'I want to go!' - £10m midfielder responds to LFC transfer rumours. Needed?

In June, Pachuca Sporting Director Andres Fassi revealed that Liverpool had 'shown interest' in signing Mexico International Hector Herrera. Now, with only one week of the transfer window remaining, Fassi has again reconfirmed Liverpool's interest, and the 24-year old has directly responded to the speculation.

In an interview yesterday, £10m-rated Herrera was asked about a potential move to Liverpool or Manchester United. He said:

"If given the opportunity to emigrate to European football of course I want to go but I have wait to see what the club officials say.

"The truth is that so far I know nothing about what is happening, I am not aware. From what I've heard there has been some news, but I have had no approach from the Pachuca club president".

Fassi added:

"There is official interest but there's nothing else to add at this time. We have a document. We know he's going to emigrate to England. Manchester United and Liverpool have talked to us"

Despite the signing of Oussama Assaidi, Liverpool still (arguably) need another quality attacking wide player, and Herrera fits the bill, and would probably be quite cheap.

Herrera was nominated for the Mexico league's 'Golden Ball' in 2011, an award that recognises the country's best talent. He was also named 'most outstanding player' of the 2012 Toulon Tournament, and played an integral role in Mexico's gold medal victory at the London Olympics.

  2. No definitely not, no more midfielders we have plenty. PLEASE another winger and a striker, and preferably not Sturridge.

  3. Anyone feel a bit disappointed we didnt keep young Thomas Ince?????? Poor decision to lose an not loan him. Could see has potential and pace to burn too.

  4. Too much for unproven quality - we've had too many expensive mistakes as it is. What we need is a young, pacy, hungry wide man. Somebody like that lad at Blackpool, what's his name, Tom Ince......oh no wait a minute...

  5. Oms: A winger IS a midfielder and Herrera IS a winger.

  6. i think most people now commonly associate midfielder as the central midfield position, particularly at a club that plays 4-3-3 and not 4-4-2. i certainly define a winger as something that isnt a midfielder. herrera is more a maxi type of player, aka not a winger, but a midfielder capable of playing wide, and whose attributes arent the typical pace and dribbling of an aaron lennon or assaidi for example.

seen him on olympics, looks like a quite good player. but i see a problem- we have to many players who can play in different positions, which is great if there is a player who MUST score. if there isnt like now, we end up losing3-0 to worse opponent. i like our new style, but still think andy can be that player who scores, and with him on the pitch (playing well, and he can) it would be much easier for the midfielders, more space, more hope for all those crosses(top five in number of crosses first match)... any news about ramires?

  8. I think if they can get that Yossi Benni guy for free loan from chelsea who don't have use for him, Liverpool could get some reinforcements...

  11. Please, don't bolt the horse too early.  If we show that sort of desperation in garbage cleaning, Bolton might back-off (or may ask  money for off-loading us).

I hope, you are sure that Bolton is paying us, not the other-way round.

  12. After Sahin and Allen ? No thanks .

  13. He is used to playing in a physical league so his transition would be a little easier than most.
Apart from that he is technically gifted, Having watched him throughout the last few tournaments how can you go wrong???
Would be at least half the price of an over paid comparable English midfielder!
P.S and did i forget to mention also probably twice as gifted as at least half of the mostly highly of paid English midfielders?

  21. he wuld play wide right and he is better thn Adam, Hendo nd company who r fighting for a place on the bench, nd u cn hav too many class players

    ReplyDelete
  22. he is nt unproven jus underrated, nd PSG paid 45 mill for lucas, nd we all saw who won the GOLD medal

  23. If they get Herrera fine but not at the cost of the club missing out on a clinical striker and speedy winger.

  24. You mean a player who is unproven in Tom Ince, that couldn't break his way into our first XI over a player who is seen as the best player in Mexico right now as well as being and Olympic gold medallist. And the expensive mistakes we have made haven't necessarily been for unproven quality, Downing although isn't firing on all cylinders, is hardly unproven, Assaidi, just because you haven't heard of him, doesn't mean he is unproven, in fact, we beat off Ajax for his signature, Borini left Chelsea to go to Roma and broke into the Euro squad for Italy, Joe Allen again not unproven. We are about buying potential greats, absolutely nothing wrong with that.

  25. Yossi is too old and would cost too much in reinforcements

  26. Steven Gerrard may not be, but Jonjo Shelvey is

    ReplyDelete
  27. We have a speedy winger, a lad by the name of Ossama Assaidi, actually, we have another speedy winger, a lad by the name of Raheem Sterling
