Angry boss tells LFC: Make us a 'bizarre offer' for £6m star or forget it. Bid?

Bolton boss Owen Coyle has reacted angrily to speculation linking attacking midfielder Mark Davies with a move to Liverpool, insisting that he will only be allowed to leave for big money.

Speaking to the Bolton News yesterday, Coyle confirmed that no offers had been received yet, and made it clear he wasn't very interested in selling the player. He raged:

"There has been absolutely no contact about Mark Davies.

"If somebody thinks because of the events that happened that one of our players would be leaving on the cheap they are sadly mistaken. Those players are the same value as they were last year.

"Unless somebody came in and offered something totally bizarre, I don’t anticipate them leaving and I’ve already told the chairman that"

Davies is rated in the £6m range, which seems like a fair price for a Championship player. It's interesting to note that Coyle does not slam the door shut on a deal, he just makes it clear that Davies will not leave on the cheap.

Additionally, Coyle said 'if SOMEONE thinks...' - his comments are addressed to an individual, and he's probably referring directly to Brendan Rodgers.

Davies is not the kind of signing that would excite Liverpool fans. However, he's arguably the type of player who could add depth to the club's squad for a comparatively small fee.

From the video below, Davies looks like he has great touch, a good turn of pace, and the ability to keep hold of the ball, all of which are qualities that Brendan Rodgers values:

Alas, his extremely low creative return of 5 goals/3 assists in 76 appearances (43 starts) for Bolton is a major red flag.

  1. We have enough squad players in Midfield imo. We need to only bring in players that will go straight in to improve the team.

  2. 'He raged...'?? WTF?? Did you actually hear the interview with Coyle??? He wasn't 'angry' at all you total dimwit, it was just standard managerial talk about one of our players.

And how else was he supposed to word his sentence other than 'if SOMEONE thinks...'??? What a load of garbage this article is!

  3. I don't know why Coyle has his knickers in a knot with Rodgers.
    has he contacted Bolton? No.
Has anyone from LFC spoken about Davies? No.
Have the hateful effluent stirring UK media been up to their usual annoy the Liverpool supporters tricks? Yes.

I'm afraid Coyle is doing a Dave Whelan and trying to inflate the worth of Davies.

  6. Relax Owen. The reason there's been no offer and no contact is because maybe just maybe Liverpool are not interested.

  7. If the video clip is genuine he cetainly looks much better than what we have now.The 2nd goal in the clip,Barca would have been proud of.

  8. If Owen Coyle is interviewed and asked a question about his player being linked with another club he will answer it honestly and that's all he's done, chill out scousers...

  9. he was brilliant in the game where they beat us last season,he was central to everything good in their play but it's a huge step up from bolton.

  10. Which probably means Liverpool will be submitting a £15m offer!

  11. Coyle is holding grudges against Liverpool for selling him Ngog.

  12. that is better! keep your mark davies Mr. Coyle!! i prefer you Owen to prevent him to join LFC as a player from a relegated team! this work for our favor!

  13. Come on guys. There's no hint of any "raging" in the Bolton Evening News.He just states clearly that he's trying to keep his better players which any manager would do.I'm from Bolton and I know that I've never seen Coyle rage at anyone. Journalism at it's worst.

As far as Davies is concerned the general opinion is he goes missing in far too many matches. This is backed up by the stats that are there for all to see.I'm a Wanderer and I'm not bothered if he stays or goes.

  14. Davies is just further dross to add to the current dross.
However if any club comes in for a Championship player they are going to jump at the chance of going there.

  15. Well done for removing my post. The truth hurts does it.

  16. He's not good enough for Liverpool. He was good for us in some games Last season but went missing in quite a few matches with no impact. Doesn't score enough goals and needs to be more consistent. I would give Joe Cole another chance than take another gamble with Davies.

  17. Who was I insulting apart from your rubbish journalism.Trying to create a story that isn't there.I gave you the facts and you didn't like them.Explain to me where Coyle is raging please?

  18. more speculation and nothing else. Here is an idea tell me about actual liverpool signings.  Davies is really not what Liverpool needs right now.
Tell me that Ramirez is actually being signed. It would be nice if we were able to finally identify someone who can come in and adapt to this "tiki taka" pass and move foot-ball that Rodgers is trying to implement.Surely there must be someone out there that we can sign. I think we need to scout through the flavilla's of Brazil. There is a lot of hidden talent in those parts. We can always teach them english.

  19. Nice try Coyle but Rodgers isn’t going to be throwing money away like Comoli and Dalglish were besides I highly doubt that he has any interested in bringing any players in without any flair.

Well , all I can say is welcome to mid table mediocrity for the next 3 to 5 years.

Has anyone whose a season ticket holder notice the prices for next season?

Where is the finance for the refurbished stadium ?

Is this why FSG wanted a Manager who can work with small budgets?

Take a good look at Arsenal if you want to see where that leads to.

We have to shift Carroll & Downing ...Adams and Henderson can be squad players at best.

However because of Dalglish pig headed ignorance and arrogance were lumbered with the rubbish signings from last year.

I don't care what anyone throws at me, when I looked at the European Championships and looked at the Spain squad I was angry.

    Alonso,Arbeloa,Torres in the final.

Johnson not better than Arbeloa,Alonso better than any English  or Liverpool midfielder including Gerrard, Torres even in his poor form better than any English or Liverpool striker.

I don't care what anyone says you get what you deserve in this game.

  21. He didn't react angrily at all. He simply stated (calmly) that no-one had made a bid for Mark Davies and it would take a 'bizarre' bid for someone to buy him.

All the 'angry' reactions and micro-analysis of certain words was your editorial choice on an interview you weren't present at.

Very odd angle to take. Judging by the comments you got one or two biters though.

  22. Coyle just doing the usual PR waffle that managers do, in relation to the potential negotiation games that will occur down the line for their players.

  23. It's alright, Comolli isn't here anymore. It'll only be £14.5m

  24. There will be rumors and rumors of transfers and then there'll be none , and we have too many like his kind

  25. If lfc buys Davies ill turn my back on rodgers. What a horrible player.

    ReplyDelete
  26. enam10, no offence but what kind of desciption is that? He's certainly not the finished product and probably not ready for Liverpool but to describe as horrible is a bit far I mean, he tore you to shreds last season single handed... Henderson, Downing are no world beaters but given the choice I'd stick with Davies over them two.

  27. What a ridiculous comment!, the lad is a real talent and at £6m he is a bargain. He dribbles at pace and is very tricky on the ball, you say he is a horrible player???..................................utter garbage. Were Joe Allen, Leon Britten, Dyer etc horrible players????. Grow up and engage your brain before posting rubbish!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes he was and with better players around him he would be a real good player!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. People get carried away about where we get players from, I couldn't care less, as long as they have control of a football and can see a pass, this lad can!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. i dont want anymore english players. They are not good enough. Buy the best go for better foriengh players.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Can we finally, PLEASE, put the Owen Coyle love-in to bed now? The man's a plank. Put some phucking trousers on you tw@!

    ReplyDelete
  32. sounds like u are a 'foriengh' LFC fan..

  33. Thanks S_S, club comes first, be it KK or SG; you are correct; my full support with bit of your comment.  Apart from the Spanish 3, think about Mirales & Acqualini.  2 top class mid fielders, starter for Portugal & once Italy were virtually thrown out of LFC to establish some British garbage.  If ever a Manager picks Henderson & Adam ahead of these 2, his honesty & motive should be questioned & rightly so, he was sacked.

Actually, I 'll play Maxi ahead of Downing & Pacheco/Suso ahead of Henderson.

  34.  As a Liverpool fan, I think this is a fair summation of what happened. I think most of us are on edge with no signings and a clearly reduced transfer budget. Keep the faith, people.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Totally agree.

    ReplyDelete
  36. He is horrible. Is he better than Tello-no, is he better than 3m pound Michu-  no, is he better than Obi Mikel- no, is he better than Keita-no. simply put id rather have susi or cole been given a chance rather than 6m pound wasted on this HORRIBLE player.

  37. Your logic about who the comments are referring to is typical of the majority of Liverpool fans I know. You will find that Newcastle have been sniffing around Mark actively and LFC has probably only been mentioned by the media to sell rag sheets.

Does the world revolve around Anfield? Not any more mate. It's comical watching the red half struggle to live of past glories and long may it continue.

I've used adblock on your crappy blog and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

He's nowhere near good enough for Liverpool. Only a cross between Messi, Ronaldo and Pirlo is good enough for these premiership "winners"....
