Spanish starlet raves: Joining LFC was a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity...

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez recently revealed his excitement over the talent of Anfield starlet Suso, and the youngster lived up to his billing this week by helping Spain to the final of the U19 European Championship. With the new Premier League season drawing ever closer, Suso gave his thoughts on his hopes for the future, and it's clear that he's excited about being at Anfield.

Many fans will be hoping the 18-year old attacker breaks into the first team during the upcoming season and gets a few chances to test himself in the Premier League, and Suso has his sights firmly set on impressing Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. He said:

"I hope I get some minutes and a chance to show what I can do. G

oing to play football in another country and learning English was something I wanted to do and I am glad I did; I love England".

Suso also has no regrets about leaving Spain and coming to Liverpool"

"Before I made the choice to move to England, I thought to myself that joining Liverpool was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"I felt that if I kept improving throughout my career, I would have the opportunity to play for a big Spanish team but the Liverpool offer might have never come around again".

Unlike certain other players, he sounds like someone who actually wants to be at the club, and that's great.

Here's hoping Suso and Raheem Sterling get the chance to show what they can do this season.

  6. Looks like BR is going to benefit from the overhaul of the academy system that Rafa put into place.  Great legacy, and I feel it's in the right hands.

  7. What's happened to Connor Coady ?? The guy was promising, reserves captain, went on tour last summer with the senior team and now just seems to have disappeared...

  8. I genuinely hope that the likes of Suso and Sterling are given the opportunity to prosper as first team squad members. If these two are to fulfil their obvious potential, they will need to be. Pacheco I recall was in a similar situation a few years ago - he looked fantastic as a youth player. But he was never given those odd ten minutes at the end of matches, Carling Cup games or even a surprise start from time to time. Until that happens, players like Suso et al won't develop into the stars we want them to be. For example, if we had Fabregas as a youth team player like Arsenal did, I'm not convinced that Liverpool would have given him the opportunity to play as Arsenal did as a 17 year old. I appreciate there is a balance to be struck, but at 18/19 years old there is only a fine margin of time in order to harness talent/potential into genuine first team quality. It's a risk to play youth but having belief in them is the key - see Barcelona in the way they handle their youth set up and integrate into the first team.

  9. Suso is a good prospect, but whenever I see him playing for the reserves, he seems so average, especially compared with his U19 performances for Spain. Hopefully he'll flourish under Rodgers more continental style of play.

  13. WE HAVE REALLY TALENTED GROUP OF YOUNGSTERS, WITH SUSO, STERLING, TEIXEIRA, COADY, ROBINSON, FLANAGAN, PETERSON, SHELVEY, WILSON, COATES, WISDOM, MORGAN ETC... MAYBE EVEN PACHECO COULD REVIVE HIS CARE IN A LIVERPOOL SHIRT AS HE WOULD BE WELL SUITED TO THE PASS AND MOVE STYLE AD IS VERY COMFROTABLE ON THE BALL. IT' NOT ALL DOOM AND GLOOM AT ANFIELD W HAVE SOME GREAT YOUNG PLAYERS ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING THROUGH AND IF RODGERS CAN GET SWANSEA PLAYING WITH SUCH STYLE AND GRACE THEN HE SHOULD GET LIVERPOOL DOING THE SAME I AM VERY CONFIDENT WE WILL SURPRISE MANY THIS SEASON.

  20. But he didn't get much of a chance.

Did "ok" when at Norwich, but the fact he didn't return for last season may be a damning inditement?

I've always held him in high regard, and someone that would fit seamlessly into the passing philosophy so I'm hopeful he'll do ok for us....

  21. Agree 100% - dictates the play just like Xabi did! Even if he does succeed at LFC (which I really hope he does), I just hope that the big 2 in Spain don't start calling.

  22. I thought he did pretty well too for the time he was given on the pitch for LFC , but if a player is not given a run of games , i guess we will never know what he's made of

  23. When Real or Brca come calling this lad will be off! Money in the bank for LFC.

  24. Just to add to all those well-deserved positive comments...

I think he needs to add to his right foot play - and he needs to open his eyes to what goes on at the right flank. He only passed the ball right 10% of the time - and only three times with his right foot - even if there were open oportunities to that side. I do not want to take anything from his performance - or his quality - but he is still raw and has obvious areas for improvement.

  25. Reminds me a bit of both Xabi and Iniesta: Xabi's distribution skills and Iniesta's pace and possession ability. Potential to be quite useful in Anfield...YNWA!!!

  26. Sorry mate, but Rafa was the one who brought him to Liverpool. He only arrived in 2010, but had agreed to come to us the year before already, and this was only becuase he was still only 16 when we signed him.
