Confirmed: €20m Uruguay star 'negotiating' deal with an 'important club'. LFC?

Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool over the last year, and according to Bologna general director Roberto Zanzi, a move away from Italy is definitely on the cards this summer.

In an interview with Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino yesterday, Zanzi admitted that Bologna are currently working on a deal to sell Ramirez. He said:

"We are negotiating with an important foreign club for Ramirez, but their offer does not satisfy us yet. The deal is by no means close to completion."

A 'important foreign club'? It's probable that Zanzi is referring to an English club here, and this would align with recent comments from Ramirez's agent, Pablo Betancourt, who admitted that Ramirez was negotiating a deal with a 'major English side'.

There's no question that the Uruguayan is for sale this summer, but the sticking point seems to be the transfer fee, with Bologna Vice-President Maurizio Setti holding out for €20m:

"For Ramirez, the negotiations start with at least €20m. The biggest interest has come from the Premier League and the Bundesliga. Ramirez is a player who will make a difference to any team because he is a born champion"

Let's hope Liverpool are the 'important foreign club' negotiating with Ramirez. €20m is a lot of money, but it's comparatively meagre when you consider some of the ridiculously infated figures being thrown around for the likes of Leandro Damiao, Olivier Giroud and Hulk.

Hopefully, with Uruguayan stars Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates already at Anfield, Liverpool will be pole position to snap Ramirez up ahead the likes of Man United, Man City and Arsenal.

  1. Ramirez is pure class but unfortunately can't see FSG forking out the £16m for him

  2. It is Man City, negotiations have been going on for the past week

  3. Man City are the team thats trying to sign Ramirez. Liverpool better off trying to sign Dzagoev

    ReplyDelete
  4. I agree mate, dzagoev would be a very good signing and fits FSGs bill of a young talented player perfectly

  5. Its Man.City. It's a shame he's just what we need for RW. Now our focus Will probably be to sign Babadouaz (spelling) for RW.

  7. Are you sure?? Seen him on quite a few occasions and never looked anything to me!

We have Ace in our hands Suarez who Uraguay player will come ramirez or cavanni but we aregoing for sturradge who the year Defore old man kalou or diame who scored 6 goals last year. rodgers has been put in there to buy on cheap so how can he be are succses if the whole world seen last year world class not english is needed and stevie g is getting old he spent half the year injured ?ramirez makes sence yer?

  9. All right King Kenny73 mate what about Honda who wud seriously boost us financially. The Japanese absolutely love him. Hes also a box-to-box midfielder who can create and score lots of goals

  10. i would like it to be us but, sadly, at those figures, i would highly doubt it!

  11. Relax mate, these are all newspaper speculation. Except for Diame and Sigurdsson. With 30 million its possible to sign star players. Michu is available for 3 million pound Just look at his stats. I believe we need 3 starting 11 players to get back to top 4.

By the way Johnson is good, Sturridge is a horrible player shud LFC sign him, Kalou will replace Kuyt(i guess its badplayer-for-bad player). Cavani is rated 35 million so its hard to buy him. But it depends on our transfer policy.

  12. yeah, good call, breaking into the japanese market could prove VERY lucrative!

  13. Mmmm guys just curious but when are we going to sign players- if ANY players

  14. I dont think we could sign Ramirez...i agree with Zuco...so many years so great players could have been in Liverpool but no one did...thats because our managers or charmains couldnt make the right decisions...Ramirez is too expensive cause we have 30 million budget...we propably sing Sigurdsson...But a team cant escape at top 4 in Premier League with 30 million budget while we dont have a good team behind us...We even dont have good Youth Facilities...the last player that made an impact from Youth Facilities is Gerrard!!! Sorry but for another year our tranfers will be dissapointing...we have lot of problems...F@@k :/

  15. Wouldn't surprise me if this is less FSG signing and more a PSG signing at that price.

Seen clips of the guy and looks great. But then again so did Voronin.

Italy to England transfers don't have a great track record. I'm more comfortable with Sigurdsson.

  16. Face the reality Buddy .. FNG fail in their investment last Year .. only time will tell if player bought by Kenny will meet their valuation .. Rodgers Can make the most of a little 30 M transfer kitty .. he proved it at Swansea !! Personally i admire his tactical knowledge .. For me he is the perfect Choice to manage Liverpool right now .. Expensive player doesn't mean instant result ( it's a gamble all the time ) .. it depends if they can fit in your team style of play .. I'am not a football expert but many Liverpool fan will agree with me that all the player Rodgers has been scouting So far are good Value for Money and will suit Liverpool style Of play ..

  17. If it actually were Man City trying to sign him then they would have already, they have more money than sense. 20m is zilch for them.

Im hoping LFC sign him, he would be magnificent. Ive seen this guy effortlessly breeze past utterly bamboozled defenders on the sideline and then nutty the centreback along the goal line Suarez like. Get him at all costs I say.

  20. So where is there negativaty to rodgers ? you basically agree with me fsg let  dalglish too much money. thats why if rodgers gets it wrong his budget savers could be very wrong look at rafa . read first try to understand what your reading BUDDY. like you said your not football expert i agree with you your right

  21. ITS only a matter of your opinion who the f..k is michu your cousinjohnson and sturridge said no to liverpool twice when we sold torres and last year Ramirez  afferay much better both 25mil man city pair 34 mil. and the money given to rodgers doesnt help him not his fault. so whats your point? just that it make sense to you

    ReplyDelete
  22. how sure are u that it is 30 mil....its just media speculation...we need to wait till july to get to know who is coming........

    ReplyDelete
  23. Can you please post in English?

Michu plays in Spain. If you watched football instead of just reading all the stories you would know who he was!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. ok thats 1. You wont name another!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. What! Dude, what exactly are u trying to say? Is this meant to be English?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well, i think its gone too long without any concrete sounding or offer for a player happening, we'll end up with people like Bendtner!

    ReplyDelete
  27. If he goes there he will choose money over football.

Maybe he thinks he can put Nasri or Silva on the bench but I doubt it.
If he goes there maybe he will want to leave City in a year so Liverpool could use their Uruguayan players to lure him. For less money than City will pay, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Unfortunately we don't have the savvy for that! United are the one's who continue to widen their fan base with their purchases. We don't seem to have the business acumen for that!

  29. Don't think we have the sense to buy Boudebouz.

  30. i think i can help . Man City have made inquiries about Ramirez  but I do not think he is their number one  priority this window. Like it was already stated above if he were they would have already drowned Bologna wi I know that if Mancini wants a player he goes after him like he did with Balotelli , Aguero , and Dzecko. They have more money than God.

Gaston Ramirez was first rumored to be a target for Liverpool some time well before Kenny got the boot. He is a great player, i have to admit that from what I have seen he is would be an improvement in class over our current winger Downing. I would love for Liverpool scouts to actually party more in Spain and in Latin America because  players from that part of the world I think would add a more technical style of play which we do not have too much of. I think Ramirez would be a great statement of intent to all pundits and fans that we mean business next season.

  31. typo in my comment above . It's supposed to read "would have already drowned Bologna with all their money"

I'm sure Jaimie Kanwar used to slag off sites like Goal.com that did these kind of transfer gossip stories.

In fact, not so long ago, he wrote on here: "What I hate the most is how certain sites just brazenly and unashamedly lie and make up transfer stories with the sole intention of conning people into reading them."

Now all he does is take tenuous quotes from agents/players and sticks a headline like "Should LFC bid on this £20m midfield star?"
Just in the past few weeks Kanwar has done this with Gaston Ramirez,
Bojan Krkic, Eljero Elia, Stevan Jovetic, Hatem Ben Arfa, Gregory Van Der Wiel, Michel Vorm, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Hector Herrera, Matias Suarez,
    Moussa Sissoko (and many more!!)

Interesting how this U-turn has been made since Kanwar put adverts on this site, with hits on those links providing income which goes straight into his pocket.

  33. where did this whole 30 million budget come from ? nobody here i'm sure knows how much money liverpool have to spend on players ! my opinion is that fsg are not stupid and understand that they need to buy big but clever .. if you look at comparable transfer figures in baseball they are right up there , but if every club knows they have loads of money and will spend it stupidly like the last 2 transfer windows they will up their asking prices ! john w henry has said many times that they need to get into europe , they need it to build us up as much off the field as on it .. do you think also that rodgers would risk giving up swansea where he could do as he wants , just stay in the league and he's a hero , granted have a little budget to go to liverpool where he wont be liked by all be under major pressure from the get go unless he was told at the very least that he would be given a good sizeable budget to buy the players he needs ?

  34. no need to wait. We already know that they have failed to meet their valuation.  Talent is something you can't hide . It has to be there on day one . If it is not there guess what It is never coming.

  35. Jay Blindside, I feel I have to respond to your comment because I feel that Liverpool is a sleeping giant that is about to wake up.
First of all United has widened their fan base because their manager is signing the right type of players. Their fans are excited by these signings. I think that United have a manager who has an eye for really good talent, and he has a great structure set up to develop young talent. Love them or hate them they are getting it done more than we are. They are bringing in people who help them stay competitive can't say the same for our two last windows.  In the past we have saw Benitez go to war with Hicks and Gillette to get more money for transfers which is ultimately why he left.We haven't been as competitive and increased our fan base because we haven't really made the right types of signings. It is a known fact that everybody likes a winner. We do better on the pitch our fan base increases not rocket science. Some could also argue that we haven't made the right types of signings because the funds have not been available for the type of players that could really help our team. Others believe that we do not have the right type of players because the previous managers have not made the right decisions with the funds that they have been given. It could actually go either way. All I can say is that FSG the new consortium that owns Liverpool are working hard to make it more competitive and in so doing increase the fan base. The owners are willing to spend on the team. We saw that when they came in and pumped more more than 100 million pounds into the club for transfers but we know how that money was spent. FSG then went against the grain and fired a very popular manager to hire some body with out a lot of big team experience but someone who is believed to have a better take on reading the modern game. This has shown the the owners are trying to improve the product on the pitch. This summer the American owners are bringing Liverpool  right here to America, a part of the world that has been ignored for a long time by the club. It is an effort to increase the fan base in this country and take away some of the market share enjoyed by United and Chelsea. They have made more appearances here over the years than any other English teams.I think we are well on our way to increasing our fan base. People are like sheep . You just need some good consistent performances and you will get them . The same can also be said about the big name marquee players. We can compete with the likes of United on all fronts really soon.

  36. I've only watched Ramirez once, in the recent Uruguay game (as a sub) and I didn't see anything to impress me tbh.

Being a foreigner, playing abroad, of course he must be a top notch talent that is well worth any figure that may be quoted for him though...

    ReplyDelete
  37. I saw Tom Werner on LFC.tv stating implicitly that FSG can, and I quote "compete financially with ANYONE in world football". So, all this media talk of a limited transfer budget is just that, media talk.
And another thing, all of the players named on here by JK are just speculation, so don't go getting your knickers in a twist over it.

When the club makes an announcement telling the world who has signed for Liverpool, then we'll know, until them, chill the f**k out and enjoy the Euros.

  38. what do the 'stats' say? how many dumps does he do in a week? one a day, regular...great potential. oh hang on, he uses more than two sheets  to wipe....no, forget the fact he scores 30 goals a season and can rip any team apart on his own, his 'stats' don't add up.  welcome to the new way of finding top talent, to take us back up to the elite league. very worrying and depressing.

  41. I agree, I feel like if a name appears in the media enough then as far as some fans are concerned this becomes a must have player regardless of whether that have done anything of merit.. look at Jon Obi Mikel.. a few years back clubs were taking one another to court to sign him and he isn't half the player Lucas is. Having said that Lucas took over a season to produce any form of note..I expect Carroll, Henderson and Downing to be much the same. If as Rogers said, we are returning Liverpool to how they used to be then I hope the transfer policy is similar. We used to find out about Liverpool signings when they were on the pitch next to the manager.

  42. I watched Australia-Japan today. United are getting an exceptional player in Shinji Kagawa. He's a great buy at £16, sadly for us.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Who says we are interested in Gaston Ramirez anyway? I hope we are and get him but no-one knows who we are interested in. Brendan only took over 2 weeks ago and Will have his own ideas on what players Will suit his style of play. Need to have a bit more patience and not believe media BS. Dave Whelan had most of us in uproar when he couldn't keep his mouth shut on SlySports. Look how that turned out. I do hope we get Sigurdson (spelling). He could be a very good buy at 7 mill, fingers crossed.

  44. FANBASE= performance + foreign players.

  45. BR said in his first interview that there is money for transfers, but the money is not flowing out of the barrels...That's enough to suggest we only have small budget. But look at what Newcastle did with the money will gave for Carroll. There is gems out there and BR will spot them. But  Ramirez is not one from what I seen, He blows hot and cold 2 often.

  46. Kuyt was never a bad player. you have no clue what you on about. Kuyt was class even tough he was constantly played out of his striker position.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Correct. Where did this 30mil spending budget info come from? Please post a link or else just wait and see.

    ReplyDelete
  48. FSG have not "pumped 100 million into transfers". 77+million of that 100 million came from player sales.
They have cleared MOST of the debt, which presumably they are now recuperating, since we don't appear to have a 50+ million transfer budget (what we were spending on interest repayments per season) and there is still no movement regarding the stadium.
All they've achieved, so far is to sack two managers and employ and sack a director of football in less than 18 months and sack a boatload of 'behind the scenes' staff. There are now less football savvy employees at the club and more baseball fans.
WHEN we don't make the top 4 next May, it'll be manager number 3 out the door.
They're playing 'Football Manager 2012' with a real club.

    ReplyDelete
  49. The players don't necessarily need to be foreign to increase fan base.

Man United's top selling shirt worldwide is Rooney, LFCs is Gerrard with Carra our third biggest seller!

Teams like Real sign big name English players to increase their fan base (Beckham, Owen, McMannaman).

Not that I'm condoning KK's domestic player policy!

At the end of the day teams are looking increase their fan bases in Asia (especially the Far East) & the USA - English, European and South American players are all foreign to them!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Those names you have mentioned (Kalou & Diame) were linked with LFC long before Rodgers came in. They are all, including Sturradge, utter speculation that you have been reading in the press. Until we formally make approaches for people, it is all hype to sell papers and give fans something to chat about.

How do you know Rodgers is getting £30m? Because you read it on a website?! Do you really think someone high up at FSG or one of Rodgers' inner circle has leaked this info to the media?! They're keeping this sort of info to themselves.
Even if it were true, removing the massively over inflated wages of Aurellio (gone), Kuyt (gone), Aqua (going), Cole and maybe Maxi (going?) would massively increase the transfer kitty.

There are plenty of other ways that the kitty could be effected too. If Man City do take Skrtel at £20m his replacement would probably cost little more than half as much, also I think we should really look into selling Downing back to Villa (£7m) and Adam (£4m) back to Blackpool.

Bringing in Gylfi Sigurdsson and a couple of £16m marquee signings (say Ramirez & Johnson for example) and a £10m striker would set us back £50m and completely transform the attacking style of the squad and there are plenty of deadwood players that can be shifted (named above) who could make up the other £20m if this £30m transfer kitty is to be believed, so I wouldn't worry about it. Its not all Wigan & Swansea players and mid-table mediocrity from here on in!! Why would FSG want that anyway? They're trying to get a return on their investment, which is done by increasing the fan base, which is done by attractive, successful football, and 'big name' signings...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sturridge is in a different situation now, that he was when he rejected us the last time. He was a 'hot property' then after his loan spell at Bolton. He probably saw himself becoming second or even first choice striker behind Torres when Drogba left, but now seems like Hulk will pushing him back down the pecking order, plus he probably feels like he's been snubbed as he's been in better form than Torres, yet can't get the central striker role that he covets.

Anyway, my point is - things change!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Who ever said that we only have 30 million? Who even made that up?
Why are you people saying it like they KNOW lol
    its ridiculous!

  53. Great news for LFC- Harry Redknapp is close to the sack which means Bale, Modric will surely move.

Another thorn out of our way. Maybe next season is our season. I dont think we have any with with Bale or Modric But can we atleast sign Dos Santos- i saw him in world cup. He is a world beater except he cant finish well. Hope he learns it under Rodgers. Wud be a great signing.
