Manchester United's recent defeat to Manchester City means that the league title is (thankfully) no longer in their hands, and if City win their remaining two games, Alex Ferguson's team will be denied a 20th league title. All Liverpool fans will be hoping City can do it, I'm sure, and that includes former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, who believe's United's carelessness against Everton could ultimately cost them the title.
In an interview with Eurogoals, Benitez highlighted the Everton game as the point when things changed in the title race:
"It was strange. Man United were comfortably winning 4-2 against Everton, and it seemed like everything was under control, but then Everton scored, and they panicked.
"In the end, United were overconfident, and they got one point when everyone was expecting three, and they lost the advantage [in the title race]".
Benitez went on to dismiss United's chances of winning the league, arguing that City's potent attacking threat gives them a distinct advantage:
"City are doing well, and they have confidence. The Aguero-Tevez partnership is doing well, and they also have Silva, Nasri and Yaya Toure, which is a big threat in attack"
There are few more satisfying things in football than seeing United lose out on trophies, and like all Liverpool fans, I'm sure Benitez is delighted that the Mancs have choked at the most crucial time in the league.
In an ideal world, no Manchester team would win the league, but if you have to choose one, it would have to be City, even though making that choice is like deciding whether you want to be shot or stabbed.

have both - get yourself shot and stabbed
ReplyDeleteMan Utd NOT winning the league has become the new title win for us in the last 20 years, Come on City, finish the job!!
ReplyDeleteQuite sad that you feel the need to write an article about utd's failings this season, when your 34 points behind them, battling it out to actually finish in the top half of the table. Is thus what Liverpool fans are reduced to, now that your a mid-table club
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck this IDIOT wit a capital 'I' is talking about ? Why doesn't he tell us why nobody wants him as his manager?
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't he tell us how we are not going to see your digusting backs in the Champions League again next season. It is becoming a habit of U lot not participating in your '5' star Trophy so that one day you'll become at leasst only once WORLD CHAMPIONS like my beloved MANCHESTER UNITED !!!!!!
UNITED TILL I DIE & UNITED NEVER DIE!
Got to admit that it made me really uncomfortable after the City-Utd game, so many Liverpool fans on various forums had a real go at the Man U supporters. All I could think was 'well considering the season we've had this behaviour will probably come back to bite us', then that... whatever it was against Fulham (it certainly wasn't a performance).
ReplyDeleteThe really sad thing is that Utd will probably rack up titles 20, 21 and 22 before Liverpool are even a threat to them again.
Christ I'm depressed today :(
once again Liverpool fans are obsessed with talking about united.
ReplyDeleteFergie is ten times better than Dalglisg - full stop
ReplyDeleteBased on last night - ANYONE is better than him - we have to face facts - he is doing a terrible job - worse home record in LFC History - this is not an opinion - THIS IS FACT -He is out of his depth completely FENWAY AND JOHN HENRY are also doing a lousy job
ReplyDeleteRafa should mind his own business. Can as well talk about Liverpool which was his team anyway.
ReplyDeleteWell, I certainly hope and believe that my beloved City will soldier on to win the title. If so, we would be proud to do it, not only for City, but for Pool and their fans as well. United has been dominant for a long time, but it is an arrogant and disreputable club that has never displayed the class that Liverpool FC has over a very long period.
ReplyDeleteLet's face the truth, you Reds - you've got a creaky squad with a pushover midfield, an overrated defense, grotesque Yank owners and debt of 700+ million. Time for your club to continue the long slide down the slippery slope to footballing oblivion. Liverpool will win the Prem title before you sorry lot do again...!
manures deserve to lose the grip now that the rich oil-greased citizens are well funded with expensive millionaires. I am not a fan of mancity but definitely not fan of the arrogant manure
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately it is. Still fun though!
ReplyDeleteactually, we'd have him back in a shot!
ReplyDeleteRafa is great,he has been the only person ever to stand up to "Ol Plum Nose".Even when Fergie had all his creeps trying to bully Rafa because he couldnt do it on his own ie Bruce, allardyce,Redknapp, Rafa still stood by his principles and never once lost his self belief, unlike the King having to apologise even though he didnt want to or mean it.Rafa is a man of principles and honour,if Rafa is asked a question he has a right to give an answer.Rafa is coming home believe me it will be the biggest welcoming party ever in the history of sport.
ReplyDeletewhat a f*cking moron you are.
ReplyDeleteOur club still hasnt recovered from the mess that the fat twat benitez left us in, buying endless rubbish players and blaming everyone but himself for his failures. I hope he realises this.
ReplyDeletewell yeah . . .
ReplyDeletespeak English you manc c***
ReplyDeleteyeah me too - although now they are ahead of us already it really doesn't matter if they get 20 or 21 . . . we can still hold on to the European Cup record for a couple more years at least!
ReplyDeleteSpot on.
ReplyDeleteWe Liverpool fans a real hypercritics we go we go on all the time how Everton are obsessed and bitter about as, but we are guilty of exactly the same thing with Man Utd.
ReplyDeleteI'm a city fan and I actually like Liverpool, I sort of bond with them with my HATRED for Man United, I do understand the Kop not being fans of City though, Also, I do think Liverpool need Rafa back, King Kenny seems to not know what hes doing anymore, im sorry to say
ReplyDeleteLiverpool won the League Cup.
ReplyDeleteNext is the FA Cup this weekend.
Manchester United lost in the League Cup, FA Cup; then lost in Champions League and then the Europa League.
Liverpool only compete in 3 competitions this year; mayb will win 2.
ManUtd compete in 5 competitions but may end up trophyless.
What a shame, right?
Liverpool is in Europa League next season, the tournament ManUtd had never won in history and got knock-out this year. Liverpool prefer to be in a tournament they had a chance to win than in Champions League than even ManU was knock out in first round.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool is 5 times champion of Champions League and 3 times champions of Europa League.
ManUtd only have 3 Europe Titles only.
United fan here...United were the second best team that mught. But i think the kop could should start comming up in the bpl and then become cocky and arrogent.
ReplyDeletethis coming from someone who is still out of a job after been fired from liverpool, to me he just another arrogant spaniard who need to go home and stop claiming unemployment benefits here
ReplyDeleteOnly the best compete in 5 tourney's instead of 3. I don't like 2nd but they are still in the Champions League. Is Liverpool? Negetive
ReplyDeleteKenny Dalglish will always be a hero but I really can't wait for Rafa Benitez to return. I just hope KD is not fired though.
ReplyDeleteLet's face the truth, you Blues- despite your goal difference, you're only level on points with a creaky squad with a 70 year old manager, an ageing midfield 38 and 37!! Who've been without Vidic and Fletcher since November( the equivalent of Kompany and Barry) and it took £1 billion to get this far! I'll give you the grotesque owners remark though.I can't imagine life without football, bloody hell.
ReplyDeleteI hope yr right mate. Dream come true. VAMOS BENITEZ, VAMOS
ReplyDeleteFucking mancs
ReplyDeleteOn a irrelevant note, Papissssssssss!!!
Two terrific goals tonight
another johnny come lately city plastic supporter who has probably never been to a game....you're already becoming a laughing stock like the nob liam gallagher....whats that his 3rd game of the season!!!
ReplyDeleteChampions League > Europa League, regardless of how slim the chances are of winning CL. Its the best club competition by a mile, as well as the more financially rewarding one. Amusing yet sad that a person prefers being in Europa League over CL. Its like preferring the Community Shield because a team has a 50/50 chance of winning it than being in the FA Cup where the chances of winning it are much harder, even though the FA Cup is by far the bigger competition.
ReplyDeleteYou lot are painfully embarrassing !! BIGGEST WELCOMING PARTY IN HISTORY ?? DREAM COME TRUE ?? Wasn't that what you were saying when KKK was on his way back ?? Sad, Deluded, Desperate and Bitter ? YES !!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletefour asshole ! 3 european cups & 1 cup winners cup ! plus 2 world club championships & a treble 2 things liverpool have never done !
ReplyDeleteWell in Rafa, perfect timing, I've been waiting for this.
ReplyDeleteOnce again you glory hunters from London, can't spell.
ReplyDeleteMANCINI >>>> BACON FACE (.)
ReplyDeleteWell in, hope you enjoy your title win, all the best YNWA
ReplyDeleteCan't wait til end of the season to compare Manures glittering bare trophyless cupboard to Liverpool's one or possibly two silverwares! All with our so-called flop team and manager!
ReplyDeleteWhat in the hell is a manc doing in a LFC blog?! Damn, sad life these mancs lives. We suck, but why are you hating still?
ReplyDeleteAfter Young cheated to give ManUre 6 points, I'm glad justice prevails. C'mon City!
ReplyDeleteAnd the possibility of a finish as low as 13th if we lose our next two games and our rivals win theirs. Oh the joys of bottom half football!
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the days when Liverpool fans had ambition?
stfu
ReplyDeleteThat's all true. But United have had 20 years to develop a winning attitude which is why they're challenging with this squad. It would still be an achievement if City win.
ReplyDeleteUtd fans are just as guilty- they always chant 'are you watching merseyside?'
ReplyDeletehas Bentiez got a job at the moment though?
ReplyDeleteyeah but the difference is that they have something to gloat about, we don't
ReplyDeletei used to hate united but that hate as now turned to man city, they have a bunch of selfish money grabbing players who don't give two s***s about the club, it's money that as ruined the game and it's all about getting rich, it makes me sick when they kiss the badge on their shirt to me they are kissing the money the club as, i hope city will fail and fail big and the arabs will take their money and invest it in a club who will not bow down to the players like city as with tevez
ReplyDelete/\/\/\ Shut up you bitter london manc, your times up.
ReplyDeletepuki ma............
ReplyDeleteGooo liverpool go.. you r the champion........
ReplyDeleteCall youself a manc? Do one bertie scouselover
