Ouch! LFC flop leaves for €4m, but Reds get stung for extra €3.4m...

After an increasingly protracted transfer saga, Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has finally left Anfield to join Fiorentina.

Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Delle Valle told the Italian Press this morning that Aquilani is now a Fiorentina player, and he also told Sky Sports 24: "Aquilani is ours!".

The terms of the deal are as follows:

* Three year contract.

* €4m transfer fee.

* Liverpool to pay half his salary (€1.7 million per year) for two years.

Taking into account the €3.4m in wages Liverpool will have to pay over the next two years, the club will end up making a €16m loss on Aquilani, who was signed by Rafa Benitez in 2009 for €18m. Initially, Aquilani's fee was to be paid in installments, but according to LFC's 2010 accounts, the entire amount has already been paid.

Aquilani was never really given a consistent chance at Liverpool, and the midfielder recently complained that he was 'pushed out on loan against his will by both Roy Hodgson and Kenny Daglish.

The Italian is undoubtedly a good player with great vision and technique, and it seems wrong that comparatively limited players like Downing, Henderson, Adam and Spearing remain at the club whilst Aquilani is dumped on the scrapheap.

However, having said that, in purely financial terms, Aquilani's signing will surely have to go down as one of Rafa Benitez's biggest transfer mistakes...?

  1. WOW a dig at Liverpool FC, Rafa and Downing & co all in onw.....must be a new record for you.

  2. Never really worked out for him. I blame Roy and Dalglish for shipping him out...even when we needed some sort of creativity. But Rafa also must share responsibility for spending so much on an average player.

  5. why did we not just release him on free?? would that not cost less....

  6. Obviously, the transfer will be seen as a big failure, but I really would have liked to see more of him in the 2010-11 season, so that he could be judged properly. I felt he was never really given a chance so it is hard to balme the player - or the manager who signed him, but was then sacked the season after he joined. Not really fair to blame Benitez on this one I feel.

He is not an average player. Give the player a chance - and watch how good he is. His touch, vision and creativity is pure class! Mark my words unless you know it already, but i don't think you do, since you are calling him an average.

I hope all of these rumours are bullshit!

  8. No real surprise to see Aquaman leaving, he never really got a chance at Pool. The reason he was sold over Adam , Downing and Hendo is that noone wants those three

Exactly, i used to watch him playing for Milan and his touch, vision and creativity was amazing. With Lucas gone with the injury, all I could ask was "Why the hell are we stuck with spearing when this guy is playing for milan?" Because milan is in a lot better position then us...

  10. liverpool making a big mistake in selling aquillani...very bad news...what the fuck ...why are they against that player ...i want to see him one season with us ...give him the chance he is a good player ..4 million euro what a low value of a player like aquilani...bad news really

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well no as 4 million euros (Transfer fee) is more than 3.4 million euros (Wages we will have to pay)

But really, I don't think you should trash Downing and Hendo just yet. Downing created lots of chances, worked his ass off last year, started this really nicely. Hendo is a kid who was mostly played out of position.

We are LFC supporters, and how should we feel reading your piece trashing our good players? I think everyone would agree with me here...

Spearing and Adam -> you can say anything you want about them, because they're and will be useless.

  13. it's unfair for aquilani to be labelled an average player when he was never given a good run of games

    ReplyDelete
  14. Agree, but Rafa is not the only one to spend alot of money on average players. Roy(Konchesky), Kenny(Do I need to add any names here) and I think Brendan is going the same route if report are correct and we are paying over 10 mil for Allen and even more for Gaston.I hope I'm wrong on my opinion on these 2 players but judging from the match between GB and Uraguay the other night, Allen seemed to just pass sideways, we need midfielders that will score goals.
Gaston made Berbatov look like a Kuyt, the guy looked as lazy as shit - hope I'm wrong on this.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He was injured for a long time before we bought him which was ludicrous. Especially for the price we paid.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Brendan, Kenny and Roy didn't rate him. Juventus & AC Milan sent him back. Fiorentina want him as long as we pay his half his wages. And you think he's undoubtedly a good player

    ReplyDelete
  17. so far we have shipped out three of our world class players (by that i mean proven internationals) maxi, dirk and aqua and signed one 21 year old italian. It looks like agger is off, Suso unhappy and gerrard displeased with kenny sacking. i am starting to lose faith in FSG. third manager already, shit team, no spending and no stadium. Hmmm. more cowboy yanks?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Every manager screws up, it's part of the game, but some are just highlighted more than others.
Somehow sir red nose seems to get away with burying his mistakes; they seem to disappear like irritants pissing off a mafia boss!
Anyhow, seriously boring and protracted affair now finished, one way or another, and to a certain degree, closure.
The guy was covering for himself by saying one thing and his subconscious was giving him away by how he made any excuse to get out of Liverpool.

  19. ha ha didt read that article but can believe it,just one question are you happy with how this transfer window his progressing

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes.  The window ends on the 31 August so plenty of time to get things done.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i agree it's been a shambolic signing (lets see what happens with carroll before its branded our worst) and rafa does deserve SOME blame but not all roy hodgson, kenny, now rodgers (although for rodgers more understandable due to wages and wanting his own man allen) have not given aquilani a chance, like i think rafa would have had he remained.

Also annoyed that rick parry has gone but we still suck in negotations pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This is just a farce.

We are the worst negotiators in the history of the transfer market. Bar none. How the f**k some of these clowns were ever allowed to operate a budget at the club is beyond me. Beggars belief.

I will eat my hat if Aquilani doesn't get back into the Italian team (barring injury). Inexcusably never given a chance at Liverpool except by Rafa when he was fully fit and yet we persevere with the likes of Adam. Truely, truely unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hello?? If 1.7m is half his salary that makes 3.4 his yearly salary which is less than 70k euros per week.. Think AGAIN if all figures are right coz that means he earns 14k pounds less than Downing per week.. So how is that a big wage!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Flop. Shouldn't have a bought a injured player at such a price in the first place. The guy has rarely started more than 20 or more league games per season in his career.

Guess he replaces Montolivo who has gone to Milan, who Milan got on a free (the latter probably one of the factors in the way Milan's interested allegedly ended).

    ReplyDelete
  25. Aquilani never wanted to play to play for Liverpool,
all he was interested in was his 120,000 per week.
It really makes my blood boil that this greedy pig
will still be on 125,000 per week,Benitez Houllier,
Dalglish & now BR could see he was not interested.
Its no wonder the owners do not want to buy any
players, this season already they have spent as much
as Utd. the difference being Utd got 2 players for
their money Liverpool got no players the money
went in payoffs & compensation. This Bosman
rule as been a godsend to the likes of Aquagreedy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. He is barely fit for long enough to have many opportunities to be given good run of games.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Time to get players in now!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thats one hell of a shitty deal! We get 4 million from aquilanis sale but we have to pay 3.4 million for his wages!? We could have just sold him for 0.6 million euro and it woluld have been the same thing. What the heck is that? I thought that when a team bought a player, that team had to pay for his wages. We are being ripped off here. The guy in charge of the business part in LFC should seriously consider checking his mental health. Allowing 35 million for the purchase of caroll last year and now selling aquilani for 4 million while paying his 3.4 million worth of wages for 2 years is just utter stupidity. We sure have become the laughing stock of the whole premier league...

    ReplyDelete
  29. When BR took over he said he'll give him a chance. Now he's gone. I won't believe anything he says anymore. If Alberto don't fit into his tiki-taka football style than I'd like to know where exactly J Spearing, Ch Adam and S Downing will. Another mngr who'll keep very limited Brits at the club regardless. God help us.

  32. Agree, but we still have to be more realistic that we have a lot of none quality players that do not belong at L.pool ,at least they are not good enough for that what we are trying to achieve .Downing is a good  player ,Hendo definitely not good enough as so for Adam he's just a back up player not a starter same for Spiro, but if we want to fight for a title we must buy quality player improved ones ,not the likes of Borini ,Allen etc. Now L.pool has just a few quality players Like : Reina ,Skrtel,Agger ,Johnson,Lucas, Gerard,Suarez and we need at least two top quality players to fight for top four and the title.

  33. Good technique but doesn't have the characater or mentality to sucseed in the prem. Im sure he would fall over if you blew at him!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Guys
dont panic. The deal makes total sense if Aqua doesnt want to be here.
We bought him for £4.5m every year he played, to a maximum of £18m. £4.5m was paid upfront and then £4.5m for the first year. Since then we've loaned him out so havent paid anything more.

That means we've paid £9m for him.
If we were to keep him we'd pay a further £4.5m this year and £4.5m next year. Selling him means we net £600k.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Very bad evn shocking bullshit about a player who has never being given a proper crack at establishing himself as  1st 11 player, maybe a little lazy lookn at times and seems 2 lack the argressiveness needed 2 be a good prem player , still believe giving the right role in the team, pulling the strings in the middle..?? Bcause their is no questioning his technical ability and potential 2 be a top player, just needs encouragement  and a belief from Brendon Rodgers otherwise touch him on but not if were paying some of his wage!!!!     Still believe he is better than Adam,Henderson,Downing,Spearing and Shelvey... Playing him in a Midfield with Gerrard Lucas and Dempsey would be interesting!!! Gaston Rameriez???? GUITAN???????

    ReplyDelete
  36. To the people moaning here, Aquilani had bad attitude since he came here. Right from the first day, he acted like he never wanted to play for Liverpool. Why would you pay £20 million without knowing if player wants to play for the club ? I would blame Rafa for it.
Before a week, he stared talking about how much he wants to play for Liverpool but his agent did all dirty talks for last 3 years that Aquilani wants to go back to Italy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. good player in theory, over-piced over-hyped wimp in practice; couldn't tackle a rice pudding - no bottle for the premiership - good riddance - but who the hell negotiated those £125k per week wages for a player known in Italy as Il sick note!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Is he worth even taking a gamble, i feel his confidence whilst playing in the red of LiverpooL was shocking. It's like he realised previous managers managers had no time for him and knew his days were numbered, HOWEVER even when equipped with this knowledge and knowing his future was else were he did put in s couple of decent performances and even began running the show and lookn stylish as fook whilst doing so..?? Any 1 else agree Aqua needs a run of games and management to be behind him 100%, he would have made the Italian Midfield only for injury forced him out!!!!!   Give the lad a chance otherwise were relly fukn up a currently bad situation!!!! Build d lad up with confidence playing regular football and 20 million be coughed up around Europe!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bought 2 replace Alonso!!!! Surley Benietz knew the abilites he has, unlucky 4 him when he arrived he was injured not the best start 2 his carrer at Liverpool then Hollier "who bought Aqua" got d sack. Woy nor Daglish rated him!!!    HE IS QUALITY

    ReplyDelete
  40. yeah i just had a good laugh when you referred to the players on the team as "good." Most of these guys are nothing more than just average if they are lucky. It is mostly the same poor squad from last year. With one major signing so far there has not been an improvement in quality in the squad. I don't even think much of Borini to be honest.  I don't know if you actually watched the game against Gomel Liverpool were exposed in the back very many times . We got away with one because Gomel just couldn't finish in front of our goal. Even though Rodgers claims he is happy with the win , he can't be satisfied with Liverpool's performance. You come to appreciate Daniel Agger more when you see Jamie Carrager in defense against Gomel.

There is not a lot of good players on the team to be honest for Jaime to thrash. If you have time watch the champions league match again against Milan from 95 and then watch any recent game with Liverpool and then compare the quality of players on the team. I love the team since i still spend money on the merchandise but i am honest to tee about the club. This season coming up the team will once again not hit the mark once again. That is unless Rodgers takes a different approach and stops signing  only players he has worked with and signs players who welcome the spot light and play with great confidence.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well said. They got Liverpool on the cheap and still no real plans for a new stadium. They said they want to buy top young talent but bring in Adams and downing and spend all summer trying to get Dempsey . Do they think we are stupid ????

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't see what you get (other than called lots of names) out of articles like this. So very wrong in almost all of it's content and yet again you choose to take figures based on very poor websites as gospel.

    HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  45. guys dont panic. Ignore my earlier post. Research I had was wrong. Below is more accurate........

Look at it from FSG's point of view. They havent had to pay a penny for him (go to Jamie's artcile to see how much we paid for him before FSG took over http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2009/11/alberto-aquilani-truth-about-his.html)

They have  a player that doesnt want to play who is earning £120k per week. They can effectively shift this and get a few hundred grand after subsidising half his wages (plus possibly £2m to £3m more depending on appearances) in the process

Its obious Aqua doesnt want to play for us and wants to go home so let him and move on. £120k a week of our wage bill goes a long long way

Now we just need to get Cole off!

    ReplyDelete

  48. How dare you criticise Sean Dundee, one of the clubs greatest servants and finest players. Next thing you'll be slating Djimi Traore.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Glad that we are finally rid of him.

Rafa signed him to replace Alonso HA HA HA (biggest mistake Rafa ever made pushing Alonso out) and Rafa hardly played Aquilani when he was even fit to play. Money wasted. FACT!!!

Then Roy came and he went on loan and with Dalglish the same happened.

Then enter Rodgers who also clearly saw that he was a waste too. That has to tell you that Aquilani is nothing but a complete failure and one hell of an expensive mistake. Finally he is off our wage bill which makes room for player who actually want to play for the shirt.

So 3 managers after Rafa and not one of them saw anything positive in keeping the Italian. Not even Juventus or Milan wanted to pay a penny for this waste. Good riddance. Now lets complete the signings of Joe Allen and Clint Dempsey.

Jaimie, Downing was pretty decent vs FC Gomel. I know you say he is rubbish but under Rodgers we will see a totally different player and BR will get the best out of Downing. Watch this space.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh Alberto what can be said about him that hasn't already been said by others. Like many I feel that he was not given a fair chance by Kenny Daglish simply Kenny had favorite players who he wanted to play more often. Aquilani like many players in the game get signed by a team who then fires it's coach and then forces the player to be in limbo where his is concerned. With the arrival of Kenny came a new style of play , one in which veteran players were quickly benched and younger inexperienced players were given regular starts. The departures of Kuyt and Rodgriquez can attest to this fact.

I must say that i am not too surprised by Aquilani's departure. With Joe Allen supposedly coming in it makes sense for Rodgers to make room in his already crowded central midfield. We see his willingness to create even more room in the midfield as it was heavily  rumored by some media outlets to have offered Charlie Adams , and also by a few other media other Jonjo Shelvy  to Fulham in exchange for Clint Dempsey. While Dempsey is capable of operating in the middle of the park he has been utilizided a lot on the wing and as a striker for Fulham.

Aquilani's time was coming to an end at Anfield no matter what public soundbites Brendan Rodgers made about his love for Aquilani's playing style. I am sure that he would have loved to keep Aquilani and sacrifice either Adams or Henderson, but the reality is that Aquilani turns out to be the more marketable player of the lot.

I wish he luck in  Fiorantina, he is a quality player with a great touch on the ball and the ability to see the open man. A lot is expected of Joe Allen as he is to be Brendan Rodgers' Xavi Alonso, a man who can be seen as the man leading the orchestra in  getting everybody to play the same tune. While Gerrad may be the captain I see Allen as being the creator - chief for Brendan Rodgers.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think the problem with the Aquilani transfer (long-term that is, short-term there was obviously the initial injury being much worse than first thought) wasn't ability or desire or even fitness but simply his wages. They were extortionate and once Hodge came in, he had a player who didn't suit his style on huge money and Dalglish had his own revolution in mind so he obviously was told by the owners that he had to balance the books a bit.

It is a shame, since if Rafa would have kept his job, I'm confident that Aquilani would have been a success.

    ReplyDelete
  52. A quick question - you refer to Aqualani as an undoubtedly good player, with great vision and technique, yet Rafa, Hodgson, Dalglish and Rodgers didn't want to keep him, Milan clearly didn't want to take him on and Juve weren't interested.

That's a surprising number managers at highly respected clubs who have passed on him.

I'm intriuged as to why if he's as good as many make out?

    ReplyDelete

i think u are right mate.KD played very good 'pass n run' attacking football, was very unfortunate with the woodwork several times & wasted penalties (not to mention Lucas' injury blow)

the only mistake KD made for the team was being selfish & ignorant.he knew a new better finisher was needed but did not buy one because he wanted to prove that his signings were not a waste of money.

how can one leave Maxi and Kuyt out for Hendo and Carrol?

i think BR might be heading for the same mistake, because he is likely to be playing his signings from the past to prove that he made good signings.we need another finisher, not to rely on Borini & Suarez only (& if present Carrol as back up)

i hope that im wrong & that BR has everything under control.

  60. There seems to be areas of the squad that have needed attention for some time now, and yet another manager is set on revamping our midfield.

If it is taking the 'sale' of Aqua to finance the purchase of Allen, then where is the money coming from to buy decent cover for Lucas or Enrique? Not to mention more firepower up front and a goal-scoring midfielder!

Our squad is looking as threadbare as I've ever seen it at the moment, it doesn't seem like there's much cash to finance replacements and half of our senior players are considering moves away!

  66. Who negotiated the Aquilani deal. Along with Joke Cole,Konchesky and the Danish glacier Poulsen? The case rest m'lud. Purslow is guilty of blowing what must be close to £70m If you add in that Alonso's fee was only £24.5m not £30m and he sold Mascherano for less than we bought him, it just shows what happens when you allow a novice in charge of a football club.

Purlsow do not ever darken our door ever again....

    ReplyDelete
  67. Selling Aquilani to finance other purchases is hardly the case as we made bugger all from this deal with Fiorentina. Roy, Kenny, Rodgers, Juventus and Milan said thanks but no thanks to Aquilani. That says it all. We should have never signed this waste in the first place.

The idea was to get Aquilani's huge pay cheque off our wage bill to make room for more signings. Maxi was another player eating holes into our wage bill. Aquilani and Maxi combined were eating away at over 200mil a week. Were they combined worth over 200mil a week? Absolutely not otherwise they would have been in BR's plans going forward.

Joe Allen's deal will be completed very soon and expect Dempsey to follow after that. If Carroll is moved on then there will without a doubt be another striker heading our way plus there are rumours going around of a big name coming to us on loan. The transfer window is open till the end of the month and I can assure you that new faces will be added.

Also don't forget the likes of Sterling who could possibly make it big for himself this season should Rodgers give him the nod for this coming season.

FSG is here to stay. Do not know why there is still so much negativity surrounding our new owners. They dragged us out of the hole and have made us one of the most financially stable clubs in England. Keep the faith.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Correction...

Aquilani and Maxi were eating away at over 200K of our wage bill...

Nowhere near good enough if we talk about that kind of money.

let us hope we stand behind this manager more than we did ROY( hang heads in shame) regardless, BUT WE ARE NOT STUPID ok most are not.

  70. Are you also going to blame Parry for signing Keane when Rafa admitted in "An Audience With Rafa" that he wanted Keane and Barry? Keane was sold back to Spurs at a loss, not because of Parry but because of Rafa as usual being stubborn. Rafa was part of the cancer that almost had this club on the verge of the end. Now we are finally heading in the right direction again.

  72. Great article. To my knowledge Aqua man just didn't fancy it at Liverpool or indeed in the Premership. Nothing do with previous managers It's been a disappointing saga along with many others who have signed for this great club I'm sure John Henry is learning fast.

  76. understanding  BR's position of not wanting to sign flops which is what mainly did Kenny in, he has to take more of a chance in the transfer market if the club is ever to improve it's on field product. Dempsey signing is definitely a  step in the right direction. Dempsey is playing at his highest level of confidence in all his five years at the premiere league. I like BR to pursue talent far and wide that will be willing to come to Liverpool. I feel that he is too invested in getting his former players to Anfield. It is my only criticism.

While we all are very excited because we have a new man in charge who knows how to talk to the media and has new exciting system that works a lot like Barca's . We did not see the system working very well. The reason is that the players at Liverpool are really not all that capable of playing this new foreign style of play. They can't realistically adopt this new concept in the short period that is the preseason. I think for better results we bring in players that already have a lot of technical skills on the ball and are confident in their own skills. Relax i am not saying axe the whole squad but from the Gomel game in Belarus we are lacking a lot as a team that is obvious. We desperatley need some creative sparks on this squad.

With BR it seems like new signings will all be a serious slug fest the window. Hoping that that is not the case come January or next summer.

Figures are wrong. We sold him for 6/7 million...

  78. I'm really disappointed. Aquilani could undoubtedly add to the quality of the squad. Our CM's are Spearing, Shelvey, Lucas, Gerrard, Adam and Henderson. Spearing is not potentially great. Henderson and Shelvey are still years away from showing their true potential. And Adam's quality is pretty much self explanatory.

Aquilani, Gerrard and Lucas were the best options. Aquilani came out and said he never wanted to leave, even on loan, but managers were quick to ship him out and never showed him faith or a chance. Rodgers also said he wanted to keep hold of Aquilani, and goes back on his word without explaining. Mr. Henry also tweeted what an amazing player Aquilani was in preseason last year. As fans we are constantly undermined, and lied to. I can't believe it, we went from a midfield team of Meireles, Aquilani, Gerrard and Lucas to basically just Lucas. Gerrard is turning 33 now.

I hope Liverpool can perform above my expectations.

  79. I agree with everything in this article. There are levels to who is to blame for this, but Aquilani has been a disaster at Anfield. And I cannot believe the terms on which he's leaving. Only LFC could be treated like such bitches in this situation.

  80. Jaimie,

I've seen you spout before about what the accounts tell you about what was "paid" for a player.  I can assure you, as a Finance Director of a large UK PLC, that you can not deduce what was actually "paid" for a player from some of the soundbites in the accounts.  Not least because you would actually need to look at the Statement of Cashflows (even better the source and application of funds) to determine what was paid to whom and when.

The commitment between LFC and Roma was divulged in the accounts as a post 'balance sheet' announcement, which clearly indicates that the liability for Aquilani was not paid in one hit, but in installments, otherwise you would not capitalise the liability and hold it on your balance sheet.  Add to this the loan fees we received for the player when he was on loan and getting him off the wage bill too.  My guess is that net net he will have cost no where near what you are suggesting.

Still not going to suggest LFC got a good deal, but he was a talented player who was sold a dream, but his heart was never in the reality - which always put the club over a barrel with regards to what to do with him.

  81. You are quite right about Allen. I have already said that he mainly passes sideways or backwards. That explains his so-called stats as being excellent! We will stand or fall by having the right strike force and at the moment that we do not have.

  82. I don't think we have seen anything yet. Wait until these clowns REALLY get going we haven't hit bottom yet!

  83. I think you will find that FSG are not here to stay. Financial stability has no bearing on the class of players attracted to the club. One may support the team and even the manager should one wish but be entitled to criticize poor ownership and it this latter that most are concerned with here.

  84. Rodgers it seems is making room for yet more of the players that once played for him it seems. Aquilani out makes room for his side/back passing Allen and as he is running after his one-time goalie De Vries now at Birmingham he can get rid of Reina as well! This all bodes ill for LFC I believe as we prgress even more into becoming Swansea ( plus some reserves). FSG must be pleased as he is steering clear of class and going for the "cheap options".

  85. When are they selling the club and more to the point was Dalglish not given enough money to make this side strong?

  86. You'll need to cross a lot more than your fingers. Hendo a new Gerrard? Ha- ha. Open your eyes - he's garbage mate. But at least you're right about Adam and Spearing. We have so much rubbish on the books we should be nicknamed 'the tip.'

    ReplyDelete
  87. Well, it all depends who you compare him to. Compared to Iniesta or Xavi, no, he's not a good player, Compared to Henderson or Spearing he's excellent.

  88. It is a fact that LFC are unbelievably bad at transfers. Pay a fortune and get rid for buttons, or just buy absolute rubbish. Another very grim season ahead with a new manager in place by this time next year.

  89. Im affraid if Brenden Rodgers is going to buy only players he knows, or he as managed before, then i dont see our club progressing as a top four team? we need a couple of out and out wingers, who can cause are opponents problems, with speed and decissive, and clinicle passing. We also lack a natural "finnisher" Im not trying to say i know best, but we could all see for ourselves, last season were we need too strengthen our team? so with Maxi and Kuyt now moved on, we should be looking for at least one player who is of a better pedigree than Downing, Henderson, Spearing or Adam? And IMO Gaston Ramirez ticks all the boxes. Dempsey would be a better addition to our team also than what we already have. Joe Allen, out of all the players Brenden Rodgers as worked with, in the past, would be the best player, out of the bunch. And if Andy Carroll is to leave then the likes of Huntelaar, or even Demba Ba, would be a possitive signing, that would sort out our much needed goal drought of last season. Lets hope BR brings at least one gifted player this season? Or im affraid 8th spot could be a reallistic target again this season? We all live in hope, of a more fruitfull coming season, than the previous one. RedMan4Life.

  90. if seven managers have looked and not rated him i guess somethings not quite right with his football.

  91. Roy was horrendous and uninspiring. Every team he has managed has been like that. The football Liverpool were playing almost blinded me. And to think he had Lucas Mascherano, Torres, young stevie G and Meireles at the time.
