"This is what I want" - £10m Liverpool target responds to transfer speculation...

Last week, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish visited the Liberty stadium to watch in-demand Swansea star Gylfi Sigurdsson in action. The Icelandic international is coveted by several top clubs in the Premier League, including Liverpool and Manchester United, and when asked about his future today, the on-loan midfielder made it clear that he wants to stay in the Premier League.

£10m-rated Sigurdsson has grabbed seven goals and two assists in fifteen starts for Swansea since arriving in January, and he's keen to continue his Premier League adventure. He told Sky Sports today:

"I'm not worried about my future. My thoughts haven't changed. I've told them [Hoffenheim] what I want to do next season and that's play in the Premier League.

"Hopefully things can get sorted in the summer. I don't know what will happen. We'll have to wait and see".

Sigurdsson is undoubtedly playing well for Swansea, but I'm not 100% convinced a move would be wise. After the Andy Carroll debacle, is it wise to spend big bucks on a player with limited exposure of top-flight English football?

Will Dalglish even be here in the summer to make transfer decisions? If he's scouting players then he must feel pretty secure in his job, or why bother wasting the time?

  3. he is everything henderson should be and for almost half the price , he was good with reading and also hoffenheim when played would be great in a freee flowing team , also with suarez and stevie . I love players like him who realise you can score almost anywhere in the box if you place it in the far corner. great shooter of the ball cant remember any great goals from outside the box this season cant even remember good longshots. would love to see him in a Liverpool shirt cuz hes a manc fan ;)

  5. This kid is great. He has been delvering the goal for more then four years and more then 20 goals in the championship, i dont see him as a risk buy.  But he is a Man U fan and would never come to Liverpool because his dream is to play for Man U.

  6. Have LFC said they want this kid? No. You Kiddies should all stop getting your tits in a twist over a newspaper fabrication.

  7. Difference between him and Carroll i technical ability... players like him can play their way in to form. Carroll is a one-trick pony and sh1t one at that.

  9. I'm a Liverpool fan but also a Wigan one, and a Wigan season ticket holder. Saw Sigurdsson at Wigan this season. He utterly dominated midfield, like Gerrard can when on top form. By contrast, when Liverpool where at Wigan, Adam was woeful, and I didn't realise Henderson was playing until about 20 minutes into the game.

    This guy is class

  14. I watched this guy when he was at Reading and he is class. A very special and talented player. In Germany he scored goals and in the Championship and Preimership. He could be a real coup for LFC. If we don't sign him and Man U do we will regret it. Plus stop slating hendo, Adam and Carroll. They will come good.

  15. Firstly Kenny is here to stay. Hence the scouting for new players, old school method. previously commolli fed the crap to the gaffer with his hi tech BS.
Secondly this kid has the movement and knack for goals like RVP. If on the cheap why not. But 10mil is out.

He has flair and so by default is a step in the right direction.

Of the topic, I was disappointed to find that Roy Hodgson has once again been professionally raped (inappropriate?....ahh well) by being placed in a 'lose, lose' position, first with us and now with England.

The fans, players and more importantly the press, want Redknapp, and Hodgson knows it.  He went on record earlier in his West Brom career saying he would only take the England job if the fans wanted him but I fear another Graham Taylor situation for English footballs gentleman.  If things don't go his way and he resorts to rubbing his face in the hope a genie will shoot out of his nostril he won't be able to take the ridicule.

I'm no fan of 'team England' but I wish Hodgson well.  He is going take Barrells of flack from all quarters after England get knocked out in the group stages, then Redknapp will walk into the job safe in the knowledge he has time to prepare and build a side.  The FA are ***** for doing this, they know it is an offer that Hodgson's pride will not allow him to turn down...when really he should.

  17. I like him and people are rightly weary about buying someone on the back of 6 months good form at a no pressure club.

As for limited English experience, he played for Reading, Crewe and Preston before moving to Swansea. Impressively, he was Hoffenheim's player of the season last year at only 21 and in his first season. Apparently fans have been so annoyed by his absence that some supporters have chanted his name in his absence.

  18. Jamie what sort of a question is this . Will Daglish be here next season? The owners has said he will and he will be  buying the players. Is this your twist in the article?  Here we go again.

  19. no manager can go about his job thinking he is going to be sacked, of course kenny is scouting, but that doesn't mean he is staying, it's up to Fsg to decide, this season is  beyond disappointing, we'll see what's going to happen in may and june we'll see

  20. I wonder which team you was supporting in that game ......

  21. Very good player. Yes, he hasn't had much first tier football but worth a gamble at £10m. I like watching him and Joe Allen at Swansea, really use the ball well. Likes to play behind the front man in a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1, though can play deeper.

Though I don't see us bringing in a central midfielder or at least, low on the list of priorities as we have blatant problems up front and on the wing. Maybe Dalglish was watching Dyer?

Me thinks maybe Sigurdson would suffer from Gerrard-itis, e.g., have his natural game curbed by the presence of Gerrard in central midfield.

  22. Maybe KD is gonna take over Comolli's Job

  23. As an Icelander I have been watching Gylfi closely through his career. This kid lives and breaths football. He is the most exciting thing for Iceland since Gudjohnsen and I think Gylfi is better.

At the tender age of 22 he is already Icelands best player. A freekick specialist and can hammer the ball with both feet with a deadly precision.
He has flair and a very good understanding of the game. He tends to always place himself in the right position.

He scored with Reading, Hoffenheim, Swansea and the national team too. Being Scottish, Dalglish must have seen when Gylfi by himself sunk the U21 team of Scotland with 2 wondergoals.

I believe Gylfi can be a great player for any team in the world. Though he is a Man U fan, he is very professional and intelligent. He would jump at the opportunity to play for Liverpool if he thought it would enhance his career.

  24. I have watched Siggurdson a few times and he has been top drawer quality every time, could be a 20 goal a season midfielder like Fat Frank(If he takes penalties)

  25. Would go for him rather than Elm... Have seen them both, Sigurdsson has impressed me more, plus he has PL experience over Elm who I have doubts would make it in the PL as he gets a lot of time in Holland. Swansea play good football, and he has fitted in, we like to play similar to Swansea so thats good.

send 7-8m to Hoffenheim, job done. If not, keep Aquilani.

  26. What kind of comment is "would love to see him in a Liverpool shirt cuz he's a manc fan" ?

    Unbelievable....get a grip!!!

  27. He's half decent....but we have plenty of "half decent" players...we're Livepool Football Club and half decent won't suffice........

  28. I welcome any player to liverpool but that player has to able to perform at the highest level.

    ReplyDelete
  29. We have quite a few who are less than half decent too , and two of them will almost defo start on Saturday , canny lads tho but ! Crazy in it ?

  30. and carragher is a liverpool legend who was an everton fan....lots of players don't play for clubs they were fans of....what kind of stupid comment is that!!??

  31. There are laways flops made in the transfer market, even by the mancs, sure we had a few more flops than normal but i think henderson will get better, though he shouldnt be a first team player at this stage. Downing will improve too i believe and Jose Enrique has had some indifferent games but in all a good pick up. Thing is any new player could be a flop but dont deserve to be judged til they get a chance to prove themselves, id welcome him if he was to be brought in.
