Last week, Swansea manager Michael Laudrup hinted that a 'big offer' could be enough tempt Swansea to sell midfield maestro Joe Allen. Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing Allen to Anfield, and whilst Swansea City captain Garry Monk hopes that Allen will stay, he is not surprised that Liverpool are interested.
In a radio interview over the weekend, Monk praised Allen's 'great potential' and praised the midfielder as 'one of the top players at the club'. He further enthused:
"Joe Allen is level-headed which really helps him deal with pressure situations. He doesn’t get linked to the likes of Liverpool for no reason.
"He’s been tremendous for us. When he came through as a young lad you could see in training sessions how good he was.
"He was brilliant last year. He controlled midfield and stamped his authority, you don’t often see that with someone so young.
"He’s only going to get better, so I’m not surprised to see him linked to Liverpool"
With 90.3% passing accuracy, Allen was Europe's sixth most accurate passer last season, only 2% behind Xavi, and 1% behind Sergio Busquets and Philip Lahm.
Craig Bellamy is a massive fan of his fellow countrymen, and he recently told reporters:
"He [Allen] is special. He has made so many key plays for Swansea last season. He’s a Brendan Rodgers player, he fits Liverpool to a tee.
"If the club is able to secure him, they will have a real gem of a player. I would be shocked if Liverpool did not go for him this summer. "

looking forward to seeing henderson in the middle. he been out of position all last season, and when he put in a shift at right back he was great. credit where credit due i say.
ReplyDeleteHenderson is a good option but I think if Lucas gets back to full fitness the midfield 3 will be Lucas, Allen and Gerrard. With Spearing, Henderson and Shelvey as back up. Unless he loses weight and gains the ability to tackle / dribble effectivley Adam will be a squad player or maybe even sold. Aquilani - I would like to keep but I think the club will do whatever they can to get him off the wage bill.
ReplyDeleteWe've got so many central midfielders do we need another? What we do need is a winger who can actually beat his man. It seems to of gone quiet on the Ramirez front and the talk of Walcott doesn't really fill me with a lot of hope for next season.
ReplyDeleteThe reason Joe Allen won't be coming, I like him a lot, has been shown up perfectly by you, namely Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Adam, Spearing not to mention Suso and Coady you can't carry to many in with a squad of 25. I'd not be surprised to see us go for him next summer but we'd have to rid ourselves of 2 of the above mentioned players to even think about going for him now. The situation with Swansea would also prove problematic.
ReplyDeleteTheir saying allan has asked swansea to agree a deal for him... Ill only pay max 12 million. He would fit in well in midfield with lucas and gerrard. But I think henderson should play to his passing is brillant too and very composed on the ball for a young player.
ReplyDeleteJoe Allen looks like great little gem of a footballer, hate to think he would go elsewhere like sigsig; most definitely would be pissed if he went to man u and became amazing, like a certain Roy keane 20 odd years ago!!!
ReplyDeleteI want that one, and that one, and that one as well, oh yeah don't forget that one in red too...,. But where shall we put them?
Don't worry we'll build a bigger cupboard!!
Would be a great signing. Has good ball control. But first and foremost Rodgers will need to get rid of the access baggage in MF.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on the midfield.
ReplyDeleteIf Carroll is sold and money is available to Rodgers I think Walcott would make a great addition to the team. He's fast, scores and assists. It would be nice to have Walcott, Ramirez and Dempsey in the team.
its a done deal . can't argue with his credentials, he is a beast of a player. so, lucas as the deep lying MF with stevie me and allen taking up the 2 box to box pass masters roles.
ReplyDeletehopefully that means Adam will be sold asap and recoup 6-9m.
Both Aquilani and Cole will be staying so the midfield will be pretty crowded. Offload Adam and Spearing.
ReplyDeleteWalcott is injury prone so why waste money on him when we can use Sterling?
ReplyDeleteWe are overstocked in MF: Gerrard, Lucas, Adam, Henderson, Aquilani, Pacheco, Shelvey, Spearing, Suso, Coady. That's 10 already.... On the wings we are understocked after losing Kuyt and Maxi. We have Downing, Joe Cole, Bellamy (if he stays)...., errr.... Sterling. Unless we are doing away with wingers and playing a 4-3-3 we will be looking a little narrow and short on pace. We will still have to add more options upfront. I hope we get players with pace!!
ReplyDeleteI think its a waste of good money when you have suso waiting
ReplyDeleteHes a great option. Why keep the dead-weight on our wage bill when theres better out there...
ReplyDeleteWalcott has played 47 and 48 games in the past 2 seasons!!!
ReplyDeleteI like him and think he is good, but he wold play the deep holding midfielder role that I am looking to see Lucas reclaim. so would be a stand in for him or the pair would be rotated. I think Henderson is the better option as the middle of the midfield trio. i think he is better going forward.
ReplyDeletewe are going be be playing 433... but even then with 3 places in midfield to fill and 10 players is too many. I'd get rid of Adam, send the youngsters out on loan and buy a decent back-up for Lucas.
ReplyDeleteFront 3 from (currently) Suarez, Cole, Downing, Borini, Bellamy, Carroll plus youngsters... so argueabley enough numbers... but again maybe not the quality thou! I'd want to improve on Downing and get a better winger in for one of the wide forward positions.
Hey we said the same thing when we bought Henderson
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Allen in the red shirt. His drive reminds me of Stevie in his early twenties. And great reading to see a him linked to us. But I just can't see the relevance in a pole where you are to choose between him and a player already at the club.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is hard to see why you have so much against henderson, Jamie. Hi is the u21 captain and one of the brightness young talents in the country. Hi as well will only get better. As I said I would love to see Allen at Liverpool and don't see why it should be no the expense of henderson.
rather have reina
