Liverpool will hopefully be on the lookout for a new striker this summer, and one player who could be available is Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic. The Montenegrin international was close to a Liverpool transfer during Rafa Benitez's reign at Anfield, and according to Fiorentina's communications director, the Italian club will not stand in Jovetic's way if he decides to leave this summer. Given his age, ability and future potential, surely Jovetic is exactly kind of player Liverpool should be targeting?
£20m-rated Jovetic has been constantly linked with a move to Anfield over the last two years, and now it seems that he could be available this summer.
Speaking to Reporters yesterday, Gianfranco Teotino - Fiorentina's director of communications - addressed recent reports in the Italian media suggesting that Jovetic planned to leave the club. He said:
"If he wants to leave, then let's make it clear that we do not want to hold anyone against their will. If he believes in this team, then he can wear the club's shirt for a long time. If he does not, then he will not be missed. In any case, it is important that a team makes us an offer which matches his value."
Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Guerini also made it clear recently that the club would consider selling Jovetic:
"The word 'untransferable' doesn't exist. If an indecent proposal were made, and it is possible that one will arrive, then we would take that into consideration."
Fiorentina finished 10 points above the relegation zone in Serie A last season, and Jovetic's fourteen goals and three assists went a long way to saving the Viola from a relegation battle.
A move to Liverpool must surely be a more attractive option that staying at a struggling Serie A club? Jovetic is definitely a realistic transfer option, and if he wants to leave, Liverpool must be in with a chance of signing him...?

Jovetic is definitely a champions league quality player and Liverpool could do with a player like that.
ReplyDeleteBeen waiting for this guy to leave Viola and test himself at a bigger club, especially since Fiorentina are struggling, even though he is still only 22. Although I don't rate our chances of getting him. Reckon one of the bigger Italian clubs will go in for him. I like his style, plays well in the hole behind the front man as he drifts in those awkward spaces between the defence and midfield well. Bit like Totti in some ways.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have him here instead of being on the losing side against him(i.e. the last match we played against the violas), but I think he would attract plenty of champions league team's interest, which might hurt our bid to bring him to Anfield.
ReplyDeleteRafa had a big pull for many top name players, but does rodgers?
ReplyDeleteJovetic has the potential to be a world beater, and id love to see him
at L4. Sadly we are linked with the erratic sturridge for 15m and the
overpriced johnson for 17m. give me jovetic over either of those 2 ANY
day.
Rodgers has limited funds, and probably limited pull.
imagine having a front 3 of hoilett, jovetic and suarez.. with lucas, sigurdsson and Gerrard behind. wow.
ReplyDeletewhere did hoilett come from?? funny how no one from the uk went in for him, and now his german deal has fallen through, he's in talks with the turks.
ReplyDeleteWhat Liverpool need is a midfield playmaker and scorer and they should put all their resources into getting the best player of that ilk available.
ReplyDeletedream on sonny
ReplyDeleteRafa is the past. Get over it!!
ReplyDeleteHe ousted Liverpool once out of CL, seriously I don't know why it takes so much time for Liverool to go for young talents.
ReplyDeleteHe can play in midfield or in wing, would be great addition to replace Kuyt.
Better than Sturridge definitely, and maybe Aquillani can be used as a bargaining tool.
get him he is a world class player
ReplyDeleteRamirez over this has been any day of the week.
ReplyDeleteSo is King Kenny lmfao your point?
ReplyDeletePretty realistic if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteJovetic- what a player. You know one thing we fans seem to know which players to target better than our manager(Just ask Kenny). Hey JAmie, you shud be incharge of transfer business. You always seem to bring out great players. Wonder why we target Sturridge when we can get De Jong, Jovetic.
ReplyDeletei think that there are a large amount of free players available that we should also target hoilett, diame, chivu to name just a few
ReplyDeleteAdam Johnson, Luis Suarez & Daniel Sturridge - with Gerrard, Aquilani and Lucas behind.
ReplyDeleteWould be quality.
And very attainable.
But i won't happen.
Alas.
I know everybody loves to act like all English players are crap, (maybe because of the money that was wasted by Dalglish) or that a transfers from abroad automatically have far more flair & quality than Premiership purchases, but Sturridge is a top notch forward.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm concerned, he, and Adam Johnson, are easily as good as anybody else we're going to be linked with this year.
Yeah fairly realistic...!!! I think Billy got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning. !!!
ReplyDeleteAgain...an attractive option...!!!
ReplyDeleteHe is right they are cheap enough and are playing for crap clubs
ReplyDeleteAs much as potential transfer targets are being discussed here regularly, it seems like BR and FSG are not making any moves for new players. Neither are they selling some in the present squad. It's quite a worrisome sign for LFC. There are too many positions that require reinforcements, critically at the forward/striker and winger position. If BR needs to sell before he buys, then he should be getting his ass moving. Else 2 scenarios will happen, a last minute panic buy of another 35 mil pounds, half-season premier league wonder kid wannabe or stick to the original 35 mil pounds, half-season premier league wonder kid wannabe that scored only 4, yes, 4 premier league goals for us in the entire 2011-12 season.
