Borini to Liverpool? Agent provides new update on potential transfer...

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini confirmed earlier this week that Liverpool FC are definitely interested in signing Fabio Borini, and now, the player's agent has provided an update on the deal's progress.

In an interview with TMW today, Marco De Marchi said:

"Borini to Liverpool? The interest is there, and Liverpool were clear.

"But now I cannot say more. I'm waiting for an update from the two clubs.

"I only know as much as everyone else at this moment."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers knows Borini well after working with him at Swansea, but despite this latest development, it seems unlikely that a deal will go through, especially given Borini's emphatic rejection of the possibility a few days ago. He said:

"I am a Roma player. It's not my business that there is talk about whether I go to Liverpool or stay. It doesn't matter to me, I am Roma"

According to overseas bookmakers, the odds on Borini joining LFC are currently 8-1.

EDIT: 7PM - Reports from Italy suggest that Liverpool have had a 12m bid accepted for Borini, and that he should become Brendan Rodgers' first signing by the end of the week.

  1. Oh yes the interest is there alright. What started as a £7M or so price is now being muted as above £12M ! Is this standard for Italian team management as they all seem to apply it? That is unless they are buying ( i.e Milan) when they want everything for free - reminds me of Holloway at Blackpool - smiles!

  2. surely borini's reply was more of a fob off comment than an emphatic rejection. He is a Roma player until the deal is done and obviously doesnt want to burn and bridges before he crosses them

  3. He seems to be better than Andy Carroll in terms of speed and tactics

  4. i really don't want him at Anfield. I think Brendan Rodgers can do better. How about we get some body who really is excited about playing for Liverpool. What happened to Gaston Ramirez. I don't see Borini as a more talented player than Ramirez.

  5. We can talk about potential transfers till kingdom come. Agents and media hype at it's best keeping our tongue's wagging. We can only wait till it happens. No point in speculating and then be frustrated.
FaBo seems like a good buy though.

  6. Gaston was a target for the previous regime. BR will not go anywhere near them. just like any new manager.

  7. They play in a completely different position you fucking clueless idiot. How can you compare a striker to a left winger + the Ramirez deal was never on, just speculation, Rodgers doesn't want him.

  8. The way we are treating ANDY CARROLL IS DISGRACEFUL AND SHOWS TOTAL LACK OF TACT.

  9. I would really like to know the exciting new players are who are supposed to get us all excited. Personally, I don't feel that we need to sign anybody. I would rather see the youth get their chance and offload some of the fringe players. I don't believe Carroll is a player I'd like to see leave, but I trust Rogers and I will agree with every decision he makes. It's been so long since we had such an exciting manager.

  10. that is a shame because i believe the player to be very capable to fit into Brendan Rodger's new foot-balling strategy. Ramirez is someone comfortable with the ball at his feet also someone good at creating opportunities for others.

It is normal for Rodgers to want to put his own stamp on the team by acquiring his own targets. It would be a shame if let this player slip out of our hands though. He is a great young talent.

  11. I'm very excited that we have A manager that has vision and seems to be able to stick to it. Possession soccer is the style we played in good old years, he's going back to that and if the current crop of players don't fit in they must go, simple as that. This is year Liverpool will start ringing the bells of success

  12. I doubt Brendan Rodgers is going to sign any new player by the end of this week although he did assured us that he was going to sign at most two players. He is just too freaking slow with all this. It would seem he did not learn his lesson with sigurdsson. He also said that his new signing would be a really exciting one. If its Borini, I dont think it will be that exciting for the fans. He was a reject from chelsea who was loaned to swansea in the championship where he performed decently enabling them to gain promotion. He was then sold to roma where he again did ok but nothing extraordinary scoring a few goals in an average league.

I think Brendan Rodgers is just realising how small he in fact is in this big "footballing institution" which is LFC. He even admitted that it may take 3-4 years to be able to challenge for champions league!!! He is not even saying that it will take 3-4 years to be in champions league! What a joke... Newcastle just got promoted and with a couple of well scouted players managed to nearly qualify for champions league last season. They did not even break the bank for any of the players they signed! Its in fact very simple for LFC to qualify for champions league:

    1. Do some research for players all around the globe who will represent good value for money. By good value for money I mean if we sign a striker for 35 million he should be able to at least score a dozen of goals per season or if we signed a winger for 20 million he should be able to at least provide a few assist every season.
    2. Once you get players who has good value for money you sign them before others hijack the deal like tottenham did with sigurdsson.

Its that simple, its not rocket science. The better players you have in your squad the higher your position is in the league. LFC although not running with petrol money is not under any dept and should be able to sign better players than most of other teams in the league so there is no reason we should not be competing for top 4.

  13. If your manager is saying it's going to take years to compete, Who the Fx@K  is he going to attract...mediocrity that's what! Good players don't have years, they want to compete now! I would'nt be very impressed if i were in charge, unless i did'nt care less as long as i stay in the premiership. I'll give Rodgers a chance, but i'm very dissappointed with comments like that. YNWA.

  14. Roy, it is not a comment. but fact. If you have loads of money to spend, you are within a chance. We do not have the resources it seems right now. Therefore BR is giving us a heads up. To build a team capable of fighting on all fronts is gonna take time.

  15. Lots of BS in there buddy.

BR is trying to sign Borini. How do you know that, it is the media telling us and his agent saying that. Even if he signed him, he is exactly the type of player we need.

He is taking his time in signing players, because he knows if he gets it wrong he will be fired come January. So rest assured he is going to do his homework.

Another issue we have is anytime we try to sign a player, the price goes through the roof, because of the reckless signings we made through the years. Now every club thinks of us as fools who would pay anything for xxit (Remember Downing and 20m)

So I would say just chill out. We will lose out on a lot of targets this year, but rest assured people will not take us for a ride (or at least that is what I hope so)

  16. Meireles was a target before Mr Hodgson had the honour of leading Liverpool just like Suarez was a target before Mr Dalgish took over. Mr Dalglish took over mid January but Liverpool were already in contact with Ajax before then.. I hope that is a glimmer of hope unless Mr Rodgers is hell bent on distancing himself from all our scouting activity from before he took over in favour of his targets for Swansea i.e Sigurdsson and Borini.

  17. If Borini wasn't signing his agent would have said so immediately, the deal will be done.....................stop worrying!!!

  23. Who`s to say the new player that will excite the LFC Fans Isin`t Alonso? Food for thought.

  24.  Sorry mate but Borini was anything but a reject at Chelsea, who did NOT sell him. Ancellotti called him the 'mini Inzaghi' and they offered him a new deal three times before he left (under freedom of contract) as once they signed Torres he knew his development in Chelsea first team would be limited until drogba left at least. He did the right thing too as developed well at Roma and was in the Euro 2012 squad as a result.

Don't believe the hype regarding the fee either. Roma owner and president Thomas Di Bennedetto is an italian-american and is the other major partner in FENWAY SPORTS GROUP with John W. Henry. This is simply a transfer of an asset from one part of business to the other.

  25. Looks like a done deal alright.

He is apparently an utter professional, BR knows him well.

Let Utd and Chelsea chase £30 million 19 yr old Brazilian "superstars" who have done little to prove their worth.

FFP can't come soon enough for Liverpool, or Man U, at this stage. There are now at least 5 teams ahead of United in europe, spending wise - Barca, Real, PSG, Citeh, Combat 18.

Continuing success has masked the Glazer's financial shortcomings thus far. Could quickly sour on them, esp when Sir Alex goes

  26. Made the national squad and scored goals for Parma last year. At 21 he's not a development player i.e. he's capable of earning a starting role but can potentially give 10 years to the club. That's why you spend well on young players and it makes absolute sense to me. Maybe he's not as exciting as people would like, maybe he's not a glamorous name or someone you've read a lot about, but frankly I'd rather do without those kinds of players. Newcastle showed last season what you can get out of relatively unknown players bought for low fees.

The Echo report says that Borini himself pushed for a deal because he wants to work with Rodgers. For that kind of money you'd want to be assured that he's enthusiastic about making a career for himself at Liverpool and I'll bet confidently that's the case. The player will want to play here, want to work with our manager, want to play his style of football and generally give 100%. That's the BR standard so I'd expect nothing less as our first signing.
Of course it remains to be seen how well he actually plays. No one can predict that. Eden Hazard might well have a rubbish first season for Chelsea while Borini settles in brilliantly. You just can't assume anything based on the price tag. Carroll and Torres are a perfect example of that. I also remember when we bought Cisse and Chelsea got Drogba. Word was that we got a much better player, younger and with more raw talent. Didn't exactly work out that way, so you simply have to wait and see. So 11 million agreed already and Rodgers was talking about potentially 3-4 new faces, minimum of 2 expected? Doesn't sound to me like the owners are keeping the purse strings tight. Sure, we're not spending silly money like City or Chelsea but that doesn't mean we won't spend what is required to get whatever the manager thinks he needs. First real piece of positive action from Rodgers that we can all enjoy and I think it's worth enjoying. It's a forward step for the club and a sign that we've not going to slide quietly into more mid-table mediocrity.

  27. Except H&G couldn't afford him is the accurate statement

  28. If you actually read what BR said, he said he was looking at bringing in 2 players by the end of the week and 3 or 4 overall, he believes that is all we need. The truth is, it's actually not as simple as you make it out to be. As far as the better players you have in your squad the higher your position is in the league, you clearly haven't heard the saying a superstar team is better than a team of superstars. The important thing is to buy players that suit the style of play and also for the team to gel. Last season, we were 8th and by a long way, and yes we got unlucky at times, but even so, let's not kid ourselves, we were not top 4 quality. That is going to take some time and we are kidding ourselves if we think it's going to take 1 year with the quality of the top 6, Chelsea only came 6th, that should tell people something. Yes we will get back to CL qualification and I believe we will get to challenging for the title again, but it's going to take time. It's "fans" like you who want instant success which is killing football, sustained success doesn't happen overnight, it's a long process

    ReplyDelete
  29. Although I agree the previous guy was speaking out his backside, you have to be extremely naive to believe the media. The only time I will believe we have made a signing is when the LFC official site announces it. After all, that is the Liverpool way

    ReplyDelete
  30. And the reason we don't have the resources? Because of our 8th place finish, plain and simple, that hurt us. FSG has said that whatever money we make in the season will be ours to spend, that said, if we don't make a lot of money due to bad performances, why should they give us money from the Red Sox or one of their other businesses, that is not the right way to do business, although people think that they should. Just like if the Red Sox were underperforming and we were year in year out Champion's League, they wouldn't be getting money from our revenue. Fact of the matter is, it is going to take us a few years, Chelsea have a huge transfer kitty and they finished 6th last year. It's no longer the big 4 are shoe-ins

  33. Did you at least listen to the interview of BR? In which part of the interview he said anything about "exciting". You are the usual st#pid guy that want's to pass comments and opinions before even having the decency to listen to the Interview.

BR said we will probably sign a player by the time we go to the american tournament possibly 2.

As for Borini if a 21year old playing already for his national side and that team happens to be Italy who got to the final of the Euro and still hold on to that peace of gold called world cup I honestly don't know what a good player is for you. He played good with swansea he played good for Roma which we can say they are in our same position. What else should this player do?

I personally think that if we get Borini our only weak position left will be that technically gifted right sided mid. If we get a very good player in that position we will have a very good first 11.

    With                           Reina

                        Skrtel                    Agger

                                      Lucas

    Johnson                                                      Enrique

                       Gerrard               Aquilani

                  unkown                              Suarez
                                      Borini

If we get some one really good in that right side of the field and I have to say that my dream would be Adam Johnson all we need is luck on the long term injuries and good cover. Especially for Lucas since Spearing is not good enough.

My concerns with this team selection are Gerrard and Aqua man since I fear that Gerrerd can't withstand all that running up and down the field while Aqua man might not be there with the head. Got to see them playing first.

  34. I'd rather be happy with the fact that it'll take some time for us to challenge premiership and CL and face the truth, rather than hearing our manager say that its gonna be premiership for us this season, only to be disappointed in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I can only dream! Doubt Jose will let him go though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. For 12 million I will say it is a risk! He will no doubt improve us a bit up front but this is not a signing that will get us excited like what Rogers said. It will take someone like Hulk, Falcao, Cavani, Torres to get me excited. I think I speak for a majority of what we expect at LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You need quality players to play possession football without getting destroyed on the counter. I just hope we can play with a good balance.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Are we forgetting that we have good youth players also... I mean Sterling might actualy get a chance to shine... which he can do quite easily and therefore we dont need to sign a expensive winger... just a thought.. We are forgetting there is a breeding ground of young footballers behind the first team waiting for a chance if they are good enough?
