Rafa Benitez admits: Dalglish's 'big money' team has to 'improve'...

Out of respect for the club, and current manager Kenny Dalglish, former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez rarely comments on the way things are going at Anfield. However, in a recent interview, Rafa let his guard down a little and gave his views on how Liverpool are doing this season, and why he believes Kenny signed Andy Carroll.

Speaking to the BBC last week, Benitez - who has admitted several times that he hopes to return to Anfield one day - observed:

"They say it's a work in progress, and Liverpool have spent big money this year and I think they have to improve. They will need some time. They were in transition, and the team was going backwards, but now they are working again, and going forward".

Whether Liverpool are actually going forward is a matter for debate; for me, the club has gone backwards when it comes to league progression, and winning the irredeemably pointless Carling Cup doesn't change that.

Whilst at Liverpool, Benitez often spoke about the importance of having lots of different 'options' in the squad, and he believes that Andy Carroll gives Kenny a good option when it comes to Liverpool's strikeforce. He noted:

"The good thing about Liverpool now is that they have good options. I remember in my first year we had Baros, Cisse, Le Tallec, Pongolle as the strikers; we needed to have something different.

"We bought Peter Crouch so that we had a different kind of striker, someone who could hold the ball, win in the air, and play a different style. With Andy Carroll, I think they [Liverpool] were trying to do the same"

It's all well and good and different 'options', but if those options contribute next to nothing to the cause, what's the point?

Benitez admitted during his interview that he was interested in signing Carroll during his final year at Liverpool, so the chances are that if he'd stayed at Anfield, we would've ended up with Carroll anyway (!)

Having said that, I'm sure Benitez would've rejected a ridiculous fee of £35m...

  1. Now, ironically, Jamie Kainwar is turning in a massive Benitez Fan. You're a joke...

  2. I think "have to improve" is a benign expectation, not a disparaging remark. Use some subtlety Kanwar.

  3. See Jaimie, now that's irony!

  4. i want benitez back , before chelsea pinch him

  5. Jaimie, I think you should be banned from this website ... how do you write such claptrap all the time?  If it was that easy then you'd be manager of LFC ...

  6. i dont think the club has gone backwards, and the cup is better than nothing so i find that a bit disrespecful considering we beat some good teams to win it and a day out for good liverpool fans.
another point is other teams are just getting better and harder to beat.
were inconsistant obviously and thats the main problem, were capable of beating anyone one week but not the next.
all kenny has tried to do is put some british blood back into liverpool, it looked like it was needed in the past.

  7. End of the day saurez, Carroll, and gerrard have only played 3 times together and won them all. Plus gerrard has only started 7 times all season, so let's hope he plays them alot more now because I think things would of been different

  8. what?? insulting? he mentions that after 3 straight defeats, and after the team was terribly ineffective, well sorry for the slight criticism from rafa, but that definitely wasn't out of line, after the recent run a lot of fans was calling for dalglish's head and rightfully so we were consistent, pretty consistently mediocre that one result hasn't changed anything we still have very poor chances for 4th. the team had british blood injected, mediocre british blood tbh, if you want to do a transition to british players you bring young players through, not pay ridiculous amounts for crappy players, rafa was doing it plus was buying british talent such as shelvey , sterling, you just can't see the whole picture can you.

  9. You should b a Chelsea fan, sack every manager after a year. Transitional period.

  11. transition to what? explain to me, i still don't get it, to where we were in the 80's or in 2008/9 well if that's it then the transition is going very astray or maybe the souness era?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Pointless carling cup? You obviously weren't at wembley Kanwar. I find this article offensive. This season about progression and that's what we done. O also don't believe your a proper red otherwise you wouldn't write tripe like this.

  13. we need rafa back to feel some pride again,i am fed up with dalglish

    ReplyDelete
  14. Gillett and hicks run the club into the ground. Hodgson takes over rafa, Henry takes from them 2 muppets. Hodgson goes, dalglish is in and buys 8 new players. Like I said befor saurez, Carroll, gerrard have played 3 times together. They have not had enough time to gel. It weren't gonna happen over night.

  15. Do you ever have anything positive to say about LFC Jamie? You arent objective at all, you're a consistent underminer. No one can be this relentlessly critical and yet still enjoy a Liverpool victory. Where's your article celebrating our glorious derby win ?

    ReplyDelete
  16. 08/09 season seeing that most of the players from that squad have left and new ones have come in there is one reason why we are in transition, going back to a British manager after 12 years of French and Spanish management and of cause new owners who are making the club more attractive to investment.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think Rafa knows just like lots of supporters do that we have not progressed at all. He does not want to say anyything bad about Dalglish. That's all. Rafa tried and bought players to fit in the team, Dalglish bought players based on nationality. I agree with u that CC is worthless. I couldn't care less if we never win it again. YNWA.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Rafa should be given another chance,he left us seventh and we are still seventh what was the point to sack him ?

    ReplyDelete
  19. To get the vote from Purslow. We needed it to get rid of Gillett and Hicks. Nothing to do with bad results, all to do with politics.

    ReplyDelete
  20. inconsistency is the fruit of poor tactic and deployment of players.  Now Liverpool has a blend of potential and proven players. Let's see what is going to happen against Stoke. If the same inconsistency occur, Kenny should ponder exit. Do not brag on the win against Everton.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Only worthless to fans who are happy winning nothing! We could only win 3 trophies this season and seeing most of our squad have never won anything we need to start some where.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Peple who slate Dalglish for his signings on here make me laugh, they seem to forget Rafa got through 60 players. And won nothing for 4 years.

    ReplyDelete
  23. well they;re not doing a good job, the club is less attractive for investment, and btw the foundations of that 08-09 team are there, the problem is the midfield and the strikers which have had an overhaul, with really bad players, and if it wasn't wasting huge sums of money on average rubbish we would be competing up there with arsenal chelsea and tottenham, the team at the end of last season looked like it was going in the right direction, beginning of this season we're going backwards, just like we've missed roy's antics didn't we

    ReplyDelete
  24. well he didn't prioritize micky mouse cups cause he focused on reaching finals and semi finals of champions league which effectively bring more money to the club, thank you

    ReplyDelete
  25. oh i forgot, they attract better players as well

    ReplyDelete
  26. that partnership is not proven and consistency of it playing together is next to none, garrard injured, suarez banned, carroll being a donkey and being dropped, gerrard gets injured again, there is no one good to step in, when gerrard was out we had alonso and aquilani that did the job plus mash supporting, when kenny rules reign we have adam henderson and spearing i only see us regressing

    ReplyDelete
  27. yep but then Pursolw starts going mental handing out huge contracts to jovanovic, Cole and Roy, so he dug us into the ground, he also gave a list of players who in his eyes were not good enough and roy was going to get rid of them including Aqua and Lucas

    ReplyDelete
  28. These so called Liverpool fans disgust me,I would take vendor,Carroll,Adam ,Enrique and downing over poulson,Cole, ngog, jovanocic, dossena and all the other shit rafa brought to the club on inflated wages, torres, masch, alonso, agger and skertel are the only good players he brought after wasting god knows how much cash.
And as for slating the carling cup, when did finishing4th instead of a trophey become a success, those who slate kk are clearly glory hunters,go support someone else cuz LFC don't need you.FACT

    ReplyDelete
  29. rafa had a good team but didn't realize how good alonso was played sissko instead of him thats why we lost the league by 4 points if kenny had the team he had kenny would win the league

    ReplyDelete
  30. sissoko wasn't in that team he was already in juve

    ReplyDelete
  31. We weren't in Europe this year so I would have been very dissapointed if we didn't take one of the trophies

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thank you! Someone I agree with! You know what finishing 4th and not winning anything gets you? Fabregas, Nasri, Torres and soon to be van persie because players want trophies.
Don't get me wrong I want champions league but a trophy is a trophy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. rafa didn't buy poulsen, cole or jovanovic, dossena was a squad player he didn't work out he was moved on, n'gog cost 1.3 milion and scored more goals than carroll and was more effective, if you want to compare downing is horrible, his counterpart Riera did a much better job, adam -alonso, aquilani, enrique is ok. you forgot about sterling shelvey, arbeloa, louis garcia, aquilani, sissoko, lucas, reina, aurelio, johnson, kuyt, suso, yes he wasted some cash the only realy abd buy was keane who was not his first choice and it's debatable if he wanted to buy him, rafa did amends if something wasn't working out he maybe spent over 200 mil, but most of his big buys were great, Kenny;s big buys are rubbish and overpriced, if you really think they are lfc standard players well you are entitled to that opinion, good luck. and yes 4th place in a rational world is much better than cc because you have a chance to play in champions league, where you get double or triple the amount money than for playing in europa league and winning the cc combined, especially if you go past the group stage. and please check you so called FACTS

  34. A pity that Carroll doesn't have the touch of Crouch. The latter is good technically, especially for a big man. Carroll and Dalglish have to sort out in the long run, what they want from him, in relation to how he fits in. One minute, its pass-n-move that doesn't really work, the next minute, its hoofball to Carroll which works for him but not really for the likes of Suarez.

    Stick or twist

    ReplyDelete
  35. Gerrard will be 32 in May, 32!

Yet we still rely on him.

    Move on!

    ReplyDelete
  36. shelvey should be taking over slowly or we should get javi martinez and an attacking mid,yet he is being loaned an kenny tries to rely on henderson, btw i never said we should rely on gerrard, but everybody treats him like a messiah, scholes playes till he is 37 that doesn't mean gerrard will, he should be only a rotation player by 33 imo

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would just like to say that i really hope that KK is not thinking that Hendo is going to be there to replace Gerrard when the time comes because if so then we are f$%^&#d. I don't think that KK has the vision to take us into the future, Rafa for me is a better manager. We will all disagree on a lot of things but i think that (well i hope) we all want the same thing in the end. Now i am sorry if i offend anybody but apart from a handful of players English footballers can not compete in Europe. We have one of those players in Gerrard (truly world class) as for the emerging talents of Carroll, Hendo and Downing (who is older) these guys are not top quality, sorry but they are what 21? so is Hazard.
One last thing everyone is asking us to be patient, well 20 odd something years without a tittle is f$%^&*#g patient so go to hell.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I really think you should surrender the name Kop from your url. You are certainly not a fan of Liverpool and would be thrashed out of the Kop with the constant negativity towards Liverpool Football Club. Stretford End would be a better name for this website.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, you're worried about offending people now? Hazard has a choice of clubs who are in the CL. What a lot of you obvious geniuses forget is that this was always going to be a transitional season, with 7 new players to bed in. The Financial Fair Play kicks in next season and will suit those clubs better who run a tight ship. With an english core and heavy investment in developing english talent, the club was always looking to the future, unlike Mr. Wog here who wants everything now!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hey dickhead its time you had a wake up call, we have enough British youth  and lets not by afraid to speak the truth, what the f#$%k have England done in the past 50 years do you really think that buying English players today so that our younger players can learn from the likes of Carroll, Hendo, Downing & Adam your idea of great footballers, is going to help are club move forward cause if you do, than i say you are one of those English idiots that think English football is actually something without the influence of the rest of the world, than you make me laugh    and your probably relying on Gerrard to never retire too. By the way clown Hazard was an example as to what world class talent looks like at 21 stupid not that we should get him, there are plenty of players out there at 21 that would make Carroll and Hendo look like donkeys. Truth hurts.

    ReplyDelete
  41. love the carling cup comment. i agree completely.
Rafa would have this bunch playing better, period. he's a real manager, KD is an ex great who was playing golf for 15 years and watching sky sports.

    ReplyDelete
  42. kenny bought players for average teams not liverpool quality

    ReplyDelete
  43. You need to understand the financial side of football to realise why "4th Spot" is mentioned so often. Have you ever asked yourself why clubs deem that it is essential to play in the CL ? I suggest you do some background research on CL reveneue, sponsorship, CL bonuses, and also then on Club ownership before commenting on the importance of 4th spot.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Why is there an emphasis on developing English talent? the rules indicate homegrown players (i.e. any nationality who is registered with the club for three years) ... so if we had a better scouting network we could get talent from brazil, spain, holland, germany wherever and still not breach the rules ... this buying english for the future argument is a load of nonsense - simple analysis is that Dalglish has purchased British players and that is his preference, Benitez focused on foreign investment and that was his choice - but if you fairly assess the signings a lot of Rafa's have played at the highest level (world cup finals, euro champ finals, CL finals, been nominated for Ballon D'ors , playing for Madrid or Barcelona etc) and Kenny's signings are not even regular international players (Henderson, Carrol, Downing do not even have a regular place in a poor England team). Buying British will get us nowhere unless you are taking the very best and im afraid even the best British talent did not want to join us (Jones and Young both chose Utd)

    ReplyDelete
  45. you clearly need to use google more often since your knowledge of even recent history of the club is flawed

Hodgson FREE transfers - Joe Cole, Christian Poulsen

Rafa transfers - Jovanivic (FREE) , Dossena (7mm), Ngog (1.3mm)

Now tally up the bank breaking cost  of Rafa's "shit" and then subtract that from any one of the unproductive players Kenny has purchased this year, when you look at that total you argument falls to pieces (without even mentioning that the Club made millions on the sale of a lot of Rafa's buys which I doubt will happen with Kennys, unless Barca come in for Carroll at 40mm, United steal Henderson for 25mm, and Madrid get Downing for 30mm)

    ReplyDelete
  46. In Rafa's last season Stevie G, Torres, Aquilani were all injured....and he was facing hard time with the management tussle and the media attacks!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yeah...Rafa didn't win anything for 4 years but we were in the ECL final in 2007, ECL semi-final in 2008 and 2nd in the league in 2009....Is a Carling Cup better than these?

    ReplyDelete
  48. When you don't have enough transfer funds you have to sign cheap or free transfer players....Rafa only got his transfer funds from CL prize money and we also made tremendous profit from the sales of alonso for 30 mil, Masch for 22.5 mil and torres for 50 mil....check you fact before comment sh*t here you idiot!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Rafa signed him on free transfer!

    ReplyDelete
  50. In that season too many draws that cost us the title!!! When Torres was not scoring in the first half of the season there was no one to help put the goal in the net!

  52. What a load of tosh....Kenny is not an ex great he still is a great.
If Rafa was in charge we would be out of both cups after being knocked by minows.

  53. I felt that we needed a clear out last year and we did, but now i feel that we need a clear out. Is it me or are we going round in circles?

    ReplyDelete
  54. This is all part of the Rafa agenda to return as Liverpool Manager. Most over teams and there fans dont want him.

He wanted patience when he was in charge yet he guided Liverpool to 7th after 6 years in charge, 3 places lower than Liverpool finished the season before he took over. He is now trying to undermine Kenny before the end of his first full season.

People seam to forget that our owners were heavily critical of Rafa's transfer policy and they saw the books. So the are in the best position to know. Our owners would not bring Rafa back even if Kenny went.

Rafa... you aint coming back and you are yesterdays man..Kennys first season aint over yet, so keep you mouth shut and look elseware for employment.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hahaha, i see Rafa still divides opinion as much as ever amongst us fans....

Personally, i'd rather Mr Benitez just got the fcuk on with his career as a football manager elsewhere and shut the fcuk up.

Speaks volumes IMO that this guy remains on Anfield out of a job for way too long whilst he continues to offer these little snidey commentaries on our progress or lack of...

So subtle is Rafa that you'd almost think what a great guy he is not wanting to say anything "bad" about Kenny BUT the FACT is he just wants to get back into top flight management......and would say or do ANYTHING to help achieve those ends.

I have no time for this guy at all, been playing up to the fans ever since he walked into the club, ALWAYS says what the fans want to hear, for sure he knows how short sighted and naive our fan base is and so he exploits it, even when he's not connected to the Club anymore....

Suffice to say that i think he is a very twisted individual, all the charity stuff is just PR, the man doesn't have a genuine bone in his body, its ALL about how he can get what he wants out of LFC and atm he needs us to fail........

Why? Because that makes him look good, brings him back into the picture as the manager who was wronged at LFC etc...perhaps he is hoping that it might raise his profile again, perhaps he genuinely feels that he can get back into the Club as manager, a bit speculative but so far he is digging his heels in on Merseyside and will no doubt remain a divisive figure on the sidelines, playing to the fans veinly hoping that they will take up his battle once again and start calling out his name and wishing him back....

Bollocks to that, Kenny has one thing that Rafa will NEVER have, and that is the potential to unite the Club by virtue of who he is and how he'd like us to be playing, which is in comparison to Rafa's style attacking freeflowing football with wingers, a British core of players etc.

Rafa, is the complete opposite, defensive, non free flowing football, compact and counter attacking.....

Anyone who wants to return to that seriously needs there head examined, we might have struggled this season under Kenny, but players like Carroll and Downing etc will come good, we need to off load troublesome and divisive players in the summer (Rafa's clique....) and move on, next season we will be stronger and more settled hopefully with better options, enough of this crying about a manager who ONLY thinks of himself and his career, he's an egotistical fraudster who's just trying to help himself and his career.....NOT LFC.

Get over it FFS and move on.

    ReplyDelete
  56.  Kenny has tried to put british blood back to LFC 1 thing he doesnt know LFC is not british but global wasnt ashamed when the media called LFC the english spanish team when we had Pepe, xabi, arbeloa, morientes ,Garcia n later Torres & Riera in the squad they made us tick with their style so i might jus like Rafa back i know Silva/mata would now be in red

    ReplyDelete
  57. Every article your write Jamie is negative about Liverpool, it's getting ridiculous, are you even a fan or a secret manure fan??

    ReplyDelete
  58. What a stupid comment to make....

"Kenny has tried to put british blood back to LFC 1 thing he doesn't know LFC is not British it is global..."

Do you REALLY think that Kenny does not understand that??? Jeez, your so far up Rafa's arse that you can't see the wood for the trees, wake up fella FFS, Kenny is not a dullard, and im pretty sure he doesn't want to change the Club into a British one from Rafa's foreign one that you liked so much.

He is just trying to offset the inbalance of having too many underperforming foreigners, some of which were/are not good enough, whether you like it or not Manu have struck the right balance for years, a core of solid british players mixed with flair players or more "creative" ones.

Your comments are quite disrespectful towards Kenny IMO why don't you think about that, he is a proper legend at the Club, Rafa is NOT.........

Sort your priorities out, get behind Kenny he's the manager.....

    ReplyDelete
  59. from what i know the transfer hasn't been done yet, roy rubberstamped it

  60. actually poulsen was about 4 mil from juve:/

    ReplyDelete
  61. Competing with Spurs,Arsenal and Chelsea I was hoping for better then 4th. Only Reina,Agger(injury prone) and Skrtel left nearly all those players from the 08/09 season have left or are coming to the end of their career(Carragher) well before Kenny and the new owners took over except for Torres. Lets remember nearly all them asked to leave except for Babel. The club is less attractive? They have signed a deal with Warrior Sport that should bring in £300 million if shirt sales carry on mainly because the club now owns the rights to shirt and merchandise and the club is constantly bringing in new partners.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Aquilani time was up as soon as it was clear Rafa didn't trust him if the manager that brought you doesn't trust or doubts you not much chance of the manager trusting you and he wanted to go home. Alonso? If you don't know the Alonso story where have you been?Mascherano? He refused to play to get a transfer!Only player that had a rough deal from Kenny is Meireles, the others had left.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Actually there are massive prizes for getting to the CL semis.

  64. Seeing it is the local Derby and we won it's called 'bragging rights'!

  66. Madrid made us an offer of player plus cash for Alonso including Van Der Vart, Huntelaar and a certain Wesley Sneijder but turned is nose up and went and brought an injured player from Roma instead! We could have had cover for Gerrard and Torres but Rafa didn't want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Aren't clubs moving away from having to rely on TV money? Liverpool's new shirt/clothes contract where they now control the rights of sales on merchandise the figure of £300 million has been mentioned over the time of the contract.More money the better and of cause playing Champions League football guarantees that but it's getting harder every season and clubs can not guarantee that money it is a bonus .

    ReplyDelete
  68. Rafa says we need to improve. We all say we need to improve. Steven Gerrard says we need to improve. Sorry, can't see a story there.

HOWEVER, Jaimie. I do need to pull you up on your constant sniping of the League Cup. On 12/3 you described it as a "pointless competition", whilst now you are terming it "Irredeemably pointless". I know this is like fishing in a barrel for you, so the whole point is to throw in something that (may be) seen to be contentious, so that mugs like me have to respond.
    Well, I just bit.

Your comments have managed to belittle 8 Cup wins. Who needs Utd to rewrite our history, when our own 'fans' do it so effortlessly for them? Did it never occur to you why Ferguson started the trend of using his fringe  players for the League Cup? Answer: Because LFC had 5 or 6 wins compared to Man United's paltry ONE. So he belittled the competition. He gave the impression that it was pointless. He systematically brainwashed people, and as always, the sheep lapped it up. Kids now say, "It's 'only' the League Cup". He effectively wiped away a part of our proud history so that 'new' fans now regard the League Cup with derision.
The same way you do Jaimie.

Whilst I acknowledge that, out of the prizes up for grabs, its the least important bauble, it's still a cup. It's still an avenue into Europe. And the competition that you regard as "irredeemably pointless" has given this particular middle-aged fart some of the best days out of my life.

So why don't you contact LFC and ask them to change the honours board in the programme, you 5th Columnist?

    ReplyDelete
  69. The Manchester clubs have had the chance to win 5 trophies this season and one of them is now going to end up with nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  70. A free transfer of £100,000 week plus and a big signing on fee.

    ReplyDelete
  71. hahah... are you Kenny disguised under a different username trying to prevent the inevitable? Sounds like a desperate statement from a man trying to prevent his job going to a more talented manager.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Cole,Poulsen and Jovanivic were and are costing the club £300,000 a week or 1.2 million or £14.4 million pounds a year!
Free transfer? There is no such thing! Why do players wind down their contracts so they can leave on a free then take the transfer money on as a signing fee and take even larger wages they would have got if they were transferred for a fee between clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  73. There you go again, 'world class' this, 'idiot' that, assumptions here, insults there, and still, this is after being edited by moderator? Angry much? Who says I'm english? There may be plenty of players at 21 that make Carroll and Henderson look like donkeys, but name some that want to come here without CL football. You seem to forget, they had good seasons before they came here, bar Adam and Downing, I didn't think they were playing well consistently, but the others were bought for potential. Don't assume you know my idea of great footballers, without CL we were always going to have to overpay for players. Btw, did you not see our last few games? Carroll and Downing are plying well at the moment!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Players don't repay their transfer fees by being sold but by winning things and scoring important goals like Kuyt has done in his time showing loyalty! I want players who are going to stick around! Having to constantly re-jig the squad every 2 years is why we are in this trouble to much of a revolving door at Anfield in the last 4/5 years to many coming and goings which weakened the squad of players needed to win anything in football.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Under the age of 21.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Didn't Rafa lose a League Cup final?

    ReplyDelete
  77. big signing fee? what is your source?

Jovanovic - 10 games and 1 goal against northampton

Downing - 25 + games and 1 goal against oldham.

Kenny wasted 20 mil and that is the bottom line.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Players leave teams - there is less control on that now and that is just the way it is, your point about Kuyt - if he knew madrid or barca wanted him and put in a bid where would his loyalty be then ? Macca had the option of Madrid, Alonso had the option of Madrid, Mash had Barca - untill we guarantee top flight football which does not look like it will occur again for a while then players will leave and we will be subject to second rate talent which is what the team is full of now.

We are not the force we were in the 80s, we are not even the force we were just a few years back.

    ReplyDelete
  79. hence the comment scouting network

    ReplyDelete
  80. Two things and im done with you  firstly why did'nt Adam have a good season last year (not his first with LFC) he was very good for Blackpool. Secondly don't kid yourself if we would have thrown 75mill out there then we would have got some real talent, KK was hell bent on bringing English footballers in. P.S sorry for the insults it is un-called for.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Macca had been with the club for over 10 years and Owen and they both had won trophies. Macca went onto greater things only English man to win the European cup twice with a club abroad and score in a final.
Mascherano refused to play for the club and seeing he was part of the team under Rafa that finished out of the top 4 he was second rate as well!!!

  82. we were dropped by adidas that;s why we have warrior sports, they only gave us such a huge deal because they want get through to the football market, btw if we had that kind of support when we played in champions league year in year out, we would have more partners and bigger revenue, but that was messed up by H&G

    ReplyDelete
  83. dont really remember that happening... oh i remember why... we won another trophy that year

  84. rafa didn't trust aqua, i beg to disagree, aqua was getting used to the english premiership, he was fresh after serious injury, plus rafa was looking for a best position for him in the team, at the end of the season he was getting plenty of first team football and she was showing class 6 assist and 2 goals

    ReplyDelete
  85. don't get ahead of yourself, we have plenty games left if we continue playing like the mood will change, but now well we'll see if after the next 3 fames you will be bragging about the results

  86. Get real mate it's CC not the European Cup. Even the FA cup lost its prestige. There r two trophys to aim for and we are nowhere near to win those. CHL and PL. Carling cup should b sraped cos is worthless. It's worth only for teams that cannot win anything. We say that we r BIG CLUB witch we r than CC it's not big deal for us to win it.

  87. You hit the nail on the head.....Its not all about winning top competitions...judge kk on other things too...he even cleans toilets...cooks and cleans for team swell...kk is the best

  88. Yes, thats right im Kenny under a different username, well spotted.....

Whilst Kenny is manager i will support him, IF you are a supporter and not a Manc.... then you should do the same.....

  90. Sorry you can't take the bragging rights away from Liverpool fans for doing the double over our noisy neighbours.

  91. We are not in Europe this season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No point even mentioning the Champions League.

  92. Aw, and I was having so much fun! His last season with Blackpool, they were starting games well, then as Adam's energy faded, so the games were turning against them. He offers very little defensively. He's also not very mobile so if he doesn't have the ball, he's not very good at getting it back and as we've seen recently, if the confidence is not shown in him, he can't manufacture his own. The thing that annoys me about you and your ilk, is that we've seen the hounding of players and all the good it does (Smicer, Biscan, both played out of position). Lucas was vilified his first few seasons, even though he was captain of Brazil U21s and voted Brazil's most promising player, yet Rafa shoehorns him into an unfamiliar role that takes him a while to master, now he's one of our best players. Carroll and Adam were the main attacking foci of their respective teams and did very well as such, they are now trying to fit into a different system, in their first season, here I include Henderson and Downing, and our 'supporters' can't wait and see for 1 season? Whatever happened to 'You'll never walk alone'?

  93. you obviously cant see the whole picture, your just impatient, deluded and glory hunting.
im grateful we didnt go bust and relagated , were slowly going in the right direction.
fickle boy, season aint over yet

  94. Sorry, meant english core and developing talent, not necessarily english. Have to disagree with you on Rafa's signings vs Kenny's though. Rafa's were not at the highest level when he signed them, they are now. Ditto Kenny's, if you look at where they are now, (Hendo captain of U21s, Carroll starting to gel, will surely be a regular for England, Enrique on verge of callup for Spain, Suarez a bargain, just won Copa America, Bellamy a free consistent performer, Downing starting to gel, already playing well for England). Jones was found out recently by Bilbao, he's not a midfielder, I'll give you Young, would've liked him

  95. Chi Bai lu, Benitez. My Chi Bai says that you too had a fair share of singing failures like Kewell, Nunez, Morientez, Veronin, Aqualani, Dossena, Insua, Gonzales etc. and let go Alonso. Sori, time to Kunkit now!

  96. Liverpool Kop are anti Dalglish full stop. He could win the FA cup as well this year and still not make Liverpool Kop like him.

This site used to be giving solid fair views now it's just biased based in the writers views on preferring rafa . I liked rafa alot. But the pressure if the way the club was managed got to him. New owners and dalglish need to be given time.

Most fans uderstand that . Going to game tommorow hope we beat stoke. I'm sure the rafa club here hope we lose.

  97. As the the cup . It's odd how no one cares about it until they can win it. Yes they play the kids but they quickly disappear when it gets near to the final. How many kids did the teams we beat play . Looked full strength trying to win to me.

How many prem players have won a cup ?

Also they final is shown around the world it was a good game and helped the sponsors etc.

As for Adidas they were outbid a year ago you talk as though they dropped us. After that when contract ended to repair some ego they say we are not worth amount warrior paid.

We are playing better football under kk just been unlucky.

Can I ask a question. Do you want KK to fail.

    I

  99.  Jamie. It is obvious to me that you have NEVER played.

  100. My point mate. With the season the Chavs had and Arse starting the season badly we should've been able to get the 4th place and than compete for CHL. The FACT that we won't get 4th place is proof that we have not PROGRESSED at all.My POINT IS THAT I WOULD RATHER WE FINISHED 4Th and compete for CHL than win worthless cup called CARLING CUP. YNWA.

    ReplyDelete
  101. That might be enough for you but it isn't for the players as Arsenal are finding out with all their best players leaving, clubs need to be winning trophies to keep players.

    ReplyDelete
  102. We were being robbed by Adidas Ayre wanted control of the sales and has got it. The club is constantly joining up with new partners in the last 2 years 15 big companies like Honda,Bank of America,Thomas Cook plus others.

  103. i dont know where all that bitterness came from yet we r all entitled to our own opinion n dont give me tht Man u have struck the right balance for years so u want as to emulate man u we are Livpool we dont need some1 else to show the path tell me 1 thng i have disrespected the manager am only stating the facts whether we like it or not british (most  of them)players are not so good yet very expensive he is a legend no 1 can deny that but not perfect its only tht he is making some obvious mistakes

    ReplyDelete
  104. You are forgeting Hicks and Gillett wanted the Alonso cash to part pay their interest on the debts they saddled the club with!

    ReplyDelete
  105. And u think that wining CC will help keeping good players like Suarez at the club. I don't care what happens at Arsenal mate. I care what happens at LFC. Dont want to talk about Arsenal mate but in their case some players moved to bigger clubs and some players moved elsewhere cos they earn more money. And don't u worry mate cos most of Dalglish's buys won't go anywhere cos nobody will want them. Apart from Suarez and Enrique that is.

    ReplyDelete
  106. You might not like him, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but seriously, show the man some respect. Even if you think that he had failed miserably at Liverpool, he did bring some good to this club. And for that, he should not be mistreated with words as you just did. What good did he bring to the club you might ask? Benitez was the one who made our defence as good as it is today by bringing Reina, Agger, Skretel and Lucas (lol, which makes Liverpool's half core already none British...). And that's just one example.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yeah with Chelsea that apparently had invested 100mil plus on players that year(correct me if I am wrong). This year, we won on penalties against a team that probably is worth less than Downing, hooray!

    ReplyDelete
  108. You don't pay £35 million for an 'option' though.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Chelsea managers get sacked for not winning the league or Champions league. Those are unrealistic aims. Achieving fourth place after spending £100 million is not an unrealistic ask. We are 10 points of 10th place and Arsenal and Chelsea are both going well. No chance. Therefore, it's not unrealistic to say that Dalglish is doing a very poor job.

LFC were not dropped by Adidas, they - initially did'n't want to match the offer that Warrior made, and were told told they were too late when they upped the anti !

No point in arguing about who should manage Liverpool at this moment in time.
What is undeniable is that we are not going to be playing Champions League Football Next Year.
In all of this everyone needs to bare in mind that John Henry & Tom Werner's expectation at the beginning of the season was a Champions League Spot.
Regardless of the fans opinions they will consider this season a failure regardless of the CC and potential FA CUP.
FSG are business people first and Fans second and no amount of fan power is going to persuade them from there Judgement at the end of the season.
Should Kenny be moved on, we should accept there Judgement.
Should Rafa be bought back to the Club we should accept the Judgement.
What needs to be remembered in all of this is it was RAFA who BROUGHT KENNY back to the club.

Who knows maybe they have a private arrangement in place that Kenny would come back for a while?

There doesn't appear to be ANY animosity between Kenny and Rafa so why are YOU all being so HOSTILE to each other?

  113. What is Benitezes opinion doing on this site i thought his opinions and actions were needless and worthless according to those that run this site.

    ReplyDelete
  114. So where did the £34 million come from for Aqua and Johnson then? You wouldn't have took Sneijder ,Van Der Vart or Huntelaar?

    ReplyDelete
  115. You don't understand footballers they want trophies and medals as well as champions league football only 1 team can win the league only one team can win the league!
Players want to be known for what they won not for losing or just competing!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Fact is, apart from the Chelseas and Man Citys, every other top team supplements their squad with promising players that they develop. Man City have a few home grown players, but Arsenal have the likes of Song, Van Persie, who they got fairly cheaply, they got Fabregas on the cheap, Flamini didn't cost too much, Ramsey was not too expensive, etc. Man Utd have the likes of the Da Silva twins, Tottenham have players like Essou-Kotto, Walker. As well as the home grown players and the big transfers, our scouts need to find players who will progress to the first team. Hopefully, Sterling, for example, will be that kind of signing. Shelvey may be another. Every team, who is not owned by a billionaire, needs a combination of good youngsters, both scouted and coming through their own system, as well as players that they pay big money for.

If you look at the number of cheap buys that Arsenal have made, even the ones who do not make the grade tend to go for a profit. Eboue, Flamini, Fabregas, Bendtner will when they sell him. They could make 30 million on Van Persie. Even flops like Senderos and Djourou would make the club a profit and are not the worst reserves you could have in your squad. Players like Sagna hold down a position for years and cost about 6 million. We should never have been paying 20 million on players unless they were top class. This idea that you have to be in the champions league to get value is just not right. Newcastle, Cabaye, Ba, Tiote, Cisse, Ben Arfa, Santon. 6 players for just over 30 million, with only one being on loan. All of those players would make our squad stronger. So, how do we get overcharged and they don't? And our best signings have been the cheapest ones, Enrique and Bellamy definitely.

  118. Kenny had the oportunity of buy anyone he wanted but Rafa had to buy with the money of the sells he did.
All of you say that he spent money on crap players but Rafa sold them twice of their value.
Apart from that Rafa is and will be a better tactician than Dalglish and no one cant deny that with the new owners Rafa will bring the league before Dalglish.
