Last month, Anfield legend Mark Lawrenson urged Liverpool to sign Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov, arguing that the the intelligent striker would be the 'perfect foil' for Luis Suarez. The Bulgarian has this week made it unambiguously clear that he will be leaving Manchester United in the summer, and according to reports, Liverpool are currently negotiating a deal for the striker.
Speaking to the Liverpool Daily Post in April, Lawro said:
"Suarez is the best ‘wriggler’ in the Premier League, the best at working himself space inside the area.
"It’s crying out for someone else to be sniffing around alongside Suarez in the box. Even someone like Dimitar Berbatov would be the perfect foil for the Uruguayan".
On Monday, Berbatov - who signed for Man United 4 years ago in a £30m deal - publicly slated Man United Alex Ferguson for not being straight with him about his first team chances, and according to a report yesterday on Tuttomercatoweb, the experienced striker could be close to an Anfield move. The report states:
"Lazio are interested [in Berbatov], but so are Liverpool, who intend to close a deal with the player in the next few days".
I conducted a survey on the site recently asking for Fans' views on the issue; almost 6000 fans voted, and the 60% agreed that Berbatov would be a good signing for the club.
Since Lawro's comments, both Alex Ferguson and Berbatov's Agent have publicly stated that he'll leave old Trafford at the end of the season, so if Liverpool were interested, the opportunity will almost definitely be there to sign the player.
Berbatov - who cost Man United £30m in 2008 - has the skill, technique and game intelligence to really make a difference to Liverpool, and despite only being a bit-part player for United this season, he's still managed to score more goals than Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson combined.
I would definitely take Berbatov on a free at the end of the season, or even for a small fee. He may be 31 years old, but age hasn't stopped the likes of Craig Bellamy, Paul Scholes, Robbie Keane and Thierry Henry having a major impact for their respective clubs.
The odds on Berbatov moving to Liverpool are currently at 12-1, with the Reds being joint fourth favourites to land him behind Lazio, Bayer Leverkusen, and favourites, Paris St Germain.

Jaimie Kanwar
joking right?!
ReplyDeleteNeed a manager, and director of football before we start signing players????
ReplyDeleteMark Lawrenson doesn't know his arse from his elbow so he should just be ignored.
ReplyDeleteyou are a complete embarrassment of an attention seeker Kanwar
ReplyDeleteWho exactly is conducting the deal for LFC when there is no manager or director of football? And exactly who at the club wants to sign him?
ReplyDeleteThis kind of crap isn't worth posting on here.
no.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with Berbatov? He still has lots to offer, and despite only making 14 starts all season, he still grabbed 10 goals and 2 assists, which is more than Henderson, Downing and Kuyt managed all season.
ReplyDeleteBerbatov also score more goals than Carroll (who got 9) despite having significantly less pitch time.
So you think Liverpool will press ahead with Transfers... before we appoint an CEO, Director of Football or a Manager?
ReplyDeleteLiterally zero chance
Things don't just come to a standstill because we have no manager or DoF. Plus, it's only since FSG came in that Liverpool have had a DoF, so why is that position suddenly a pre-requisite? What happened in the past when Liverpool were managerless? Deals that were being negotiated when the management change happened still went ahead; recent examples include Jovanovic, and Djibril Cisse.
ReplyDeleteThis is just another example of how poor this site is with made up stories like this, like a few have already pointed out, no manager, no DoF, how exactly are LFC going to sign anyway. This type of posting seriously underlines the lack of credability this site is viewed with
ReplyDeleteAlot of straikers (fulcaco,Llorente even luuk de jong, gomez, huntlaa,Higuain)
ReplyDeleteAs long as we don't pay a penny to united for him
ReplyDeleteyawn !!
ReplyDeleteWhy put shite up like this?
ReplyDelete"Liverpool to Sign frustrated striker in the next few days" is a blatant lie and a misleading headline.
If the information is that we "intend to close a deal with the player in the next few days", how are we joint fourth favorites for signing him?
ReplyDeleteWhy is their zero chance? Because you say so? Before he was sacked, Dalglish publicly stated in his last press conference that he was actively looking at transfer targets, and it's probable that several had already been identified at the time he went. If contact had been made, what happens? Do you think the club is totally unprofessional and would just cut all contact with prospective targets? Of course not.
ReplyDeleteI think they may of gone through because both players signed a pre contract agreement in January. So they had to be taken on with or without a change of management.Did Rafa not say to Houillier 'Thank you for signing me Cisse'
ReplyDeleteI dont know if any players were signed in the same way last January I don't recall there was.
Things don't just come to a standstill because we have no manager or DoF. Plus, it's only since FSG came in that Liverpool have had a DoF, so why is that position suddenly a pre-requisite? ReplyDeleteSo...you post a comment on here to being critical of the article, and it gets deleted? So much for being free to express opinion. Another example of site credibility
ReplyDeleteYes, you’re right, at least if LFC buy Berbatov,
ReplyDeletehe won’t score any more hat tricks against
us.
Worst Story Ever....
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point of pursuing and signing players that the new manager might not want when appointed? It will be a waste of money.
ReplyDeleteFunny how comments are deleted for being critical of a poor article
ReplyDeleteWhy would you think Fergie will sell any of his players to us? Dont you remember Gabby Heinze?
ReplyDeleteI think both Jovanovic and Cisse signed pre-contract agreements during Rafa and Houllier management respectively before joining.
ReplyDeleteFergiw will not allow it - so forget it - end of
ReplyDeleteHe's a free agent, go where he wants Fergie can do nothing about it!
ReplyDeleteHe is not a free agent. Earlier this year, Manure apparently exercised the option to extend his contract by a year.
ReplyDeleteIts a joke. Yes. Ferguson wouldn't let any MU players going to Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteWasn't he top scorer in the EPL 2010-11 season?..
ReplyDeleteBerbatov is a free agent, so there's nothing Ferguson can do about it.
ReplyDeleteRecently in an interview he said he wouldn't consider joining Man City, so I doubt he would consider Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteRay, he is out of contract which means he can sign for whoever he wants, Fergie cannot do anything about it.
ReplyDeleteSame with Michael Owen should he come back not that he would.
we dont want a Utd benchwarmer.... simple as that... a youner more dynamic striker needed, not an old hasbeen... we really need to shop outside of the premier league and look at younger more promising talents. and at his age, FSG will not sanction it.
ReplyDeleteIf you signed the Yak and Berbatov and played them together you would see more movement in and Old Folks Home.
ReplyDeleteYou dont know what you're talking about. Since when he is a free agent? He's still contracted to MU. Dont get me wrong. I will be extremely delighted to see him in Anfield Red but Fergie will never sell his players to us. So this is an unrealistic dream unless Berba pays off MU and make himself a free agent.
ReplyDeleteBerbatov signed an extension in January and said he didn't want to be like Tevez
ReplyDeleteBerba has bn a 30m flop for utd. Berba had his best season wen he scored some 20 goals and most of them were tap ins or gifts from opposition defenders. That season, 4 goals scored against blackburn in 7-1 wins were all 4 goals gifts from rover's dodgy defenders. COmparing caroll, downing and henderson's goal tally is not enough because in a similar comparison the likes of Yakubu , kevin doyle and Steven Fletcher will be eligible for transfer as well. It's quite funny when people use poor stats from liverpool's very horrible season as a reference. Please people ignore liverpool's stats of 2011/2012 because it was below par and many mickey-mouses have stats better than lfc's. One word to the wise is enough.
ReplyDeleteYour stories are BS fairytale land stuff. You're better off sticking to criticizing Liverpool..
ReplyDeleteDidn't Manure take up the contract option that they go extend his contract by a year if they wished?
ReplyDelete* Yakubu + Berbatov = 32 goals/assists this season
ReplyDelete* Carroll + Downing + Henderson + Kuyt = 24 goals/assists.
having said that everyone appears to think he has another year left on it so your right if he has, Fergie wont let him go.
ReplyDeleteAnd they were both a huge success werent they.
ReplyDeleteHe is not out of contract - very poorly researched, as per on this site. United exercised a right in his contract to extend it by a year in March, he has however been told he is surplus to requirements.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/21/dimitar-berbatov-leave-manchester-united
But how many goals did John Aldridge, Yakubu, Tony Cottee, Jimmy Greaves, & Denis Law score that werent tap ins.
ReplyDeleteIf Aldridge touched the ball outside of the box it was a miracle.
Right place right time merchants, Hernandez at Utd is another one, not everyone is Ronaldo or Messi.
With respect, stop making things up. Berbatov has not signed an extension yet. If he has, provide a link with the proof. Also, last week, Ferguson admitted that Berbatov may leave in the summer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17375003
ReplyDeleteYour right Jaimie, Berbatov is a poacher if you want a player to run his socks off sign Hailie Selassie if you want someone to finish his record is as good as anyone.
ReplyDeletenick hancock reckons that too.
ReplyDeleteBerbatov would be good at Anfield. He's a smart guy but he's also creative. This is good but the problem with creatives is they need confidence and patience. He's wasted at old Trafford because they want total consistency and drive (Rooney?) and bbtv isn't that type of player. He's tricky. Worth the risk definitely. Watch LFC get taken to the cleaners and pay £30m for him. He's worth 15.
ReplyDeleteNo, he is only under contract until the summer, and then he becomes a free agent. Ferguson admitted recently that he will leave (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17375003), so that suggests United will not take up the option to renew. Additionally, Berbatov himself admitted this week that he has to leave, and slammed Ferguson in the process. Seriously, some people need to wake up and see the factual reality.
ReplyDeleteIn that interview, he said he wouldn't join City 'out of respect' due to the fact they're in the same city. I doubt that would rule out LFC.
ReplyDeleteOh that's right... Everything you say is fact, and everything everybody else says is nonsense. For the record your opinion is about as important as the rest of us, and I doubt very much that John Henry nips round to yours for a coffee and a chat about Liverpool transfer policy? Which means that you know the same as the rest of us, so please get down form your high horse.
ReplyDeleteExactly who is going to sanction the deal then Jamie? Who's going to negotiate the players wage and the terms of the contract? John Henry? The Melwood dinner Lady?As a free transfer Berbatov would probably command £70K + plus a week... maybe 2 over years - which would cost around £6m. Nobody has the authority to sign that amount of cash off on a player the next manger my have no interest in.
Common sense dictates that all first team transfer targets will be put on ice until a new manager is installed. It doesn't take a genius to work that out
So I stand by my original comment. There is Zero chance of this deal, or any other going through until a new management team is in position
yeah but the 4 players you mentioned still don't add up to Yak and Berb's age!!
ReplyDeleteStats count for nothing! Ask Damian Comolli where it got hiim!
'If Aldridge touched the ball outside of the box it was a miracle' - Haha - good one, and so true. I can't recall a single goal scored by Aldridge from outside the box. The closest he came was in the FA Cup Final in 1989, when he arrived on the edge of the box from Steve McMahon's pass and scored. Still inside the box though.
ReplyDeleteIf so, in relation to the first sentence, fair enough but I still think he wouldn't be interested in Liverpool, as he has some form of 'respect' for Manure, enough to knock back City. Its not a big difference between City and Liverpool, in terms of how to disrespect Manure. Of course, this is speculation on my behalf, but I don't think its unreasonable speculation that he wouldn't disrespect Manure and join Liverpool.
ReplyDeleteWhat has age got to do with it? Bellamy was Liverpool's second most creative player this season, and he's one of the oldest in the squad.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have some kind of inferiority complex. Where did I say that my views are 'fact', and that everyone else's views are 'nonsense'? that's right, I didn't. I'm just arguing my points, just like you and everyone else, and if you can't debate without projecting stuff that doesn't exist onto what others say, then that's your problem. It obviously goes without saying that everyone's views are equal
ReplyDeleteLooks like the club don't want to spend money.
ReplyDeleteYes, he was, but according to some, he's apparently not good for goal-shy Liverpool.
ReplyDeletemy god is that where you think LFC is at? signing journey men? get a grip Mr K, there is more chance of Martin Unreal being next manager than Berbatov playing for us...
ReplyDeleteYou may be right. Given his vitriol towards Ferguson in his interview this week, perhaps he might cone to LFC just to spite him...
ReplyDeleteThey can still take up an option to extend his contract and still let him go in the summer. That is a possible reality.
ReplyDeleteIf he is available on a free, I would take him anyday, 20 tap ins or 20 world class goals don't make a difference, he can get in the right areas and get goals that win games, let Suarez get the world class goals. We need to score more and berbatov scores goals
ReplyDeleteI didn't find that interview that damning or aggressive from Berbatov, somewhat conservative and telling like it is about the lack of team selection by Ferguson. Considering in the same interview he said he wouldn't join City, would suggest that he isn't that bitter either, not enough to spite Ferguson.
ReplyDeleteI don't have an inferiority complex Jamie. I merely pointed out this is in a non story.
ReplyDeleteYou still have to be in the right place at the right time to score "tap ins"!! Remember Kuyts hat-trick against united? I don't recall any Liverpool fans questioning the legitimacy of his goals that day.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool badly require a proven goalscorer and Berba definitely has goals in his game!!
With respect, you're the one making things up. If you actually listen to what SAF says in that interview in the link you yourself posted, he states that United will take up the option they have over extending his contract by a year. Embarrassing non?
ReplyDeleteyes i agree they are goalscorers but you wouldnt want them both on the pitch at the same time
ReplyDeleteBerbatov's agent two months ago said that he would most likely leave England but who knows eh
ReplyDeletehe would probably convert half of the shots that hit the woodwork as he has a habit of goal hanging and I have no doubt would be first to the rebound.
ReplyDeleteYes, and you conveniently miss out everything else Ferguson says, i.e.
ReplyDelete* DB needs first team football
* He can't guarantee that
* As such, DB may have to 'look elsewhere'
Combine that with Berbatov's comments this week, and I think it's clear that the prevailing probability is that Db will leave United this summer.
Right, he will be leaving as United don't need him and are trying to inject pace into the team. It's just you've been stating 'Berbatov will be a free agent' and 'Berbatov has not signed an extension yet' which are both completely false statements.
ReplyDeleteUnited will be getting a fee as they took up an option to extend his contract by a year in March.
Drogba is leaving Chelsea it just has been announced, i have just emailed John Henry to sign him.
ReplyDeleteHenry has just emailed me back and said, Hey Billy I just looked up this Drogba guy on Wiki, he seems quite a good player, and he scored against us in the cup final, must of been when I went to the John.
Jeez, they are NOT false statements:
ReplyDelete* Berbatov WILL be a free Agent. In fact, he's a free Agent now because United have NOT extended his contract yet. Ferguson has stated he intends to do this, but it has not happened yet, ergo, he is a free agent.
If Berbatov has signed an extension, please provide the proof that this has happened. Thanks.
Rubbish, Jamie. Dalglsih was fired partly for his transfer dealings. Why on god's earth would Liverpool go with players DALGLISH identified as transfer targets when his recent history of player purchases was abysmal. It makes no sense whatsoever. We will sign no-one until we have a new manager, and rightly so.
ReplyDeleteAs for Berbatov, it is his attitude that concerns me and I, for one, would not want him here. We need players for the future, not players coming to the end of their careers rapidly. If he ain't good enough for Ferguson, he sure as hell isn't good enough for us.
I don't know what you're not understanding. It's very simple, United had the option to extend his contract at any time by a year, they exercised that right in March. His contract is now not due to expire until the end of next season, at which point he will be a free agent.
ReplyDeleteHere's some help - read the first paragraph properly http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/21/dimitar-berbatov-leave-manchester-united
More links http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/feb/29/manchester-united-dimitar-berbatov-contract
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2108581/Dimitar-Berbatov-set-Manchester-United-stay.html
So jeez....they are false statements!
Anyone got a source that states something explicit from Ferguson or Berbatov that Berbatov will leave for free this summer?
ReplyDeleteAll we got on record from Berbatov and his agent is that he will leave, nothing has been said about being able to move on a free transfer/as a free agent. We got nothing on record from Ferguson either that Berbatov explicitly WILL leave on a free transfer or as a free agent.
Nothing publicly has been clarified with certainty either way, whether the club has exercised the extension clause or not, at present.
whats wrong with berbatov? I tell you, first of all hes a manc, is that little to you? secondly, do you know how slow he is? probably slower than carroll, third do you know how lazy he is? united players always rank him as the laziest in their training, and finally im sure he forgot how to play football as he spent 95% of the time on bench at mancs, these are enough reasons for me not to accept him.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason you're not allowing me to put links to newspaper articles on here? From the Guardian
ReplyDelete'Dimitar Berbatov is resigned to leaving Manchester United this summer. The 31-year-old striker started only five Premier League games this season, despite United taking up the option to extend his contract by a year in March.' Just Google United extend Berbatove contract and it's the first article that comes up.
So they are false statements and you're wrong.
All the things you've mentioned are arguably irrelevant. Berbatov's job is to score and create goals, and he has done that:
ReplyDelete* 80 goals/assists in 151 appearances for Man United
* Goal or assist every 1.8 games
* Average of 20 goals/assists per season since joining United
Who cares what if United players call him 'lazy' in training? End product is all that matters, and Berbatov delivers goals and assists at a much more frequent rate than the likes of Carroll, who is 8 years younger.
When Benitez comes back he'll only need someone to put pen to paper on a contract for a player.Someone who will be TOLD who to bring in!
ReplyDeleteBring him on ----- Rafa is THE MAN !
If continuity is to be rekindled at LFC,Rafa can get it rolling again! He brought Dalglish back with the same intention but got stabbed in the back! He is the only one capable of doing it.
lawrenson also told us in january that darren bent was odds on to sign for us.
ReplyDeleteberbatov could do a job, very good finisher and great on the ball.woud give us a much needed other option but i'll be surprised if it happens.
It was probably the 'plonker' Parry, who brought in Robbie Keane, even though Benitez did'n't want him!
ReplyDeletei'd gladly take a flop like him over him downing and carroll in our first 11.
ReplyDeleterafa isn't coming back, thank god
ReplyDeleteIf he is free sign him up!!!
ReplyDeleteI will not argue about him being capable of offering something or not, he just might be able to do something, he had plenty of rest sitting on the bench last few seasons to be fresh and willing.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't think it is the way Liverpool should be going, getting an older player to help scrape a few points when the club is in it's 3'rd CL-less season and needs to start finding young players that can carry the club to success in 5 years time.
It is not just scouting for kids that show promise but also giving those who earn it a chance to prove themselves worthy of PL.
Rafa did want Keane but only if Barry came as well, according to Rafa in a interview.
ReplyDeleteRafa wanted Barry to compliment Keane on the left side of midfield but when told there is no money to buy Barry, he decided to cash in on Alonso.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you understand, it was just an option taken up by United to extend an existing contract by a year, not a whole new contract, e.g new deal, more money etc as in the examples you gave. Why would the United website announce an option uptake when the only reason it has been exercised is so that United get a fee when they sell him this summer.
ReplyDeleteIt was not Berbatovs choice whether to sign the extension or not, it was simply a right United had. Why would they let him leave for free when it's their option to extend his contract by a year and get a fee?
This season everyone under the sun has been linked with Liverpool. It would be ultimately up to the manager who we hire to make the final decision of-course. Anyone coaching in the premiere league would be familiar with Berbatov and with his exploits the season he got the golden boot for scoring more goals than anyone else.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Danny Welback , Sir Alex's current big target man is really not a better than Berbatov. Welback only gets the nod because of his age and his pace. Danny is seen as a representative of the future of the Man United attack. There is no doubt that he will only get better. Berbatov is the finished article in my opionon. Dimitar is a very intelligent player who knows his own limitations. When it comes to ball control and technical skill Berbartov is a much better player than Welback. Berba has scored hat-tricks on two occasions last season, and he is a better hold up player than Liverpool's Carroll.
Clearly he represents a more physical presence than Andy, which is really what we have been missing up front. I believe that Liverpool should play upfront with two strikers and that Carroll should have to compete for a starting job on the team. Liverpool needs at least three out and out strikers on it's books and I have no problem with Berbatov being one of them.
He may be 31 but he still has a lot of goals left in him and he will also brings the experience of somebody who has not only played in big games but actually won the motherload. That is in reference to the season Man U won the treble. i believe Carroll and Suarez for that matter could not only benefit from a player who plays with a lot of confidence like Berbatov but he could also elevate their game. I think the Bulgarian would represent a good piece of business.
We need a proven goal scorer no matter if it is Jackson Martinez or Dimitar Berbatov. I do not see the fact that he is not playing regularly at Man U to mean that he is now damaged goods. He is a decent player with a good food-balling IQ. He is still an asset to any team.
who would people prefer in the box? a proven 'lazy' finisher like berbatov or a workhors like kuyt who will never score 20 league goals a season for us.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree!! FSG will be pig sick about the money Dalglish wasted.. No way they'll allow any signings until the new manager is in.. It's not just about any fees, it's about the wages of another player on the books and depending on the managers style and formation will determine who's in and surplus to requirements.
ReplyDeleteTwo different things I think. One is a clause that allows the club to extend the contract (due to the option given in the original contract, signed by the player) and doesn't require a signature by the player. The other is a new contract by way of extension/new contract agreed by BOTH parties, hence signature by both parties required.
ReplyDeletePlease don't patronise me - I understand perfectly. The ins and outs are irrelevant - the only fact that matters here is that, at this stage, United have not confirmed that Berbatov's option has been taken up. Ferguson has stated that he plans to take it up, but that does not mean he actually did so. Additionally, the official United site has announcements for all previous contract extensions except Berbatov, so on the balance of probabilities (Luis Suarez's favourite phrase), it's more likely that United have not yet taken up his option.
ReplyDeletelol how small does this thing go
ReplyDeleteNo its not - the guy needs many chances to score one. He lacks anything and would only slow the team down
ReplyDeleteThis small :-)
ReplyDeleteSean Dundee.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I am not interested in how small your thing goes.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with Berbatov is that he is hugely inconsistent. People forget that despite winning the golden boot a few years back (with only 20 goals) 12 of them came in 3 games. He shows in in flashes and if he was to move to Liverpool it would be a step back.
ReplyDeletewouldn't be my first choice at all, hopefully we'll sign two strikers because we need them and he'd be one of them.
ReplyDeleteremember having a look at another lfc 'fan' site last summer.one huy continully presed for us to sign dj campbell and peter odemwinjie.
ReplyDeleteHe didnt get stabbed in the back! Think before you write.
ReplyDeleteUnited fan here. Interesting reading your comments about Berba. Just thought I'd come here and sort out some issues you lot are struggling with -
ReplyDelete1. Sir Alex said last week that we won't sell Berba unless we received a fair offer that matches our valuation of him. This would imply he isn't in fact available on a free as you say.
2. Dimi, in an interview yesterday said that he's loyal to United and wouldn't move to City. For what its worth, I suppose you could include Liverpool in it as well. Yes, he is a modern day footballers and you can't believe everything they say but Dimi has an excellent relationship with United fans and has always been well behaved no matter how badly we've treated him. You'll find all United fans agree he has been mistreated.
3. About some of your comments about him being lazy, slow etc - I only need point you to his hat trick against you lot. He is still a class player. If you don't get him, you don't get football. Best technique and first touch in our squad and would easily be a massive signing for you..but you might as well look at other targets coz he ain't coming.
The signings last summer had fsg's spending policy written all over them.
ReplyDeletewe want him. He will be a good partner with suraz and carrol because he is good finisher
ReplyDeleteBerbatov is to old. what a joke, is that what they mean by going forward? stupidity. that's nearly as stupid as Capello as manager!!!!!! Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy memory of Berbatov will always be him CHEATING against us in an FA cup game on 09/01/2011. After very minimal contact from Agger he took a dive. "I condemn all cheating" so Berbatov should never be at LFC. Anyone agree?
ReplyDeleteJamie look at what you said Ferguson admitted he will leave, Berbatov admitted this week he will leave. Please figure it out they knew he'd going back in January if not before and instead of letting him leave on a free they took up the clause to extend his contract in March http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/21/dimitar-berbatov-leave-manchester-united. They protected their backs as they'll now get a fee and can block him from joining certain clubs. So unless Fergie regards us as finished we won't even get to talk to him officially. Also what the hell are we doing attempting to sign players in when we have no manager and no director of football?
ReplyDeleteEven though i support Liverpool , I will give credit where credit is due. Berbatov is great striker and has come off the bench and scored more goals than some striker with a lot more starts. He is a good foot-baller of that there is no doubt.
ReplyDeleteI heard today that he is definitely looking to leave United this summer. He is no idiot, he knows that he can't sit for another whole season on the bench . He has to compete with Chicarito, Rooney , and Welback it ain't happening. I personally don't care if he comes to Liverpool or not. I think he would be a good choice for my team if he were to join Liverpool. We do however have other younger options available so Berbatov is not our our only target.
I don't think his manager is doing him any favors by keeping him around. If anything he is doing a lot of damage to his game. He will be less effective when he is finally called upon because he would have played so few games. Strikers need games to stay sharp that is a proven fact
the yanks bought us for a pittance and everyone thinks kenny spent 110 mill but his total outlay since he took over was 22 mill and the next manager will only get 30 mill to spend they dont give a toss about the club they are only in it to make money
ReplyDeleteI'd rather have players who can't score than a dirty manc and anyone who says different i assume isn't from Liverpool. This ain't gonna happen. We have Carroll and Suarez, we may sign another young lad for more competition and if we need more quality usually Gerrard is added to the mix. Just as Carroll and Suarez start to look good together in come the boo boys willing one out the team, back em or sod off
ReplyDeletewell,, i seem to recall some of our beloved players doing a dive from time to time,, should they be sold?
ReplyDeleteThey should be reprimanded internally by the club, AND WE SHOULDN'T ENTERTAIN BUYING A CHEAT.
ReplyDeleteIf we signed Nat Lofthouse and Dixie Dean in their prime some of you would have a moan
ReplyDeleteBerbatov = CHEAT .... 09/01/2011 total dive. Dont buy the cheat!
ReplyDeleteYeah the club is a little too ambitious for you . It actually wants a top 4 finish and unfortunatley contrary to your belief it is going to need more than just the offensive efforts of Suarez and Carroll. Liverpool couldn't score goals to save their lives. We have a great player in Gerard but he has not really been himself for a long time. He is clearly not the player he used to be. We need more offensive muscle that is for sure even if it is a dirty Manc. No i am not from Liverpool but I have supported them since the 70's that makes me really loyal i think.
ReplyDeleteNot good enough should not be the issue, he's a cheat (dive against LFC in FA Cup january 2011).... WE SHOULDN'T SIGN CHEATS...
ReplyDeletevitriol? hardly! lol. If you think that's vitriol me calling you a pansy must be vitriol too!
ReplyDeleteLol What did Suarez do against Arsenal? it was the same amount of contact!
ReplyDeleteYou = moron
This has to be the biggest joke ever.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who's dumber, Jaimie (he has a long history of form for stupidity) or anyone who believes this article.
As a Manchester United fan. let me clear one thing up.
Dimitar had a automatic 1 year renewal on his contract which was at the clubs discretion to exercise.
The have done this hence he is NOT available on a free transfer. SIR ALEX has on numerous occasions said that he will probably leave, but will NOT leave on the cheap.
But Jaimie, don't let a little bit of research get in the way of your silly rumours lol
Point 3 is incorrect. Paul Scholes has the best technique and first touch in out squad, but spot on about the rest, except i don't think he's been mistreated. He's being paid a handsome sum and is not being subjected to any sort of humiliation, he's just had limited playing time. Hardly mistreating him considering the fact that the club own his economic playing rights.
ReplyDeleteAnon - re the three comments I've just deleted - if you post any further comments containing insults, you'll be permanently banned.
ReplyDeleteI guess Scholes, Giggs and Berba are all up there as far as technique is concerned. I'd still say Berba's first touch is the best in the squad, if not the league.
ReplyDeleteAs for mistreatment - that need not always amount to humiliation. Sir Alex himself has repeated acknowledged feeling horrible when he has had to leave out Berba. Not even naming him among the subs against Barca after the season he had had was very harsh in my opinion.
yes but if he signed for Liverpool thats 3 less goals conceded next seasn
ReplyDeletewho doesnt dive these days
ReplyDelete31 is ancient.
ReplyDeletei suppose you think paul scholes is shite aswell?
Sorry jamie your wrong again. Manure took up the 1 year extension in march.
ReplyDeleteMy heart says no as he is man u and he is a sulker but my head says maybe a good short term solution....Mind you owen is a free agent as well but too injury prone he would go down like a lead balloon
ReplyDeleteY is ther manure adverts on this site?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call Berbatov a journeyman, he cost the mancs £30m - NOT the fee of a journeyman but, at the time, one of the highest rated strikers in the Prem.
ReplyDeleteWould I have him? As long as they can stick the ball in the net, I don't care who they are (as long as they're not a convicted paedophile, rapist or murderer)
Doesn't a club's managing director deal with a player's agent to thrash out salaries, bonuses, signing on fees, etc?
ReplyDeleteWhat if Rooney became available on a free and wanted to sign for us for £10k a week?
ReplyDeleteHe is not on a free, Utd have exercised his option for the 2012-2013 season. Check their website and a recent interview with Fergi on Sky.
ReplyDeleteEven so Bayer Leverkusen will be far ahead of us for his signature. Bundesliga has shown a fair amount of kindness to rejuvenating aging Strikers careers.
But if your point is we need a player of his caliber and ability, then i agree with you wholeheartedly.
Personally Steven Fletcher is a player i think can play a role @ LFC. No CL makes it tough to find top players...take a punt on Lukaku maybe the Blues will sell him?
They still could have pocketed an awful lot of that 110mil ! Instead we've got Henderson, downing, Adam, and Carroll (although I think Carroll will be good next season) the others need to take a look at themselves!!
ReplyDeleteNo thanks. I'd rather eat glass that see Rooney in a Liverpool shirt.
ReplyDeletewould even an Evertonian want him free on 10k a week
ReplyDeleteKind of goes against everything that FSG supposedly stands for...... Too old, Too expensive (wages), no resale value at the end of his contract. So probably bullshit. However he is quality and I'd take him but nah not gonna happen.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Ferguson, Berbatov doesn't play as often as he'd like because he is too slow and slows down the United attack. Yes he can score goals, but he was only ever used sporadically by United because he didn't suit their style of play. With the pedestrian midfield we have at the moment we need fast tricky players, it would seem at least in Ferguson's eyes he is not quick enough.
ReplyDeleteIt is really likely that Ferguson would permit this to go ahead, isn't it? He DETESTS Liverpool and would be delighted to see them go down, so why on earth is he going to sell them a player when he never has before? First class nonsense.
ReplyDeleteSkill, technique, game intelligence, summed up to perfection JK.
ReplyDeleteThis man has velcro on his boots and whilst Suarez is off the scale when he is good, he can be extremely wasteful a lot of the time as we know which could really really improve with Berba slipping him in the box, Drogpa is 34 and still Deadly.
Absolutely PURE Class
And before anyone starts saying WHO is going to sign him, Tom Werner or the dinner lady can sign him. my point is that if LFC really want him they will get him (although it would be a lot easier with a Manager without doubt as he will want to hear about certain assurances regarding himself and the club)
Granted he knows how to find the net but he is hardly the young hungry striker that will give our team the needed injection of pace so badly required. Thanks but no thanks, even for free, unless we plan to sell him during pre season.
ReplyDeleteYou are on the 'wind up ' again Jaimie , let me ask one question.
ReplyDeleteHow many times through our great clubs history has a Manchester United player transfered to Liverpool , and vice versa? 4 ,I think, from memory.
Remember the last time this was famously muted ,Gabriel Heinze , he eventually tipped up at Real Madrid, a thousand miles away from Merseyside.
Sir Alex Ferguson would never sell a golden boot joint winner from last season to a rival, its as mad as I have read elsewhere today on one Manchester United forum.
United to sign , Fernando Torres ? lol As if Chelsea would approve of United signing a possible , although doubtful currently impotent , top class striker.
Can you imagine the shame , of both clubs ,United and Chelsea, if they were both to reignite their careers at their most ferocious of rivals for the Premiership title.
Although like most Liverpudlians , Mark Lawerson is having a laugh, he knows it , we know it.
All good fun.
Fully expect Dimitar Berbatov to return to Germany as part of a make-weight deal in exchange for Borussia Dortmunds, top Polish striker Lewandowski
Yes he is a Poacher Brian, and I'd refer you to the Hat Trick he scored against us not so long back
ReplyDeleteWOT, say's you !
ReplyDeleteName me one, just one business on this planet that that is not in it to make money (except Charities) ?
ReplyDeleteNet spend Gross spend Godsend, no matter how you try and jiggle the figures it STILL does not change the Fact that he spent 120 Million Pound of FSG Company Money.
Kindly think about this slowly and carefully and the penny may drop.
And whats all this don't trust a yank shit.
They could argue Don't trust a Liverpool fan as they screamed their tits of for KD and look how that turned out
Your right Billy, broke my heart that did, but as a football fan I really had to admire him for shear skill and accuracy, it was like he had velcro on his boots.
ReplyDeleteHe really is a Propper class player who knows the Prem, also players like Berba are like chickens teeth to get hold ofLets put it this way Bill....who would you have Michael Owen or Berbatov ?
You still Whinging on about cheating.
ReplyDeletePull yourself together Janice and move on
What, you mean like all them ex man u players now Playing at Everton Jackie
ReplyDeleterepeat of this season pls no....gerrad spend more time on the doc's bench then on the pitch these days so pls give me a break.
ReplyDeleteWe have been nice. They took Owen, we take Berbatov. To get a $30M striker on a free - how wrong can the deal be?
ReplyDeletethe guy scored more goal in 14 games then half our team put together in a whole season.
ReplyDeleteI think he was looking to bring Barry in to add competition. Not to replace Alonso. Only when O'Neill held us to ransom upwards of 18 million did we give up bidding.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Berbatov scored many goals in a Man U set up where they had wingers bombing down, Rooney doing a lot of leg work and etc. I agree he is a good finisher but we need other players and not just Suarez to do a lot of the running for Berbatov to be effective.
ReplyDeleteIf we start hoofing the ball at him or cross aimless balls into the box he probably won't score too many.
I don't think Fergie would sell a player to a competitor, we are no longer competitors.
ReplyDeleteI think we need to go for Luuke DeJong who may grow into a Van Persie class striker or a striker with pace. We won't be able to attract players of the calibre of Radamel Falcao, Hulk or Cavani.
ReplyDeleteBerbatov is a good poacher on the day but Fenway will be looking to sign young, cheap options. We lack pace up front.
You replied to my comment about Benitez being stabbed in the back! he brought Dalglish back for two specific reasons ;
ReplyDelete(1)To be an ambassador for the club
(2) to look after the accademy after he had revamped it.
But Dalglish undermined him because he wanted Rafa's job !
Incidentally , don't suggest that I should think before I write! keep that sort of comment to yourself! or DO NOT REPLY TO ME!
Then, you tell me who can bring the club back together better than he! Benitez spent 6 years at Anfield, and there is'n't anyone else at the club who is capable of running the football side of things apart from a few that Benitez brought in! There is nobody from Liverpool,no ex-players who have any idea of running the football aspect for the club.
ReplyDeleteIf there is someone then, YOU suggest who!
Your going on a bit now Janice
ReplyDeleteHey Billy, do you reckon our Luis throws throws in the odd dive or what
ReplyDeleteSHE BANGS SHE BANGS
ReplyDeleteDalglish didnt undermine him thats just a childish over reaction without any justification or thought.
ReplyDeleteof course they all do but not in the class of Ashley Young and Drogba
ReplyDeleteBerbatov, Michael Owen is always injured and your paying good money for him to sit on his arse all day or spend all day at Chester Races.
ReplyDeletePhil Chisnall 1964 was the last player sold between clubs, 25 grand.
ReplyDeleteOnly 8 ever and 6 of them were before WW 2.
According to my mate Statto Steve
There you go again 'sonny boy' with your comments; 'childiish' ! I have supported LFC since 1952 while still at school! What about you ! If you want to talk down to people, then don't reply to me!
ReplyDeleteI have a different opinion to you,so we can agree to disagree!
I say that benitez was undermined by Dalglish. You can think what you like.
Just don't respond to me again, because you have said nothing of substance to argue the case!
Enough said; Bye Byn son!
Ant reply will not get through to me again!
Regarding Dalglishes transfers, and the money spent. Has anyone thought that Kenny may have just identified the positions required, then Comoli highlighted the players? And certainly the fees paid have nothing to do with Dalglish, that would purely be down to the board/Comoli/Commercials.
ReplyDeleteexcuse me for asking, but what was the major impact that Craig Bellamy had last season?
ReplyDeleteyeah but liverpool bought a racist in suarez. wat do u say about that?
ReplyDeleteman utd all the way. liverpool you are finished just a dusty old ornament! you need some black players in the side!
ReplyDeleteliverpool aint doing shit! your finished loool! man u the greatest. even shitty everton are better than you now! hah hah hah hah u silly muppet
ReplyDeleteInstead I wish we buy Arjen Robben from Bayern. His dribbling skills and body movements will create Suarez more space and chances to score goals.Robben as well is a goal merchant
ReplyDeleteHey, Gforce that is a stupid comment, after everything said on the subject, it takes a tool like you to right that on here.
ReplyDeleteI find it a bit rich that someone who doesnt like criticism throws unfounded accusations like "back stabber" around. If you cant take it dont give it. And i'd like some proof that Kenny undermined Rafa
ReplyDeleteThey will never sell to us.
ReplyDeleteWhat part of he's under contract do people not understand? Just because Jamie says he isn't doesn't make him right, I provided the link, and Fergie will NOT sell us anybody
ReplyDeleteHe also admitted he would never join a rival like Man City (that includes Liveprool too)...
ReplyDeleteIn fact this isn't even a rumour, it's nothing, it's taken out of thin air by you. Seems like every time i enter this page I get more and more disappointed every time, so much garbage news stories! :O 99% everything i've seen on this page is bullshit
ReplyDeleteWhy do you print this stuff, you know there is not a chance in a trillion of Ferguson selling a player to us.
ReplyDeleteDave Dave Dave, Calm Down, and check the bottom of my post,
ReplyDeleteIt is clear that I am Responding to Ali_c.
I agree with you over Raffa
Your Talking Hogwash
ReplyDeleteI've been to Chester races Bill, there are some nice Phillies there
ReplyDeleteAshley Young would win Gold at the Olympics for it
ReplyDeleteBerba would be a great addition 2 any team and yeah would no doubt combine well with Suarez!!! Unfortunately not many players around with his type quaility's. But you have to be realistic chap he will not arrive at Anfield, sure have u forgot who he plays for..???? Jamie some of your posts lately are rubbish man get some proper speculation which would even seem plausible ya twat!!!
ReplyDeleteNo google moneyball or Billy Beane
ReplyDelete
