VIDEO: Liverpool 4-1 Chelsea. Henderson, Agger, Shelvey goals...

In an excellent attacking performance, Liverpool hammered Chelsea reserves 4-1 at Anfield tonight to ensure the club went out on a high in the final home game of the season.

Liverpool's players came out of the blocks like gangbusters tonight, clearly determined to put Chelsea to the sword and gain revenge a small measure of revenge for the FA Cup Final defeat on Saturday.

The performance overall was admirable, it's just a shame it came three days too late in what was essentially a 'nothing' game.

  1. if only we could play like that during the whole season...

  2. Hakeem - you probably could play like that all season if you played against a reserve team every match

    ReplyDelete
  3. Typical that you have to put a negative spin on things, mentioning 'Chelsea reserves' as if we were facing an understrength side.
Can't you just be happy for once?

  4. Carroll was close to unplayable! He was never really a Liverpool player till he got booed off the pitch at St. James' Park and has been improving tremendously since.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think henderson should be a supersub next season as it will ease the pressure on him and he's stiLl very young.  Carroll immense and is now looking like a liverpool player, total respect to the guy for coming back from a poor start to his liverpool career, pity we cannot say the same about DOWNING, HAS TO GO THIS SUMMER NOT GOOD ENOUGH, MCMANAMAN'S TOENAILS HAD MORE TALENT THAN DOWNING THE  PENALTY MISS IS ANOTHER SIGN THAT HE'S NOT MEANT TO BE AT OUR LFC......NOT SURE HOW MUCH MORE EVIDENCE PEOPLE NEED FOR GODSAKE!!  GOOD WIN FOR MORALE BUT OVERALL VERY DISAPPOINTING SEASON AND HOPE WE SHIP OUT THE CRAP OVER THE SUMMER AND KENNY GETS THE SUMMER TRANSFERS RIGHT OTHERWISE WE'RE IN BIG BIG TROUBLE!!

  8. Well done to Shelvy and Henderson. However, we defintely know there's a lot of distance between Peter Chech Chelsea's #2.

  9. Sorry, I meantto say we "know there's a lot of distance between Peter Chech and Chelsea's #2."

  10. As I said, get over it.  It was Chelsea reserves, and it was a nothing game.  The CL is lost; we'er 8th in the league, 34 points off the top.  Total regression in the league, and tens of millions of pounds wasted.  What's to be happy about?  What's to celebrate.  The season is not about one or two games; it's ten months long, and tonight's win achieves nothing in the grans scheme of things.  That's the reality. The battle was won tonight, but the war was lost months ago.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Lets get one thing clear, Chelsea NEEDED to win this one......now they have to hope that they can win the CL final in order to get into CL next season....

Bayern at Munich will be REALLY up for it.....

This gamer is EXACTLY the reason why i don't want rafa back at the Club......the style of football we played tonight was all off the front foot, ATTACKING football.....great to see us playing like that, really made my night tbh.

As for this game, well, what can i say....a formidable performance one that has re established some belief in where we are headed...

I have defended the brit signings this season up to a point, and tonight they proved that they CAN fit into our style of attacking play and actually enhance it........

Carroll was fantastic toinight, and this is why i want us to keep him, the guy has loads of potential.....a massive headache for Chelsea tonight, created all kinds of problems....held the ball well....distributed the ball well....made runs into the box....got back to defend....only thing missing was a goal. He is going to be a BIG player in the prem and IF we offload him we will regret it IMHO.

In fact Hendo and Shelvey were both great tonight, Downing played well and was very unluckiy not to score tonight, his first attempt is proof of what he can do and will do if we keep him....

Carra played well, once again dispelling the myth that he's useless and past it etc...granted he's getting old but the gut still has class IMO.

Reina was questionable for that goal again, but the save later that denied Chelsea was long overdue.....

Suarez wasn't all that convincing yet again, granted he made a few impressive runs etc but once again the end product was missing with him, the goal i think was a little lucky.....

Anyway, at least we didn't have ENRIQUE playinmg tonight, i thought Agger did a fine job, Maxi played well also, Skrtel was lacking for effort either so all in all we were good for the win, the fact that we just battered those mugs and tripped them up in the prem goes some way to healing some of the wounds inflicted by that lacklustre final........

    YNWA.

  13. I was going to post 'typical negative comment' after that 'reserves' thing but I find myself agreeing. Tonight we played well but it papers over cracks.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Downing was poor again against a guy who has about 5 appearances this season for Chelsea.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Too little too late against a 2nd string Chelsea. Rafa did it to a first choice Madrid! Very selective in your comments.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Downing was awful against a youngster

    ReplyDelete
  17. You missed out Downing!
He needed to score that penalty, the commentator said he might have slipped a bit before he struck the ball but he should have ran over it and put his foot through it as Turnbull dived early. His looping volley was unlucky though.
Henderson did well for his goal and Shelvey's was a cracker.

This is how the team has played for the majority of the season but the end product has been lacking. Chelsea's double woodwork strikes were their bit of bad luck and it was good to see the opposition doing this for a change. I just wish this was the first game of the season rather than the penultimate one.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Terry, Ivanovic, Torres, Sturridge, Essien, Ramires...reserves? I don't think so!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Downing missed a pen. Set up nothing. And lost Ramirez for the goal. Yeah- he had a great game!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh, and as for this being a 'nothing game' it now means Chelsea have to beat Bayern Munich to qualify for next season's Champions League and, if Newcastle win at the weekend and we beat Swansea, we go above Everton,  thus ensuring a summer without the endless ribbing from the fans of a team with a smaller budget than a window cleaner.
Nothing game, can't you just be happy for once?

    ReplyDelete
  21. basically it's a team that won't be used at all for the CL final

    ReplyDelete
  22.  Mitzsu your fickleness is a joke. Originally you defended the British signings, when they became indefensible and until very recently you were slaughtering them. Now after one good performance they're all brilliant.

I also think Carroll played well tonight, Suarez overall was definitely more of a handful for the defenders. You write off all of Suarez's good work because of the lack of end product yet its fine for Carrol to have zero end product. To call The Suarez own goal lucky is not fair on him. It came on the end of an excellent run and after he put the ball in a very dangerous area. I know who i'd rather have stay next year

    ReplyDelete
  23. damn almost cried when maxi waved goodbye

    ReplyDelete
  24. U Stuck the boot into Kenny about the nothing game against Fulham we lost with our reserve team.
I bet you had something ready prepared similar if we lost tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  25. There was still 8 internationals in Blue tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Shut up you plonker, yes i have defended the brit signings but i have also criticised them when they have not played well.....same goes for any player....

I stick by what i say, Downing played well IMO not great but definitely well, FFS we won 4-1 in a prem game against Chelsea which might not have meant much to us but it did mean something for Chelsea.....the pass and move system was working well tonight and it was more of a team effort than the final was for sure.....

Being fickle is when you classify a player as being shite....and then change your mind....i havn't done that though plenty of others have.....

Making a judgement of a player is subject to their form....which of course will vary at times....all players have off days occasionally....some players need confidence to help their game....some don't....some need a team to be playing well to benefit....some don't....it's not that easy to asess our squad this season because we have been so inconsistent and so have the performances......

Your point about Suarez and Carroll and how i defend Carroll for his build up play and overall perofrmance yet find no good about Suarez is incorrect....

I made reference to how Suarez made some good impressive runs etc BUT IMO his overall game was once again below that of Carroll who had a more positive influence on the team just like he did in the final where as Suarez makes runs skews shots loses the ball, just doesn't have the same impact on the game....

Just not convincing IMO, his attitude is all wrong also and he could EASILY have been red carded when he tried to knee cap Ivanovic? i think at the end of the game....VERY reckelss and unnecessary....

With Carroll i feel that his heart is in it completely and i think the fan's want him to succeed because they are seeing his potential and they like him....? Is that SO wrong?

I think you have to give credit where credits due....

But hey don't let me stop you from trying to find flaws in him or me......

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thats it in a nutshell, lets just enjoy this fcuking game...the performance was uplifting, the result was also, great to get one back on the chavs so quickly after their final celebratiions...that would have wiped the smile off their faces for sure....

    Loving it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I know Chelsea were fielding an under strength side but man, if the lads had played like that on Saturday they'd probably have brought the FA Cup back with them.

Good result, better performance than usual in the league, still work to do though so, while pleasing it's not to get carried away with.

    LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  32. no such thing as reserves. 25 of the best  players are registered, in order to be called upon when selected. if they are not good enough, clubs do not have to select that many. so,for example, torres, he was not selected for quite a few games this season, sturridge got the nod. does this then make torres a 'reserve' player? i think not.

    ReplyDelete
  33. agreed. no excuse for teams like chelsea, united and city. with the squads they have. more so chelsea and city

    ReplyDelete
  34. Some people would have - nothing like cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.

    ReplyDelete
  35. i hope you enjoy your season. as your squad is worth far more than ours, don't you think you have under achieved? europa lge next season? i do hope so. just think though, if you do happen to win in munich....you will be as good as villa and celtic!!! but not as good as forest. GOOD LUCK BAYERN, MAKE OUR COUNTRY PROUD OF YOU.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You said. "but once again the end product was missing with Suarez". He has scored more and created more than Carrol. Why does Carrol escape your criticism when he has been so much more guilty of this and was once again tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  37. our keeper is hardly mustard anymore, same goes for cech. but yeah he was poor. class from shelvey, many would have flapped and fluffed it

    ReplyDelete
  38.  You also very recently called for Kenny to go, let's see if you stick by that.

    ReplyDelete
  39. anyone agree wat souness saying about suarez deliberatly playing the ball off essien for the goal!!! ???? i think its a good possibilty, south americans have that instinct.

    ReplyDelete
  40. lol, you are just a very unhappy bunny arn't you.....

    :)

    We won FFS, enjoy it...!!!!

And quit trying to expose me you, im a LFC fan and tonight i am VERY happy.

Nothing you can say will chnage that...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sorry, just the moment i saw you write things about players deliberately throwing games, everything you said started annoying me

    ReplyDelete
  44. The goal of the game for me HAD to be Shelvey's.....what a hit THAT was...

Made up for the lad tbh, deserved that goal, played well tonight and moments like that are priceless IMO, Chelsea were just beggining to get their heads up a bit after that soft goal.....

Great hit, one that would have made even the great Gerrard proud.

    Get in!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thats okay, thats what forums are for....

I have my opinions and i stand by them, but i don't want to discuss anything more with you as i suspect that you are unhappy that we lost....

Could be wrong about but then again you could be wrong about me also...

Best we leave it at that for tonight, and i'll look forward to debating other points with you where perhaps we might evenm see eye to eye...

    Ya never know..!!

  48. The team only shows up at the very last home game of the season where results mean nothing. KD screwed up the whole team throughout the season. He bought the players and chose the team for all the games. He must be held responsible and has to go, along with his expensive flops, AC, JH and SD! I hope the kids are giving him a grand farewell game in this one.

Including the four goals tonight, LFC has scored 24 goals in 18 home matches, 2 less than Blackburn Rovers. If this is the outcome of a 100 plus mil pounds investment plus an inheritance of a squad full of internationals, sad to say, FSG made one of the most silly decision ever in sports management in hiring KD for the job. Money into the drain like spilled milk, not retrievable anymore. Go find a manager that is great in doing rebuilding work, somebody in the mold of Arsene Wenger.

Nonetheless, it's still a positive result for LFC tonight. A grand farewell night for KD.

    ReplyDelete
  49. What was Suarez playing at yesterday? There were one or two bits of, what seemed liked, violent conduct. Both involving against Ivanovic. One was a attempt at a forearm smash and the other a deliberately trying to kick him in the lower torso (bit like the one at Spurs, against Parker). Talented he maybe, he is certainly a odious little character.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Like I said on another thread before the game, I knew this side would 'turn up' last night as that is what it does once in a while against big teams. So not surprised at all by the result.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Ashley Cole and Obi Mikel made all the difference for Chelsea. Without Cole, Terry and Ivanovic had no protection down their left flank which was where Johnson, Suarez and Downing were causing them all kinds of problems. The absence of Mikel also allowed Suarez and Hendo to cut through their middle with ease.

Shelvey may have been a far superior partner for Hendo than Spearing and Gerrard would have been because of their balance - Shelvey thinks, Hendo accomodates/compensates, but certainly the absence of both Lamps and Mikel meant Chelsea's midfield anchors weren't very steady. Romeu and Essien didn't look very ready, neither did they press enough. Chelsea's front 3 had virtually no support.

That said, we may have indeed had a better chance of bringing the cup back if Shelvey played in place of Spearing and Carroll started. Gerrard wasn't fantastic in the final. However, hindsight is always 20/20.

    ReplyDelete
  52. So after the poor taste that was the booing of the national anthem on Saturday (especially after RIGHTLY criticising fans disrupting the Hillsborough minute silence), could hear LFC fans chanting 'Munich, Munich, Munich' in the game last night. Ok, Chelsea play Munich in the CL final but no, I won't be naive and pretend to believe it wasn't sick disguised pop at Man United or at least meant in two ways.

    Classy, really classy(!)
Football fans are a bunch of tribal neanderthals sometimes, they really are.

Was a Cracker of a game! i'm Just Happy Spearing & Enrique neva played. Spearing is a waste, he only play becus he is from the youth, he won't make my local sunday team! and Enrique neva eva looks good going forward, compare him to Johnson and you will see how weak enrique is!

Was a good game all in all... n Downing had a decent game, better than Kuyt on the right!

Shelvey was good on the night, but will he eva be a Gerrard? I think NOT, he not good enough to take us to the pin top of the League... we need to start thinking like this!

  55. i think people are a bit harsh on reina. i too, have been annoyed by his numerous beatings on his near post, this season. generally though, he is a very good, solid keeper, the spanish national side would not select him for their squads otherwise. every keeper has dodgy moments and confidence issues. neville southall, who despite being one of 'them', recently said reina was the best keeper in the prem. now 'big nev' was a hell of a keeper,so i trust his opinion fully. actually i think 'tookoo' aka david james, was our worst goalkeeper, i genuinely do. i could not wait for him to leave. if we are talking cock ups and general frustration/annoyance,then he personified that.

    ReplyDelete
  56. you fcking moron. This is 6th home win out of 19 matches. That made you so proud with the performance? You are total disgrace to football. You are the only alien who praising the team for the win yesterday against academy range players. Have you watched the game? we were with full squad, and Chelsea were without senior players. Di Matteo doesn't even bother resting his key players. Idiot the whole season has been a failure.. How can you judge a player with just 2 games? you moron. Last season Carroll scored two goals with Man City, after that he was crap.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If you had been to the games you would realise we HAVE been playing like that all season (up until the Wigan game, anyway). The only difference last night was that we had 4 shots on target, and scored 4 goals. Compare and contrast that to the Swansea game when I am estimating we had 10 shots on target and none of them went in.

The other difference last night was the confidence an early breakthrough instilled in the team, whereas previously you could see players visibly wilt when chances started to go begging.

The worrying part of the season as a whole was the way the players let the Arsenal defeat shape their whole season. Everyone knows we were "unlucky" (!!!!) to lose that, but the players never really recovered from that producing a run of one point out of 4 Home games [Wigan -L, Villa -D, West Brom -L, Fulham -L].
The players seriously let themselves down the way that they (apparently) gave up, because those 11 extra points, from 'winnable' games would have put us 3 points off Fourth Place, with one game to go.

    If only.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't know how some fans are so excited with the result we won yesterday. The whole season has been failure. 6th home game win in 19 matches. We played against Chelsea reserve, cant you all see that? CL Final is more important than yesterday league game for Di Matteo. The game was not important for him, chelsea playing for fun!! we are doll. Shelvey goal - what is so special about it? When he scored, the chelsea was not even inside box, what is so special scoring goal with empty net?

    ReplyDelete
  59. He (allegedly) asked to be released from his contract last summer. Maybe that was why he didn't feature as much as we all hoped he would?

    Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  60. There's still time....

    Perhaps the "cuff" on Ivanovic?
Or the back-heel that "accidentally" caught the same player?
Or the waving at the end to the fans - surely a 'Goodbye'...........?

Frankly I'm surprised that he hasn't called on Carroll to be "sacked" by the Club for celebrtating a goal that the Officials deemed to be not in. Blatant cheating, anyone?

    Nurse!

  64. the problem is mate some people have become sad, desperate and an embarrassment to the club and im surprised none of them and have come out and said well atleast we have the best playing surface...know what i mean!!! This is why we have not won the league since 1990, we have lowered our standards and lost the winning mentality culture, thanks to the deluded and sentimental bunch.  Living in the past or history does not count for nothing theses days, its all about the present and football is a business and you need to thrive for No1 as then you will get worse case 3 or 4 position.  You aim for 4th and well do i need to say anymore.
I've been supporting lfc since i was a kid (27yrs) dont see me living in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  65. nope that's not true we haven't played like that the whole season, if you watched the game properly this time maybe for revenge's sake everybody gave more, in my opinion it was maxi and suarez who drove the attacking movement forward, they were everywhere, maxi ran like crazy even helping that do*che downing when he was loosing the ball, please we managed to create clear chances, the midfield played quite solidly, never happened b4 especially with adam couldn't pass the ball with the tempo of the game, maxi nicely proved he can do that passing to hendo who scored, shelvey played exceptionally well, caroll was a menace. Look the only time something like that happened it was with Oldham, the other games our 'great' football was stopped in front of the penalty box. wake up Kenny got the tactics right because he saw in the F.A. cup chelsea was struggling with us when we played 4-4-2 unlike most games we did hold the midfield, there was a structure, btw we played against chelsea B, never the less nice win.

    ReplyDelete
  66. agree mate, its all about how much u wanna it and self belief. You need to man up and show people if u have the talent off course. Total respect to players who graft and spit blood for the team. I'm afraid in Downings case I said at when we signed him he'll be out of his depth and not a talent that warrants a red jersey.  I even had a bet with a mate this season that he'll not score in the EPL.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Shelvey could potentially do a good job at a top club. Spearing (and Flanagan likewise) will never be anything other than liabilities however.

Dalglish bottled himself to the wrong horse(s) and should do the honorable thing at seasons end, of stepping down, or stepping up - whatever the case may be to ensure that Liverpool have the opportunity to take on a progressive, hungry, modern manager asap

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think Andy is a tremendous talent but never had the right attitude before. I believe that up till he got booed off at Newcastle, he still felt he was a Geordie and was harbouring hopes of being sold back to them. It took a harsh rejection from his former fans to remind him he is a professional who should do his best for whoever is paying him.

Fully in agreement about Downing. Downing is a robot, he would never have fit into a system that relies more on flair than tactics, which funnily enough is the exact opposite of Joe Cole! Joe would have worked better for Dalglish if he was given the chance. Downing is more Rafa or Hodgson's kind of player who would guarantee a level of consistency provided he is given clear and total instructions. Goals and assists aside, all his other stats are similar to what he did at Villa - that means what he does clearly doesn't suit our team.Since I'm at it, I may as well comment on Henderson too. Henderson seems to be where Lucas was in the 2010-2011 campaign, which speaks volumes about his rate of development. He is adapting to our team faster than Lucas did. Like Lucas during that season, Henderson is more a reactive player than one who initiates. How well he works with Shelvey is testimony that he is a fantastic extra pair of legs to have if some other player has the vision. Hendo is fast, accurate and is an all rounder in terms of technical ability. What's frustrating is that the ball has to come to him, or he becomes invisible - except when defending, where I think he does a decent job, but maybe because the ball is coming at him.

    ReplyDelete
  69. nah i don't think so all season kenny's been trying to prove his signing aren't sh*t leaving better players (shelvey, raheem, coady, maxi, kuyt) to get the bench

    ReplyDelete
  70. Fact is, whatever Chelsea needed for their league position, their team only contained players suspended from the champions league final and, probably after a night celebrating beating us in the game that really mattered, their star defender looked as if he was still hungover or maybe had someone else's wife on his mind, because his performance was atrocious. our last few wins in the league have come up against teams who have not looked up for the game. Norwich were poor against us last weekend, every goals was a result of their mistakes, everton and chelsea made 6 and 8 changes respectively and, before that, Wolves were just, well, Wolves. If Swansea come out fighting on sunday, i don't see us getting more than a point from that game, although i think their system has been worked out, to some degree, as the season has gone on and they will find next season a lot tougher.
