Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has emphatically confirmed that he wants to sign Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson.
In an interview with the Official Liverpool FC website yesterday, Rodgers praised the midfielder's 'positive contribution' for Swansea last season and revealed that he'd already discussed a possible move with Sigurdsson 'and his representatives'. He said:
"Like I've said to him and his representatives, Swansea has to be his first port of call.
"However, If he comes into the market for whatever reason then of course I would like to be in a position to put our case here at Liverpool to sign him".
€9m [£7m]-rated Sigurdsson grabbed seven goals and three assists in seventeen starts for Swansea last season, and he recently made it clear that he expects to leave the club:
"I expect not to stay at Swansea. My desire [is] to continue playing in the Premier League and Liverpool...is a big club that has a glorious history"
Reading between the lines, I think it's safe to assume that Sigurdsson will be a Liverpool player next season. Rodgers wants to sign him; the player himself wants to leave, and after a courtesy meeting with Swansea, he'll almost definitely move to Liverpool.
Reds fans will definitely be happy about the move. In a survey last week, 88% of the 7500+ participating fans voted YES to Sigurdsson's signing.

Jaimie Kanwar
again with this Kanwar? seems like you're keen as well of getting sigurdsson, do you really think hes good enough to wear this shirt?
ReplyDeleteAren't those 88% the same lemmings that wanted Dalglish as a manager .. and think that Carroline is actually a quality player?? Seriously.. who cares what the fans want...
ReplyDeleteSo Hoffenheim want more for him because its Liverpool. Tell them 15 mill
ReplyDeleteeuros for him & Babel. Then go get Drenthe for free. Then sell Downing &
Adam for 20 mill euros. There we have our attacking midfielder,& 2
lightning quick wingers,no money spent,2 useless big wage earners off
the books.Babel,Drenthe attitude probs? not with BR in charge. My app.
for seat on the selection committee is in the post.
Yes, I think he's good enough. Plus, for 7m, you can't really go wrong. Sigurdsson is in his early 20s, and if it doesn't work out, the loss on him will be minimal. If we were talking about 10-15m I'd be more skeptical, but 7m for an obviously quality player seems fair to me. There's also the added bonus that he's worked with Rodgers before, so that pre-existing relationship will (hopefully) smooth over any transitional problems.
ReplyDeletei think he is definitly good enough and he is young.
ReplyDeletealso we have already seen him play rodgers type of football
HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU POSTED THIS SAME STORY,
ReplyDeleteGET A LIFE YA COMPLETE BORE
So was Downing adam carroll before they came to liverpool and.....we know rest of the story
ReplyDeletebecause andy carroll has played like 35 million pound striker his liverpool carear so far. Large transfer fees dont always mean guarenteed success. Hyypia cost about 2 mill, did he play like a 2m player??
ReplyDeleteThis lad has proved that he can hack it with the best in the EPL, and two pluses are that he is cheap, has worked with BR. Good article JK
ReplyDeletedid you think kronkamp was a good 4million player?
ReplyDeletehe is a really good and skilfull player and he is going to fit perfectly in brendans plans and tactics
ReplyDeleteWhy are we reading all this again?
ReplyDeleteRodgers made these comments yesterday, so it's a new story. Should I just ignore it because I posted a story about Sigurdsson a few days ago? This is a different story, and it is newsworthy.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend that Adam and Downing be sold if they are as useless as before in the 2nd window, remember how we raved about Shelvey? He will replace Gerro one day. The issues I feel deserve attention is def-mid, ps Diame [passed his cardio tests at a private London clinic], Wanyama can be the other two cheap but effective options, frontline- Soldado, Djokaev, Dzeko are some of the available options, wingers who are not bothered to take on an opponent are there at the Euros, I believe we have pple on the ground, just excited for next season.
ReplyDeleteJK could you do an article on the available Bosmans?
ReplyDeleteHi Daniel - good idea; I'll add it to the list.
ReplyDeleteConsidering we just missed out on nick powell to the scum, i think sigurdsson is a very smart buy. These opputunities won't come around often for us aswell, because we just simply can't attract the top proven players at the moment unless ridiculous wages are thrown at them (sorry for the cliche). So Sigurdsson is a must, not only will he provide great attacking instinct and quality missing from our midfield, he wil provide greater competition, which means there is a greater incentive for players like Henderson and Adam to impress. Their positions were never really under threat last season and you could see that in their too often mediocre performances. If we sign him, well done Mr. Rodgers and good article JK
ReplyDeleteyes get him he is amazing
ReplyDeleteI'm completely with Jaimie on this one, for a change. My two concerns are that one, Hoffenheim will put up the price if LFC want to buy and two, I hope that Rodger's sense of honour doesn't end up getting Sigurdsson to consider staying at Swansea, particularly as Laudrup may be seen as an attractive manager.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Sigurdsson is definitely good enough, so I hope that we get him.
you can go wrong for 7m.......charlie adam. (make that 8m)..good grief it gets worse!
ReplyDelete"amazing"??? don't get ahead of yourself. 'amazing' is someone like inesta, xavi (lets just say spain). i would say, capable.
ReplyDeleteDifferent story, yeah right. I suppose when you're paid by advertisers per view, it's worth regurgitating the same story over again, except with new a sensationalised headline. Quality not quantity Jaimie.
ReplyDeleteHis header last night was that of a £35m player! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think he means: "We read these exact quotes yesterday on every LFC site on the internet, so why are we reading them again today?"
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he'll do one as soon as Steve Nicol says something about them that he can copy & paste
ReplyDeleteyou do, otherwise you wouldn't be on a fans gossip site! put your brain in gear before typing!
ReplyDeleteOnly cos he keeps being asked about it
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed! Watched it also in slo-mo and it looked classical. I only hope he can remember how he did it when he gets back to Anfield - smile!!!
ReplyDeletechallenge free..........he is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteIf he isn't stifled and is allowed to express himself he could be a really good player. WHO WAS VAN PERSIE before Arsenal signed him for three million? A left midfielder with talent. Who knew that given the right setting he would develop into one of the most sought after strikers in the world?
ReplyDeleteUsually there isn't alot of difference technically between most skillfull players. If a player is backed and is able to create an aura for himself and thrives under the pressures of top level football he has a chance of going to the top.
Let's wait and see.
P.s. "Eff" Harry Redknapp. What he allardyce and Megson tried to do to Rafa in the name of Fergie was bang out of order. What goes around comes around.
I'd say gifted.
ReplyDeleteDid read that it was part of the loan deal Swansea figure was 7m....they will now probably ask 9m ..Liverpool not the only club interested..
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!!
I am starting to like your articles
ReplyDeleteStop clogging the thread with pointless comments. If you want to bitch about this site then go and do it somewhere else.

Rodgers has no sense of honour - and neither it seems has Sigurdsson. Liverpool are welcome to the both of them.
ReplyDeleteThank you we will take them off you with a smile :)
ReplyDeleteSigurdsson is still young and if anyone watched him last season then they will know that he has loads of talent.
ReplyDeleteBye Bye Aquilani who has to be the most pathetic signing LFC has ever made. Good riddance.
That's One of Rafas great signings for you! Sigurdsson will definitely be a great accuisition for 7/9 million you can't go wrong. We've been linked with that many players over the summer it's ridiculous, Brendan said that he's looking to bring in 1 or 2 players that will benefit us straight off! I wonder who they are???
ReplyDeletei know its a long shot but it might just be a case of getting the right manager behind them to get one or two of last years flops playing good football again.
ReplyDeletewe can only hope though cause they were awful last year
same artice over and over - its old news and he will go to Swansea because he knows Togers will besacked by Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThese reasons are sound enough for me.
