€12m 'Cha Cha Cha' reveals: Liverpool are 'interested' in me. Partner Suarez?

€12m-rated Colombian striker Jackson Martinez, nicknamed 'Cha Cha Cha' by his current club's fans, has once again confirmed that Liverpool are interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

Martinez - who plays for Jaguares - has made no secret of his desire to leave Mexiso, and over the last few months, he's made regular public statements about his plan to play in the Premier League.

In March, Martinez admitted that Liverpool were a 'very very good outfit', but made it clear that there were other teams interested in signing him.

Speaking to Sky Sports a couple of weeks ago, Martinez admitted that playing in the Premier League 'would be important for my life'.

This week, Martinez gave the strongest hint yet that a move to the Premier League is imminent when he told Nuevo Estadio:

"I am not in any advanced negotiations with Liverpool or Porto but I know they are personally interested. I have not spoken to anyone and that goes for my club and my agent. In the next few months thinks should be finalised.

According to his Agent, Giovanni Fiore, Martinez is 'wanted by half of Europe', so if and when he decides to leave, it seems there will be a battle for his signature.

Martinez has scored 28 goals in 53 appearances for Jaguares, and his goal record for Colombia is one in two, but how long would it take him to adapt to the Premier League?

Can Liverpool really afford to give yet another striker a whole season to settle-in? Andy Carroll has been at Liverpool for 14 months now and he's *still* struggling for consistent form, and he already had experience of the Premier League (!)

It's also possible that Martinez could do a Luis Suarez and hit the ground running, but I would personally prefer to see a European-based striker come to the club.

  1. Never seen him play if I am honest with you Jamie, but looks like a decent player.

I would hope we sign a marquee player like Damiao but it's unlikely.

  2. If our scouts are not good enough to know a good player when they are scouting then fire the bunch! Of course there is always a risk but there is a bottom line, no?

  3. As a Liverpool fan currently living in Columbia I can
honestly say this guy has got what it takes to make it in the premier league,
good first touch, good in the air and a natural goalscorer. His game is lot
like Torres and relys on quick bursts of pace to get him away from the
defender. Personally I don’t see his purchase as a risk and if we don’t sign
him now someone in the big teams will buy him for a large sum of money from
Porto in the next few years.

  4. Tim Vickery said on Talksport, this fella is an out and out finisher, Isn't that what we need???. Apparently we can get him for £5m now?, he's two-footed and brilliant in the air with good pace!!!!!

  5. Three times less money than Caroll. I would take the risk and c what happens. It's got to better than what we got at the mo.

  6. We do need a natural goalscorer with a bit of pace, haven't seen anything of this guy but he does have a good record. If we can pick him up cheap it could be good business. Then spend whatever money we have left on Adam Johnson.

  7. I always cautious about signing players that talk them selves up before moving as they usually turn out to be complete turd....Chamack and Jovanovic spring to mind but i'm sure there are others... You could compare to Cisse of Newcastle as he has allround ability and finishing but I think for LFC he is a very good "fallback" option if your main striker target cannot be signed.

  8. Good point on Porto. That is what the likes of Porto and Benfica do. Hoover up loads of South Americans and even if its only two or three out of the lot that work out, the money they can get for them is worth it. I think Benfica have around 10 South Americans in their first team squad and Porto more I think. Porto's James looks really good

  9. Liverpool could have a front 3 with suarez having a rooney role or a forlan role in uraguay, carroll is improving and dederves playim time but this guy looks like a falcao 2.0 just has a knack for scoring goals.

  10. Finally JK you are supporting partnering suarez not replacing him, how does dat make you feel? humble i guess..

  11. This guy looks good. But I'd like Luuk de Jong as I see great potential in him he would be good now and great in the future. We can't get big names like cavani or anyone of that ilk as they would want champ league. I do hope we get Adam johnson.

  12. Looks like an Ian Wright to me, Cha cha CHA, feels right!

  13. Humble? What are you talking about? Just because I make the suggestion doesn't mean I agree with it. I pose the question 'partner Suarez' for fans who want him to stay, not for me.

Notice that Jaimie hasn't wrote an article based on Dalglish's comments about Rafa and the academy...

  15. What's to write about?

    * How many young attacking players have come through the academy and made any dent in the first team since Benitez's time at Liverpool?

End product is everything; it doesn't matter how good the academy facilities/structure are if no young attacking players ever make it into the first team.

Tell me this: how do you measure the success of the Academy? What evidence is there that the academy has been a resounding success in the last 6 years?

I think if you look at what Kenny said today and what Guardiola said in the summer, in the future, we could have an academy to rival the great nurseries of European football e.g. Ajax and Barcelona.

Rafa only made his changes to the academy around 2008/2009. Before that, we had Steve Heighway that although was winning youth cups had been producing players that had not been good enough for the first team (Jay Spearing, step forward).

It's not that it's Rafa that instigated these changes...it's the fact when you have Barcelona coaches who brought through key components of this current barca team heading youth policy at Liverpool and the fact people like Guardiola and Dalglish are waxing lyrical about the potential, then I am excited to see what comes through in the coming years!

  18. How about a British based player in light of the FA ruling on local players? Look like Kenny got this covered or you gonna deny he was spot-on again?

  19. Think Jordan Rhodes would be well worth a try , if he does the biz terrific , if he doesn't sell him back to a lower league club were he's proven . No brainier to me

  20. I just assumed it was a typo!!!   :)

  21. ermmmmm!!! Why does it have to be attacking players to make the academy a success??? Flanagan, Robinson and Kelly come to mind FROM the academy!!!

  22. You make an excellent point. Steve Heighway did a great job in producing very good teams, but, sadly very few individuals capable of making it in the Premier League. Do you remember Rafa playing a Reserve/Academy side against Spurs in the League Cup? That team won on penalties and yet several years later not a single one of those players was still at the club. The LDP ran an excellent article along the lines of 'Where are they now?' They were all still playing at a good level and, therefore, still making a good living, but not one was playing at Premier League level.

Sometimes the local talent is simply not there. The fact that Paul Scholes has come out of retirement is testimony to that. He was part of a 'group of kids' that is never likely to be repeated.

I believe that real talent is born and not created. Of course skilled coaches can bring out the best, instil a team ethic for example, but there has to be something special there in the first place.

Steve Heighway once said "They not only have to be special players but special people." Mentally tough, for example.

  23.  i guess Jaimie you wouldnt have signed Javier chicharito if u were Alex fergie lets sign him seen him play he is a very dangerous player its always a risk but it may pay us back 12 mill. is worth risking than the 35 we did

  24. We really need to be looking at big proven players, no disrespect kirk, but jordan rhodes needs to prove himself in the championship first, hes only done it in league 1 to date, the players kenny have signed so far have been awful, adam, downing, henderson, carroll, none good enough to play for us if we wana get back to winning major titles etc, how many of them just mentioned would get into city, utd arsenal or chelseas team??????

We need a marquee signing or 2, maybe try and get torres back, as he is hardly setting the world alight at chelsea, him and suarez would be electric
