"LFC are interested!" - Cyterszpiler confirms Reds want £12m 'El Loco'. Bid?

The Agent of Fiorentina star Juan Manuel Vargas - nicknamed 'El Loco' has revealed that Liverpool are interested in signing the Peruvian winger this summer.

Speaking to TMW last night Jorge Cyterszpiler, Vargas' Agent, admitted that there was a strong 'possibility' that Vargas 'could leave Fiorentina' this year, but seemed to suggest that a club in the Champions League could be a more attractive option for the player. He said:

"Liverpool are interested, but there is also Malaga who can give him the prestige of playing in the Champions League.

"Does he have a preference between the Premier League and Liga? Vargas would appreciate either League, though Serie A also has its merits"

£12m-rated Vargas has been linked with Liverpool several times over the last couple of months, but to be honest, I would rather see the club go for his team-mate, Stevan Jovetic.

Even Vargas' Agent admits that 'he did not have a great season' for Fiorentina last year, and although Cyterszpiler says that he 'eager to make up for it next year', if Vargas can't cut it Serie A at the age of 28, what are the chances of him making a splash in the Premier League?

Creative stats over the last two completed seasons:

* 4 goals in his last 50 games.
* 12 assists in his last 50 games.
* Goal scored ever 825 minutes (One every 9 games)
* Assist every 275 minutes (One every 3 games)

Not the greatest stats at first glance, but overall, Vargas scores or creates a goal every 206 minutes (one every 2.2 games), which is a better ratio than any of Liverpool's current creative players, including Luis Suarez. 4 goals in 50 games is, however, a concern, and Vargas would need to significantly improve on this at Liverpool.

Worth a bid? Possibly, but definitely not at £12m. £7-£9m max, and it's not as if Fiorentina are in the strongest bargaining position.

  1. If any player we may buy from Fiorentina, it should be Steven Jovetic!

  2. I remember a certain Dennis Berkamp who was unable to 'cut it' in Serie A but came over here and did more than OK. Then there was his team mate a chap called Thierry Henry who also couldn't 'cut it' in Serie A (albeit he was young at the time) and he came over here and if I recall I believe he was considered a success??

  3. Good points. Bergkamp - what a player. How I wish he'd played for LFC. An absolute genius. Same goes for Henry. Arguably the two best attacking players the Premier League has ever seen.

  4. Varga is no Bergkamp mate

  5. So Much Speculation on Players coming and very little noise from the club. Just rumour after rumour we learnt more from Dalglish and co than we have heard this summer. Come on Brendon we dont expect you to give us chapter and verse but since your appointment seems the only thing you have done is visit your old school !!!!! (for the dimwitted this is a joke.....remember them !!!) What plans have you got to make us great again, have you decided who you want to keep, have you got realistic potential incomings. Just a snippet any snippet !!!

  6. He has had injury problems in the last few seasons which has basically disrupted his momentum as a player. That has been Viola's big problem in the past seasons with injuries to key players such as Jovetic and Vargas (who were a deadly duo together against Bayern in CL so long ago) and as well as of course the Mutu issue. Whereas Jovetic has time, Vargas doesn't have much time left before he hits 30. If he is cheap, I'd go for him. He can operate at left back as well as further forward. He got a decent assist record last season for a player that only started 18 games.

  7. i share your frustration about the lack of movement in the transfer market. It is troubling if the manager's only top targets are simply players that  he used to work with on other teams. Makes you wonder if he has the ability of spotting  new up coming talents in the transfer market. I don't want to bash the new manager but so far i am far from impressed by anything he had done  simply because he hasn't really done anything other than talk up his new pass and move foot-ball strategy he wants to bring to Anfield. We have been linked with everybody under the sun and the tooth fairy will be linked with us in the not too distant future . As we hear of Man U signing two players and and then guess what Arsenal have signed two players, oh and guess what ? Chelsea close the deal and sign one of the most sought after players in Eden Hazard.  The only activity in Liverpool has been the players who have left and the return of Aquilani and Cole. We all know what happens when you wait till the last minute to make your move you end up paying an inflated price for your player.

I would love to see him become more aggressive in the transfer market it gives the impression that improving the talent pool is a real priority

  8. Who says we are not active in the transfer market? just give it time, players signed will be unveiled soon

  9. I would like to stress that a Johnson/Vargas combo will be the greatest attacking option in the EPL, we haveto focus on our weak areas only.Skartel seems to be edging for a move or new contract [which is the  main concern - agents need the money], I deserves one however his approach is incorrect.  We really need a sriker, De Jong, Soldado, Martinez etc and two good wingers to replace Kuyt, Maxi [if he goes], Downing and we really need a def-mid player, possibly Wanyama [watched him play in SPL] Jodie Classie, etc.  MacGregor is available for second choice keeper at LFC, he will be great signing for us.

  10. Don't think FSG will approve buying this player who is 28 years old and already had a poor season. Gone are the days Liverpool are going to pay high transfer fee or salaries for aging players. Perhaps he should try reducing his wage demands and Refuse to leave unless his club brings down their asking price. No resale value and Liverpool would not want to pay more than 20 000 per week in salary. Like wise Skertle will be sold for 20 to 25 million and that is what FSG is all about, sell by date for maximum profit. That is the moneyball model practiced at Liverpool. Skertl thought that Liverpool will make a bigger counter offer to extend his contract. Times have changed because the FSG model will look at players taking a pay cut when their contract runs down. Only top top players will be retained while the rest will be sold when the time is up between age 28 and 31. FSG will probably make an exception for only Cara and Stevie G. Liverpool will not be held to ransome again from and Skertl is about to find out the truth and regret his mistake of making in appropriate demands.

  11. Carra we all agreed his-sale-by-date is gone, its about time we learnt to utilize him as defense coach at LFC whilst he works on his coaching badges. Coates has been in a strong defence unit at national level, we did not buy him for show but to play, its time for bringing in the new/fresh talent we have. The kids deserve a chance at the euro competition.

yeah!give him time until the window closes then we realize we are going no way.man, last minute moves are dangerous, watch Carroll!we are just calming ourslves down with the lie that he is improving!Carroll will never fit in LFC's style of play unless if he is to invite Jesus for some miracles.BR is playing it the KD way,i wouldnt be shocked if he brings in more flops like KK.

  14. Too late for Vargas now.

  15. I agree with all the above.

I agree so much that it should really be credited as my idea.

  16. Vargas is 28 years of age to buy him would be against FSG's buying policy so this transfer will not happen.

  17. Nothing more than his agent trying to push up prices and increase competition for his signature. How many of these stories can be published with "clubs interested in X or Y" and with no bid ever emerging before we stop wasting our time

  18. The transfer window doesn't actually open until July 1st and Rodgers said very clearly that he was going to hold his cards very close to his chest. It's not important for the club that fans be given some kind of heads-up advance notice of every player we enquire after. Of course it's frustrating, but perhaps consider the reason you're frustrated is because you have unrealistic expectations, not that the club is actually doing something wrong.
