Pearce blasts 'shameful' Liverpool star...

According to Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, beleaguered striker Andy Carroll merely 'stumbled' in the box against Newcastle, which caused him to fall over in the box. Whilst Kenny's defence of his players is understandable, any objective observe can see that Carroll dived.

Dalglish gave his 'stumble' assessment to BBC commentator Johnathan Pearce after the defeat, but during the game, Pearce made it clear in no uncertain terms what he thought of Carroll's histrionics. He said:

"Carroll did very well with the header, and the chase, but there was no touch at all [from Krul].

"Had Carroll kept his feet after rounding the goalkeeper, he would've scored, but he chose to go down.

"It's shameful. Carroll needs to take a very long look at himself. I wonder what the great Newcastle and Liverpool centre forwards of old would think about that".

Andy Carroll dive Newcastle United

If Carroll didn't dive, what are the alternatives?

* He lacks balance and coordination to such a ridiculous degree that he fell over his own feet (admittedly, this is likely)

* A rapid gust of wind blew him to the ground.

* He tripped over his laces.

When it comes to balance, Carroll makes Emile Heskey look like a tightrope walker.

Diving aside, I can understand Carroll's frustration at being subbed off; it must have been humiliating for him, especially in front of his hometown crowd.

Questionable man-management from Kenny Dalglish?

  1. blatant embarassing dive.
if suarez had done that the press would be having another witch hunt.
carroll should be ashamed,he had a fairly easy shot on goal if he stayed up.
his head obviously isn't in the right place-whether that's due to himself or bad man management i'm not sure.

I think this is a hard one to judge. I think he started the "dive" thinking he would get touched, he didn't so he tried to get some balance back and failed and fell over. If you see his right foot he knew if he put it forward to retain balance he would have lost control of the ball. Either way the last weeks have not been good enough. Here's something to make Jaimie happy....#bringrafaback

  3. I don't even know if our strikers can hit an open target so i'm definately not assuring that he would have scored anyway!

  4. So KK should have kept him out there just to please Carroll. 35m pounds worth, produce the goods and then worry about your pride!!!!
Carroll has far more things to worry about than the geordies abuse!!! If he doesnt start producing it will be the KOP very soon to join you JK in your damning assessment of the player!!!!
Personally I don't rate him and never felt he would fit at Anfield but do not feel it useful or fair to continually knock him. Just let it go now, LFC made the decision to sign him at ridiculous money so gota accept hasnt worked now move on!!!!
As for Sunday, even KING Bellamy was shite and should have been hooked at Half time!!!!!

  5. Sometimes, KK, just call it how it is, instead of looking like an stubborn old goat

  6. In mitigation, I don't think Carroll actually appealed. If he were looking for a penalty then I think he would at least raised an arm in question. I know he ran back after the ref and words were said but he may have just been questioning the booking.

It certainly looked like a dive and the fact that both feet were together when he left the ground suggests a dive but I can't help but feel the lack of an appeal warrants him the benefit of the doubt.

  7. Chi Bai, Puki Mak , Burit and other expressions  of great joy. Poor Caroll, he and Liverpool have been taken for a ride by the 35 mil.pounds price tag.

  8. Carrol should have run straight and got him knocked down by the keeper. This was how Man Utd won their second penalty in Stamford Bridge.

  9. City was denied a point against Swansea due to a marginal offside goal but lost another point when Sunderland secored a clear cut offside goal at Staduim of Light. Man Utd got 2 very soft penalties at Stamforf Bridge I think this is how the champion of 2011/2012 is decided.

  10. Aye, its one big conspiracy(!)

Anyhoo, what has either Manchester side got to do with this thread?

  11. How do you stop players diving?  Managers should call it as it is and there should be an automatic 1 game suspension to go along with the yellow card.  Shame on KK for his 'stumble' comment (I think he almost choked on the words as he said them) but this goes across all managers who 'didn't see it' or whatever other excuse they come out with instead of being straight.

  12. If there was no water in the pool when Tom Daly did a triple inverted pike from 15 metres - would that also not be classed as a dive?  Never read such rubbish!!

  13. I actually think that Carroll played as well and looked as committed as the rest of the team, probably more than many. So, no, he shouldn't be kept on to keep him happy, but his performance was no worse than anyone else's. So this was probably one game that he could have stayed on the pitch. After the abuse, I think it would have been better to keep him on.

  14. I take it the "Never read such rubbish" comment at the end was a review of your own posting.

What has Tom Daly and an empty pool got to do with anything? U should comment under StaffsTool from now on, you tool.

What Newcastle, Sunderland and Villa did to us this summer was embarrassing, and always will be. As the old saying goes, at least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask.

With hindsight you're right.  There was no benefit whatsoever in taking him off.  The boy, however inept, is already low in confidence what was the point in confounding it?

  17. Not saying he played well, but, as with many teams, there always seem to be certain players who get hooked far more than anyone else. To bring the guy off while the guy was getting dog's abuse, unfairly in my opinion, although he deserves it once he decides to dive, was just humiliating. It just gave the crowd another chance to jeer him and he wasn't playing worse than anyone else in the team. Now, on top of everything else, it looks as if we have disunity to contend with. Gerrard telling Kenny to get off the pitch was a bit embarrassing as well.

  18. Carroll is a big fan of Newcastle, perhaps he had no intention to score against them. What he did, was shameful, he could have scored. He's a flop, I can't see him having any beautiful career at Anfield. We don't need him alongside Henderson and Adam.  If Carroll would have scored, the game could have been different. Unfortunately, Kenny throw both Bellamy and Carroll against their former team which I think was a poor tactical decision.

  20. kieron your arguement made the assumption that andy carrol can think, the only thing that went through carrols head, was to assume that all the geordies will laugh if he tried to shooting and hitting row z, i just wish i could see your dads face knowing. KKK is a joke

  21. some people just dont know how to help themselves literally, is it no wonder liverpool fans by the hundreds are just getting fed up of carroll, then kennys poor excuses to follow.
worst liverpool team and lack luster performences i can remember. will it get better any time soon????

  24. ok im a toon fan and despite my hate for carroll i must admit that the amount of abuse shown towards him was a bit over the top. but having said that, after the way he dived and tried to deceive everyone whilst playing against the team he supposedy supoorts doesnt really help his case. but at the end of the day liverpool didnt deserve anything from the game let alone andy carroll. we were simply to damn good. think liverpool need to rethink there expectations at the moment coz they are noot playing very well at all. at the moment liverpool ar looking like a mid-table team at best.

  25. Impossible to tell, but it looks like a dive. The only thing you could suggest is that his touch after rounding the keeper will almost certainly take the ball away from him, so maybe he's trying to keep control and simply doesn't have a third leg to take the next step that would be needed. His right foot takes the ball and, in order to not just continue to boot it out of play, he needs to hold it back and try to cushion the ball to keep control. That means he can't just plant it on the ground and keep footing, he'd never be able to recover possession. I'd say that had he tried to keep his feet the ball would have just rolled off harmlessly into touch behind the goal line.
Either way it is, as suggested, somewhat embarrassing, but nothing more or less than what any other footballer has done many times in a career. Carroll isn't playing great but I'm still not sure the answer is to just get rid of him. He's not total rubbish, he still has great presence in the air, still manages to get to the ball and has good size and power to utilise. Like I've said so many times, we need to forget about the price. At 35 million he is a "flop" but if you imagine him instead as a young lad coming up through the academy then you'd be mad to sell him. Try and simply evaluate him as a football player, no price involved. It's not as if having him around, fighting for a place on the team would be a liability. He HAS scored Prem League goals and he HAS made England squads.

  26. what was he thinking? he did so well until he dived

  27. That touch on the ball to "evade" Krul was so clumsy. I doubt if he even stayed on his feet he would have been able to tap that in, because the defender would have been running in to clear and Carroll's acceleration is a well known fact. Krul did very well to fool Carroll too, for a striker making that run, it has to be fluid and relentless in one sweeping motion, Carroll let Krul lose his focus and look what happened. Thats what made Torres so deadly. And if that was Suarez he would have dragged that ball instead of trying to knock it past Krul, seriously, Comolli or Dalglish have to come out and say who really wanted this guy playing for Liverpool, because he is a sorry excuse for a football player. How many of you fans, never had a doubt in your mind when Carroll made that run, I for one thought he would miss-control it, instead it was worse, he dived after miss-controlling the ball.

  28. Couldn't agree more! The quicker they bring in a "citing officer" as they have in rugby the better.  Divers and other cheats/dirty players can be yellow carded within 12 hours after the finish of the game.  Only way to stamp it out.

  29. Still think he has the attributes to come good with the right coaching and tactics. Even if we could get him up to the standard that he was last season before he joined us. As a minimum, our club should be able to do that, get players playing at the standard they were at before they joined. When they cannot even do that, questions need to be asked.

  30. The more i look at it the more I'm convinced that he dived

I tried to give him benefit of the doubt, but watch Krul withdraw his left arm just in time to avoid contact

Carroll probably thought he'd get Krul a red card

    Pathetic, almost an open goal

  31. There is nothing I'd like more than to see and hear Carroll booed unmercifully every time he touches the ball ( i.e. hardly ever ). This is a man who makes a fabulous living from a sport for which he has no ability whatosever - he deserves all the crap that comes his way and then some extra. In Spain, where I live, he'd be barracked unmercifully. Of course, Liverpool supporters will put up with anyone except Roy Hodgson, who they disliked because he had an almost imperceptible speech impediment.
They are even bigger losers than their team, I'm afraid.
