In his press conference on Monday, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers implied that Andy Carroll could be sent out on loan next season. Inevitably, a media feeding frenzy ensued, with the 35m man linked with moves to a variety of clubs, including Fulham and West Ham. If Carroll is to leave, a return to Newcastle United would seem to make the most sense, and when asked about the possibility in a press conference today, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew provided an interesting response.
Pardew regularly defended Carroll last season, and when asked about the possibility of the big man returning to Newcastle, he defended him again:
"Andy did a terrific job here.
"I have always supported him, even while he has been at Liverpool, when others weren't.
"I think he got a bit of a raw deal, not by Liverpool but from the media in general.
"He is going to be a great player. Where he treads the boards, we will have to see"
Despite being asked a direct question, Pardew didn't explicitly reject the possibility of Carroll returning to Newcastle, and in my view, this is significant.
Reading between the lines, it appears that Pardew is certainly open to a Carroll return, and if coveted striker Demba Ba was to leave, which is definitely a possibility, you never know what might happen.
Perhaps Liverpool could even work out a Ba-Carroll swap deal. After the arrival of Papiss Cisse last season, Ba was shunted out to the left, a curious reward for a striker who grabbed 16 goals in five months prior to the position change.
Elsewhere, new Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas Boas was also asked by reporters whether he was interested in signing Carroll; his response was much more emphatic:
"It's not fair for me to comment on that. I'm not sure of Liverpool's intentions on Andy Carroll, but he's certainly not a player we're looking for"

He can still be a threat in the air if he practice well. After all we still have great crosser.
ReplyDeletewe do?
ReplyDeletedo we?
ReplyDeletecaroll has been pools most threatening player the last 6 months, but best to let him leave, for he fail to adapt to a system that we are not certain of. retarded reasons. let this be the final stick the media beat kenny with. pathetic tools.
ReplyDeleteI think that he can do god job. The problem is in middlefield. Last seasson our middlefield didnt do nowhere near god job (downing, hendo, adam, spearing...). Look at Mario Gomes. My opinion is that he is not far better than Carroll, only Munich middlefield is much much better than ours... so, upgradeing middlefield is the key to success, from my point of view...
ReplyDeleteHaha
ReplyDeleteWe are not showing Andy Carroll any respect and that is shameful - Kenny was always respectful
ReplyDeleteReading between the lines... A nice way of saying 'making shit up'
ReplyDeleteMore useless nonsense.
we do?
ReplyDeleteAs a Newcastle fan I would love to have him back. He is still very young and didn't have that much first team experience before LFC bought him - less than a season.
ReplyDeleteKeep faith with him, once his first touch improves, which it will if you play him regularly, you will have a hell of a CF.
It wasn't his fault he was bought for £35M....
Carroll might not fit into rodgers style of playing like barcelona but how they would have loved him in the champions league against a 11 man defensive Chelsea
ReplyDeleteWell, still no sign of that urgent press release to clear things up regarding Carroll's future. So, like the local council take our silence as acceptance in response to a 'request' for approval or disapproval from us, let's take it, that Liverpool's silence is gleefully skipping down the same street.
ReplyDeletedo we do?
ReplyDeleteWas he?
ReplyDeleteseriously? six months? so you're going back to december?
ReplyDeletei love the revisionism done on arroll.can you tell me what he did in december that made him so threatening because i don't recall too many moments.
he was, just ask jeff shreeves at sky.
ReplyDeleteCarroll should stay and fight for his place. We still need 3 more strikers.
ReplyDeleteThe Great Liverpool teams of the past never had an issue with replacements. Be it injury or loss of form. Any squad player can come in and completely displace a regular. This is what we want. There is no place for sentiment because you have to perform . It is all about the Team and Club. I think BR will drill this into the players. And I hope he does.
ok enough I cant name that crosser in 10 letters
ReplyDeleteneed to keep andy and add another striker .rhs mid fielder. and a new keeper. reina to many mistakes !!
ReplyDeletePardew would bite our hands off at a chance of signing Carroll.
ReplyDeleteHe just showcased his obvious talent with a headed goal in the world's premiere international competition.
Milan are mentioning him.
Swap deal? Ba is available for 7.5 million, we could just snap him up if we wanted to. Papa Demba Cisse is the real talent, maybe a swap for him would be acceptable.
all depends on what formation we play 4 3 3 could mean that carroll plays down the middle but he's gt to serioulsly step up
ReplyDeleteLEARN HOW TO F***ING SPELL YOU TWAT!
ReplyDeleteI suspect FSG are looking to offload Andy...oddly enough at a time when he might becoming good..Will we recoup the outlay ? of course not
ReplyDeleteWe do do
