€7m striker who had secret meeting with LFC confirms: "I'm for sale!" - Bid?

At the hight of the January transfer window, Inter Milan striker Luc Castiagnos had a secret meeting with Kenny Dalglish to discuss a possible move to Anfield. Unfortunately, Inter would not sanction a deal, but things have changed over the last six months, and the Dutch starlet has now confirmed that he is available for a transfer this summer.

Liverpool have been linked with inter Milan striker Luc Castaignos several times over the last year, and during an interview yesterday, the 19-year revealed that he was 'disappointed' not have shown his worth at Inter, and confirmed he would be leaving:

"Inter want to sell me, so now I must go, and Inter will help me find a club. I am sad and disappointed not to have shown my worth, but this is football.

"It's a decision taken by the club and by me. Now I want to join a big club. In the coming weeks my agent and I will see what club is best for me. "

€7m-rated Castaignos played only 180 minutes of football for Inter last season, scoring one goal along the way.

At the age of 19, Castaignos can't really expect to dislodge the likes of Milito, Pazzini, Forlan, and Zarate at Inter, and if he came to Liverpool, it's likely that he would also struggle to be a first-team regular.

Still, Castaignos is undoubtedly talented, and would probably improve the club's attacking options. Worth a bid?

  5. We don't have money (or time) to waste on buying expensive 'project' players that can't come in and immediately improve the first team.

There is no reason that we have to remain in mid-table for several more years, but the chances of that happen will increase considerably if we continue to invest in players that are not ready to contribute at a higher level for several more years.

I want to see us buying players that are 23-25 years old - i.e. players just about to hit their physical peaks, that have had a few years of experience to learn from their mistakes elsewhere. I know nothing of this kid, but he hasn't done appear to have done much more in his career than kids in our reserves like Ngoo or Morgan. And we're not going to be getting £7m if we shift any of our lot.

  6. I think that he would actually start to challenge for a starting place in the Liverpool as from what is shown in the video (which is admittedly not much) he has good strength, touch, and most of all he can score goals whether they're tap-ins or long shots. However the same sort of variety can't be seen from some of the current strikers... *Cough* Carroll *Cough*

  8. If he was that good or had any real potential then Inter wouldn't be selling him.

Inter had a poor season, with one of their biggest problems being a lack of goals. If he wasn't good enough to get into a team that can't score then we shouldn't get too excited about him I don't think.

For the same money we could get Demba Ba.

  9. The lad had a good season before he was moved to Inter, a bad move, most of the big clubs did how various levels of interest, he is good but as Jay Wright stated its time to buy players that have reached peak, we have enough youngsters already.  Newcastle have bid for Luk de Jong whom I regard as good striker as our interest seems to go.  I am feeling that BR will buy more average players and that may cause more problems in the next season, as he seems to have avoided/avoiding to buying some of the targets we had already watched and/or approached. premier league experience always counts against new players, but Ba, Pavluchenko etc. can still be brought in.

  11. He falls in same league as Connor Wikham. I think £7 million is a bit too much for 19 years old unproven potential.
Inter got him for £2.5 million and didn't play him much last year.

Sometimes I feel Liverpool scouts should be shot dead. They never find young talent at cheap price themselves. When some other club finds, they splash money to buy player. Some online research and a few trips to  Europe can save them millions in transfer market.

  12. That is what I said in the post...

  13. Just for the record I would be willing to shoot a scout dead. Football scout, boy scout, whatever I'll do it.

  15. I wouldv'e taken him if he didn't expect to gain too much first team time, and if he wouldv'e cost up to 3.5m.
They can't expect anyone to pay more than that for an unproven 19 year old who managed to win only 180 minutes of first team football for the last 12 months.
Seems like a decent propsect though. *Sigh*.

  16. Pick him up on a loan?

  17. Agree with Kenny.  Pick him up on loan with a buy-out clause kicking in after he plays a certain number of matches.... then stop playing him one match before that and try to renegotiate the price down (or loan him for another year).  Hell, why not, it seems to work for the other Milan club?

  22. Castaignos is better than Borini or De Jong. If we can get him, we should. His style is very reminiscent of Henry.

  23. The owners need to back B Rodgers with Transfer Chest of £85-£100M if we are to get back into top 4 in next few years. As we finished 8th last year spending outlay of £35M, as £115 was spent on players brought to club, but £78-£80M was recouped on player sales last season also. (Torres, Babel, Bennayoun, Poulsen, Koncheskey, Meireles and Ngog)

So £35M was the net spend on players last season, this summer B Rodgers should be given £80-£90M to spend on 8 class/quality players.

1: B Matuidi Of PSG should be brought for £7-£12M   to compete and cover Lucas for Defensive Enforcer/Midfielder Position.               DM

2: A Cissokho Of Lyon should be brought for £4-£8M to compete and cover Enrique for Left back position.                                         LB

3: Coutinho Of Inter Milan Or G Sigurdsson Of Hoffenheim, One of these players should be brought for £7-£10M to compete with Aquilani and Shelvey for the AM position.                                                     AM

4: A Lennon Of Tottenham should be brought for £10-£15M to be play on right wing.                                                                             RW

5: S Sinclair Of Swansea Or C Nzogbia Of A Villa, One of these should be brought for £5-£19M to compete with Downing for Left wing Position. LW

6: M Susaeta Of A Bilbao should be brought for £5-£12M to compete with    Lennon for Right wing position.                                                   RW

7: L Castagnios should be brought for £4-£6M to compete with Bellamy, Caroll and Suarez for FD Position/Role.                                        FD

8: G Rossi Of Villareal should be brought for £10-£17M to compete with Bellamy, Carroll and Suarez for FD position/Role.                            FD
