Line-Up vs. Swansea: Reina, Gerrard and Skrtel miss out. Shelvey starts...

Amid rumours that Martin Skrtel wants out of Liverpool, the Slovakian international misses out on the Reds' final league game of the season.

Steven Gerrard is still missing, presumably injured, but I doubt Enrique and Reina are injured.

FULL LINE UP:

Doni, Kelly, Carra, Agger, Johnson, Shelvey, Henderson, Downing, Maxi, Suarez, Carroll

SUBS: Jones, Enrique, Coates, Kuyt, Spearing, Sterling, Belllamy

It's good to see Shelvey retain his place after scoring in the last game, but it's disappointing that Dirk Kuyt is on the bench again, especially as this may be his last game in a red shirt.

What has Downing done to deserve another start? 37 league games without a goal or assist is pathetic, and he should (IMO) be sold as soon as possible.

A decent line-up overall, though, and hopefully Liverpool can end the season with a morale-boosting win.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has predicted a 2-1 win for the Reds, and hopes his old team can overcome the Swans and finish about Everton in the league:

"I can see Liverpool going for this, and they might as well try to end the season with a win, especially because it has been a disappointing one in the league. It might just be a case of the pressure being off them because there is not an awful lot for Kenny Dalglish's side to play for aside from finishing above Everton, something which is out of their hands".

    Jaime,
Is this the official team line-up ? or your bet on the line-up?
If this is Dalglish's final match as manager you'd think he'd play some of the kids.
If this is the line-up it' symptomatic of Dalglish's refusal to learn from his mistakes.
Where is Sterling Coady Suso etc ?

  2. This is the confirmed line-up.  I agree that some of the kids should be played - Dalglish is playing for his future, and if he loses, I think it's definitely curtains for him. He's probably chosen what he believes is his strongest available team.

  3. carra shld join downing on the bench,

  4. Dalglish fight today believe that if they save the job. Are not the only one who wants to play some kids but the king is stubborn.

  5. ... Skrtel is missing due to surgery on a fractured nose. Enrique is apparently missing through injury also.

What's the problem with this lineup? Strong, attacking and quick. 3-1 to us!

  6. We still have a chance of finishing above he bitters, so this needs to be taken into account!!

  7. If he think his strongest team excludes Kuyt than that initself is proof why he's made us a mid-table side. Can't wait for this clown for manager to get the sack.

  8. Jaimie, what's your view on Dalglish? Do you think he should stay or go?

  10. WWhat's use playing Maxi now.....all season the team was crying out for his goals and assists aswell as clever intelligence......if Maxi had played majority of games we would have been much further up the table...

But that's kd for u....the sooner he's gone the better

  14. Its obvious Gerrard has been mismanaged by the King, the only difference is the King gets no criticism because he keeps everything in house.Under the King Gerrard has had more operations and injuries due to the Kings mismanagement than in his whole career put together. When the King first came in his first words were we will look after Gerrard properly, obviously insinuating in the past he hasnt been .I remember the King signing from Celtic so i know all about his history. What i am about to say now is the truth, the more I think of the King the more my skin crawls.

  20. He ain't no king.....just a selfish man who has took advantage of his legendary status.....Liverpool is bigger than him and all the other great that have come before him and those that will come after him...

If he loved Liverpool...he should have resigned by now and admitted he messed up but instead he thinks its exciting times under him....

He deserves the sack now for his stubbornness....he shouldn't be allowed to resign he should be sacked..

  22. Why should Srktel hang around for these shambles? Clueless manager who buys clueless players and is equally clueless when it comes to team selection. The season is over right now, yet he plays Mr Hoof it, Carra, why oh why, there's Coates! Where is Raheem, Suso, Coady!? As for Spearing, Adam, Henderson, Dowining and Kuy, they should be sold ASAP for they will never be better than what they are right now. I also hope this is Dalglish's last match, he should never be near the players again. Retire him to the administration department but he must enrol at a PR school first.

  23. Really? People DO actually care that much about finishing above another midtable team, rather than looking at the long term future of our own club?? :-o

I thought it was only the smaller rivals like Spurs, City, Everton etc that prioritized morale victories over their rivals even more than 'success' for their own clubs!

  30. *If* you're right that Daglish is playing his strongest team, then its interesting that Reina isn't playing.  Would imply to me that Reina isn't up for the game and may be leaving this summer.

The most disturbing aspect of the performance to day is that it was symptomatic of the ENTIRE SEASON.

Dalglish has persisted with his POOR purchases his dire tactics and mind numbingly crass press conferences.

Dalglish today had the opportunity give us fans something to look forward to next season by playe the likes of COADY, STERLING,SUSO NGOO etc but he persisted with his disgusting shower of Downing Henderson and YES CARROLL.

FSG need to remove Dalglish ASAP I will not renew my Season Ticket or buy ANY MERCHANDISE until they remove Dalglish and appoint a capable Manager.

This is the worst league performance in 50 YEARS!
    DISGUSTING !
Then Dalglish has the temerity to say we have made PROGRESS?

Anyone who comes on here trying to defend this really poor record is a LIAR and a is DISHONEST to the History of this CLUB.

I've seen NOTHING from this seasons performance to suggest we will be in the Top Four and champions league in 2014.

Truly a fed up season ticket holder who like my two friends will not renew while Dalglish is at the helm.

    ReplyDelete
  49. As long as you are ok, that's all that matters. I'm alright Jack.

    ReplyDelete
  50. couldn't have put it better myself

    ReplyDelete
  51. How stupid does Kenny Dalglish think we are? "We're making progress" is what he continually tells us, but the league doesn't lie.

Last year he was given 100m to spend, which will never happen again, and he's blown it on mid-table players which has resulted in a mid-table season which isn't progress. Awful, simply awful.

Let's be realistic. The gap between us and those in the top 4 has widened considerably just based upon Kenny Dalglish's poor decisions and transfers this season. I don't care if he didn't pay that much for them, they were awful players to look to buy in the first place.  I'd personally order and pay for the taxi to get him out of the club.

    rant over.

  52. simple solution kenny out rafa, avb ,pep (highly doubtful), martinez, oneil just somebody anybody in

  53. Can my daughter have your season ticket? She's on a SEVEN year waiting list. With supporters like you, who the hell needs enemies.

  54. Why does O'neills name come up?? he's rubbish and has done sweet FA for Sunderland!! He's the same type of manager as KD -- much more of a motivator than a tactician -- and that is not what we need right now!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I will be very surprised if KK is still our manager next season given all the changes being made at the club but more surprised that if he is not, it would not bother me at all. The table does not make easy reading right now.

  67. Is it in the Kemlyn? If so, can my son have it, you miserable sod?!!

Why didn't you run on the pitch Tuesday and hurl your Fancard on the floor in a fit of pique - a la those nobs who burnt their EMPTY season ticket boos outside Old Trafford, or that loon who ran on at Blackburn the other night to chuck away a Season Ticket that had precisely NO vouchers left in it.....?

    Empty gesture, anyone?

  68. If we choose to replace our manager, we must go for a proven winner. As positive as folks are about Martinez I'm not sure I want a guy who specializes in saving clubs from relegation with a tiny budget. We a big club with a very distinct culture and history and nothing less then a young proven winner (e.g. Clopp, Pep, AVB) will be good enough. YNWA

  69. Full of BS.....

    ReplyDelete
  71. It's funny that no mention of Sunderland's form has come up recently...

I don't want any manager that wants to play 442 tbh - our squad just can't pull it off!

    ReplyDelete
  72. He's still the only manager in England who would come to us who has not failed at any club that he has been to, certainly not since he left Wycombe in any case.

    ReplyDelete
  73. If City are after Skrtel, let them have him. He is good but not in any way irreplaceable. In fact, that sums up most of the team. The defence are worth keeping in tact, whether Skrtel goes or not, but I've no problems seeing Reina leave, any of the midfield or Suarez, to be honest. In some cases, only if the price is high, obviously.

The Swansea performance was dire and only Carroll seemed to care about the result, to be honest. He's been getting slated, but has been one of the best 3 or 4 players, of late, and the coaching staff have to ask themselves why he looks sharper and fitter so near the end of the season. We still are not creating enough chances for him, though.
