After two defeats in the group phase, Holland need a miracle to qualify for the quarter finals of Euro 2012, and it seems increasingly likely that FC Twente striker Luuk De Jong will remain bench-bound for the crunch match against Portugal. Speculation about the youngster's future continues to rumble on though, and Louis Laros - De Jong's Agent - has once again reiterated that the youngster is waiting for offers to leave Holland this summer.
Speaking to Portuguese sports newspaper Record on Thursday, Laros said:
"De Jong is waiting to decide his future, but I have not received any proposals yet.
"He has a contract, but any offers that come will be fully considered"
A couple of weeks ago, Laros confirmed that Liverpool were 'closely following' the FC Twente star, and De Jong - who scored 30 goals for Twente last season - has regularly stated that he's open to a move abroad this summer.
€15m-rated De Jong has been linked with Liverpool several times in the past year, and Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert - Steve McClaren’s No.2 at FC Twente - believes that the youngster 'is going to be the No.1 striker for Holland in the very near future"
In my view, Liverpool should make De Jong a priority transfer. If he's available for such a comparatively cheap price, where's the risk? After losing out on Marko Marin, Lukas Podolski, Papiss Cisse, Nikica Jelavic and Xerdan Shaqiri this year, I sincerely hope the club gets its act together in the transfer market this summer.

He scored 30 goals this season. Liverpool scored 47 as a team.
ReplyDeleteThats 63%.
Brendan, put a bid in quick. We need a goalscorer.
ReplyDeleteStill can't believe we didn't even try to get Shaqiri, he was exactly the kind of player that Liverpool needed to sign.
ReplyDeleteWe need this guy he is class!
ReplyDeleteSeems there's another guy we just MUST have every other day. Take a deep breath folks. You'll probably whinging about what a flop they are in 6 months anyway...
ReplyDeleteIt is quite obvious that Liverpool are NOT going to attempt to buy this guy. He is available, young , talented and a very very good price at around £12M perhaps a bit less . Were we interested the deal would have been done already.
ReplyDeletewho watches him all ur goin on his is goals hes scored in a grim league
ReplyDeletebest thing about that youtube video which was repeating was the song playin in the background he thrives on crosses when we all ready av the best header of a ball already at the club so y go for a second rate player
ReplyDelete2 things 1) last time i looked we still used sterling not euros asour currency wht persist with placing euro values is it to make players seem more expensive. 2) Remember the last great dutch hope we signed still waiting for him to fulfill his potentional andi suspect he never will
ReplyDeleteWe need proven experience if we are to get back as a top PL club
The defending was so poor if you watch the video. Let's be realistic. He will never get that kind of chances in the English League. This is why Dirk Kuyt has struggled with goals. Kuyt was also a goal machine back then in the Dutch League. Mateja Kezman was also a goal machine but fail to shine in English League. I have not seen great technical skills like those of Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Robin Van Persie or Arjen Robben in this guy to suggest he is a worthy buy. More importantly, I didnt see a dribbling skill that beat 2 or 3 defenders prior to scoring.
ReplyDeletehe lacks pace, and as someone above mentioned, who's to say he will develop into anything special. kuyt was a goal machine in the dutch pub league, and he has one of the worst first touches ive ever seen by a pro footballer.
ReplyDelete15m is a fair wack, and he could be worth a punt, however, i feel someone with more pace and guile would work better playing with luisito and or AC.
If we're going to play tiki taka football with Rodgers I don't see why we would need a striker to dribble past 3 defenders. How old is De Jong? Plenty of years to develop. Who would you consider instead?
ReplyDeleteI saw a YouTube video with Brandon Rodgers being interviewed by a northern Irish fella about soccer skills or something.
ReplyDeleteHe was asked about the northern Irish team and their players; Rodgers said that they would 'run through walls' for you, but that's not enough!
He said that skill and what they did as a default setting, just being themselves, instead of trying to be a pele or some such other, that that was more or as important when he assesses a player. That one comment gave me great hope for future buys, in that someone referred to Dirk Kuyt, now I'm not saying against its just that sometimes I feel we as a club champion mediocrity and it does my pedantic head in.
So Jaimie why not write a piece about moving away from mediocrity and getting people's opinions about whether Brendon Rodgers is right to put skill and natural talent as important as passion and commitment.
About this guy de Jong I wonder if the same rules apply as they do when picking youth for the step up to first team:
Are they one step quicker in thinking than everyone else?
Do they seem to be in the right place at the right time every time?
Are they anticipating the ball far far quicker than everyone else?
Are they that much quicker in pace and footwork than the others surrounding them?
Etc
If this de Jong is then he might turn into van nistelroy!
Man we are so slow in the transfer market every freaking season thats its sickening me. All our previous targets hulk, hazard, kagawa etc are being snaped by our rivals from under our nose and we are still doing nothing. This slowness will cause us to rush at the end of the window to land our targeted players and we will be held in ransom like with caroll. Also i dont think we will go after such players like dejong. We are just being linked everyday with rejects from other teams like sturridge, johnson etc, or bosman players like kalou or even players in mediocre teams like diame who are not even highly rated in their own team. Now we are taking back an old joe cole who did not do anything extra in a below par league like ligue1. What the f*ck is wrong with LFC? I hope these are just rumours...else we are doomed!
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with you that Liverpool tends to do badly in transfer market, it's fair to say that hulk, hazard and kagawa were out of our reach given our lack of CL.
ReplyDeletethe player that you are describing is suarez 'some dribbling skills and also a possibilty to create some chance' we need a player that can finish we created bucket loads last season but never finished them
ReplyDeleteis this the famous anti LFC site?? where all the so called plastic fans get together, and do nothing but moan, and whine, like washer women?? run by a guy, who is a laughing stock among fellow writers and proper LFC fans!! Fans that like to support their team, not pull it apart!! Jamie Kanwar's writing, is more buyest than the sun, and has just as many agenda's!! and you people that follw him, shame on you!!
ReplyDeleteI think it will be different this season it's not going to be wholesale changes, I think brendans got to be shrewd with the money he's got there will a few out the door Adam, maxi, spearing and a few replacements probably, who knows who de? Jong would be a good signing for the right price!
ReplyDeleteI know I'm like a broken record, but the actual approach play was good last season. We just needed a finisher, so as you say Bob wholesale changes aren't needed. I'd certainly rather we got De Jong than Sturridge who flatters to deceive.
ReplyDeleteThe game against Fulham showed how weak we are in midfield with no Lucas or Gerrard, and the lack of goals from that area was chronic, so maybe that needs strengthening?
he is at the euros, he wouldnt be agreeing to meet with any clubs til after he gets back so a deal wouldnt be done by now
ReplyDeleteagree with you deaththekid. i cant beliv that we are being linked with sturridge. johnson i wld welcom but not for 15 m as it bng rmrd. he looks more mobile than carrol can use both feet n has a gud first touch can make assists as wel. johnson, dejong, siggurdson n a defensive midfielder. but a question that begging is if say we get these guys then charlie adams, henderson, downing, rodriguez, gerrard shelvey, spearing lucas, joe cole, put name of defensive midfielder here , a winger, we nid 2 sell 2 free up space n wages. IMO we wont be attracting top players n we are challenging for 4th so what we can do is breed our reserve academy this season to the first team, suso, sterling n pacheco who can be used as a back up striker should be given more chances. since its being said that rogers is in no pressure to win. sell charlie, spearing, rodriguez downing let cole go. i think we should kip aquilani for a season.
ReplyDeleteline up nxt season
pepe
kelly agger skrtel enrique
siggurdson gerrard lucas johnson
suarez dejong.
bench
shelvey, henderson, carrol ,coates, sterling ,suso doni
Yes, positive! You are spot on, mate. The only hope now is to buy unproven, young and cheap, something like getting Kagawa from Japan. Star players won't want to play for us, 8th in the league, no CL to show for and under a relatively unproven British manager. The only thing I can pray for now is that we never buy unproven and young players for super expensive prices again.
ReplyDeleteKuyt was hardly ever played up front when he came to England. Plus we don't need a dribbler, we need a poacher.
ReplyDeleteKuyt and Suarez were both 'goal machines' in Holland, and whilst not scoring as many for LFC, Suarez was our top scorer last season, and Kuyt the season before.
ReplyDeleteApproach play good last season, blow transfer budget on 1 young good player a season that will stay and play at club for years, 4 seasons 4 world class players. Use coaching skills to improve potential of good young players at club like Sterling, Henderson, Coates, Shelvey, Kelly. Personally I'd blow all transfer money this season on Leandro Damao a good quick young skillful strong direct centre forward, not playing for a big european team.
ReplyDeletei think this type of player will ideal for the LFC and this target must be his first priority.De Jong and Suarez in front , this will be mortel.
ReplyDeletei think manager must consider ability of the players now de jong, huntelaaaaaaaaa llorente RVP are available plus pointing back Suarez scored alot goals with huntelaaaaaaa in Holland .What we are waiting for?
ReplyDeleteNewCastle have already bid for him... I am not sure we are gonna get anybody whom we had already been tracking for a while.
