Confirmed: €20m South American star has 'talked to LFC'. Deal soon?

The Gaston Ramirez transfer saga rumbles on! The Uruguayan has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool over the last year, and last night, his Agent provided a new update on the player's current status, and it appears that, once again, Liverpool are in direct competition with Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, Oscar Betancourt - Ramirez's Agent - said:

"We've talked with Liverpool about a transfer but nothing has come of it yet.

"The only concrete offer has come from Tottenham, who offered 16 million for the player, but the salary offered was too low"

It comes as no surprise that the sticking point continues to be financial, expecially after Bologna Vice-President Maurizio Setti recently confirmed that the club is holding out for €20m:

"For Ramirez, the negotiations start with at least €20m. The biggest interest has come from the Premier League and the Bundesliga. Ramirez is a player who will make a difference to any team because he is a born champion"

In my view, Ramirez is not worth €20m, and Bologna are massively overvaluing the player. After all, it's not as if Ramirez is an established world star with a massive list of achievements to his name; he's a promising attacking player who has basically achieved nothing in the game, yet Bologna want €20m? Lukas Podolski cost Arsenal only €12m, and he's achieved a hell of a lot more in his career.

Over the last months, Liverpool have been focused on reducing the club's wage bill, and it's doubtful that the club will undo all that by offering Ramirez an inflated salary just to get him to sign.

  1. Tottenham had an offer of £12.6m (16m euros) accepted but Ramirez declined because of low wage offer-

  2. I'm a firm believer in don't red too much into speculation, its done when he's holding the shirt or shaking the managers hand, but if we can bring this boy in and the 2 from Spain, we will have something we habvent had for a while and thats depth and options!!! Something I do'nt think we have had for a long time. Normally you look at the bench and think please nobody gets injured now there is the potential for a very decent squad.

  3. I really like this guy. I think he's a top young player who would fit nicely with Rodgers style and no doubt would link up nicely with Suarez Gerrard borini etc. 16 Million is the most Liverpool should pay for this guy though as he's not played in the prem before so it's a gamble to pay to much for him. in regards to his wages i cant comment as i havent got a clue what wages he's demanding? As much as i like ramirez though id much rather see Liverpool signing Theo walcott

  4. I think the fact with are after the 2 lads from Spain and that we have had talks but submitted no bid means he isn't coming. The club don't rate him high enough

  5. We are not interested in this guy else he would have already been here. If he can't get a wage he wants from Spurs then he isn't going to get more from us ( re: Sigurdsson ).

  8. Yeh i agree with that ha , suppose it's quite flattering really though that this team thats supposedly so much better than Liverpool have to try and hijack any deal Liverpool attempt! its a bit like City really i'm convinced City scouts just read the papers to see who every other teams scouts are linked with and then they make a bid

  9. I agree JK. BR will go for 2 players on loan ie. Tello and Sahin. And push for Dempsey.

  10. Couple of thoughts:
Don't really see the Ramirez transfer happening. Think Jonjo might have curbed the progress on this one with his great pre-season. Plus the Allen signing firmly secures all mid-field places.

Ramirez is not a natural winger, and this is the one area that we need to add to. It's all well and good having an attacking front 3, but width is also crucial. I'd be very surprised to see 3 centrally focused players in our front 3.

Although Dempsey is of a similar mould, he is proven in the PL, is disciplined enough to play in an attacking front 3 and good enough to cover Stevie if injuries strike again.

On a similar note, I reckon the Sahin talk is simply just talk (unless we unload adam + 1 other). Tello 'could' be nice but appears highly selfish and very raw/risky. Loan deal probably the most sensible option here..

  12. 20mil is way overpriced. Agree that this guy hasnt achieved nearly enough to justify this price tag. Seems like price these days is directly related to the amount of times your agent can get your name in the media. Im sure rodgers will not pay this as fsg and BR are about value vs. potential. And the maths dont add up.

  13. Of course they will over inflate the price, they dont want to sell him. I would say he is probably worth £12-£15 million, so add in competition for his signature, and the fact that they dont want or need to sell him, £20 million is probably the right price.

  14. Yeap i heard the news and its true. Gerrard will move to right flank while sahin is our goal scoring midfielder.

If we sign these two players and keep Agger im sure we will give a Title chase and gurantee a CL spot.

  15. If we don't get him, howabout putting some faith in suso and sterling. Pacheco hasn't really been given much of a chance either

  19. For the price of Ramirez, we could pick up Ricardo Quaresma AND Kevin Mirillas (sp?). Whenever I saw Ramirez he looked like a just decent attacking midfielder rather than a wideman, and for Uruguay in the Olympics I couldn't even figure out what he was supposed to be doing, with him only really featuring for free kicks (which were admittedly very good)

I haven't seen much of Mirallas, so am buying into other ppl's hype here, but he looks an exciting on the ball talent, with decent stats to back him up also. Irt Quaresma, I have been impressed with him pretty much every time I've watched him play and don't understand how he continues to get knocked from pillar to post. At the very least, with them two added to Suarez, on form we'd have 3 of the most exciting attacking options in the league, and it's been an awfully long time since we could say that about Liverpool!

  20. LoLz title chase. Be realistic dude

  21. Cant blame me for being optimistic

  22. It is mostly good to be optimistic but not this year. Lets keep expectations low, so that there isn't any pressure on the team

  23. Personally I would of liked too see Ramirez, in the LFC red but If we get Sahin and Dempsey? we would be fine, with Sterling, and Pacheco also I think we have the makings of a decent squad, Tello would be the icing on the cake for us, then were good too go. Im feeling more optomistic than i have for quite some time, and im being realistic in the fact that we could be more challenging than the last couple of seasons, for a champions league spot, than we had been under Kenny, and Roy? Come on Brenden we have the faith in you. RedMan4Life.
