Savicevic: £20m LFC striker target is a 'great talent'. Rafa wanted him - Bid again?

Liverpool should be on the lookout for a new striker in the summer, and one player who could be available is Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic. The Montenegrin international was close to a Liverpool move when Rafa Benitez was in charge at Anfield, and if Jovetic is going to be available, which seems to be the case, then he's surely the kind of player Liverpool should be targeting.

£20m-rated Jovetic has been constantly linked with Liverpool over the last two years, and in an interview with Radio CRC recently, Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Guerin made it clear that the club would consider selling Jovetic::

"The word 'untransferable' doesn't exist. If an indecent proposal were made, and it is possible that one will arrive, then we would take that into consideration."

This week, AC Milan legend Dejan Savicevic claimed that Jovetic is good enough to play in any team in the world:

"He [Jovetic] can play for any club in the world. He’s demonstrated some great qualities. Just think back to what he’s done over the years. Do you remember the game against Liverpool in the Champions League? We are talking about a great talent. His future will depend on what Fiorentina decide to do on the transfer market"

In March 2011, Jovetic's Agent Fali Ramadani revealed that Liverpool had made an approach for Jovetic:

"I can confirm that last summer, Liverpool had asked me about Stevan. The deal did not go through because the player wanted to remain in Florence".

Fiorentina are hovering just above he relegation zone in Serie A at the moment, and Jovetic's has fourteen goals and three assists have gone a long way to saving the Viola from the drop. In such circumstances, Liverpool must surely be in with a chance of signing the youngster this summer?

  1. Surely Fiorentina can't hold onto him for much longer. Classy player but time to leave the Fiorentina bubble. They have been under performing since Prandelli left (although they weren't doing that great in his last season there I think), as they have some good players like Jovetic, Vargas, Amauri, Montolivo, etc. Jovetic is very much a second-striker-type player.

  2. Looked a real player a few years ago Jaimie. Has had a lot of injury problems since his stellar showing against us. After the Aquilani disaster, i'd be reluctant to spend big on players with a history of bad injuries. Granted all players are different and that was Jovetic's first big one.  Hell of a player when fit and healthy

  3. why would he come to a mid table outfit who will only feature in the europa league, and who have a relic as a manager?

  4.  I would like Jovetic at Liverpool but cant help but think he would be played out wide not as a striker great talent would set liverpool alight.
They would still require another lone striker type if they were to bring him in.

  15. you call yourself a fan of LFC? You're attitude is pathetic. SHAME ON YOU. He saved us from Hodgson's unfortunate spell. Do you watch the games or just look at results? We are playing good football on the whole. The build up play and chance creation is great. It's just the finishing. KK can't control that aspect of our play. That's the players and luck. Defensively sound also.

  17. If his agent is indeed Fali Ramadani, we should not sign him. In Germany Ramadani is regulary under suspicion of bribing managers to pay inflated transfer fees ... of which he then gets his chunk.

    For example:
    - A player's real worth is 10m.
    - Ramadani signs a contract with the selling club, that he will receive 10% of whatever transfer fee he can negotiate for that player.
    - Then Ramadani bribes the manager of the buying club with 1m, such that the manager will sanction a 20m transfer.
    - Ramadani gets 10% of 20m = 2m, pays the manager 1m and earns 1m himself
    - Buying club ends up with a 10m player, but paid 20m.

He is accused of doing that in Germany by several respectable newspapers like Handelsblatt, Süddeutsche Zeitung, FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung).

Last April I met with a Football Industries MBA graduate from the University of Liverpool at a sports economics conference in Prague. He claimed to be friends with several Liverpool greats of the past and they apparently told him that Rafa Benitez took part in such dirty deals while being Liverpool manager ...

Those kind of deals happen everywhere in football though. 75% of all transfer are estimated to include some kind of corruption ...

  18. He showed class yesterday and was unlucky not to score an equaliser. As per numerous ex-players who know the game far better than you or I, judge him on next season........

  19. Jovetic wide yes, a lone striker NO...we need a goalscorer/poacher of the ilk of Ian Rush to partner Suarez.

IMO Soldado who would be available at a decent price...Suarez & Soldado.....that could be reminiscent of Dalglish & Rush.

  20. Or Rossi (I know he's an ex-manc but he's turne into a proven finisher...)

Villareal are also in need of selling a big player or two...chances are Barca will go in for him again though...
