Official: Liverpool offer Roberto Martinez the manager's job

FSG has offered Roberto Martinez the Liverpool job, according to Latics Chairman Dave Whelan.

Martinez met with FSG yesterday in Miami for talks about the possibility of replacing Kenny Dalglish, and according to Whelan, Martinez has been offered the job.

He told Sky Sports:

"Roberto had a very constructive meeting. They made an offer and he has agreed to consider it"

Martinez remains the odds-on favourite for the job, and unless the Spaniard turns it down - which seems unlikely - he will be Liverpool's next manager.

Having said that, Martinez turned down the Aston Villa job last season, so anything is possible.

Whelan also confirmed that further talks between Martinez and FSG will take place over the next week.

  1. if true what a surprise !, they interviewed so many candidates - as  I've said dont trust these people. they picked Him before they sacked Daglish, I really hope Roberto succeeds but if He dosnt, they better watch out.

  6. 7 years ago today we won the European cup in the most dramatic European cup final ever. Today a guy that has done nothing but keep a team from getting relegated is going to be our manager. This is the end. Mid table mediocrity for years to come. The club is clearly run by people who do have a clue what they are doing.

    ReplyDelete
  7. If this is true then I wish Martinez the best of luck and I hope he can turn things around for our beloved club (in terms of league results that is), although I would have preferred to have seen a more seasoned/experienced manager at the helm!

  8. We have to be careful here.

If he does ultimately take the job then we have to support him to give him any chance whatsoever of succeeding.

We can't have another situation like we had with Hodgson where everybody was on his back from day one. We'll never get anywhere like that.

  9. Liverpool is Finished Martinez manger biggest mistake liverpool made next to Hodgson

  10.  Liverpool towards ruin, we were already frustrated and disappointed by Dalglish and now another setback. Surely we are off to relegation zone.
These yankies should learn something about football.

  11. Totally agree. I have no problem with Martinez getting the job. In fact, I think it's quite exciting. I would personally prefer Van Gaal, but RM is a great candidate too.

It's not just his management potential; his personality fits LFC like a glove; he's a top man; a genuinely nice guy, and after the miserable paranoia and victim complex instilled by Dalglish, that will be extremely refreshing.

Not too keen on this news. Doesn´t seem a very ambitious manager choice. Although Whelan seems to be shouting his mouth off about everything so you never know...

Absolutely right. Lets stop with all the "mediocrity" and "relegation zone" negative comments and give him the same support most gave Kenny when he first came in. IMO it wasn't just Kenny's appointment as caretaker that helped us have a great finish to the 2010-11 season, it was fan confidence coupled with that.

  14. I honestly cannot believe it has come to this. I am not saying its the end of the world or anything.....I am just actually surprised. I always thought that the least experienced choice they would have risked would have been AVB. Martinez better pray Rafa gets a job fast....unfortunately, it may be a tough road otherwise.

  15. Pep was green as a coach but excelled once in the position. Martinez teams Swansea and Wigan played exciting football like the Liverpool of old. I just have the gut feeling that he will take us to great heights. Shaun Gopal Durban SA

  16. I hope you are right, I really do but I can't say I am excited with this at all and I really don't look forward to this season. I hope players we are trying to get and existing players don't feel they way I do and they will give the best the new manager.

I just feel sad that we didn't get the best out there. Maybe he is the only one out there who is interested with us.

  18. All you doubters better get a grip he's got premiership eXperience in a bundance! He got Wigan playing the likes of man u arsenal Chelsea and obviously Liverpool off the park, I know we had more than enough chances to kill them off but its time for somebody fresh to take the reigns and if any body on here had a clue about football they'd get on board!! Roberts Roberto Robert!!!

  19. People haven't even seen Roberto manage Liverpool for the first ten games yet but are happy to judge him. I hope he makes you all eat your words. Not matter what if this is true and he accepts then we get behind him as much as we can. No more of the negativity. We need to bring as much positivity to the club as possible.

  20. Hmmmm, Roy Hodgson's nice guy persona cracked at Liverpool didn't it? I expect Martinez's to do the same under the pressure, if he takes the job.. Btw what has Martinez won again?

I don't think that Liverpool needs an average coach like Martinez but if the management insist, fine! I wished that Martinez will work closely with Van Gal.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Whay is it 'well said' - does he not have the right to an opinion?

    ReplyDelete
  23.  Pep took over one of the best teams in the world. I don't know we can say that with Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  24. One thing that the FSG have proven to us fans is their stone-cold approach to running the club. With Martinez being a top candidate and quite possibly our new coach, then it just goes to show that the owners are truly trying to "rebuild". I do admit I am curious as to how Martinez will approach the new role; one thing for certain is he will have more a better squad to work with, not to mention new additions the squad (G. Ramirez,...). As fans we can only sit back and see what unfolds for the club, and hope that the reports of Guus Hidink being linked with the club are true. YNWA!!!!!

  25. I trust Martinez. if not, who else do you guy want?? And is that your name is possible? Pep? AVB? Pep - not chance AVB - I dont think he is suitable for this job

  27. Our main emphasis must be winning the league not just qualifying for Champions league. Think that is the minimum requirement for the next manager. No matter how much money the other clubs have, its eleven players each on the field. We are tired of being also rans.........or just a cup team. LFC for life. Shaun Gopal Durban South Africa

  28. Liverpool are as expected now shopping in the bargan basement.liverpool supporters are partly to blame for this situation. They got the hopeless Dalglish the job after he was sacked in his two previous jobs. The gap between the top four will widen more over the next number of years and Liverpool will remain in the second tier of the Premiership. He will be given the money from the Suarez sale to spend but will not be able to attract any worthwhile players.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I guess I just hope Spurs don't beat us 9-1. Or we lose to united by 5-0 in three out of five games.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's this kind of needless prejudice against other teams/managers that gives football fans a bad name. Why would Whelan lie? What does he have to gain? Martinez obviously told him that FSG had offered him the job, which is exactly what any manager would tell their existing Chairman if it happened. Just because you don't like the news doesn't mean the person who passed it on - i.e. Whelan - is somehow untrustworthy.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Shame, poor old Dave Whelan - he's just using this as an opportunity to get some PR for himself and that little pisswilly club of his -:)

    ReplyDelete
  32. The only game wigan "played anyone of the park" was when they beat Newcastle 4-0 the other games i think you were watching something we wern't, there are clearly better managers out there than Martinez but i will support him if he gets the job just think if he has a poor 1st half dozen games it will be like Hodgson all over again and we don't want that the team and fans and manager have to be as one

    ReplyDelete
  33. In all honesty, I wanted Rodgers (if I had to pick someone young). Even though he is also somewhat unproven. He is more pragmatic, and is heavily influenced by Barca's philosophies. Also he was an understudy to Mourinho, and has fantastic man management skills, and his side conceded far less goals.

Well it looks like it is over now. Interesting days ahead, will support him regardless. At least he seems good with the media.....nice change.

    ReplyDelete
  34.  You could do with using your own advice, that's my "opinion"

    ReplyDelete
  35. It is a risk, no question, but I think we need to give him the chance to succeed. Not all of us were over the moon with Dalglish's appointment but got behind him nonetheless.

If he does crack, then let it be because he couldn't get the team to work, not because the fans made his life hell

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's going to be Hodgson all over again. The Pro-Benitez Cult are going to be on Martinez's back from day one; as you can see from the comments, they already are.

I think it will be different this time though: Hodgson had no support from the Owners, and they clearly didn't see him as a long term solution.  Martinez will have the full support of FSG, which will strengthen his position immeasurably.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Either our owners are uncertified geniuses and are being advised cleverly. Or, the rumours about them wanting the club to be self sustaining are true. I believe the latter after having a real think about this. I wish the new manager luck. I would hope his stipulations include having a reasonable transfer pot each season. They say Martinez is responsible for the passing philosophy instilled at Swansea after his stint there. Whatever happens, his work won't happen overnight. So, i hope everyone would give him full support. Even though like most of us. I am literally scratching my head over what's happened since Rafa went.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The end started when Rafa went. Most people couldn't see it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. If he has got the job we MUST get behind him. I agree it's quite an exciting appointment. BUT still no official word from the club and Whelan is a shrewd business man so I still won't believe anything until I hear it from our club. If you don't like the appointment and are not going to back him and our team then go and support someone else. YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  40. This is not Whelan's place to talk to Skysports, it's ridiculous - Neither FSG, LFC or Martinez have issued a statement about this so why does Whelan feel he should publicly speak to the press about it? It is not his place and is a terrible way to work, he should take a few lessons from LFC on private dealings. HE IS A JOKE!

    ReplyDelete
  41. What like listening to the fans and appointing a club legend? Only for him to limp to a CCup final victory. Show piss poor tactics in the FA cup final and finish 8th having spent 110million on incoming players. Dalglish always was an accident waiting to happen. Its a shame it did. But, the reality is the above. No owner in their right mind would make the same mistakes twice.

    ReplyDelete
  42.  When did Liverpool fans turn into such whiny bitches? Liverpool are famous for their support and Martinez is a fine manager so get behind him or you lot will be destroying Liverpool not Martinez.. I'll be excited to see some Spanish and South American players coming in and an end to "buy British"

    ReplyDelete
  43. The thing is Martinez wants a say in the strengthening part which the yanks not willing to let another 'manager' squander their money.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Whelan is afraid to see Liverpool in the relegation with them. As it turns out Wigan will be relegated once we take their spot lol.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Jaimie -

This isnt about agreeing or disagreeing with what he has said - I just think its grossly unfair on Martinez.   Im sure that FSG have other names in the frame but the focus has been on Martinez.  While other candidates are going privately through the interview process, I know Martinez's exact whereabouts for the last week.

Whelan is, of course, entitled to his opinion and as we are curently in a news vacuum regarding the managers position the media are bound to speculate.  Whelan must be a godsend given the ammount of airtime he has had.  I just think its unprofessional in the extreme to discuss details of a job application process.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well I spose his teams do get the ball down and play. But we have now payed off millions to Rafa, Hodgeson, Kenny, and Wigan to get to here

    ReplyDelete
  48. I could not agree more.  I think the whole Suarez affair poisoned Kenny with the media, whereas Martinez is a breath of fresh air and never ducked anything - even when Wigan were really struggling.  As I posted yesterday, the appointment of Martinez with Van Gaal in Sporting Director role could be perfect. Whilst I accept that Liverpool were at a lower ebb when Bill Shankly was appointed, like Martinez he had never managed a top club - yet look how that turned out!  FSG are no fools and let's be honest, they have an awful lot of money at stake here!  They (and those advising them) clearly see something they like about him so we should stop bitching and get behind him.

  50. You lot are a f###ing disgrace to Liverpool FC. The club could well do without all this s##t from our own fans. Just for once remember we are Liverpool and actually try supporting the club!!! YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  51. If Martinez gets the job then true fans will get behind him! He wouldn't be my choice I would have gone for Van Gaal as part of me believes Martinez is going to find it very difficult to command the respect of the players and in some cases the fans. He does have his teams playing some excellent football but is that going to be enough? If he does get the job then only time will tell if he will be a success. YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  52. We are in a lot of trouble if Martinez now turns the job down after whelan piping up all the time, as everyone else now knows they wouldn't have been 1st choice and what manager wants to come in under those circumstances, i actually hope he comes and wins us the league and he hammers wigan back into the championship in the last game of the season where dave whelan belongs....

    ReplyDelete
  53. Though Martinez is not my first choice candidate but i would be happy with him in charge ahead of the likes of AVB, Brendan Rodgers or Lambert.

    ReplyDelete
  54. That's nonsense mate. I loved Rafa and thought his sacking was stupidly timed given the climate. I stand by my thoughts that Hodgson was unsuitable 4 the club. I watched practically every game including pre season and we were diabolical. I don't go to games. My opinions are net based so don't influence the club. But as an outsider i could see his style was shit. Being a fan of the pass and move philosophy Jamie why do you support him still? Pass and move isn't his forte. Its hoof and move.

    ReplyDelete
  55. An unknown quantity bringing an attacking philosophy to the table. Wenger esq. That's an example, not a comparison by the way. I'm fully aware of Wengers exploits at Monaco before moving to Grampus 8. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hats off m8. Not the sort of language i would use myself. But, hey. Some people do need to keep their feet on the ground and keep a level head. Thankfully, like myself. I imagine most folk on the net don't go to games. And the opinions, the slightly more deranged ones. Are just the result of those nasty voices in their heads. :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Id love to see him paired up with Van Gaal as Director of Football. The master and his apprentcie!!

  59. Why employ a Director of Communications when Dave 'Supergrass' Whelan is already doing the job for nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  60. We may not get relegated.. but we will flirt with it at least once next season. this is a horrid pick... Liverpool has now been relegated to the history bin and I dont see us being even a Europa contender for the next 3-5 years...

    ReplyDelete
  61. I wonder if FSG have told Martinez to get rid of the dross that they feel KD wasted their money in buying.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ad you are a f###ing delusional lemming stuck in the past as the clubs freefalls towards being QPR. But hey . we won the minnie mouse cup so lets all sing the praise of Dalglish who put us into this hole..... mindless lemming fans like you are a disgrace...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Not my number 1 choice by a long way (although I prefer him to Rodgers and Lambert) but if he is to be the man then so be it. We must support him and give him a chance!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Remember though that the foundations of that Swansea team were put in place by Martinez and Rodgers simply carried it on

    ReplyDelete
  65. The problem is mate that they'd take a massive hit on all of the signings Dalglish/Commoli made. There's no way we'd get anywhere near what we paid for them and I'm not sure they'd be happy with that.

    ReplyDelete
  66. my only concern about having RM as our Manager, is he too nice?! he is brilliant with the media, but i just wonder does he possess a hard streak, akin to that of top managers (Fergie, Mourinho, Wenger etc etc) when the chips are down & the team needs a good rollicking.

    ReplyDelete
  67. pepopel need to realise that the aim of wigans ambition every season is to stay in the premier league-martinez has done that successfully.every summer he has had to sell players.
they have the second lowest attendance in the league and for all his talk whelna isn't exaactly pumping millions into it.
i think there are better candidates out there-i think passing up van gaal is silly-but the owners wanted a young man and i am willing to give him a chance.hopefully he gets a decent budget aswell.

    ReplyDelete
  68. To the people decrying Martinez because he's only the manager of Wigan, remember that before he was Liverpool manager Bill Shankly was manager of Carlisle United, Grimsby Town, Workington and Huddersfield Town.

Now before anyone jumps down my throat with an idiotic reactionary post I'm not saying that Martinez willl be as successful as Shankly (assuming he takes the job), I'm just saying that we have to give him a fair chance (though I sadly suspect that Rafa's name will be sung from the rafters at the first sign of trouble).

    ReplyDelete
  69. If Martinez gets the job he will be given a fair crack at it by the Anfield crowd

If true I hope he can help LFC become the much respected and admired club we always were  - a seige mentality is all well and good in its right context  - but the club was in danger of becoming universally loathed back in February and no LFC fan should want that  - no matter who was at the helm at the time .

I just fear a bit of a backlash maybe on the cards from the pro rafa brigade  - I sincerley hope I am wrong .

    ReplyDelete
  72. Assuming he takes it how long does Martinez get to turn it around? Will he get a year to get into the top 4, if not will he be sacked?

    ReplyDelete
  73. whelan was also telling anyone that would listen that fergsuon is retiring next year.the old red faced bollix won't like that.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Not just comments here; check out any LFC forum, or speak to some Reds fans, and you'll hear the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  75. If Roberto has been offered the job and is thinking about it as DW claims obviously he has been asked to work with a DOF.
Otherwise he would of snapped their hands off, as it is a no brainer Wigan to Liverpool. Or is the  LFC job now a poisoned chalice that the Swansea manager turns down an interview, all sorts have said not interested and RM is thinking about it.
Before you know it Neil Warnock will be in the frame.

  76. I wanted Benitez to get another chance. That's not going to happen. If it Martinez than all the fans should unite and support him as he'll b mngr of our club. He will have my full support. 81. the Rafaites will rise again and poor old Robbo wont be given a chance by them you have to hope he does a Pardew and silences them by performances on the pitch

    ReplyDelete
  82. Dalglish earned the job on the merit of bringing a struggling club back to its feet.
    Suarez is going nowhere.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Martinez wouldn't have been my first choice but, as is looking likely and he takes the job, I will back him 100%. I watched Wigan destroy Newcastle 4-0 and their passing play was awesome. We have better players than Wigan, more money to spend and a bigger crowd to get the players going. I hope he uses his Spanish connections to bring us some of the brightest and best young Iberian talent - or uses some of what we have coming through, i.e. Suso, Teixiera, Toni Silva, hell, even Pacheco might get a new lease of life with the new boss.
Good luck, Roberto and welcome to the family!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Martinez wasnt my first choice, but if Van Gaal is DoF, then that team up could be good enough. I like the fact that when wigan play well, they are very direct, and that is what we lacked last season at several points in the season

    ReplyDelete
  85. Haven't checked other forums and not going to, I'll take your word for it.

If season ticket holders don't like it then they shouldn't renew this year.

FSG own the club and will do what they please. Hopefully Martinez negotiates a stronger position for himself as suggested by Whelan.

I believe a manager should have final say in signings.

Hodgson situation was different, he was put in place by Hicks / Gillet regime in place of Rafa. Almost anyone would have gotten a backlash from fans in those circumstances, esp with the poor performances.

If Martinez gets the job I wish him the best. Fingers crossed he is the one, maybe bring couple of players with him

    ReplyDelete
  86. I hope he is "the one" as in Neo, not explicitly rooting for him to get the job

  88. You're right about that but I don't think another season of sub-standard performances would improve their mood either. Martinez will have been told that CL qualification is a must.

Let's all get behind him for the good of the club.

  91. The business is between FSG and Martinez.  If either want to comment, they can.  It's not Whelan's place to keep talking about the matter.
I don't mean this as any kind of put down but what are you doing running a website about Liverpool FC. You're not the brightest and you don't even appear to like LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  92. The end looks to have started when credit crunch pushed interest rates up on Hicks and Gillet's leveraged buy out of our beloved footballing institution.....

But it really started when Moores realised he couldn't compete with Abramovich's ill gotten roubles

Little did Moores know that all he had to do was hire a good commercial director.......

    ReplyDelete
  93. TBH I do not think that RM has the experience to take LFC back to the top level. I think he will do what Roy Hodgson did and ultimately what KD did as well, buy average players from average teams.

    ReplyDelete
  94. its not official until the club say they have offered him the job and the other posts are right Whelan should keep his mouth shut its not his news to broadcast is it. Whelan should keep his nose out of our clubs business he has done his bit in allowing Martinez to speak to FSG if he didnt want that to happen then he should have refused. once he allowed the talks to take place he should just keep out of it. And further more if it is Roberto Martinez that gets the job then it is the duty of all supporters to get behind him and offer ther full support as we did for Houllier, Rafa and Kenny (Hodgson was different). I am one of your so called super fans I didnt want Rafa to go and I didnt want Kenny to go but its all in the past. If FSG appoint Martinez as the manager I will give him the support he deserves. The way the fan base is against managers is ridiculous we will end up with nobody wanting to manage the club.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Agreed. I prefer RM to the the 3 you mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I really hope he does well and takes us back up the table but I would give him 18 months (same as KD) - if we don't see any progress then I would like to see him step down.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Jaimie, how about a thread about the departure of David Amoo to Preston?

    ReplyDelete
  103. It's not an 'opinion' though, is it? He's broadcasting LFC's business when it really has nothing to do with him until a decision or appointment has been made. Surely it's up to the Liverpool board to let the media know, not Whelan?
The silly old Manc-lover would go ape if Liverpool openly declared an interest in one of his players through the media......

  104.  i dont think the Martinez deal is as cut and dried as some might think, that Whelan bloke is a prize fool and hes trying to get Wigan on the map with his senile rants. As time goes by and FSG get advised by more people maybe they will go for Rafa after all.Why not have Rafa with Martinez as Rafas assisstant, both Spanish both respect each other enormousy,Rafa could teach Martinez everything as he restores the mess the King has overseen. How the King can run back to his cruise ship and laugh on his deck chair sipping champagne celebrating his £8m windfall after the biggest ever failure in the history of sport is utterly disgraceful.

So Dave Whelan says that Liverpool have offered the job to Martinez and Liverpool-Kop say its so yet a couple of hours ago you claimed that Brendan Rogers was in the States to talk to FSG. Come on make your mind up. If you have no real information and can only recycle stuff out there then dont sensationalise it as a scoop.

  109. This could be the start of something special. Shanks CV wasn't special before he came to the pool, and look how that one turned out. if Pep G was looking after wigan and that squad he would have been bottom of table. If its RM lets back him 100%.

Ive already highlighted this here this week but I was appalled by one LFC fan on a forum who wrote " boo him on his debut - out by xmas " sadly that guy was not shouted down or rounded on by the other posters   - though many were disgusted by a potential roberto martinez manager situation they didnt go as overboard as that guy did .

  111. i don't trust h*n collaborators. everything they say is a lie, when it comes down to anything football related.

  112. In my humble opinion Roberto Martinez isn't the man for the hotseat. We need a manger that can build from the ground up at the top level. I don't believe RM has the necessary experience of building a club at the level, which is why (imo) the likelyhood is we won't be successful again for a very long time, while he learns. I'm pro Rafa because he has the necassary experiance, skill set and with the right backing would make us successful and consistent again. But I'd give Roberto Martinez a chance, he's a progressive manager with good ideas. YNWA!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. i wish they would remove their rose tinted glasses.

    ReplyDelete
  114. did they not have the experience then? oh yes they did and oh no they couldn't, so why give rm pelters, before he starts? unless we get relegated, he can only do better, not any worse.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Is that the same (full support of FSG) that was given to Kenny, along with his 3 year contract?, better be aiming on taking EPL next season!, at the very least.

  116. all this mess is down to the fat waiter in the first place. AA 18 million for a crock. stay away rb .thanks 4 the 2005 cl but time to move on

    ReplyDelete
  118. At least don't have to worry about him dragging us any further down. Martinez is top quality compared to the royalty. the only way is up with RM...

    ReplyDelete
  119. everybody has got to start somewhere.
atleast he doesnt have a history of being sacked everywhere he went

Either you are deaf, blind or just unable to come to grips with reality. Martinez and Rafa in the same dugout? Come on mate, wake up and smell the coffee. Add to that a director of football working above both of them. Don't make me laugh please.

FSG will not bring Rafa back. Rafa is nothing but history. Time to realise this simple fact, stop living in your delusional dream world and move on.

    ReplyDelete
  121. OMG !! i never want to see him as a liverpool manager..how can some guys judge him as a good manager after some handful matches with wigan..he might be a failure in liverpool colours...AVB or brendon rodgers

    ReplyDelete
  122. Why does everyone get up in arms when some fans don't want certain managers, we will all support the club no matter what, that is what we do.
Do those other supporters feel that if the rest do not give their support to a manager then the team will play poor because of that? we as supporters owe our support to the club and it will get that support, it always has and always will (from true supporters) when we are at an all time low and with no manager following the worst season in 50 years and it looks like we are being linked to some of the best managers in the world and the future looks bright, some of you get upset at us others who do not want a manger who has done nothing but manager first division sides and JUST keep a club out of the relegation to manage us.
Is this so wrong i mean LVG, Rafa, De Boer, Capello and you guys expect us to be happy with Martinez, well FFS im not saying all of you are saying it but you know who you are, so piss off and let us like who we want, the truth of the matter is no matter who it is, if we do not improve we will all be upset. I would just like someone with a proven track record of being there done that and can do it again because he has the wining mentality for me LVG would have been the best and i hope this is all shit and he will come and manage our great club.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Hey Jamie d  how about you piss off, who the hell do you think you are telling people to support someone else, last time i checked LFC was owned by FSG are you a partner, oh let me guess your a season ticket holder that must give you the right.
Well here is a lesson for you mate without the WORLD WIDE FAN BASE all of the EPL sides would be nothing, they would be local football just like a kick in the park.
So heres what i suggest why don't you stop telling people to support someone else or you go out and buy all of the LFC merchandise in the world that helps keep the club in the top flight.

    ReplyDelete
  124.  Here here, i was thinking exactly the Shanks, Paisley, Dalglish first time round, Wenger, fook me even Moyes who came from Preston.

If Martinez is to be the manager then every Liverpool supporter should support him wholeheartedly.

You have fans wanting Rafa, AVB, LVG, Capello, Hiddink, Rodgers and so on and so on.
So someone is always going to be upset at who becomes the manager.
Well this fan will support whoever we get, and if that's Martinez, then i am happy for him to come here, his teams play attractive attacking football, passing the ball on the ground. Which is more than we have done for a season.

Lets lay of the negativity and get behind whoever is the new manager.

    YNWA

  125. Well Whelan has lied. Liverpool denied offering Martinez the job...

    ReplyDelete
  126. ROBERTO MARTINEZ has not been made an offer by Liverpool owners
Fenway Sports Group to become their new manager, despite reports
    yesterday.

The Wigan boss interrupted a family holiday to meet with principal
owner John Henry in Miami on Thursday to discuss succeeding the sacked
    Kenny Dalglish.

Motormouth Wigan chairman Dave Whelan yesterday claimed the Spaniard was now mulling over a proposal from the Anfield outfit.

But that is not the case, with FSG instead outlining to Martinez
their long-term vision and the new management structure they intend to
    have in place.

While Liverpool’s American owners will interview several other
candidates before making a final decision, Martinez remains the
front-runner for the post and is expected to meet again with FSG in the
    coming days.

The Americans are likely to ask both Jurgen Klopp and Brendan
Rodgers to reaffirm their intention not to hold talks with Liverpool,
although interest in Andre Villas-Boas has seemingly cooled.

Michael Laudrup, who resigned as Mallorca manager early last season, may also be approached.

Whelan, who has given Martinez a deadline of June 5 to decide his
future, reiterated his belief the 38-year-old would not be happy working
under a sporting director unless he was promised complete control of
    football activities.

“I think what he has said is ‘Thank you for your offer but I only
work under the following rules: I have to have complete control of
    football’,” claimed the Wigan chairman.

“I think they’re considering his request and Roberto’s considering their offer and they’re going to talk again on Tuesday.”

Reports that Martinez was also meeting with Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner are wide of the mark.

    From the Daily Post today

  127. Martinez is a gamble but if it works then this could be the beginning of something great. He is loyal and if he gets the fans onside with results and style early on his youth and energy with the fans backing could carry us a long way.

    ReplyDelete
  128. You don't see the irony in suggesting Rodgers after your above statemant 'handful matches'????

    ReplyDelete
  129. Lesson learned?
Don't believe what you read in the papers/ on the internet until it is confirmation that it's done!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Brendan Rodgers will be manager so it doesn't really matter anyway!
And for all of those fans who don't agree with the appointment they will have to support or go away. I don't think we have many more chances before we become a joke otherwise!
As long as we play attacking football and are consistent to our best level we can be proud because at the end of the day the likes of Chelsea and ManC will go and spend double what we do anyway ...that's football nowadays unfortunately!

    ReplyDelete
  131. our complex is we dont try and win the league any more. until we start aiming higher were all fecked

    ReplyDelete
  132. agree we have to get positive. whoever comes in gets a pretty good squad. carra should be made assistant cos the new manager shouldnt have to drop him fom the squad people will use it against him even tough we all know carra hurts the team now. we really need to bring in the right players and really hope the new guy makes the right moves. we're not that far off being a really good side

    ReplyDelete
  133. Wigan with Martinez in last three seasons

    09/10...bought 12m...sold...22m
    10/11...bought 3m.....sold...1m
    11/12...bought 5m...sold 9.5m

Total........bought 20m.....sold....32.5m hence reflecting relegation fights

Dalglish.....just Carroll 35m never mind anyone else

give Martinez the chance....he is better than KD...rodgers all day long...including oneil and Lambert

Given the backing of millions he will buy good talent from around the world who will take us back where we belong and will not come outwith pathetic excuse like KD

    ReplyDelete
  134. So your saying that because Roy did't have support thats why he failed, so if Martinez has the support he will succeed, what ever happened to he just wasn't good enough, i mean have a look at his England squad Downing is there want warranted that call up?

  136. GO THE REDS BEST CLUB IN THE WORLD...............

    ReplyDelete
  137. Roberto Martinez will surely save LFC from relegating. I wonder if he is the right choice for LFC. But like they say here in US "what goes around, comes around." May he be hired as a coach and hopefully, soon enough LFC fans will realize LFC is run by the wrong owners.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Supporters are living in the past if
    they think Martínez is too
    “small-time” to succeed Dalglish.

But what exactly have their club done in recent years to
    expect a superstar managerial appointment?

The last Champions League success was back in 2005, and there have
been no league titles for over 20
    years ago.

The appointment of Dalglish was a last desperate bid to bring back the
glorious past, but instead it brought only over £70m of poor transfers, eighth
place in the Premier League and a Carling Cup.

So maybe it’s time to approach things a different way. Martínez may not have
the CV, but he has worked wonders with a Wigan side annually plundered for their
best players. Not only has he kept Wigan in the Premier League for three
successive seasons against all the odds, he has done it playing an attractive,
    free-flowing brand of football.

Martínez has potential and needs a bigger stage in order to prove it.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Considering the state of the club, I think Martinez has the potential to be a good fit for the club at the moment. I mean that in a good way, i.e., it needs rebuilding the squad and the club probably can't afford to splash big, so it needs to do it modestly and patiently.

  140. I like RM however i liked Rafa and KD. Rafa & KD where both sacked for failing to achieve 4th in the league. On that note I do hope RM does get 4th spot other wise he will be gone, it is as simple as that. I will back him all the way from day 1 and i hope he is the next shankly because he will have to be. The following problems he will have to overcome this year;

    1. entice world class players to liverpool and make them belive that his way is better than man city, utd, arsenal, tottenham and chelseas.
    2. In his first year achieve 4th spot, otherwise have the pro rafa and KD mob rear ther head.
    3. play quaility football.
    4. basically be a better manager than ferguson, wenger, (whoever chelsea get), mancini, redknapp, moyes, pardew as that is what is takes to win the league if his long term plan is to work.
    5. keep the players already at the club.
get all fans onside by achieving the above.

If RM achieves all of the above, then my god he will be awsome and be hailed as the the best thing since shankly. In my heart i hope he does it, but in my head, i belive this is a job to big at the wrong time, but i do hope i am wrong for liverpool sake!

    ReplyDelete
  141. its not what hes saying its he fact it has nothing to do with him. its amazing how liverpool have become a club who everyone in the media and alot of our own fans seem to want us to fail whats happening fsg have pumped millions in hired kenny(cos they had to) to steady the ship and now are looking to a younger well respected coach to move forward. something the fans seem reluctant to do

  146. So finally...who got real? The funny part is that this blog states to be the one which looks at Liverpool FC's strories from a critical angle, but the more I read the articles in this website, it is just another gossip spreading site. The author seem to be searching for the snippets of the Liverpool team from every source possible, quoting it here and then starting a debate instead of any thought provoking and critically looking article as the home page suggests.
