"I want to leave" - €15m Argentine LFC target admits 'big club' ambition. Bid?

A few months ago, the Agent of Anderlecht striker Matias Suarez confirmed that he'd held talks with Liverpool FC over a potential move to Anfield, and now, the Argentinean attacker has confirmed that he wants to leave Belgium this summer, which could open the door to renewed interest from the Reds.

Speaking to Argentine radio station Cadena 3 recently, Suarez - who grabbed an impressive 20 goals and 19 assists for Anderlecht last season - said:

"Anderlecht want me to stay until after the Champions League qualifiers, but I want to move on.

"I want to move to a bigger club in a better league. My agents are dealing with it at the moment"

Suarez has been linked with Liverpool several times over the last six months, and his Agent, Jorge Cyterzpiler, recently confirmed that he had "spoken with Liverpool" about a possible transfer.

Cyterzpiler also hinted that his client would leave in the summer, and this was later confirmed by Anderlecht General Manager Herman van Holsbeeck.

The €15m-rated 23 year old has an excellent record of 47 goals and 40 assists in 157 games for Anderlecht so far, which equates to a goal or assist every 1.8 games.

Luis Suarez came from the Eredivise, which is arguably on a similar level of quality to the Belgian league, and he took to England very quickly; perhaps the Uruguayan's namesake could do the same.

Suarez won Belgium's player of the season award in May, and he's arguably a very realistic target for LFC.

  1. I would like to see Suarez-Suarez link up for Liverpool :)

It's good to see when players you-tube compilation is backed with some decent statistics as well.
He has good scoring record and good assist record which is very good if you take in to account that most players find it hard to settle in quickly so even if he is not scoring right away he could be valuable addition to the team by helping others score and be involved in creative aspect of the game too.

I would like him in Liverpool but the club needs to be smart not to pay to much and, like with Luis Suarez, use players willingness to leave to negotiate good deal. Not to pay premium like Chelsea did with Lukaku.

  2. It's really hard to tell with players from those leagues. It's a huge difference in terms of physicality and pace, which can be very troubling for attackers. I do (kind of) trust the scouts to account for that in their decisions, but 15m are not pocket change and with the squad in need of multiple signings, I just don't know whether this is the way to go. Also, Carroll is finally showing his true colours and I feel like the time we gave him would be wasted, if he didn't get to play now. I'm 50/50 on this, at best.

  3. Looks to be exactly the type of forward I would like to see in our attack, pace, skill, strength, aerial ability, able to link up play and an eye for goal. If he would give up champions league to play for us I think we'd be onto a winner. Both Andy and Luis could do with some healthy competition.

  4. Wasn't Milan jovanovic from the Belgian league? That wasn't too clever now was it.

  5. He looks very similar to Suarez, the type of player that would fit
    BR`s dream team.

  6. After Jovanovic i would be very hesitant taking any striker from Belgium on a free let alone paying 15 million.

  7. I honestly don't think think we will get more than 3 players tops this summer. With the return of cole and potentially aquilani, due to their high wage and hard task of shifting them on, I think FSG will really push Rodgers to use the pair. So I think any further players bought in will be no more than 10m tops. It's not necessarily a bad thing but I don't think we should all have such high expectations. We're always being linked with ridiculous people, but at 20m and 30m and no champs league we need to be realistic. Rodgers, I'm sure will do a good job with what we have and probably so minor adjustments in players.

  8. He is a great player. Liverpool should not miss this opportunity. We have been linked with many good players in the past but we drop our interest and end up buying crap like Downing.
I wish things change at Liverpool now.

  9. Can't compare Matias Suarez with Luis because eventhough before moving to Liverpool Luis played in dutch league but even then he was Uruguyan international and was their best player whereas Matias is not an international yet.
Still think Matias is good enough to make an instant impact at Liverpool as he looks technically very good. I would be happy if Liverpool start buying more technically good players, Liverpool have to change the past recruitment trend of buying workers over quality and Matias would be a welcome change.

  10. A player must have
play for his country in at least 75% of its competitive A team
matches of which he was available for selection, during the two
years preceding the date of the application.

    Noch chance for Liverpool/M.Suarez

  12. It's completely different situation here. This is younger player who has good technique and ambition to take his carrier forward.

Take a look at Jovanovic's you tube, not as nearly impressive.
He was at Liverpool for big pay day and was never going to succeed in Liverpool.

  15. Yeah unless he wants to join MANURE then all that nonsense is put to one side.

  16. The big thing in Matias' favour is he is South American and they seem able to fit into any style of football regardless of the country. Yes i believe he would be a great signing.

  17. He won't get work permit to play in England, it will be very difficult because he hasn't represented his country and is overage to be considered for special young talent.

  18. Goals are what stikers are judged on and 40 goals in 157 is not a great record. Need a prolific marksman up there!

  24. ...another player that seems to be ready made for the liverpool team and style of play..i say we wait it out..In Brendan Rodgers we trust..lets wait and see what the new man has in store for us...

  25. I think we could get him relatively cheap if we agree to let him play for Anderlecht in the CL qualifiers. It is not like we have to worry about him being cup tied.

  26. it will be a good signing as two suarez will be playing foward!!They will understand each other....

  27. Will likely go to Bayern. Word is they made an offer already. And Bayern are certainly the more appealing club.
