'He will leave' - Agent confirms exit of €12m 'El Mago'. Will LFC bid again?

Last summer, Udinese defender Crisitian Zapata - nicknamed 'El Mago' - confirmed that he was 'close' to signing a deal with Liverpool. The deal fell through and the Colombian international went to Villareal instead, but after a year at El Madrigal, the 24 year old's Agent has indicated that he is definitely leaving Spain this summer. With Liverpool potentially in the market for another central defender, could Zapata be a viable option?

Speaking to Sport Italia last night, Massimo Italiani - Zapata's Agent - admitted:

"What I can say with some certainty is that he [Zapata] will leave Villarreal this summer. Anything can happen, but I don't believe that he can return to Italy"

Liverpool tried to sign Zapata once before, as confirmed by the player himself in June 2011:

"I can say that I am very close to a Liverpool move. At the end of the Copa America, we will see what happens with my future. I have gained experience, but the time has come for me to make the jump to a big team"

Martin Skrtel's future at Anfield remains uncertain, and with Fernando Amorebieta's Agent confirming this morning that Liverpool are tracking the defender, it appears that the club is searching for potential defensive replacements.

If Liverpool were interested €12m-rated Zapata before, perhaps the club may take another look at him, especially now that it's clear he's available. The Colombian would probably be a cheaper option than Amorebieta, but is he suited to the Premier League?

Worth looking at just in case?

  1. Watched this dude last season, he is absolutely shockingly useless, LFC should stay well clear of him. He makes Djimi Traore look a star player.

Nah! When he gets the ball he looks lost lol. If skrtel goes bring coates into first team.then bring wisdom on the bench... That guy is brillant! We have couple of CB in the youth who are class. Also elly can play their..

  3. Exactly, don't know why KD chased after him.  Good that we didn't waste money on him.

  4. I agree with the above, he was poor last season. I'd rather go for Kjaer who is (or at least was) out of favour at Schalke, even though he had a mixed time on loan at Roma last season.

  7. I totally agree with you, Coates is a class act he just needs a chance to show us how good he really can be, if Skrtel goes, or if he stays, Coates should be more involved with the first team than he was last season, he just needs more game time either way, we could rotate these three Agger, Skrtel and Coates this would pay dividends if BR keeps all three this season. with a first 11 of Reina, Johnson, Skrtel/Coates/Agger, Enrique. Midfield if Ramirez becomes a LFC player Ramirez, Lucas, Gerrard. and if Carroll stays? Borini, Carroll,Suarez, but if Carroll goes maybe Demba,Ba in the front three? with a host of options for the bench, but personally i would want Sterling, Aquillani, Pacheco, Bellamy, Coatez, Kelly, and Reserve keeper. If Carroll was to leave Demba,Ba would be a great signing and then we could also get Moussa Sissoko also. Then sorry but the deadwood should be on thier way out Downing, Adam, Cole, Spearing, if possible which will in turn, afford us to go and get Dempsey and another leftback, that would be a decent squad of players, too hopefully be challenging for the top four places in the prem this season. Lets Hope LFC do get Gaston Ramirez, that will be a big statement from Brenden Rodgers too all other teams in the prem that he means business. RedMan4Life.

  8. The only central defender we should be bidding for is Yaroslav Rakitskiy

  9. if skrtel goes then we'll need to sign someone but the defensive priority for me would be a left back.enrique had a dreadful second half of the season and looked dreadful against roma too.i now johnson can play there and some of his better games for lfc have been at left back for some reason.

  10. No need for a centre half this year, although if agger and skrtl don't re-sign we will have to sell them next probably. That said if City want to pay us 15m for Skrtl and put him on their bench then fair enough.

  11. Sounds good but not good if we still keep a passenger. No free rides for Henderson the pedestrian. Worst LFC / Kenny's signing . Should have told KD to take Henderson along.
