Official: Steve Clarke quits Liverpool out of loyalty to Dalglish...

Steve Clark has quit his job as Liverpool's first team coach in an apparent show of loyalty towards Kenny Dalglish, who had his contract terminated earlier today.

This has been confirmed by a reliable source, and I'm sure news of Clarke's departure will filter through very soon.

An hour ago, Clarke was 8-1 fourth favourite to take over from Dalglish as the Liverpool manager, but that's all moot now.

Clarke accompanied Dalglish to Boston on Sunday and was present in the review meeting held with John Henry and Tom Werner. That same night, the former Chelsea coach attended the Boston Red Sox - Seattle Mariners game at Fenway Park, as the image below proves:

Steve Clarke quits Liverpool

EDIT: The Clarke story has now been confirmed by every major news provider. Examples:

The Guardian: "Steve Clarke, Dalglish's assistant, has also left the club out of loyalty to his fellow Scot" - CONFIRMED

The Independent: "Dalglish's assistant, has also left Liverpool out of a loyalty to the outgoing manager" - - CONFIRMED

BBC: "Steve Clarke, Dalglish's assistant, has stepped down out of loyalty to the 61-year-old Scot." - CONFIRMED

My source was correct, and this site was first news to break the story.

EDIT 2: Irrespective of what Ian Ayre says, Clarke has gone, and it will be announced as soon as LFC's new manager takes over. The club just wants to keep it under wraps right now, for obvious reasons.

On a related noted: This is how the Official LFC website announced KD's departure:

Liverpool Kenny Dalglish

Slightly disrespectful to refer to a club legend like KD by his surname only, no?

  1. I remember a certain Lucas Leiva being barracked with abuse from short sighted people like yourself a few seasons back. Look how he turned out. Good players take time to develop unless you pay top dollar. People seem to forget with these new rules coming into play soon from UEFA. That we are going to need as many English/ homegrown players as possible.

  4. Some people on here still dont get and come out with the this its not the liverpool way, get a grip!! And we thought it was only Kenny who had been out of the game for a longtime.  Like it or not the premiership is a competitive business and the game has been changing for a longtime on and off the pitch.  If u cannot handle that then maybe look at supporting a championship team.  There is no sentimental values in todays game, I've had to expect that and been watching lfc since the 80's....chelsea and man city have proved that money talks, cant beat em, join em!!
It's a cruel world out there and survival of the fittest!!.
Kenny is too nice and out of his depth for the way the game is today.  Still a legend so lets keep it that way.

Kenny thought he was back in the old days
i think what did him in was the amount the owners gave him and he basically bought british....

  10. yes, many fans, including myself disliked him, and yes he turned out to be great but if youa re going to argue with me regarding him, then keep in mind he was brought in from Brazil wand was not used to the english game, whereas the players you are defending, well good luck with that. As u said above good players take time to develop unless you pay top dollar, i mean wow, we paid 35m and 20m for hendo and carroll! now i know now you will say it was not their fault, so yes before u use any point think of what you say matey! and with the home grown rules, people also tend to forget that in the home grown rules, there has to be minimum number of home grown playes in the squad which consists of 24 players, so i'm going to suggest you to do a bit more research on how many players does our club consist on, it's not even full so yes there you go, spaces to fill up! anyway fellow liverpool fan, i'm just eager to see what the new manager does with the players KD bought. Except for Enrique and possibly Bellamy, i don't think the others are safe!

  13. Who's going to leave now, Nick? I'm sure I've read somewhere that Suarez would follow Kenny out of the door.
Whatever happens next, it needs to be quick. I don't want Martinez, I'm sure he's a good guy but I really don't think he's up to the magnitude of the job. If we get him and he proves me wrong, then I'll eat all the humble pie in the world. I'm not sure Rafa is the right man for the job either but if they're willing to back him, he could be - and he'd come without a compensation payout to an existing club and could be in place by close of play tomorrow.

  19. Tactically outdated, are you serious?
We've outplayed every team we've played in every game we've played this season with the exception of a handful of games. We've smashed the post & bar almost 40 times and missed half a dozen penalties. Only 4 teams have created more chances than us this season - are Man Utd's tactics that much better than Kenny's when they've had 47 less goal scoring opportunities in the league this season? Does anyone know anything about football on this site?
Sometimes I feel like I'm on a Jeremy Kyle forum with the attitudes and comments of some people on here.

Devastated with the King gone..to think if only we had scored half our shots that hit the woodwork and half the penalties we missed the king would still be manager and liverpool would have collected an extra 10-15 pts meaning challenging for the top 4 if not gettin back in there...ynwa king kenny..as for our next manager i think we should look at Joachim Low or Carlo Ancelotti..i think either would be good for the club instead of some the names already being linked..my fellow fans thoughts on these candidates???

The only question is whether the new man will get the push at Christmas or next May, because top 4 ain't happening next season, now.

  30. did you watch the fa cup? even the espn commentators were screaming for change after 20 min, also part of tactics is team selection, KD's has been dismal this year, overpaying on henderson as a central midfielder and then CONSTANTLY playing him in the wrong position, also Agger at left back, come on, for real.
and as for all the bad luck, ah we missed an hit the post, have you stood between the sticks of premiership goal, it bloody huge, aim in the middle!
then there's the buy's, OMG. i won't even start incase of meltdown.

  34. I'm a bit embarrassed reading this blog at how few people have actually thanked Dalglish and Clark for stepping in when we needed them most. For forgetting how good they were at the end of last season and how the club was lifted, quite literally, from the doldrums. Kenny has been one of the greatest servants of this or any club and he deserves to be respected as such.
I wanted nothing more than Kenny to step in and lead us back to the pinnacle, and I do think that given time, he may have achieved some great times again at liverpool. Unfortunately, he probably made a couple of poor choices in the transfer market that have not come off and due to the money spent he's had to pay the price. But he bleeds liverpool football club and he deserves to be revered by the fans until the day he dies. He should be made an honorary chairman for life and become the club's greatest ambassador.
You look at Beckenbauer at Bayern and Charlton at Utd; these people draw players to clubs, they network round the world and are respected by the football world. That's what Dalglish should be to Liverpool.
I thought it right he should move aside, as sad as it is, but he should be able to do with his head held high and without toxic fans slagging him off as he goes.

Thanks to the KING and all that followed him through the darkest times

    ReplyDelete
  44. This is it in a nutshell. Tom Werner said in a statement earlier this year that FSG can compete with anybody in world football on a financial level. To me, this means that they can spend big, if they want to but this is their first venture into football and they might baulk at the money needed to be spent to achieve success. It has cost Sheik Mansour over £900,000,000 to get City to the level they are at just now and they have only 2 trophies to show for it. Yes, one of them is the League title and, who knows, they might have a good run at the Holy Grail next season, but it's still almost a billion pounds.
FSG's total outlay to date is less than half of that and, with another sporting interest in their home country, will the Red Sox fans be happy at another LFC spending spree if they are doing poorly in the MLB?
As much as I am thankful to them for saving the club in it's darkest hour, I'd be happier with a resurgence of DIC, a company who's sole sporting 'franchise' interest is Liverpool.

At the of the day KK spent poorly if it was your money would you give Kenny it, spend nearly 100 million with a goal and assist return of less then twenty between, Henderson, Adam, Carroll and Downing put together this for the best, if the season gone was what hodgson achieved he would have been gone. David Moyes would be great appointment great judge of a player not afraid to give youth a chance and would have a bigger budget to the boot! Go get him Henry

  50. I think Martinez is a decent option but it's a big step up from Wigan to LFC. Plus, if he gets the job ahead of Benitez - a club legend to many - then fans will resent Martinez for the perceived slight, and will hound him out of Anfield just like they did with Hodgson.

The same applies to any 'low profile' manager - fans will resent them for blocking Benitez's return, and they'll will him to fail so that Benitez can return. The only way that won't happen is if the club get an established, high profile, world renowned manager; someone who commands instant respect; someone on who the fans can't diss because his reputation/achievements are so impressive.

For example, Frank Rijkaard - he's high profile, and he's done the business at Barcelona. I wouldn't be averse to him taking over, and I think he could withstand the 'bring back Benitez' furore.

Van Gaal and Heynckes would also fit the 'high profile' bill, but they're too old.

Of all the options, I would probably go for Rijkaard - shouldn't be too hard to get considering Saudi Arabia failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup. Does he still have the appetite and desire for the game though?

Failing that, I personally wouldn't mind seeing Martinez or Brendan Rodgers given a chance as I feel that despite the fan opposition, they could change minds very quickly.

What about you? What's your view?

  56. Nick, I've been saying for months that all we have been missing is a ruthless striker. I'd bet my house on Torres hitting top form this season if he hadn't left and us being contenders.

    ReplyDelete
  57. PS. I didn't mention Jurgen Klopp - who would be my top choice - because I don't think there's any possibility he would leave Dortmund.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Just trying to gauge public opinion. Especially from those that sound like they know what they're talking about :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. That would be one of the games I was referring to, even though we dominated for the last half hour.
We need a solid system to play to and get the players in to play it. Rafa's best formation was 4-2-3-1, playing Gerrard behind Torres as the strike pairing. Even with their injuries, they still proved to be the most successful strike pairing in the history of the club.
Kenny's gone now, I'll get over it, I want a return to what we were in 08/09, regardless of who's in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I've always rated Lucas, and many had faith too. Likewise I think Carroll and Henderson will come good. It's the Downing signing I just can not fathom. Charlie Adam could be a handy squad player but I don't think he should be a first XI player for us with his form last year.
I think it's more the outlay for these players (Henderson and Carroll), and the pressure as a result on these two youngsters has been immense. I think at £35m you expect a finished product not potential. That's my view on it anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I dared to mention that perhaps sentiment is holding us back and has been for the last 20 years - received the same kind of response as you seem to have received too.

  63. I think many did in the Kenny article before this one, as well as Twitter. Without doubt I'm sure most still consider the man as a Legend and I would love him back at the club in a similar role to Bobby Charlton at Man U. Some reports said he was offered that but refused - but with there being so many stories and exclusives right now it's hard to know the actual truth.

Kenny and Steve came at a difficult time and I, along with most others thank them for that.

  77. We are trying to PROGRESS.. Talk of Rafa is a regressive step. We need someone new who can get the best from the players & is tactically astute. Finding that manager ( & coaching staff ) will be a difficult process. I do hope it is not AVB as latest rumours would have it.

    ReplyDelete
  78.  You seem so sure. Let's wait & see. I hope not!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yes WHF, I totally agree with you. Too bad after 100 mil pounds spent plus most of the original squad, we only managed to score 47 times in the entire EPL season of 38 games. We can't even get a 25 goal striker and a set of midfielders that can create chances for the strikers despite spending more than 100 mil pounds. Based on this simple fact, the manager has to take full responsibility and has to go.

By saying we always threw many shots at all opponents but missed them due to down of luck etc is as good as saying we studied very hard for our school exams but we missed out on all the questions in the papers. Will any teacher let you passed the exams based on the fact that you are a hardworking student? Cruel reality of school examination and it is even more cruel in the business world. It is more than 100 mil pounds spent and I wonder if anyone that talks about luck, hitting post and 'will come good' etc knows how much money is 100 plus mil pounds? We only need 400 mil pounds to build a new stadium, mind you guys.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I have a problem with the goings on at Anfield recently. Comoli fired, Bruckner fired, Cotton fired, Kenny fired, Ian Ayre???? Some obviously have just happened but if you're going to fire someone make sure you know who their replacement is. If the owners are committed to a director of football then where is he? Who'll be the new manager? Well media sources think it's more likely to be a Martinez, Lambert or Rodgers which is shocking they have no CV just the current flavour of the month. Sure it's great playing attractive football but not if you're in a relegation battle because of it and why not link Paul Jewell he finished much higher up than Martinez, sure Steve Bruce is available. We have to make a statement with this mangerial appointment so Klopp, Hiddink, Benitez (like him or loathe him he looks a genius know considering the mess going on with h&g), Capello and why not talk to Guardiola, he won't come he's genuine when he said he's taking a break but he could suggest someone. The names I'd rule out are Mourinho (won't come) Van Gaal (so arrogant he falls out with everyone) O'Neill (please Hodgson mark 2)and AVB (who like the Martinez's is just to inexpierenced). This is a huge summer at Anfield and I'm extremely concernced who is advising our owners who let's be honest have little footall expertise.

  81. It is no paper money that FSG has spent during the past 18 months. They
are cold hard cash, pal. 100 plus mil pounds new players plus most of the original
squad equals to where we are in the league table at the end of the season. No disrespect pal, I bet you are clueless about how much money is 100 plus mil pounds.

I thought FSG showed a lot of respect for KD. Despite the woeful season, FSG waited until the end of the season before they arranged for a face-to-face meeting with KD. They can't reach a consensus so KD has to go. That's all, nothing disrespectful and after all, it is their investment so they have all the rights to make such decision. No man is greater than the club.

    ReplyDelete
  86. No disrespect, pal. I seriously don't think you have any idea how much money is 100 mil plus pounds. KD was not being treated shabbily. FSG willing to arrange for a face-to-face talk despite what happened to the their investment. What is wrong with that???

  87. This is the happiest day of my life as a liverpool supporter. The worst manager of the last decade getting sacked from our club. Thank u FSG. Now I hope the british shits dalglish bought follow suit and leave too. As for the next manager I hope FSG do a bit more of research and appoint a high profile manager with a CV worthy of being our manager. No more hodgson type manager who did a decent job at a mediocre premier league team before. So i would say no to rodgers and martinez, let them manage their midtable team. They are not good enough for us. We are LFC for god sake! Why settle for mediocrity? Only the best has to get anywhere near our club and this applies to players, managers and all the other backroom staffs. Rafa is not the solution. Thanks for the memories but stay wherever you are or go manage aston villa. We need to stop living in the past. We need to look forward now. We need a manager a la allan pardrew from newcastle who has a real eye for talented players at bargain prices...

  91. Has Clarke been sacked? I can't find any other confirmed reports, why is it taking so long to confirm this? However, your source was wrong about Ayre, he was on Sky saying he's staying. Whatever has happened on the field, he has done a good job off it, so can't see why they would get rid of him tbh.

  96. I'm worried about the current situation, it's almost G+H all over again, US owners with little prior knowledge of the game, biting off more than they could chew.
FSG have bought LFC and it's in their interest for the Club to succeed. They have now shown that nothing will be taboo or stand in their way in their aim to succeed. Even the sacking of our Kenny.
Now that they've stripped the club bare of management, how much are they going to invest in the rebuilding?
What funds would be made available to the new manager?
Where are the new stadium plans?
FSG did indeed save the club from administration. But even as Kenny brought back some pride to the LFC family with a small piece of silverware yet seemingly can no longer take us to the next level, can FSG take us to the next level?

  98. After the storm of T&H, then came the calm with Dalgish's appointment. And now a storm comes again....WTF!!! The club needs stability, Dalgish brought that. Stupid fecking Americans who think they know best how to run this club...hire and fire...2 managers in the space of 18mths...we're like Chelski in changing managers all the time. Only difference is Chelski is backed by a rich Russian owner, while the Americans spent little on the club (FACT: most of Kenny's signings are through wheeling and dealing the previous signings of the Rafa and Hodgson regime - Torres, Merieles, JC/Aquliani's wages, etc instead of significant cash investment into the club). Man City would not have got the title without the owners putting real cash to back the manager. If FSG thinks they can invest little and expect manager to do miracles to win the title, dream on! Look, we've not won the title for the longest time since King Kenny last brought it to us, & he's sacked only after 1 full year into his job. Patience is needed to rebuild...I'm outraged!

  99. I definitely preferred the football that Rafa played. At least when we weren't winning games, we were difficult to beat. KD seemed to believe that the midfield was irrelevant and all that was needed was Jamie Carragher to thoughtfully thread a 60 yard pass over everyone towards big Andy. Also, these crosses from deep are a complete waste of time. When was the last time any of our players got to the byline? It was probably Suarez. So under KD we couldn't play it through the midfield because lets face it our midfield is fairly useless, and we couldn't penetrate out wide because our wide players don't know how to beat a defender, so simply send endless amounts of hopeful crosses into the box. And people wonder why we had so many unfinished 'chances'.

This talk about Rafa is irrelevent though. There is simply no way that the owners are going to sign a manager that has managed the club previously at this point. We saw how that has worked out! They will be looking to head in a new direction. Wouldn't be surprised to see AVB at anfield next season.

    Personally i'd like Van Gaal.

  103. Another deluded and blinded fan.. wake up to the real world mate- DALGLISH FAILED in his JOB as Manager of LFC !! Simple as that .. could have been anyone else, it dont matter.. he was given a very large amount of $$$ to spend and HE DID.. and the results were?? OUr worst ever finish for 50yrs!! Now if some so called Fans are "outraged" at the owners decision to sack the manager after failing in his job, then they clearly have no idea!!
LFC IS A HUGE GLOBAL BUSINESS - UNDERSTAND THAT!
Its NOT about 1 player,, 1 manager,,, 1 legend.,,,,
You are seriously missing the point if you living on the notion that just because KD was a true legend of the club then that gives him the right to FAIL in his JOB as manager..
He is a legend,, no doubt about that.. he loves the club like no one else .. no doubt about that.. just like we all do ..
    BUT ...
He was appointed in an official capacity to do A JOB .. to manage the players - who he brought in and selected, and chose to play every week in his style and with the team that he chose to get into the top 4 .. and he was given over 100m to do so.....
He finished 8th .. below Everton . .who spent how much ???
    HE FAILED DISMALLY ...
WHY THE SURPRISE HE WAS SACKED??
Any other manager would have been sacked....

  114. SIncerely, 100 ml pounds is a figure costanly exposed by Tabloids, but in facts, with huge cut wages & players' sell, I seriously doubt that Liverpool's net spend was near to that figure. Any way, I just can't share the positivism of those Who are so pleased jump from the sinking ship. For Now We're only firing anyone connected with the Club. Who's the next?? The Employers of the Anfield's shop??? Apart from things written in the tabloids, echoed by some fans, I do not see a great budget, not a budget which can attract the interestes of TOP MANAGERS like Capello or Mourinho, I don't see huge commercial revenues or match day revenues, I don't see a new stadium, I don't see a direction, a vision, I don't see stability under a managerial point of view, really, I clearly don't see a future just now apart fro the special talent of waving the axe, a special talent that some young managers with talent don't see in a positive way. Maybe things will change in the future but for now there are not reason to be delighted only because a manager was sacked and there are not a valid reason out there to be so pleased & optimistic. King Kenny not good enough? After £40ml of net spend (NET SPEND) with a team in decline that He's trying to reserve? Not good enough after only one season in charge in a three yrs contract (a deal which doesn't show a huge faith)? Seriously, You're reallt blind if You don't see the truth: FSG never really wanted King Kenny adn it's a shame that He flown to Bosto n to know that true. The future is nobright as any of so called fans think only because Kenny was dethroned, NO cl football, no great revenues, no great budget and investments from an ownership who really is not the Man City's ownership, no stability for managers, a portion of fans  base (especially from abroad) Who doesn't know the mean of the word patience,  no great match day revenues, and a special love for yielding the axe: today If I was a top manager never mind I would think to Liverpool and I would be really right to do that. In this condition, Benitez would be a dream. I've never been a huge fan of Rafa, but just now as I called an SOS for Kenny, now I called an sos for Rafa, but You deluded fans can only dream a recall to the arms for Rafa, because your americans really showed They won't let the sentimens prevail. Rafa is not an option. Martinez or AVB: what a laughing stock. The first has Wigan out of relegation zone as the maximum achievement in his curricula, in the only stadium persistently empty of EPL, in an environment Who doesn't know expectations, and the second waws fired in England in Januray. Yep, yep, tow great managers Who really deserve more than Kennt this chance for some so called fans... more than a manager Who has a sum of achievements in his bag that Martinez & Andre can only dream. Seriously? Roberto di Matteo could be the only viable option for us, but unfortunately, If They win the CL, We can dream DI Matteo. Good Job from the ownership, good jobfrom the usual knee jerks fans, for me, this is the ultimate "ice on the cake" to set up a relegation battle for our beloved CLub. Thanks a lot.

Smurfy and Nick, You guys must be new so called LFC fan right? Oh, you must be that so called fans who wanted instant success, Yeah FACT, we did not finished above 8th, We had bad luck in scoring, and hit the woodwork 30+ times, one of our players was banned for 8 games, what do you think? oh yeah thanks for your comments and time in insulting KK and LFC. BTW, how many seasons have you been playing Championship manager?

    ReplyDelete
  116. You think I don't know what 100 million pounds is? Maybe I should the same question. Do you know what 100 million pounds is in modern football? You're talking about 100 million pounds as if FSG bought a pub, or convenience store. Some of you just make me sick. I'm sick and tired of all this talk about 100 million pounds. What happened to the money from Torres' sale? How about Meireles' sale? How about the other cheap sales we made when we cleared some deadwood last season? So how much is the net spending of FSG that is making axes grind at such an unprecedented rate? 50 million? How much did it cost Man City to buy Sergio Aguero? Is that the same amount that Kenny has been sacked for? And who says these players won't get better after 1year? Would you have predicted that Carroll's form would ever improve the way it did few weeks ago? By ruining the team spirit of the club now with these foolish decisions, have they taken the club forward now or backward? How many years, and how much money did it cost Abramovich to make Chelsea a title winning team? How about Man City, or Real Madrid? Were the owners (FSG)thinking that spending 50 million will guarantee Champions League football? You guys should stop talking about this 110 million, because that's the same amount Real Madrid spent on just Cristiano Ronaldo and Fábio Coentrão. How long did it take Real Madrid to win the La Liga title again with a strike-force that boasts of Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuian, an excess of what FSG are moaning about, without taking corresponding sales into consideration? This is so ridiculous!!!

  117. Love KD to bits, our greatest ever player...but alas, everyone today in employment has their performances at work assessed...and frankly, if you don`t perform, then in time, you can expect to come under scrutiny. No different here, fans have to realise that todays football world is totally different to when Kenny last won us the title of English League Championship,it`s all about the money now. The club was sold to Fenway Sports, they as owners are `looking out for their investment`....they gave Kenny big money last year, and frankly, the players recruited, left a lot to be desired (as well as our overall EPL finish,no excuses there either!!)...we finished 37 pts from top spot, miles away from John W Henry`s target of top 4...and we can`t score goals for shite(when in Jan summer transfer window,Kenny could have and SHOULD have addressed that huge issue)....LFC is a global money making business for Fenway...results win matches, lots of EPL wins give LFC a to finish in the desired top 4,with the lucrative Champions League awaiting.Put all sentiment aside,(yes, sad for Kenny, will always be a legend)....but legends DON`T win EPL titles and European Championships .....and I know, that after 20 odd years without being champions of England,as a LFC supporter of 40 years, what I want for my beloved LIVERPOOL FC...EPL SUCCESS,AND SOONER RATHER THAN IN 10 YEARS TIME!!!!

  120. Thanks god he is gone!! else we wud had finished 18th insted of 8th next season!! He did not show any glimpse of tactics, he did not show he had the courage to make the right subs at the right time, he did not show he had the courage to say that he made mistakes buy buying scrap players for enormous sum of money, he did not show that he can keep our best players by letting meireles, aquilani and torres go, he did not show he still has the same passion for the club by letting everton finish above us, he did not show that he will be able to attract best foreign players by insisting his british buy policy is best for the club and that they should play each and every match even if the team is losing, he cud not admit that he did not win us carling cup, BUT it was cardiff who lost it by losing at penalty shootout, he had the gut to say that its the carling cup that fans wanted above a good premiership finish!! Common Dalgish is the past, he is outdated, he was fingers away of letting ManUre had their 20th title!!

    ReplyDelete
  121. I agree with your appraisal really. Personally, I'm a Benitez fan but I wouldn't have him back in charge. A decision needs to be made that isn't based partly on sentiment. And even looking at it pragmatically, Rafa's 18 month exile from competitive management doesn't help him. Also, players have a lot of power these days and many of the louder voices in the Liverpool dressing-room just sadly wouldn't play for Rafa Benitez if he were to return. So I'd wipe his name off the list immediately.

I'd similarly have to dismiss Martinez for the latter reason too - there's arguably too much ego in the LFC team to accept a manager who hasn't won anything. It's a shame, but it would appear to be a fact.

In January 2010, I wrote an article for my blog about 'The Next Manager of LFC' and I said that it would be Frank Rijkaard. Literally the next day, Liverpool appointed Kenny Dalglish so that shows you how much I know!

At the time, I would have been 100% behind Frank taking charge but now I'm not so sure. For me, the appointment is more than just 'The Man' in the hotseat - it's about his coaching staff too and how that staff set about their job: from researching games; to tactical set-up; to the medical side of things; and then on to handling the press.

Frank Rijkaard obviously has the internationally-renowned reputation and would be a great lure for bigger names (a commodity we currently seriously lack). But football is such a fast-paced and changing industry now.

I think it's vital that the next appointment is somebody who has managed a team in this season's Champions League, and who has experience of winning trophies in a European league.

In August, I drunkenly blurted out on camera that Liverpool would appoint Andre Villas-Boas as manager in the summer of 2012. Granted, I was seriously hammered at the time, and his subsequent failure at Chelsea would probably be a stumbling point.

I'm not saying I'm correct to suggest AVB. But what would your thoughts be on him, Jaimie? He does tick the boxes I've suggested above, but perhaps you have a few extra boxes of your own to add?

  134. Typical blind fan blaming the owners. BTW, who is T&H? Dalglish was given 18 months to prove his worth, considering he was never the first choice of Henry and Werner, he was given a chance, which he failed significantly at, our lowest points haul in 60 years, our worst league position in 40 something years, yes, Liverpool were playing more attractive football than under the Hodgson regime, but the fact of the matter is, Liverpool finished 8th. Simply not good enough. Henry and Werner are winners, they have proved that with Boston Red Sox and they also don't suffer fools lightly, as with the sacking of the Red Sox head coach, the same one who won them the World Series for the first time in 80 something years, but after a poor run of form, he was shown the door. Yes Dalglish is a legend at Liverpool, but we couldn't keep him on for the sake of nostalgia. He had to go, and so he did go. What the club needs more than stability is a winning mentality instilled back into the club, something that has been lost since Rafa was sacked. I agree, patience is needed to rebuild, but we need patience with a winning mentality. And Henry and Werner have gotten rid of the slack, simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Let's be honest, of all the people that have gone, only Comolli, Dalglish and Clarke were acquisitions of FSG, so they were always going to be replaced, no surprise there. There is going to be no shortage of suitors for the jobs at a club like Liverpool. Yes this is a very important summer for the club, but we are far from being in crisis. This shows that the owners don't tolerate anything but success and a winning culture in the club, that is a GOOD thing.

  137. ManU is a business but a business that is run correctly from the top down and it is shown on the pitch. They did not play to there usual standard by their own omittion last season and still managed to fight until the last day. FSG need to act and act fast and install a manager. Then concentrate on the business side of LFC and feel capable of leaving the footballing side to the Director of football downwards. This is proven at Manu and Arsenal and works they should not need to be bothered by any footballing decisions just concentrate on things like Stadiums adn the Global positioning of Liverpool. Footabll in the past few years has become a business and if they want to make money they have to play at the top table which means they have to invest they have started to do this adn they have removed most of the old guard at anfield to install new younger fresher thinking people with new directions for liverpool in my opinion this is long overdue we now have a chance at not being left behind the pack. But this alll depends on FSG appointing a director of football/communications adn a manager fast.

  147. Surprised Clarke has done this and i think that he should have stayed. Kenny is not going to go into another management job, which says it all, really, and so it is not as if Kenny is going to offer him a job elsewhere. Besides, no man is bigger than the club so, as long as Clarke did not stab him in the back, then him continuing to help the team should not have been a problem.

And, who knows, maybe he could have been a decent manager?

It's very unofficial at the moment as we don't know who's taking over. Also for you to say the official website is disrespectful when you've been putting graphics in your own articles slating Kenny is extremely hypocritical!

  162. It is official; my source is 100% correct; the BBC, Guardian and Independent have confirmed the story (see links in the article) - Clarke is not on holiday; the club is just 'managing' his departure.

Think about it: every new manager brings their own assistant; why would Clarke stay, only to be inevitably fired and/or moved sideways? Wait a few days, and the club will confirm Clarke's departure.

  163. Okay okay . . . so KK has been dethroned. Breaks my heart. Seen him play, met him in 1984 after an exhibition match against Spurs in Swaziland, of all places. Will always be Mr. Liverpool for me.

Serious questions need to be asked of Henry. When they appointed KK, they knew they were installing a legend, yet someone who had been out of football management for years. KK deserved at least one more year.

Are cracks beginning to appear in Henry's management style ? The Red Sox are in a very bad shape too. What's FSGs financial health ? Anyone ?

  164. When KK took the reigns, he was told 4th is the minimum requirement for this season, Fact. He got no where near his minimum requirement, Fact. In any job, if your given a goal to reach, and you fall just short, you may get another chance, but if you are way off that goal your out, its not rocket science. When KK took over as caretaker manager, the likes of Maxi, Kuyte, Suarez and carroll looked decent, had a understanding, and we scored a lot of goals, especially maxi. He gets the job, brings in his own players, and we stop scoring any one want to explain why...............

  165. BBC report says Clarkes resignation has been rejected.

  166. the day David Moores sold Liverpool it became a business Tom and George and Henry and Werner are businessmen though for the former that is an insult to businessmen

  169. The BBC, Guardian and Independent are not LFC Jaimie. As it stands the club have not announced that he has left so no it's not OFFICIAL. When the club confirms Clarke's departure then it is OFFICIAL. You're source may be proven to be correct but it is not OFFICIAL yet. There is a difference. But then I guess you're just after hits.

  170. Firstly been watchin Liverpool since 80s and Kenny albeit legend on the pitch is only human and to me has been let down by FSG over being held responsible over Suarez affair where in any other multi million pound business anything so controversial would of been handled by a complete legal team or at least briefed in what comments and actions would be deemed fit, sort of tells me give a guy enough rope,

The bottom line is Dalglish was really not the option Henry and Co wanted and felt the ground swell for Kenny from the fans and so this is a clever business move which was most likely discussed on the other side of the pond from the outset, hence they didnt offer a contract for 3 or 4 months and in all seriousness the players brought in where apparently not targeted by Dalglish but by the sacked Damien Comolli, who was to bring players to the club that was his remit, hence he went before Kenny this to me has been lined up for a while and  with the inevitable not qualifying for Champions League opened the door for their original restructuring.

All you Everton fans take head what this game is about, you dont realise  what an enviable position you are inevitably we are going to lose the Liverpool we once knew and loved and its going to be a money circus run by guys in suits that dont even understand what offside means,
Feel its the end of an era at Anfield which in its present form wont come back. Thanks for bringing the smiles back Kenny and lets remember its the players that performed poorly not the manager.

  171. I was a Liverpool supporter for 36 years.
I've been to 3 European finals, was a season ticket holder,
loads of European travel to watch the super men in red, even used to go  to watch the pre season games, cost ££££££££££

    NO MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know we had a bad season in the league, but the Capitalists that are running the club just want PROFIT.
This used to be a family, the heart has definitely been ripped out of Liverpool Football Club and with SACKING KD that is the final straw for me.
I know no one's bigger than the club, but i bet you Shanks is turning in his grave right now.

They the masters upstairs should have given KD another year or 2 to bed the team in, then decide.

Ian ayre "we are not going to rush into the next appointment."
Bo$%ocks, Martinez was 1st choice if we lost the FA Cup.

If them idiots upstairs employ Martinez, my hard earned money is staying in the bank, and i'll go and watch Crewe instead.

Ian Eyre (Bluenose) needs to go next, he masterminded the transfers.

KING KENNY, YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE J496

  172. wow, i must be blind as i still cant find the "Official Resignation" of Steve Clarke on the Official Liverpool website... if you have a link to it can you post it... otherwise your heading bogus, again...

    ReplyDelete
  173. i agree with you all they want is profit, its a business to them, you dont have chairmen who love the club and grew up supporting them, think Kenwright is the only one left now.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I agree Henderson is more than likely to prove to be a much better player than he has shown himself to be this season. But it still doesn't change the fact that Liverpool overpaid for him. You can't compare him to Lucas because we only paid a quarter of the price for Lucas.

As for Henderson making the reserve list for England, well that says more about Hodgson's lack of judgement than his quality as a player - which he is yet prove on a consistent.

  175. The reality is although Liverpool have a history equal to Real's we are not in the same league as them today financially. It's unrealistic to expect us to be able to spend the same kind of money Real can on a player without selling first.

As for expecting FSG to match Chelsea and City in expenditure, again you're not being realistic. Their owners bought those club's to act as a rich man's hobby, and they will never see a return on their investment. FSG bought Liverpool as an investment and will never even try to compete with City and Chelsea's expenditure. Any reasonable fan would see the reality of this situation. Investing a net spend of £50m last summer is the best we could have hoped for, and to be frank KK and Comolli overspent on every player they brought in except Bellamy and Coates. If I was FSG I wouldn't trust them to make wise investments this summer, hence they exited the club.

It was sad to KK management finish the way it did, but it was not unexpected.

  177. And we might come 7th next season!

    ReplyDelete
  178. Or which players were suited to playing each other. But, never mind, apparently we outplayed nearly everyone all the time. But still came 8th. There's never been a team as unlucky in the history of the EPL.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Yes, real shame wanting the club to progress and not turn into one person's plaything when the team is toiling.

There's things to be ashamed about, but some of you are so into celebrity culture and worshipping them, it is mental. Ashamed to want a 60 year old guy who is not doing the best job to get a good pay off so our team can progress? Meanwhile, most of you think that handballing it on the line is something to be proud of. Mad World!

    ReplyDelete
  180. We were showing relegation form for 5 months and people say that he needed more time. It would have been relegation at that rate. Notice i don't hear much from any of the players today. Apart from Suarez's love of La Liga, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Really? Did you see where Sunderland were when he started? Down with Blackburn and Wigan? did the adrenaline wear off at Leicester? Don't remember that, they got to two Carling Cup finals, our ex manager seems to think that is a real achievement. How about Villa? He had them above us in league and in the top 6 for three years on the trot. When did the adrenaline wear off at Celtic? Are we talking about the same person?

He also even has previous of cleaning up the mess Dalglish left from when he succeeded him and Barnes at Celtic after they both brought the club almost to its knees.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Wow, football owners want to make a profit and not run a free disneyland for the mob. That's a real shocker.

    ReplyDelete
  183. clark is still here so you are first to get it wrong

    ReplyDelete
  184. Its you who needs to dream on Sugarray and stick to the boxing.

Just explain to me how it is a FACT the owners have spent little money 35Mill  Carroll  24Mill Suarez  20Mill Downing 17Mill Henderson 16Mill Adam/Enrique 8Mill Coate.

I get that to 120 Million, So your ridiculous statement that Kenny's signings are through wheeling and dealings is a joke, and if you are going to use the word FACT in future make sure you get yours right

How does two managers in 18 months make us look like Chelsea, changing manager all the time, stop exaggerating and calm down.

We are not Man City so don't even bring that up.

  193. Tactically outdated is correct and I have to question   your knowledge of football here.

Firstly KD was sacked because he got his tactics wrong throughout the season hence the 8th position under Everton and the worst home record in 50 years. (yea kenny is boss at tactics Billy)

You state we've outplayed every team in every game with the exception of a handful of games, firstly, who cares as we either drew or lost most of the time especially against the lower half teams ( Kenny's tactics with Carroll 2 months ago where to bring him on at 85 mins in one game, play him the next week, then drop him the following week then the next week bring him on at 87 mins, Seriously 87 mins ( and that is just a snippet of Kenny's confidence winning tactics not withstanding his total lack of tactics to change the game in the FA Cup ).

QUOTE from Tommy Smith in the Echo.....Kenny will Know the reason why we lost to Chelsea was not starting Andy Carroll.

John Aldridge said as much the same

You state we hit the post and bar almost 40 times and missed 6 pens, so what, it wouldn't matter if it was 100 times as they don't count do they as we again drew or lost

You ridiculously ask the question are Man U's tactics much better than Kenny's given they have had 47 less chances, THAT stupid statement answers itself plain and simple, also there is the small matter of the points difference which was a Staggering 37 points away from them and 17 points away from 4th position and 13 points away from Newcastle.

Further to which KD spent 120 Million pound so yes overall I'd say his tactics where pretty crap and of course more importantly the owners thankfully thought the same.

See ya on the Jeremy Kyle show
