelete* Dalglish was in charge for 18 months. BR has had ONE LEAGUE GAME in charge.
* Dalglish spent 100m+ on players, and he had plenty of time to implement his ideas.
* Rodgers has had a couple of months; the possibility of things getting worse is not something he well 'let' happen - he can't stop it. The club has been in a major malaise since 2009, and to change that will take time. That means there will be bad periods along the way.
* KD had enough time, and he just contributed to the ongoing malaise. Rodgers will (IMO) bring LFC out of this malaise (in time)
I didn't want KD gone 'purely because he backed Suarez'. There were lots of other reasons, many of which I wrote about at length, including:
* Perpetuating a victim complex at LFC
* Persistent rudeness to the Press
* Outdated tactical approach
* Catastrophic waste of transfer funds
* Prioritising cups over the league
* Constantly playing underperforming players to justify their transfer fees.
Etc.
Yes, I am sure. In fact, I argued for the opposite. I didn't want Dalglish to get sacked; given his contribution to LFC, Dalglish is the last person who deserved to get sacked. Use the search function; you will not find a single article/post on this site where I called for KD to be sacked.
ReplyDeleteTest
ReplyDeleteYeah, they were correct.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I thought the yellow cards that came were almost all incorrect, and that includes the yellows which he should have shown to the WBA players but didn't.
I am surprised that no one has commented on Glen Johnson. I thought he was terrible. He plays so lazily. I have no problem with taking time on the ball if it is there, but he is lazy and slow to challenge and when he has possession he slows to a walk.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the club can bring in a clinical striker before the window slams shut.
ReplyDeleteI dont know why Rodgers is complaining its not like the team deserved to win even a point they were awful.
On the plus side it can only get better though there is a few there that need to be shipped off elsewhere.
Liverpool were totally washed out in midfield. Gerard had a horrible game. If these is the type of game they going to play, we don`t stand any chance of against to top 6 clubs. We can give excuses that its the first game, Thats not acceptable for a club like LFC. With such play,by end of Sep , we can forget about about top 4 finish. My prediction is 10th position.
ReplyDelete79 touches on the ball 97% passing accuracy. Stole the ball plenty of times too. Yup, he was lost.
ReplyDeleteAfter the defeat to Fulham at the end of last season, you signed off your scathing article on May 1st with this - "Liverpool have now failed to win 64% of league games this season, which is pathetic. Dalglish is not the answer, and he needs to step down in the summer."
ReplyDeletePlease don't try to defend yourself with the semantic difference between calling for him to be sacked and calling for him to step down. You wanted him out.
No offence guys but everyone hailed Rodgers for the way he had Swansea playing when to be fair they already had that philosophy in place he just continued the work that the swansea chair man (Huw Jenkins) had set in place. Swansea won 5-0 and played the best I've ever seen them play & score 5 goals away from home.
ReplyDeleteSwansea never scored many games under Rodgers & only knows one way of playing. swans already look better under lundrup I think Rodgers is in to deep at Liverpool.
I don't agree. I thought the second was not a penalty. In possession of ball facing away from goal... leg mid motion clearing it was stolen. It was an indirect free kick.
ReplyDeleteLong made as much as he could in the first penalty. Wasn't much contact..dove like a swan but fair enough. Zero respect for him though as a player.
We did completely deserve to loose though. Well done WBA.
Unfortunately, this is myth. Seriously, we need a reality check... we are no longer a powerhouse. It's only past reputation as been for a long time. We are a mid table team ATM. We simply don't have the players to challenge for a title. We need proven goal scorers and more attack minded players. You don't win games if you can't score goals.
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but in the first half, we had two offsides given against us, including one where Suarez sent Downing through and these were not offside. What made these offsides even worse was the fact that they were close to the assistant ref. I used to be a ref and assistant ref myself and if you are in doubt with a decision, the benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking team, more and more, this seems to go straight out the window. And by the way, I didn't think Downing had a bad game, he put in some good crosses, one of them was near the start of the game for Borini which was a very good cross, he also kept the possession well and made some good runs, shown by the run that he made from an onside position but got called offside.
ReplyDeleteNot only the first game of the season, but the first game of the season under a completely new footballing style against a very physical team with technically good strikers, they didn't come mid table last season for no reason, at home we should beat them for fun, but we were away and while yes, we should be beating them and I was frustrated as hell, this was always going to be a tough game, against a team whose manager knows our players better than even Rodgers.
ReplyDeleteDo you not realise that this tiki taka, which is the real name for it, not tikka takka as you call it, is actually an evolved version of the pass and move that made LFC famous? This isn't so new, get behind your real team and stay off Liverpool forums
ReplyDeleteHow is running yourself into the ground the same as rolling over? Yes we didn't play with fluidity today. That is understandable as we are going through a transition period learning a new style of play and yes, this is going to take time. It's not going to be an overnight process, no matter how much fans like yourself want it to be.
ReplyDeleteLet's face it mate, he is from another club looking to rile us up
ReplyDeleteOh an by the way, I have supported Liverpool for 30 years as well, yes I have never been to Anfield, living in Australia, I haven't had the opportunity to, this makes me no less of a fan because I haven't been to Anfield. Just saying
ReplyDeleteListen, we all just need to take a moment, consider the result, consider its place in the grand scheme of things and then formulate an appropriate, reasonable response.
ReplyDeleteOkay.
Ready.
RODGERS OUT!
Exactly, I thought fan of our great club were meant to be intelligent fans, but the constant garbage I see from so called fans makes me wonder.
ReplyDeleteEvra might have something to say about his bark too...
ReplyDeleteYou mean blast the players and alienate yourself and lose the dressing room as well as making your players play even worse? Players need to be encouraged, yes behind the scenes, he will be telling them that this isn't good enough, but on the first half performance that they are on the right track, which they are.
ReplyDeleteWho gives a toss what they done.
ReplyDeleteYeah but we shud have kept Clarke and Pep Segura and that Spearing--faced assistant manager(sorry forgot his name), Clarke is the main reason why our defense looked invincible.
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but the club he went to after getting sacked by us was WBA, of course he would have been laughing. WBA has turned into a pretty decent side, they were the top side from Birmingham last year and have been for the last couple of years. They scored a great first goal, which was unfair in the way we were playing, then they got 2 penalties in the space of 2-3 mins and whether you say they were fair or harsh, the fact that 2 pens in one match against us, let alone in that short a period of time, was extremely harsh and difficult to come back from, regardless, we had chances to get back into it, but the goal from Lukaku, which frankly, we were always going to concede as we were chasing the game, killed us off.
ReplyDeleteHey guys cheer up. let not forget Arsenal had a nightmare start last season and ended up third. And its not Rodgers fault the players didnt show heart
ReplyDeleteYour name says 70, which leads me to think that was the year you were born, if that is the case, you would realise that this BR philosophy is something that some Spanish teams use, which they modified from the pass and move style of play that Liverpool made famous. This is the style of play that Liverpool are used to.
ReplyDeleteIt's the first game, ffs get a grip. Yes it was winnable, and we fell behind to a top goal and then got a red card and had to bring on Carra and had two penalties in the space of a couple of minutes against us, which was extremely harsh. It was always going to be a tough game to win, even if it was winnable, Steve Clarke had the luxury of spending more time with our team than BR has had, and WBA, despite what a lot of people think, have actually turned into a good side. I'm not saying I wasn't frustrated, because I was as frustrated as hell, but I'm not going to make knee jerk reactions, I am one of the intelligent fans that Liverpool Football Club are known for.
ReplyDeleteIn the first half, I disagree, Downing was very good in the first half, in the second he was nowhere to be seen, because he was sacrificed due to the red card, had he not have been sacrificed, he would have probably got the 90 mins
ReplyDeleteSaying that though, the one time we in the early stages of the game where we had a break away, Suarez played a terrific through ball and Downing made a terrific run and timed his run perfectly and would have been one on one with the keeper, he was wrongly called offside
ReplyDeleteWhy, because a striker doesn't score in every game, it makes him not a decent goalscorer? We got Borini who had a decent goal scoring record at Roma, this is the first game of the season, he didn't score in the first game, you can't then say he isn't a decent goal scorer
ReplyDeleteYou said just about everything that I've been trying to get across mate, well said. Liverpool fans are known for being intelligent fans, although most people on here lead me to question that, people like yourself give me hope
ReplyDeleteThis is the worst start? How it is 1 game into the season, we have many times lost the first game of the season.
ReplyDeleteEPL should have it's own referees and not FA? EPL is run by the FA. FA is the governing body in the country, not the EPL, the EPL is just a league.
ReplyDeleteStop being your namesake, it was right to relieve Kenny of his duties, he wasn't the first choice in the first place. BR is the right man for the job, but it takes time. Even Man City who won the league after spending astronomical amounts of money won the league after 4 or 5 seasons. We don't want short term overnight success, we want long term success, and unfortunately for people like yourself who wants everything now, long term success takes time to build up. We will get there, but again to emphasise the fact, IT WILL TAKE TIME
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't think the English lads that Dalglish bought are bad, the Scottish one he bought, a different story, but the English ones aren't, Downing didn't play as bad as a lot of people say he did, he kept possession a lot more than Gerrard did, who was frankly atrocious last night. He also made some good off the ball runs, highlighted by his run early in the game when Suarez sent him clear and he was wrongly called offside and he also put in a number of good crosses in too, yes he put in some bad crosses too, but name me one player that doesn't overcook a cross. It happens, but in the first half, he looked to be pretty good and the only reason he got substituted so early on was solely and wholely because Agger got sent off and he had to be sacrificed
ReplyDeleteI also thought the link up play between Borini and Johnson was very promising too, can't wait to see what it will be like when Enrique comes back
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can do us real Liverpool supporters a favour and support someone else, or even better, build a bridge and jump off
ReplyDeleteOur demise started in Rafa's last season mate. Knocked out in the group stage of the CL and we finished 7th in the league. That was our worst finish since the 98/99 season.
ReplyDeleteWhy people still believe that we are in the hole because of Rafa leaving is beyond me. Hicks, Gillett and Rafa have set the club behind on a large scale.
Rafa had six seasons to win the league and blew his best chance in 08/09.
We are no longer a top 4 team and it is going to take years to get us back there unless Rodgers creates miracles. He is going to need time to fix this mess.
