FT Video - FA Cup Semi-Final 2012: LFC 2-1 Everton. Suarez and Carroll goals...

Kenny Dalglish has named a very predictable line-up for today's FA Cup semi-final against Everton. After FSG criticised the club's performance in the transfer market, it was inevitable that Dalglish would name all of his flops in the first XI, probably in the hope that they will prove FSG wrong in this showpiece game.

FULL LINE UP

Jones, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Henderson, Spearing, Gerrard, Downing, Suarez, Carroll

SUBS: Gulacsi, Enrique, Maxi, Kuyt, Shelvey, Kelly, Bellamy.

* Despite scoring two goals in the last game, Maxi is dropped yet again, which makes it the 5th time the Argentinean has been dropped this season after scoring.

* After the Champions League Final in 2007, and this season's Carling Cup Final, Bellamy misses out on yet another showpiece game for Liverpool. I can't see him staying for next season after this latest snub; I'm sure he would've preferred to not play against Blackburn and then start the semi.

* Half-fit Johnson ahead of Enrique at left-back, and Carra in the starting line-up? The mind boggles. Why complicate things? Why not just play aces in their places?

* I agree with the inclusion of Carroll, purely on the basis that he scored in the last game; but Henderson and Downing? What have they done recently to deserve a place in the starting line-up?

HALF TIME

As a result of a defensive mix-up between Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher midway through the first half, Liverpool trail Everton a goal to nil in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Everton have had the better of the first half, and it's the same old story from the likes of Henderson, Downing and Carroll: no end product, and precious little in the way of real attacking threat.

FULL TIME: Liverpool 2-1 Everton

Jelavic: 1-0Suarez: 1-1
Carroll: 2-1

* Well done to Andy Carroll for scoring another winning goal; He kept going despite missing a host of chances, and that shows a winning mentality.

* Solid performance overall; hopefully, the team will be able to capitalise on the feelgood factor and climb to a respectable position in the league table.

On 15th April 1989, 96 football fans didn’t come home. We’re now over 20 years on, and the families who lost loved ones still don’t know the full truth about what happened on that fateful day.

The Hillsborough Families Support Group campaigns vigorously for the truth to be revealed, but have to rely on donations for funding. This year, in conjunction with Liverpooltees.com, they are launching a ‘charity t-shirt’, which will cost fans £12, of which £4 goes directly to HFSG. There are two fantastic designs which we think any Liverpool fans would be proud to wear.

Liverpooltees.com have set their target at selling 1,250 t-shirts - which will raise over £5k for HFSG - and are calling on all football supporters to buy the shirt and to spread the word amongst the faithful. “We’re proud to work with HFSG, and would really urge Liverpool fans, or football fans in general, that if you only buy one t-shirt this season, let it be this one. Buying one will make a difference”.

If you would like to help out, you can view the T-Shirts at the following links:

Margaret Aspinall, Chairman of HFSG, believes that it is great news that they are still in the thoughts of Liverpool fans.

"This is yet another great example of how Liverpool fans still remember, still offer their support, and continue to help the Hillsborough Family Support Group in our fight for justice"

  1. wtf man carra right back, johnson left back? johnson is there and enrique too why is kenny complicating so much, i really cant understand this man, carroll again, no bellamy again this is funny sh.ite

  2. The abysmal Carragher at right back who couldn't trap a bag of cement and get's done for pace everytime. Drenthe or Gueye will kill him " potentially". He can't overlap either and be part of the attacking play. Carragher at right back is awful to watch. No balance at all.

  3. What is going on in the mind of KD???
This is the worst starting line up ever seen this season especially for a FA cup semi final. I think KD need to prepare himself to pack his luggage to leave Anfield.
Carragher Right back? Is this a joke?
Enrique & Maxi on bench? Why?
It would not surprise me if Everton dominate this game.

  4. Arvan? Liverpool are a very mediocre side. Anything can happen in this game. Midfield is weak too. I dont rate Spearing or Henderson. Spearing is a good little digger but lacks qualtiy and Henderson, well he's cowardly at times and goes missing for long spells. Felliani could dominate. Not impressed at all.

    ReplyDelete
  5. No, Carra and Skrtel play in centre.  Johnson in right and Agger in left.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Gerconroy, if midfield is strong then surely Liverpool would dominate the game and create a lot of chances. But how can you expect Henderson and Spearing going forward? They won't. Everton are going to make us suffer in midfield. I guarantee that.

  7. ESPN are saying Agger at left back and Carragher alongside Skrtel

    ReplyDelete
  8. maxi really deserved a start, hes a tap in king, always finds space to score , kenny is so un thankful , i see everton winning this to be fair

  9. I think your being a bit harsh. Firstly for me Henderson was one of our best players against blackburn. This guy is even a better defensive midfielder than spearing. His problem is confidence and improved quality  in his attacking side.

Why would bellemy go? Come off it.Your over reacting here. Daglish is trying to build for a future and   is trying to instill a winning mentality into the youngsters.

You spoke of maxi but I remember a game  maxi played this season were  he missed 4 comfortable goals.

Enrique has had a couple of poor games recently so a rest will be good and Johnson has  done  good on that side.

Bottom line is if we win cool. If we lose then the knives will come out.

    Just my opinion.

  12. This isn't funny - it's absolutely pathetic. Carragher is already a liability at centre-back, and now he's shoe-horned in at right back!? Aurelio has been ready and waiting to give Enrique a break at left back for God knows how long and can't get a look in??

  13. with that line up we wiil be beaten, what does maxi have to do ?

  14. I've been critical of Maxi during his time at Liverpool, as somebody that contributes nothing when he doesn't score - but the simple fact is that he is one of the few players in the current team that is currently converting chances, and as such he has earned the right to stay in the team.

Favoritism of certain players was one of my bugbears under Benitez, and seeing as the team is performing even worse under Dalglish while seeing favoritism continue to influence team selection, then I am even more disappointed with Dalglish.

  16. Well, after Bellamy missed out on the CL final in 2007, he admitted that was the main reaosn he left, saying the snub put him at 'his wit's end'.

With that in mind, it seems reasonable to suggest that being ignored for another cup final, and a showpiece semi-final may elicit a similar response.

  17. i would play henderson as a wingback hes useless elsewhere

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have faith in KD's team....we have a great bench to choose from if we need a plan B.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think kenny likes certain players, carra has no liverpool 2012 quality, why puuting him, why no bellamy, no maxi? dem, liversheet

    ReplyDelete
  20. i hope this game is a nail to kenny's coffin, sick of him, the players he bought and his selections, tactics oh and nearly non existent substitutes

    ReplyDelete
  21. come on guys, lets put the negativity aside and all support the team, liverpool 3-1

    ReplyDelete
  22. Till today I wouldve had simathy for for him if he was to b sacked. Now I don't actually care if he gets the sack tomorrow. Just how Maxi can b dropped after scoring two goals is beyond belief. And why Carrager is in starting line up.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You need even more energy to play at fullback than at centreback, so if Agger is fit to start he should be starting in his best position (where he'd developed a formidable partnership with Skrtel, as opposed to the shambles that have occurred in his absence), rather than being shunted around. Especially not to accommodate Carragher!

    ReplyDelete
  24. maybe he  may play in the final which is a big difference to a CL final. The young  guns have to learn how to win. I am just happy he is playing carol and Suarez.
I think the formation will be 4-1-3-2. With spearing playing defensive. Henderson, Gerrard and Downing in  middle and Two strikers taking turns for one of them to drop deep when we are defending.

Personaly would of played kelly but Im  not the manager.

  25. lol just read this  after replying. well spotted lol

  26. Carra is worrying, but at least Agger is back

Suarez and Carroll is not predictable

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nearly the same team that won 3 nil isn't it? Strengthened with the return of Agger and Johnson.

    ReplyDelete
  28. please sack kenny ...this selection shows he is bias and clueless...if we get beat today i hope we get thrashed and kenny sacked...no bellamy....no shelvey...no maxi .....no clue

    ReplyDelete
  29. what a beautiful assist from Carra, oh wait d'OH!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. You were saying......your statement is as useful as carragher. liability to the rest of the world but kd still pic's him. This is why we do not support him, has not got a clue about his best team and not playing enrique....well the evidence is there to see again. Ill starting supporting kd when he starts to learn from.his mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Time for plan B

    ReplyDelete
  32. As far as i can tell kenny has dropped Enrique so that Carra can have his day at wembley. What a joke proven even more so by the goal.

    ReplyDelete
  33. no plan B i'm afraid, afraid to drop carra. sticking agger out left to accomodate him. wingers are clueless while maxi and bellers are on the bench ,both of whom know how to win a game. this may be the rock kenny will perish on,we'll wait an see

    ReplyDelete
  34. Will Suarez please stop these theatrics and complains? Always hated when players behave like him.

    ReplyDelete
  35. dropping enrique makes sense, he's been really poor lately. given away a ton of possession and has put the team under a lot of pressure

    ReplyDelete
  36. why does the goal not surprise me....old nimble feet carra ...pathetic...hopefully today will  be the last we see of carra and kenny...kennys selections stink of bias and predjudice

    ReplyDelete
  37. yes of course - Carra doesnt do that does he ? make mistakes, gives away possesion and puts the team under pressure - kenny f*****d up that first half with his selection - now he has to fix it - taka carra off

    ReplyDelete
  38. How the hell did Carroll miss that?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  39. We are playing better this half but that last bit of play/shot is lacking badly.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Helps explain why Downing can't get an assist to save his life. Perfect ball in but the big goon on the end of it just not good enough.

    ReplyDelete
  41. tit for tat? Liverpool could be one up now. Maybe Carroll can redeem himself.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Get in, Suarez!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes, Maxi on!

    ReplyDelete
  44. as for me  williams etete i have decided not put my mind in any of lfc games because dalglish have already rubished the lfc team beyond reparesm for now, kenny has cause a lot of problem in the team and unless kenny is sacked before lfc can perform again. what a foolish line up to start with in these game that lfc need to win.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Maxi already on and now Bellamy, we should be winning this soon enough, especially if Kuyt comes on too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just woke up here in Vancouver...one nil to the toffies

    ReplyDelete
  47. and we are going to Wembley.....again!

    ReplyDelete
  48. give Carroll some credit, he missed some chances today but the fact that he was in position to get them at all means he's doing things well. He's getting much more involved and generally better as a player all around the pitch and has now won us two consecutive games with late headers. that's a very good sign
liverpool may have struggled at times but look at the facts: everton only got a goal from a defensive gaff, otherwise they were of little threat. kenny's choices have been vindicated and for all the whinging on this page today we've come away with a deserved win. and as we speak, maxi shows that hitting the post is just the liverpool way for this year. i'd like to see the record books, i don't ever knowing of a team to hit the woodwork so many times. for the sake of a couple of inches we could have 20 more goals this season. this is not a bad football team.

    ReplyDelete
  49. He might be quite inept technically and loves to mouth off to the ref but physically, he has certainly put himself about today Carroll, which has been good to see as that is what one of the good bits about him.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nail in the coffin? Non existent subs?

    ReplyDelete
  51. the team that finished minus carra ...should have been the one that started ... ....made up for carrol...but he has scored in his last two games and will be probably dropped

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well, we won. That'll be 2 cup finals this season, thank you very much.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Great second half performance by the team! The defence settled down Spearing brilliant, Downing and Henderson played well. Suarez scoring a one on one! Carroll kept on fighting and playing and deservedly got the winner.

    ReplyDelete
  54. We did win this, you know?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Guys, put the smiles back on (if you remember how to) we won and are going to the final - our second one of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  56. thanks for all you have done carra, but now it's time to go.

    ReplyDelete
  57. please check out everton web site, yall have a big laugh !! NOW

    ReplyDelete
  58. No doubt there'll be some who claim all Liverpool's troubles are behind them now, only time will tell. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. This has still been a pretty poor season.

If Dalglish does win the FA cup then he deserves another season but if the league form is like it is now at Christmas he needs to leave. My biggest fear is that more mediocre players will arrive in the Summer at inflated prices.

Fair play to the team for the win, but I can't say I've enjoyed the football this season. I didn't start watching football because of players like Downing and Carroll and I don't expect Liverpool will win over many new foreign fans (which are so important financially before you say you couldn't care less) if they continue to buy British.

    ReplyDelete
  59. LOL! I did think we were doomed when I found out Carra was playing CB. Sure enough he did give away our first goal.

But Carroll was once again fantastic! And thanks to Distin, we managed to get our equaliser.

    ReplyDelete
  60. you where saying!!! ha ha ha ha, ave faith

    ReplyDelete
  61. Spearing was educated as a centreback, but for obvious reasons he couldn't play there, hence becoming a holding mid. This waasn't a game that would've suited Shelvey as Everton played very compact and pressed us very tightly.

    ReplyDelete
  62. well thank KD for making excellent substitutions!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Been trying to defend Carroll! You don't suddenly become a bad player! He has got his strength back flattening defenders again and scoring now! There is hope with this team they can perform with a couple of real quality they can push on for next season!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Any full time comments JW?

    ReplyDelete
  65. You forgetting Bellamy's assault on Riise with a golf club?

Bellamy deserved the snub and was turfed out because of said assault, in my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  66. Nothing from Jamie yet. Put the halftime score up immediately. I had serious doubts seeing the team and the first half performance. The second half was probably the best performance by the team all year considering the pressure and the occasion. I am delighted for Andy Carroll who got a superb header( a far harder chance than the one he missed). The team on the pitch at the end should be the cup final team (bar reina in,  carragher out). Well done lads, great peformance.

    ReplyDelete
  67. unbelievable, moan when we lose complain when we win?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jaimie's too busy chatting with The Scum to post anything too positive about Liverpool reaching the FA Cup Final

    ReplyDelete
  69. 18 League titles, 8 League Cups, 7 FA Cups, 5 European Cups and 3 UEFA Cups.

These are the stats that matter...silverware won. You dont see any league postions in those stats because you dont get any trophies for coming 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

Yes being in next seasons champs league would be gravy... but in a managers first full season, well thats a big ask. So yes a League cup and the final of the FA cup does represent a good season. Yes our league results has not been good but we have not had the best of luck either. But I do belive we will finish 7th or better which at the worst matches Rafa's last season in charge.

Also to put things into perspective. Would you sack a manager who had spent plenty of money and came 13th in the league after 3 seasons? yes most probably would. But would you keep him if he won the FA Cup that season? no most would still probably let him go. Well that was SAF's record and he hasn't done bad has he?. O yeah he Utd came 6th in his 4th season.

How many managers won 2 trophies in his first full season in charge of a team? Well if KD wins the FA cup this season then he would have done that twice with Liverpool. Not a bad record.

Despite all of the above some will still call for Kenny's head...

    ReplyDelete
  70. No, it's called looking at the bigger picture and not just getting carried away with a win.

    ReplyDelete
  71. forgot to mention that iam one of the 'foreign fans' and i am more optmistic and patient

    ReplyDelete
  72. that is what i thought he is doing

    ReplyDelete
  73. talking sense mate

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm also one of the foreign fans, although I spent some time living in England, and while I'm more pessimistic let's not forgot Dalglish had nearly 18 months in charge. Not a short amount of time at all.

    ReplyDelete
  75. tbf, after the Arsenal defeat, (in which we were the best side by a distance) 4th place was gone, I wouldnt swap all them crappy league results after that for todays win. In reality, 5th, 6th, 7th,8th, 9th or 10th is an irrelevance.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'm only visiting to see JK and the rest of the cynics/anti-LFC fans figure out how to give credit where credit is due after embarrassing themselves with all their pre-match negativity. GET BEHIND THE FRIGGING TEAM!!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. JC had to play today just based on experience and determination. Granted he made the mistake but Agger was also not blameless there. Enrique has been average at best over the last 6 - 8 weeks so agree with his exclusion from the team. I know he is a good player, if his form of late was anything like earlier in the year he would have been the 1st name on the teamsheet. He has overplayed far too much which puts pressure on the team, obviously something we didn't need today especially with Jones in goal. Agger was the safer option and I think the result justified that!!! YNWA

  83. Great win!

Hope we can win the Final and build on it next season. The owners showed they mean business and KK showed he can still lift the palyers' morale and win even against a most stressful backdrop. The Liverpool way. I appreciate how KK backed Comolli and did not back off from taking responsibility in the signing of the new players. The Liverpool way.

  84. Totally agree, after loosing the 4th place it doesn't really matter whether its 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th considering we are already in Europa League, so winning FA cup should be priority but still can't drop further down the  table as it shows where we stand in the league and being 7th, 8th or 9th best team in England doesn't reflect good on a club like Liverpool. Liverpool should be competing for the league and finishing 4th should be a bare minimum.
Winning FA cup might give Kenny some time but he can't make mistakes anymore like he did it this season.

  87. Highly emotive win today, chuffed to bits, not sure what happened to us in the first half BUT the second half was well worthy of a semi final victory.....

Absolutely delighted with the overall result, trust Carroll to step up when we needed a goal....very happy for him, thought Kenny just about called it right for this game, i know people would have dissapointed not to see Maxi start etc..but we held our own, battled back and showed a lot of spirit and determination to win this, can't grumble about that...

Hopefully the team will push on and do the business in the final.

  90. man city was bought by their current owner in 2008. it has taken them 4 YEARS to get themselves where they are. if you are talking sense or being realistic, you would know this.

    ReplyDelete
  91. But after all we won!

    ReplyDelete
  92. He is not good enough but he scored the winning against Bluckburn and today.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I think he put himself about and we finally saw some evidence of Downing and Carroll combining, doesn't matter that he missed, it was a proper chance created and he was getting on the end of it. Was mystified with regard to the defensive line up, and the fact that that there was no Maxi or Bellamy, but they got on and the team looked better as a result. We all thought that Enrique needed a rest, but is he now not first choice so that Carragher can play alongside Skrtel?

Good performance, Everton were in good form, i thought that our players were waiting for today, after some of our league performances, and, luckily, it seems to be exactly what has happened. Hope Everton can regain their form now for their trip to Old Trafford, and give Mancini another chance to deny Ferguson the title.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Funny u come out today after the win.....so where have you been for the past 8-9 months....hiding off course. As u can see, like carroll I dont hide win or lose. Plus lets see end of season and every dog has his day and just be relieved that distin was playing today as until then it waz the same old story. ...no end product. We aint won the cup yet so hold ur horses till then and if we win another cup it will cover some of cracks but the owners have clearly stated that they want the team to be the best in the league and will not tolerate poor excuses!! Watch the space and lets enjoy the day coz they aint been many this season.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Lucky distin gave us a gift, otherwise it was the same old story as usual no end product and headless chickens. Lets enjoy the day coz they aint been many this season and lets wait for the final.....

    ReplyDelete
  96. I had this discussion with a guy at work yesterday. If a player can stay at a team which consistently qualifies for the Champions League year after year but wins nothing, would he rather swap and be part of a team that wins something? I mean, you can't show your grandkids 2nd, 3rd or 4th place 'medals' now, can you? Getting to walk up the steps at Wembley to receive a WINNER'S medal must be one of the greatest all time feelings in football. Even the Charity/Community shield/McDonald's Cup winners look happy and there's a full house in attendance.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Nah, I think the grandkids will be loving the luxurious life that was partially down to their granddad, who earned by playing for a side loaded with CL money, with their ipad 10 at age 2, their weekly Harrods shopping, etc.

  98. LFC Match Verdict:
-Carragher is past his age, though experienced but makes too many capital mistakes even a small kid who have no football knowledge sees that but not Kenny Dalgish!! His repeated blunder have cost LFC many point earlier in the league & Hats off Carrol to bring LFC the winner to the Final. LFC fans cant understands y Coates have not been in the starting11 or bring enrique or flanagan on left back then skrtel&agger in centre.
-Downing is simple useless maxi is far better & have proven that he can not only makes successful crosses but can also score decisive goals for LFC. Why still Dalgish makes Downing in starting11.
-Bellamy should have been in the starting11.
-Henderson keep to play out of position in right-mildfield where his post is on centre. This post is for a winger who can dribble & fast in movements but not henderson nor Kuyt.
-Absence of quality wingers and accurate & timely passes from the mildfield, its quite unfair to call Carrol a miss, he is a quality striker but football is played through a team & we cannot balme the stricker when he is not being rightly serviced.
-Hope J.W.henry change the Dalgish's mindset next season, there is a need to change the underperforming players with quality proven & foreign replacements.

  102. yup, perfect candidate to replace kenny

    ReplyDelete
  103. When I used to watch the reserves he was a box to box midfielder, with a strong shot and a strong tackle, but not much tendency to dominate games with his reading of play

    ReplyDelete
  104. Totally agree CM - 6th or 16th makes no difference really, hence my desire to see a focus on preparing for next seasons campaign (i.e. giving some of the reserves the opportunity to step up and continuing to develop those players that will still be in the squad next year)

    ReplyDelete
  105. Man City weren't an established CL team when they started spending.

And with a better manager, they'd have won the league this year and last year.

Failures elsewhere shouldn't be used as an excuse to seek the same at LFC anyway

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yep, I'm pretty sure those Arsenal players will be a lot happier with their careers, than those Birmingham players that won the League Cup last year...

It's all relative really - if you're at certain clubs, you're expected to win things while at others it's an unexpected bonus

    ReplyDelete
  107. I was travelling to my own football match yesterday so haven't seen the game as yet, but listened to the first half in the car. Glad to hear that even if Carroll was missing a number of chances, he was at least continually getting into the box to get on the end of such chances, and that the team managed to turn things around after half time.

Just one more game to get a major trophy into the cabinet, and neither Chelsea or Tottenham are anyway near as unbeatable as the media seem to be making out.

The cups won't make it a great season, but they will serve to save face and hopefully allow the club to focus on winning the league again asap

  108. This board has to be the biggest bunch of whiners and alleged LFC supporters that I have seen in a while.  I am all for calling it like it is, but the persistent negativity is a complete put-off.  What happened to YNWA!  Obviously forgotten out here.  Done!
