Houghton slams 'disappointing' LFC duo but it's *Dalglish* who's really to blame...

Another week, another atrocious result for Liverpool. I use the word 'atrocious' because in the grand scheme of things, that's exactly what it was. Kenny Dalglish can spout as much spin as he likes about how hard the players worked to get back into the game, or how the ref was to blame, but that doesn't hide the brutal reality: Villa were missing several of their most important players, and Liverpool *still* couldn't capitalise, and were on the verge of losing until a scrappy goal rescued a point. After the game, Dalglish's main cheerleader, Ray Houghton, once again absolved the manager of any responsibility and laid the blame at the feet of Jordan Henderson and Jonjo Shelvey.

Speaking to LFC TV, Houghton - who played for both Liverpool and Aston Villa during his career - argued:

"Too many Liverpool players had off-days today. I thought Shelvey and Henderson didn't do enough in the midfield area.

"That's the dominant position on the field; that's where games are won and lost, and the two lads didn't do it today, and that would've been a disappointment for them.

"They're too similar; I thought they liked to get forward, but we didn't see that today. Far too often, they were too close to the centre halves, and Liverpool made it easier for Villa from that point of view".

Dalglish chose the team, prepared the players and decided to drop Jay Spearing, so midfielders playing deep for parts of the game has to be expected. The problem was there didn't seem to be any specific midfield gameplan: whose job was it to hold? Who was told to take the responsibility prior to the game?

If one person was responsible then the other could've played higher up the field. Instead, it seems like neither Henderson nor Shelvey received specific enough instructions, so both just played it safe by staying deep.

I don't blame Henderson and Shelvey; I blame Dalglish for not tactically preparing his team well enough. Henderson should've been the one to stay deep and hold when the game demanded it, and Shelvey should've been encouraged to get forward as much as possible. Other observations:

* Why replace Downing with Carroll? What is the point of spending 20m on Downing if you're not going to use him to get crosses into Carroll?! It makes no sense.

* Most of Liverpool's most incisive play came from Gerrard on the right. It works, so why not just play him there all the time?

* Martin Skrtel was beaten in the air several times again, and Villa could've scored if one of the resulting headers had been on target. Aerially, he's a liability at the moment.

* Liverpool's finishing continues to be dire. Kuyt missed an own goal; Suarez shot straight at the keeper when he was through one-on-one; Carroll wasted a free header in the box by heading straight at the keeper. What is wrong with these players?

* Jose Enrique's passing and crossing in the final third is unacceptably dire. All his early season promise is being undone by his ridiculous wastefulness in attacking areas.

* Bellamy is wasted on the left in games like this. Why not just play him upfront alongside Suarez?

* Why has Raheem Sterling disappeared into obscurity again? Why not keep him on the bench for the rest of the season and give him 5-10 minutes every now and again. It seems like Dalglish just made a token gesture to shut people up (after the Spurs speculation), but never really had any real intention of bringing him through.

After the game, Dalglish used words like 'excellent' and 'delighted' to describe Liverpool's performance. What a joke; how can a home draw against a relegation threatened reserve team be deemed 'excellent? How can a Liverpool manager be 'delighted' with 9 points out of 39 since the turn of the year?

'Bastion of Invincibility'? Shankly's ideal is just a pipe dream at the moment; under Dalglish, Anfield has become a Bastion of Vulnerability, and we saw that again today.

Dalglish.  He stubbornly insists not to
realize that by stepping down as LFC manager will provide a real lift to the
overall rehabilitation of the team and be kept respected as a real Liverpoolian

  8. Nobody ever seems to recognise he correlation between Gerrards return and Liverpool's slump in form. I'm certainly not saying he's a bad player and shouldn't be in the side, but I do wonder if the players rely on him too much. I'm not sure Kenny's making some great decisions at the moment (Villa have conceded more goals from corners than any team this year. Probably makes sense to play your big centre forward), but we must stick with him and stay 100% behind the players.

  10. Where to start... Passing is getting worse each game, Enrique makes poor decisions in the final third, squandered chances in front of goal, bemusing team choices and substitutions.
Something is missing, its no good talking about individual players and how poor they are as teams with less skilled player e.g Swansea are playing better football than us.
How different from the way we played this time last year.

  12. This is for the first time in my life, I felt disgusted after watching today's match. Horrible. Dalglish is to be blamed entirely for this draw. He seems just can't enough of his ridiculous tactics.
In the starting line up, Gerrard should have been in the right midfield whereas Spearing and Henderson could have handled the midfield. Another poor player is Flanagan as well as Enrique.
Blackburn is another stern test, and I don't think LFC can win it there because the league leader MANU had difficulty to beat them.
In brief, Dalglish doesn't shout at players who are struggling on the pitch, doesn't take immediate action when the team is losing its pace and fluidity. Nearly all his signings are flops. He has to step down. I can't be patient anymore with him.
God, please bring on Benitez and I hope Carroll, henderson, Adam leaves the club.

  14. Hate Kenny or love him, Liverpool still need a new manager. That was the angriest Anfield crowd I can remember and rightly so. If Liverpool started next year like this half of the year, we'd be in the championship! I'm not overreacting when I say this, Kenny is the worst manager in the league, he literally knows nothing about today's football or tactics or talent and the other bad mangers didn't spend over a 100 million in the space of a year. Liverpool should have around 60 million in the summer from sponsorship deals and players sold I hope Kenny isn't the one spending it.

The real sad thing was watching the dippers calling for Benitez and now begging for him to come back. Sorry to say it but dalglish hades made you the laughing stock of the league and it all started with the racism and tshirt comedy, of which the majority of you lot seemed back his ill informed disregard for debency and respect. Then there's his blatant refusely to criticise a team of average (or in the case of downing, Carroll, Henderson, Adams, below average players). He's wasted over 100mill quid, brought the game into disrepute with his disgusting behaviour re Suarez and his constant criticisms of match officials.

Why is Maxi not being played whats happened to bellers, kuyt?
I'm sorry Kenny should have tried different things to change it.
Kenny is far too Rude in all interviews what the hell is wrong with talking about your team and can you really use the same lines for a year and the team still doesn't perform?

I've got to say (again lol) if we are going to finish the season like this (nothing to play for) then why not at least play 4-3-3 and go all attacking maybe we will loose maybe we will win 6-0. If the owners are going to give kenny another season then he better think long and hard as we watch the mancs march towards another title.....

  27. Gerrard's days are numbered in central midfield. Apart from a good performance here and there, he fails to control the game in the middle in terms of defensive control. He has to play more on the right. Not just because of him being a liability in the middle, he has a great cross on him.  He never was the most consistent player in a two-man central midfield.

We need him out there on the pitch but just in the middle.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with most of this article re Kenny tbh, we are a mess and there is no disguising it.

The only part that i don't agree with is that it works with Gerrard on the right so we should play him there, if it works then we would have won......and yes i know he plays well there but when you take him out of the centre.....the opposition seems to benefit, basically Kenny should have brought a RW.............

Our midfield pairing of Shelvey and Henderson as commented on were not good enough...., Kenny has finally decided to play Hendo in the centre and drop Spearing, but all this tinkering is too little too late....

Steven Gerrard is our best option as CM IMO, i just wish Kenny would stand down, he's making things worse the longer he stays, we still have players underperforming, Suarez is STILL not convincing me at all, Kuyt should be benched and then sold, Enrique seems to be playing well....for the opposing side............

Luckily Reina was out for this game or we probably would have lost.........

But has Kenny sorted it out???

NO, he hasn't, and he won't, he will just continue in the same manner with the same players making the same mistakes along with some new one's...and then blaming bad luck and anything else he can find to blame....

Maybe he should start talking about how the FA are always against us, and how the press are also....and how we as Liverpool are always the victims and always get the bad luck.

But don't worry because we played well for a bit......

Promising, very fcuking promising indeed Kenny, well done.

Great 1 point that, just great..............

  29. The blunt truth is he is a cheat, as was Carroll last week ... it is a disgrace they resort to that and furthermore that Kenny refuses to acknowledge it. In terms of neutrals, I think we are becoming more and more despised as the season goes on...

  30. The thing that got my goat the most today was KK yet again praising the players so highly and deflecting attention onto other things. He gives them far too much of a easy right.

    ReplyDelete
  31. When we played bad under Houlier, Benitez and Hodgson, it seems like it was always the managers fault for losing. Why is that trend not continuing? Why all of a sudden the players are 100% blamed for the poor performance? Of course, the players are partially at fault, but to just conveniently overlook Daglish's lack of tactical knowledge, just because he is a Liverpool legend is just plain ignorance, or worse, maybe denial? The Daglish supporters and media should not confuse respect with blind faith. You can still respect and criticise someone at the same time, a concept which nowadays seems to be unimaginable to many people. Maybe if someone publicly criticised Daglish's management few weeks ago, and woke him up from whatever state he's been since January, things could have turned out a lot different for Liverpool.

  39. winning the FA cup would ensure we have another season of this nonsense. i just cant see KD suddenly gaining a load of tactical nous over the summer.
aside from a top german or pep, i cant see beyond Rafa. these players need programming and nurturing. if henderson or carroll have ANY chance of developing into something other than championship trundlers, they need proper instructions and positions. Kenny's rag tag tactics are not working. he's more stubborn than rafa i regard to favourites, downing and henderson deserve nothing, so why not play sterling and give coady some game time and kick the lame ducks up the ass?
nothing kenny is doing is making sense and it looks like the pressure got to him. he sounds like a politician at times.

  40. Dalglish keeps going on about it being a 'squad game' but refuses to use the squad. The same underperforming players just got rotated in and out of the team on a weekly basis, while certain others (Enrique, Suarez, Gerrard, Reina) play EVERY game, regardless of their form.

Irt this article, what a load of rubbish! Games are won in the final third, not in the middle of the park. The central midfielders did their job in dominating possession and getting it to the feet of the forward players. It was then the attackers job to craft quality openings and get the goals that the team needed.

Moreover, to look through that entire team and choose to blame the two young central midfielders for not doing enough, while absolving blame on the senior attacking core of Suarez, Kuyt, Downing & Gerrard is just ridiculous.

It's not surprising though - most former Liverpool players seem to talk a pile of sh!te. This level of understanding of the game probably serves to explain why they mainly end up as failed managers and just taking up cushty jobs in the media instead...

  52. im a diehard reds fan and as much as i hate seeing our beloved club in this sort of form, im trying to see the broader picture here.
Not too long ago, we had gillett & hicks 'running' the club. we got rid of those 2 muppets and now we have no debt and owners who know what theyre doing.
we had roy hodgson at the helm and no one gave the man a chance, and we cried out for him to be replaced and king kenny came in. everyone was so happy, and we all thought it was the beginning of something great for our club.
its now april 2012 and in little over a year with KK in charge we have 1 trophy in the bag, a semi final at Wembley in another and weve already qualified for europe next year.
granted, it may not be the european competition we all would have hoped for, but its europe.
lets face facts, we havent been a champions league club for 3 seasons now. theres no point beating about the bush and sugar-coating things, our signings have not worked. with the exception of bellers, suarez & enrique, the rest of them have not met expectations.
    whos to blame?
ill tell you whos to blame. the players themselves. not kenny, not anyone else. carroll couldnt hit casey's drum and adam shouldve stayed at blackpool. im sick of people blaming kenny. the man is a legend, hes liverpool's greatest ever player, hes won EVERY trophy there is to win with us. when he came in last year he told us all to give him 3 years.
calling for him to be sacked after 1 year is ridiculous.
i know we all want success, we all want to win the EPL, we all want to get back into the champions league again. but for this season, now, whether we finish 5th or 15th, it doesnt matter, none of those league positions are going to make any difference in the league, so whats the point in gurning about it now. but what we do have still left to hope for is a chance to win 2 trophies this season. when was the last time we can remember that eh?
IMO, winning 2 cups in year 1 of a 3 year plan will be a MASSIVE step in the right direction, i dont care what anyone else thinks.
if we can do that this season, then next year we concentrate on getting back into the top 4 again.
i say we support kenny. we support the club we all love.
i think we should let the kids have a crack in the league games that are left. Stirling should get a few more games, and i think we should bring Morgan up from the reserves aswell.
lets face it, they couldnt do any worse than the current crop of players we have in the 1sts.
but get off kenny's back. he loves our club as much, if not more than we all do, remember.

We need a quality natural goal scorer just like the one Newcastle and Everton bought in the January transfer window. If we had one we'd be still in the hunt for a top 4 place! We should have bought one in the last window.

for me the new signing have let us down. Charlie Adam from the PL team of the season looks like Charlie Adam from the chippy by ours. Henderson a the Erngland U21 captain is the brunt of most fans anger but he's a talented 21 year old player that needs time to settle in at a big club (actually felt he played well today apart from the shot in the second half). Enrique looks tired and is now stuggleing due to too much football and no backup to relieve him.

Steward Downing is the bust!!! 28 years old, 30 games, no goals, no assists,  and he's not going to get any better. Everybody else will improve next season.

We need to stick together and look to next year. Sacking the manger IS NOT the Liverpool way I don't care who it is! you get a fair crack to get it right 15 months is no way enough. Some of you people arn't Liverpool supporters you should be ashamed of yourself! Everybody needs time to build a team. because football is not an exact science. Is it the manager or is it the impatience of the support that the problem?

Shankly took 7 years to build a team to win anything! You lot or few wold have had him out the door in 12 months if you had your way and we'd cease to exist as we know it

The monment Liverpool stop hitting the bar on numerous occasions and stop making chances then we can ask questions if the manager. But until then support your team...jeeez

  58. There was a point during the match (when Liverpool were 1-0 down), when I felt Dalglish has to go. First time this season that I felt that. However, I'm not a fan of sacking managers either, are we going to change our manager every season? KD definitely has to go if the players decide that they don't want to play for him, as AVB found at Chelsea. But if they believe in him, he should stay.

As you've stated SuaRed, the season would look very different if KD had acquired a top-class striker. failure to do so represents KD's biggest mistake this season. Since the start of the season, a confident Liverpool have been dominating games, but not scoring, maybe Kenny was hoping for a miracle (e.g. Carroll or Suarez would automatically become prolific - why would they?). This problem should have been addressed in the winter transfer period.

Unfortunately, following the recent run of poor form, they look like they need a striker, a right winger, a left winger/left back, attacking midfielder, a defensive midfielder and a centre back. Goes to show how devastating lack of confidence can be. Quality players, which Liverpool lack, make a huge difference during periods such as these.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Why is he a cheat? He covered every yard of the pitch and worked his balls off trying to make something happen. He falls over and the ref can't wait to book him.
Carroll didn't dive last week. He's just shit.
Funny how Ben Arfa wasn't booked ten minutes before that........

The only reason we are despised is because a very vocal minority of our "fans" are now spoilt, brattish, whining bastards.

  60. wonderfully spoken!!! spot on!!

  61. I thought the pairing of Shelvey and Henderson was good today. Although Henderson is NOT adventurous. There were times where he should have run up the field, especially when a goal down, and run into open space to receive a pass. Shelvey plays brave, and hes only 20; high hopes on him. Carroll we need to get rid of, same with Downing. These players need to learn that they have to put in a shift for every minute of the match. Downing does 2 good things this match, and where was he for the rest of the game. Not good enough, he was supposed to be one of the star players.  All in all today, I thought this was a better performance, the team actually fought today, instead of falling apart like the last matches. But its still so obvious that we lack that extra flair and quality to win games confidently.

I now believe ive entered into some strange alternative reality due to a rip in the fabric of space/time where a usually abysmal draw against a dire villa side cobbled together from the reserves is hailed as an excellent performance and a sure sign of a resurgence , " In kenny we trust " etc , etc  - it was these home draws before xmas that were killing us in the league yet today its hailed as some sort of turn around  - I understand people dont want to question Kenny especially with the anniversary coming up , but we need some sort of perspective here now  - for many fans its getting dangerously close to a north korean style 'dear leader' worship ,

Must we protect kenny to the extent that the club suffers to the point were it could take us years to rebuild from ?  Theres a cult of personality around kenny now that could divide the fans far more than the cult of rafa ever did .

Behave yourself with all the " not the liverpool way " malarky  - we are watching the club we love going over the edge of a cliff and you know as well as the rest of us that the manager would be getting the roy treatment if he wasnt Kenny Dalglish

facing up to reality doesnt make us bad fans , just like being in total denial and lying to yourself doesnt make a superfan either.

    ReplyDelete
  64. dalglish out; rafa in

old bacon face better not get another transfer kitty to WASTE on bulls**t

    ReplyDelete
  65. thats "strange" because kenny says we have bad luck ALL THE TIME

    ReplyDelete
  66. Just watched MOTD and it looks like you and Kanwar are WRONG, Madness. Suarez should have had a pen, and got a yellow for being clipped. Reputation should have absolutely no bearing on these decisions.
I was actually surprised at the amount of chances we created - it seemed a lot better on the telly than it did this afternoon. Must have been the Red Stripe......

  70. I thought Henderson was our best player today. He never gave up, always made himself available for the ball, and there was a moment near the end of the game where he won a slide tackle, got up and delivered a perfect cross.
Granted he needs to take a bit more responsibility, but it must be hard to play when you are a kid and you've got 40-odd thousand pricks on your back....

  76. "reasoned, civil discussion about LFC/football" You had an piece about some ex spurs idiot slagging off 3 of our players but when you do it, thats ok its ok? You have no idea, as Ive said before, 40 yrs a red and have seen good and bad. Noone has the right to win anything, it takes graft.

    ReplyDelete
  77. We deserved the win

Sometimes a bit of luck comes into it, look at Chelsea today, 2 offside goals

Suarez gets booked when he was fouled, also he should've had a pen when Hutton caught him

Seemed strange to take Downing off, as there was finally good ball going into he box that Carroll could have thrived on

Kuyt missed an opener alright, wouldn't blame Suarez for his left footed effort soon after. Not an easy chance

Disappointing not to win, but we did more than enough to win it. We seem not to have had ANY look this season

    ReplyDelete
  78. the better players are around Gerrard the team plays better, since thy're unfazed by his presence, I felt that way was in Rafa's team except rafa's last year, with him or without him they were able to get a result, but over relying on him is a problem and that's what happened in the last season on Rafa's reign

    ReplyDelete

  80. What is LFC without reference to the ethos that Shankly brought to the club?

Kenny is the link to that ethos.

Otherwise we are just another franchise.

You should just buy a Red Sox shirt

    ReplyDelete
  81. Agreed, but Dempsey has been excellent for years

Why has no one moved for him before, he's 29 now, our owners probably won't sanction a move....... They should though

    ReplyDelete
  82. I am sorry, but time is up for Kenny .....

    - If a manager doesn't know his best XI and can't integrate a certain style of play in nearly a full season and that team also doesn't show any understanding at all, then we really have to wonder what's happening in training ...... in short, Kenny is to blame !!

    - Another point is learning from mistakes and showing tactical acumen, sadly for us, Kenny fails in those regards big time !! His stubborness to keep playing players out position or players who simly doesn't perform to the required standards or his lame excuses everytime the team fails to live up to the expectations is just proof that he can't handle the pressure and is stuck in the past with his management skills and style ...

He is not the way forward and everyone of us knows this, if we don't let sentiment cloud our judgement !!

It was fantastic when the king returned and everybody wanted him to succeed and bring the glory days back to Anfield, but it just didn't work out.

There was always the risk that he has been out of the game for too long, but we had nothing to loose appointing him back then ... now it's a different story. We need somebody, who has a clear footballing philosophy, isn't afraid to play youngsters with great potential (this is the main part to turn Liverpool Football Club into a major force again under FSG) and wants to be here for the long haul, building a lasting legacy !!

We need to stop living in the past and being naive and sentimental (the story of the last 20 years) ....

  89. Be  a barca or real in 12 months  FFs we won't be in 12 years at this pace , fcuk i settle for being an Arsenal at this point wake up clown. Yes we expect more why not Carroll 35 Henderson 20 Downing 20 are you serious these guys played in the EPL, KK bought them why should we have to wait it has been a year you are a deluded fan and so is KK, hey lets not be afraid of the truth even if it hurts Kenny YOU ARE NO MANAGER. Bring in AVB or Benitez.

    ReplyDelete
  90. You to are lost souls to think that Henderson will be anything but average. You both are delusional, he makes himself available in our half of the pitch he has passed that many times backwards because he has no fcking idea, do not confuse it with inexperience it's because he really has no idea. If he is what we have to look forward to in the future than i for one will stop watching. Truth is KK is trying to build the LFC of old but the LFC of old would get a hammering in this modern day football so wake up KK your killing the club.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Red SA you kidding right pass and move, the LFC DNA mate you are talking about South American football good luck. We are all about put the ball wide and cross them in, just keep crossing them in. Most of English football is based on that philosophy.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Find it embarassing the way Dalglish was going on about the refs after the game, e.g., implying that it wouldn't be surprising if people thought there was an agenda against the club in terms of decisions. Silly stupid comments like that have been the norm with him. Its embarassing, the paranoid and aggressive attitude he shows in the media.

He goes on about how we have 'integrity' and that we don't moan, etc, all that nonsense but KK, not many managers this season have made a DVD of referees and made a public show of it during a press conference eh. You don't half come out with some nonsense, KK. Worse than Rafa's so-called rant, that DVD-press conference of KK's.

Shame you didn't concentrate much on the poor finishing on show against Villa, instead letting the players off the hook by praising their mediocrity and blaming the refs.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I agree with this artIcle full heartedly - bellamy tore man city apart in the 2nd semi at anfield but since that game kenny hasn't played him thru the middle n keeps wastin him on the wing or on the bench. 22 shoots but only 5 on target and 9 corners with only one goal been the case all season totally diabolical.
Can't believe shelvey n hendo are starting before bellamy similar earlier in the season when king twat started hendo before meireles. Enrique of late is doing to much on the ball cuz kenny isn't playing a regularly playing a left winger. Liverpool is in this dire position cuz of kenny's shit purchases and he knew we lacked goals in dec but stated he was happy with the squad. Henry please show kenny the door

    ReplyDelete
  94. 3 things from today:
*Carroll must be loaned out (he does not fit at lfc. We need him to go elsewhere and regain some form so we can at least minimize our losses when we sell him) and a 20+ goal a season forward must be brought in at any cost.
*we can't cross to save ourselves (Enrique is the main culprit here and has proven he is only a squad player... looks like we still need a first team LB... I won't mention downing here as we all know that he is also a squad player at best)
    * we will never play pass and move to a level that will win us the league with our current midfield. (creativity and steel required...)

    ReplyDelete
  95. as club supporters, we should stick with our team and manager, not call for their necks when a few bad results pop up. as couch managers, we can easily call what we consider mistakes here and there. but we don't really know what's going on behind the scenes

    ReplyDelete
  96. Kenny uses positive words because everybody else including all the fickle fans and alleged supporters websites are just full of negativity.
The article makes lots of negative points, no surprise there and assumes that because Shelvey and Henderson didn't play great it must have been Kenny's instructions. Both these players are young and playing under intense pressure, Kenny is trying his best to protect the players at least in public anyway, that's good management in my book.
I thought we played ok today and maybe deserved a 2-1 win. The pressure and the expectation on Kenny and the team is ridiculous, it's about time all the haters out there take a deep breath have a chill pill and be patient.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I hope 'old bacon face' isn't Dalglish. If it is, you should be ashamed of yourself. The man helped build this club and held us together in our darkest hour.

  100. You are wasting your time on this site you are far to responsible and consciencious in your opinion.

This site is for neuroticts who get blown away by fear of what did not happen now.  I can tell you in the year of Rafa rant 2009/10 I didn't see us doing as well as we did because the previous years were underperformances despite having great players in the team. We came back from going behind Man C for example we actually but a run of wins together before christmas.

What changed to make this difference??
I wouldnt say technical ability because those players did not gain anymore skills they are skilled up as much as possible.

Basically we became more lucky, belief increased and the manager then capitalised tactically to 1. be the lead figure in and off the pitch 2. They developed the feeling of never give up

You need an example think Istanbul CL.........luck, belief, tactics, leadership and hope.

Crticising the team and KK absolutely annihalates all of the above things........they you wonder why today we are so s*&! its fans like the majority here they are a curse to the team ......Go support another team.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Didn't think Suarez dived. He was tripped. Referees seems to be agreeing and responding to other EPL's players branding him a cheat and a diver. Its just the way he plays that he easily falls over because he plays with a low posture which gives him the stability and thats why he is able to snake around players.  Thats what makes him so good.

    ReplyDelete
  102. You're right, Jim. Carroll didn't dive. It was just a clumsy run into the box. Yeah, he is just shit as a forward.

  103.  You question superfans for having faith in the team and the management team ?

You major on slating individuals in their role, by your assumption  an individual is responsible for all that happens subsequently in their surroundings.  A poor environment is because the individual lack something right?

In that case I guess you must be the most successful and fulfilled individual???? Who do you think you are!!!!  Alternative reality

Your blind faith in individual efficacy is hurting not only yourself but others and it needs to stop. You and others talk as if you have insight but what makes you think your opinion has more effect to inspire a TEAM than the current person in post.  You have no clue because you don't know the players as individual.  So give us a rest a leave the fantasy football predictions to the Xbox.As an individual your opinion is full of inconsistencies making your individual opinion pointless akin to hot air coming out from the rear.

  104. Well maybe not you but I care about the perception of the club , In all the years I have supported LFC the fans have been praised, the conduct of the managers and players have been praised, the principles that Shanks built have been maintained.... this year that has faded away.... This includes Luis Suarez who frankly is bad news for the club , Dalglish and his embarassing conduct, and most of all the fans who have demonstrated double standards with their support of Kenny and slaying of Hodgson.

I guess opinions are divided on this one, take the T shirt fiasco, a lot of fans (maybe you included?)  supported that whilst some of us shook our heads in dissapointment, same with the handshake, like it or not this has been a bad year for Liverpool and not just results / performances, it has been conduct...

    ReplyDelete
  105. REDSA..hard to accept but you are right on.SAF didnt get it right 1st also.and to think the lot ask for WOY, whose sentimental now?got 1 cup in the bag..I know we can get a double..n in europe. We are better than last season..

  106. Disagree, we dont need to know what is going on behind the scenes, it is staring at us in the performances

    ReplyDelete
  107.  Did anyone see Carragher's comments about how it is better now because everyone's wives go shopping together and they all have dinner together and everyone speaks English, yeah never mind the fact that we are mid-table, as long as you can have a meal with the henderson's it all ok. We need to get these dinosaurs out of the club, carra is a legend but I don't want him coaching anyone or having any say on future football policy.

    ReplyDelete
  108.  To be honest, at the time the tee shirt thing didn't overly bother me. I likened it to someone's family supporting them during a trial etc. But, on reflection later on that evening, I did recognise that Liverpool were escalating a delicate situation

Handshake thing wasn't good, it should have taken place

Kenny needs to succeed because he is one of the only living "heir" to Shankly's philosophy, through Paisley and Fagan

If he doesn't succeed I could see Rafa returning......

Liverpool related material generates miles and miles of newspaper columns, internet chat - especially when we are on an awful run

If we were 2nd or 3rd - where we should be on chances created - there wouldn't be any of this negative Suarez stuff out there

I don't care about the perception of the club in the general media because it's anti-LFC in general in my humble opinion

    ReplyDelete
  109. Trouble is, Vorm, a minority of our "fan"base is now made up of petulant, spiteful little people who all crave instant success. And if we don't win, then they are denied their one true joy in life - 'giving it large' to their mates down the pub.
Remember, there were only 23,000 of us at the Auxerre game, yet we made a hell of a lot more noise than the 42,000 tourists who turned up yesterday. It's about time some of our "supporters" took a long hard look at themselves.
We are Liverpool. We SHOULD be winning more, but at the minute we aren't. Get over it.

Get behind the team (whoever is picked) and when results improve, which they will do eventually, the success will seem all the more sweet.

I think a lot of people on this site take themselves and the Club far too seriously.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, we of all fans should get more of a sense of perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Agree!. Hoof Hoof, Carra should never be ahead of COATES, who with the little football he's had, can also score great goals.

Another thing, we badly need goals, right?, so why are players who can get you them are'nt playing?, like Maxi for one???, I'll tell you why, cause clueless KD needs to prove a point, at a terrible cost to LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I care about the perception of the club, too, but there are always going to be supporters of other clubs who will always hate us, based purely on our unrivalled success over the years.
And they, and the media, will use any stick they can find to beat us with - thieving "scally" fans, Self-Pity City, It's Never Your Fault, Yadda yadda yadda. Look at the way the ONLY document on the Hillsborough Enquiry that was leaked happened to be the one saying 'Thatcher told Fans Were to Blame....'  Yes, thanks BBC for missing the word "WRONGLY" out of that one.
Look at the way there was Lead-Story News hysteria over the Tom Adeyemi incident, yet hardly anything when the charges were dropped.
Look at the way Robbie Fowler celebrated his goal V Everton - pure comedy genius, yet he was castigated by the media, and got a BAN, even though he was the one who had to put up with the "hilarious" smackhead jibes.

The T-shirts were a show of Solidarity, did you honestly expect OUR CLUB to hang Suarez out to dry when they KNEW he was set up, just because that is what the media craved??

Liverpool have been disliked since they became successful, and HATED by a lot of fans since Heysel. We can never change that.

The reality of it all is simple Dalglish has wasted the money on players who are now worth a frAction of what they were paid for, his tatics and substitution have been very strange.. I think more than anything else I think Dalglish and Rafa are two of the most deluded individuals with egos the size of moby dick. We just don't need them period!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Brendan Rogers.  We need a young manager, with a philosophy that adheres to Liverpool's traditions - pass and move.

We need a long term plan to build from the bottom up rather than continue with a strategy of simply spending millions in the belief that as we are 'Liverpool' we have a right to be challenging the top clubs.

Why do some people insist on re-hiring former managers who endured their own failures. It's starting to feel like we're Everton from the 90s.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Liverpool need a young hungry manager, who will play the young lads. Benitez would be trouble. Demanding big money for transfers.Liverpool should  Go for brendan rogers in the summer. Its not as if liverpool have anything to build on, the fans have to re-evaluate their expectations.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Do you recon Dalglish would waste his own money if he were at another club and Liverpool offered him the crap players he bought... Not even Dalglish would be so Dumb... The only solution will be to rid LFC of KK and his garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Dalglish stepped in when times were bad and everyone should respect that. But Liverpool had their stabilising period at the end of last season, They now need a new manager to take them from mid table to the top four over the next 3-5 years.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Is it true that we have only won one league game gerrard has started this season? I can't think of any except the Everton game? Im not saying he should not start but I imagine most he has started in the middle and it's about time he moves out wide or behind the striker.

  127. lets go for the proven formula of MUORINHO, may not be pretty but will get the results and even a top four finish.  This spend of £100m by KD and being clueless is a receipt for the disaster that we see today.  Rafe rotation and keeping the trust of players would still be an issue todat as was in the past.  Lets be serious and go for the real King

    ReplyDelete
  131. Right, as if KK really cares what a bunch of internet forums think.

He uses positive words because of pride. Pride because Downing, Carroll, Hendo, etc, were all bought under his reign. Doesn't want to admit how fallible and poor his signings have been at times.

    ReplyDelete
  132. The REAL fans who still sing Kenny's name at the game represent what our club is all about. The imbeciles who make personal attacks on our manager aren't wanted or needed by LFC.

See the bigger picture and look beyond a season of transition and rebuilding. Our management team will be analysing every component of this season and I trust them to make the right decisions to fix the problems.

    Support and Believe.

    ReplyDelete
  133. It shouldn't, but it does.  Look at Ronaldos last season at Man U, he actually cleaned up his act a lot and cut out a lot of the play acting but because of how he'd gone on before that it left the lingering suspicion that he went down easily, and ended up getting less calls because of it.

Suarez has been guilty of going down very easily a lot as well and may have created much the same problem for himself, it shouldn't make a difference but when the official has about a half second to see and judge the incident, that's what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  134. pffft

I sing his name for what he did for us as a player, as a manager in his first reign and the Hillsborough ordeal but doesn't mean he is immune to criticism.

He was never this bad when it makes to making comments in the media. So paranoid, aggressive and childishly sarcastic. This is one of the saddest thing about KK's second reign.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Clearly they didn't do enough to win it because they didn't.

Chelsea got lucky with the offside, yes, but when the chance was presented to them they put the ball into the back of the net.  When chance after chance after chance is presented to Liverpool players they miss, hit the woodwork or shoot straight at the keeper all too often.

It's not bad luck, its far too consistent to be luck, its just poor play and it needs to be rectified because if it carries on into next season then Liverpool will find themselves in the bottom half among the relegation candidates and that is a very worrying thought.

    ReplyDelete
  136. WHY WAS HODGSON SACKED? Why did the fans show dissent towards him?

Cat normally gets people's tongues when I bring up this point .... double standards with Kenny

    ReplyDelete
  137. We are seeing the big picture, the problem is, you're not, through your sentimentality, towards  KD.

We seen it with Roy, that is why he had to go. Stop supporting LOOSERS!!!, LFC are suffering, right now, and will get worse, unless KD and his clueless managerial team, step down.

    ReplyDelete
  138. if you believe fans opinions on forums effects the team performance then you are slightly deluded, unless you believe in voodoo etc... then I can see your point... porr Kenny ... not getting positive vibes from websites so the team is suffering

    ReplyDelete
  139. With you on that... Gerrard and Carragher seem destined to have roles at the club in the future which may be a disaster, they need to prove they can coach before any power is given

    ReplyDelete
  144. Henderson is actually quite good, he just needs corrective eyeglasses; to correct his vision that the goal posts are fifty meters above ground level plus or minus 60 meters off centre.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I don't know about Brendan Rogers necessarily being the man for the job, but I agree with your sentiment about Benitez and the need for a young manager.

Irt expectations, my expectation pretty much every year is what all of the top clubs in the league should be aiming for. In the same way that relegation battlers aim for 40 points, top 6 teams should be aiming for 70 points (and title contenders for 82+).

Dalglish had every opportunity to make a legitimate charge at the top 3. That he so wasted the money and left us with a squad weaker than our competitors shouldn't see expectations reevaluated downwards accordingly...

    ReplyDelete
  146. If players are intimidated by Gerrard, that is a failing on that player's side, not on Gerrard's. The problem is that Gerrard is still our best attacking player, even after all these years, and as per usual he has only one teammate that is anywhere near his individual level.

    ReplyDelete
  147. ok, so City (a nothing team previously) spent big to become legitimate title contenders within a couple of years, as did Chelsea. And a couple of decades ago Manchester United stuck by Ferguson on the way to becoming the dominant force in English football.

A couple of decades ago Liverpool stuck by a former legend as he went on to totally destroy all that had been built at Liverpool. A couple of years ago Newcastle were promoted from the Championship, changed their manager, lost their key players and yet are well above us challenging for the Champions League now. Arsenal lost a number of key players, spent a lot less than Dalglish, and yet are well ahead of Liverpool again. Tottenham were relegation candidates a couple of years ago, and are now well ahead of Liverpool without spending like Dalglish either.

There's no point in pointing out isolated incidents elsewhere, as situations at every club are different. Anyway, money and time helps, but just giving time and money to the wrong person doesn't help anybody.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Well said. Despite the results at the moment Kenny is and always will be a Liverpool legend.

    ReplyDelete
  149. There's hardly any 'personal stuff' against Dalglish on this site, and if people do slag him off in a personal manner, they're banned.  That's part of the comment policy.  Out of interest, did you defend Hodgson against the vile personal attacks he suffered throughout his entire reign? If not, why not?

    ReplyDelete
  150. this manager has just won us our first trophy in 6 years.. and just because of a few bad results, we start calling for his head. is this fair to him? is this fair to us as supporters? is this fair to the club? we should stand behind him and his team. you people from the current generation only demand instant success but hate working towards it. you have no or little patience. even roberto mancini with all that riches only managed to turn his team into title challengers in a season and a half. chelsea constantly change managers and what do they have to show for it? they didn't win the CL, the main trohpy so craved by their owner. fergie took how many years and quids before being able to win Man U's first trophy? this is only kenny's first season and we expect the world? it takes time to mould a team. this is not football manager 2012 or 2011. we are talking about living players for goodness sake.

surely he wont be given another season.
raffa is the only answer, knows the club, is up to date with tactics and players, and loves the club (like kenny)

Completely agree Carragher need to leave Liverpool completely PROVE himself like HAMMAN is doing like HYPIA is doing.
I hope when a new manager comes in he sweeps out the poisonous, back-biting, briefing, that went on to oust some managers.
Carragher is more of a problem now than a solution along with many of the players coaches & manager.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Kenny is a legend but he's currently the worst manager in the EPL.He has to go!

  155. Septimus_severus3:26 pm, April 08, 2012

I think FSG should appoint there own man.
If that own man is Rafa so be it but they need to look carefully for a manager.
    We HAVE to think RADICALLY.
The new Manager has to have the AUTHORITY TO SELL OR MOVE ON THE FOLLOWING:

    GERRARD,SPEARING,DOWNING,MAXI,REINA,CARRAGHER,AURELIO,CARROLL KUYT.

The Senior players would then be BELLAMY,LUCAS,AGGER,SKERTEL.
Make CLEAR to the fans this is a 5 year Programme and that we will not be challenging for the CL spots for an expected 3 years, but we will try.
Promote the youth and STICK with them.
COADY,SUSO,STERLING,SLIVA,AMOO promoted to the first team.

We money we generated from player sales we should buy replacements of QUALITY not potential.

Unless a New Manager is given Cart Blanche against the players who have put there OWN interest at the expense of squad improvement, we will suffer the consequences.

From what I've seen we are going to have to break up this squad with a BRUTAL axe and many players in the current squad who will be chopped wont like it.

Sometimes you have to chop off the branch to save a tree.

    ReplyDelete
  156. who do you want to replace Dalglish... and I am sure whoever comes in after 2 bad games , same moaners come in and ask for his head. if we all stick to gether and support th team and palyers support each other, we will come out of this otherwise we are in direstrait.

  157. Chi Bai lu, Kenny is a stubborn man. Besides, Henderson is no better than Lucas . We pay 20 mil pounds worth of Puki Mak stuff and the same goes to Downing, Adam and notably Caroll. Shelvey is still a green horn but Doni can fill in Reina's boots.

  158. Rafa Beniitez as manager and assitant manager DIetmar Hamann and Coach Sami Hyypia....100% sure LIVERPOOL ...bang,boom.bang again..

  159. 1) So "bacon face" is not personal??!

    2) No.
    3) Because I'm 2-faced.

I was not aware he suffered any "vile" personal attacks. I just thought he was a bumbling old man foisted on us by an inept board and a jingoistic press desperate for an Englishman at one of the 'big' clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Yes absolutley.... It's a sad reflection of modern society where everyone wants it all and wants it now and knee jerk reactions are the order of the day.  To all those so called LFC fans who think this way i have the perfect solution and it is simple as this go and support chelsea......My reasoning to this is equally simple as they have an owner who if they dont win the champions league the boss whoever he may be and lets face it they have been through a few may get some respite if they win the prem but if they cant back it up the following year with the CL they are history so you would get want you want on a regular basis.....Meanwhile you would do well to also remember that the purple nosed chap at the other end of the east lancs rd went 7 years before he won the league...As for ourselves we dont have any divine rights to win anything succsess in the the long term is based on stability as only ourselves and man u know this.... Have you seen any other side do this the only other side would be arsenal although they have not hit the heights of us or man u they are the nearest and all 3 sides succsess has been based on stability......So grow up behave and be patient dont act like spoilt kids yes i know it's frustrating but our time will come again....YNWA

    Says it all, really.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I don't understand where you guys are coming from. Only option is rafa even if Jenny takes us to Europe I don't think tactically he will cope. Look at ragas record most successful Liverpool manager since Jenny was last incharge. Coping for top four and competing in later stages of champions league beating the likes of Milan barcelona that's what we had with wen rafa was incharge. If Jenny takes us to Europe and we play barca we would probably concede 10 goals and become a laughing dtock

    ReplyDelete
  165. I have great admiration for KD for what he did for LFC.But now I think he must step down and let someone else to continue the job.Tactically KD is very poor and that's because he didn't coach for quite a long time overwise he would have been the same KD of the 80's.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Carroll never dived? Bollocks! And the fact the Kenny is barred from any personal attacks is pathetic. The guy's has lost his touch, and should be removed from his post ASAP,because if we get beat by the bitters, life will be unbearable.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Yes I was incensed by the 'leaked 'document..who leaked it and to what agenda ???.

  170. Oh I get it. Forums dont matter.....I rest at easy thanks madness.

It is true this forum is the blind leading the blind

  171. Ray houghton should be the coach instead of kenny..this guy knows what he is talking about..shelvey should be in more attacking role in central midfield with gerrard on the right wing..and why r we using carrol if we r not gonna use downing to get his crosses in for carrol to socre!!what is wrong with kenny..he is not using the right team combo and he is not playing his players in their best position..its a complete mess..we have a strong enough squad to challenge for the title but kenny is not utilising it the right way..

    ReplyDelete
  172. I know we're having a rough time of it at the moment, but I just don't get this bring back Rafa rubbish.I seem to remember during his last year or so, banging my head against the wall, wondering where he was getting his substitutions from, and yet some want to go back again. Just don't get it !!

    ReplyDelete
  173. we need some1 like harry redknapp with attacking mentality..look what he has done with spurs..and how much did he spend compare to kenny..imagine him with the power to spend 100+mill

    ReplyDelete
  174. and the answer is harry redknapp

    ReplyDelete
  175. So, what you're basically saying is that: Dalglish is bigger than the team!
No, I totally agree with Red!

    ReplyDelete
  176. Agree, it is as offensive as a lot of the other stuff that people, rightly, get pulled up for.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Fact is, there are only two players in the team who are going to win a game for us, and when they do not do it, no one else is stepping up to the plate at the moment. We beat Wolves, no problem, everyone else is doing that, and we beat an understrength Everton side with a Gerrard hat trick. Yesterday, Suarez saved a point while Kuyt is missing from point blank range. Henderson was never going to be a match winner but all the other match winners Kenny has bought have failed. Which is quite shocking when you consider the kind of player that Kenny was himself.

Next weekend, form will go out of the window, i hope, but, regardless, this campaign in the league has been nowhere near good enough and I hope Kenny will recognise this and stand down. He does not look as if he has a clue about how to fix this.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Exactly, and these guys seem to be missing the most important fact, we are going backwards and have 9 points out of 39. That is rock solid relegation form. Patience is great when things are slowly progressing, not when things are going full speed in reverse.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Reckon they let him out, couldn't imagine him having the iniative to escape. I'm sure he would think everything is great in there if his comments about the team's performances are anything to go by.

    ReplyDelete
  180. 9 points in 39 makes his opinion far more likely to right than an ar$e kissing opinion like yours. You sound like you must be a real treat to work with, backing the boss, regardless, when everything is falling apart, like an obedient peasant.

    ReplyDelete
  181. It wasn't the fact it was leaked, more the way the headlines were twisted to suit an agenda.

Face it, the FA fucking hate us, too. Why do you think we keep getting lunchtime kick-off's for Semi-Finals?  - Palace, Portsmouth, not sure off the top of my head what time the Villa one at OT was, Wycombe? Chelsea? The FA are basically saying, "None of you are having a drink. We don't want you lot spoiling our showpiece again".

I could mention how we haven't had a single decision off a ref since THE CLUB backed Suarez, but that would be paranoia.

    Wouldn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  182. He's too busy writing articles that will stir up more shit to read what some people are actually posting.

    Probably.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Oh my word!
You actually want the Used Car Salesman? The bloke who shat on Portsmouth, went to Southampton, shat on them, went back to Portsmouth and put them on the brink of administration. He struck lucky at Spurs. They couldn't really have got any lower, and have been hoarding players for 3 or 4 years.I imagine with £100+mill he would buy Scottie Parker for about £15 mill, and give the rest to his dog.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Guys, how old is Sir Alex? Why do we want to put age onto this? AVB, aged +/-33 was at Chelski not long ago. What did he achieve?

What is required of KD is for him to listen to the constructive criticism that is being levelled against him and build on that. Criticism like why is he not playing the young blood, like Raheem, Conor and Morgan. It's better to lose with these in the team as it gives us hope for the next season.
I am sure LFc will be a force to recon with again.

    ReplyDelete
  185. You can trust in Kenny, as much as you like, but your sentimentality is getting in your way!.

For your info, I have been supporting Liverpool for over 40 years, and I have never seen so much cr*p signings, for obcene LFC funds!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  186. erm JK never said 'bacon face' is not personal. He said there is 'HARDLY...'

    ReplyDelete
  187. nor long term successes

    ReplyDelete
  188. Yep, Harry Redknapp was in charge of the finances at those clubs(!)

On one hand we have people excusing KK by putting the blame at Comolli's door and on the other, we have people largely blaming Harry Redknapp for the financial problems that the likes of Pompey had.

    Gotta love these apologists

    ReplyDelete
  189. Only time will tell.

  191. Just watched Michael Garvey sing YNWA on Benidorm, and it STILL brought a lump top my throat!

How many of you lot will be able to hold your heads up high when Kenny and LFC gets through this particular storm?

I always prefer it when Liverpool are the underdogs, Gab. Bring it on.
